Spring River Saga-Book 2: Troy no longer exists under the shadow of his outlaw father - or does he? He and Rachel have settled down in Spring River, Wyoming, to normal living - or have they? Not long into their marriage, an unexpected event brings Rachel to her knees, pleading with God to spare her husband's life. There are lots of twists and turns awaiting in the exciting continuing story that brings back the other endearing characters (Mary, Pop, Mark, and yes, even Toby) from The Innocent for the Guilty. (PS You'll want to read that first!) A Christian novella with a touch of romance.
An award-winning author, Sandi Rebert is the wife of pastor Brian Rebert. Together, they have ministered in rural Maine for over forty years. They are blessed to have three grown children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, plus six grandchildren. Sandi has written over twenty Christian plays, cantatas, and programs used in churches across the US and several foreign countries. She now has eight Christian historical novels, with more in the planning stages. Teaching private music lessons led to the writing of a Christian piano course, “Praising God on the Piano.” She also enjoys art and playing various musical instruments.
I Love Sandi Rebert's writing style and she has delivered another exceptional book. It was a heartwarming story that had adventure and tragedy lurking around every corner...I loved how she kept dependency on God throughout the book. I highly recommend this book.
I absolutely loved this story; the author did a fabulous job on it. I love books that make you feel like you are in the story, and this author made that happen. I found it difficult to put this book down; I just wanted to keep reading. I love Sandi Rebert's writing style; it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.
Excellent sequel to the previous book 'The Innocent for the Guilty'. This book continues the story of Troy and his family and the people they are close to including Toby who still, for whatever reason, despises Troy and tries to cause trouble for him. After more difficulties (there wouldn't be a novel without them!) Troy's family has some achievements including another budding romance and recovery of Pop from his wife's passing.

“In Darkness and Light” is the continuation of the story “The Innocent foe the Guilty. Again there are many twists and turns in this story to keep your interest and guessing what comes next for many of the characters like Troy, Toby, Mary, Elizabeth, Pop and a few others. There are even a few new characters who very much enriched the story and added more depth and intrigue to the story as a whole. As the story continues, we encounter a little old fashioned mystery with a little more old fashioned western investigations, revenge, sickness, attempted murder, and a kidnapping by a couple of addle minded bounty hunters and plenty more twists to come. There are also some spiritual themes such as salvation, forgiveness and the biblical command of being unequally yoked is talked about in a few places in the story. In my opinion you possibly could read this book as a stand alone, but you definitely would be missing some very important elements that would help you understand what is going on now and what has happened previously in the first book with the characters in the past. There are many things happening in the story with all the characters old and new that kept her attention, and kept me reading to the very last page and left me wishing the story didn’t end. One of the main storylines we read is that we find “Pop” still having a really hard time adjusting to his wife’s death. He is sinking deeper into depression and doesn’t want to help Troy with the store. Will anyone be able to help him bounce back to the fiesty, whippersnapper self that everyone came to love? We also find Toby still angry with Troy and he wants revenge, so he decides to stir up some trouble for him and that introduces two new characters named Murph and Pete, which makes things very interesting at this point. Troy’s Mother Mary feels God has other plans for Troy, but Troy is very apprehensive and unsure if this is the will of God, so where will this decision lead him or will he even make a change in his life at all? There are so many things in this story that I thoroughly enjoyed. A few things actually made me laugh while reading the story, and one of them was when Maddie the school teacher put Toby Jensen in his place when he was telling her about Troy. That was just perfect to add to the storyline. There was also a tender moment between Maddie and Rachel when Maddie was trying to help Rachel. That moment really stood out to me when Sandi added that part where Maddie asked to pray for and with Rachel and even made a point to pray for Toby’s salvation. I love how Sandi showed the compassion of Christ in this scene and the importance of praying for other’s salvation, especially when the one who needs salvation is your enemy. This scene was very powerful in my opinion. I also appreciated how Sandi touched on being unequally yoked in this book, and following God’s commands no Mathis the heart feels. This made an impression on me because most authors I have read, usually writes a story about one person who is saved that ends up getting involved with another person who isn’t saved, at least at first. So this is a refreshing breath of fresh air to read a story with a slight romance aspect that actually follows God’s command in this type of relationship. Last but not least would be the things I feel Sandi could have improved on in the book, well, absolutely nothing unless I can possibly suggest making the book longer for those like me who love to read and love a longer story for no other reason than to savor reading a wonderful story a little longer, Lol! I am also thankful that Sandi is continuing this incredible story as we see there is more to come as there is more to come as the saga continues westward.
I received a Advanced Readers Copy from the author in return for my honest review, whether good or bad. This is my honest review of the book and all opinions are strictly my own.
My favorite character was Mary because she was compassionate and caring.
The story was engaging.
I look forward to reading more by author Sandi Rebert because I enjoy her writing style.
I hope the author writes more books in this series because these characters feel like family.
“I am pleased to endorse ‘In Darkness and In Light’ and would like to give it a 5-star rating. I will be recommending it to my friends.”
What are the spiritual truths to be gleaned from the story?
“Jesus Christ, though He was equal with God… made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, And that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

This book has been such a blessing to me. Because Sandi Rebert incorporates the gospel message into her works, you are drawn into both the narrative and the biblical text. You'll be on the edge of your seat throughout this book and keep wanting more. Troy, Rachel, Mary, and Angie have gone through so many trials, and have had so much heartbreak but with God they have persevered. This book brings all kinds of different emotions and you feel each and every one of them. It ‘s like you are living the story yourself. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. This author did a phenomenal job on this book. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Loved this sequel to The Innocent for the Guilty! There's a little romance, but it's more about forgiveness and how to treat our fellow man. I couldn't put the book down, and when I did, I wondered what was going to happen next!! I love this series, and can't wait for next book!! You do want to read this series in order, though, or you'll be missing a lot!!! I LOVE the scenes with Angie and Pop, who she decides to call grandpa! Two of the best scenes take place in the last chapter, one with Mark and one with Angie and Grandpa.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
The author has once again brought us a story that is sweet and heartwarming yet one filled with human angst. This is a story of sorrow, tragedy, difficulties, hate, unexpected events and yet is a story of hope and victory. This is a sequel of Rachel and Troy's story from The Innocent for the Guilty. You will meet many of the old friends from the earlier book as well as new ones. The story will remind each of us that God stands at the ready to provide our needs if we will just ask and believe. This is a real page turner; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
What a great reminder that God is with us In Darkness and In Light. When Troy, his Mom and little sister got to Spring River, they knew it wouldn’t be easy. Living with the Danials name, meant trouble, thanks to his father and his choices. But he hoped to show the town’s peoples that a name doesn’t mean they are bad people. Through many discouraging , and scary moments, they always remembered God is there. With prayers and not giving up, can miracles happen? This is such a wonderful story of hope, forgiveness, and love and I definitely recommend it
I love the time period this book takes place. Sandi Rebert is definitely a talented writer. The sequel to The Innocent for the Guilty, this book is as good if not better. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. If you love clean, inspirational stories like I do you will love this series. Love , forgiveness and some sadness is throughout this story. Lots of twist and turns as Troy’s story unfolds. Having to overcome his dad’s past from which he is judged,Troy sets out to prove he is not like his dad.
Despite sorrow, tragedy, danger, near death experiences, hope is the thread woven throughout this heartening story. The characters and plot so brilliantly created, serve to add credence to the author’s gifting endowed from the heart of the Father to the heart of each reader, drawing him or her to know the One who cares and loves each of us. Eagerly awaiting the next saga in the series!
In Darkness and in Light is a great example of historical, Christian fiction. The author brings her characters to life through description and dialogue. Although referred to as a sequel, this book is a prequel and a sequel intricately woven together so the reader learns more about Troy and Rachel’s past while following their current story.
Absolutely loved this sequel. Currently reading the next book in the series. Love getting to know the characters and how special they are to each other. Love the suspense, forgiveness and redemption in this story. Plus some clean romance.
