-Arrogant, man-whore hero -written more like bad porn than a romance -plot holes -written as though ideas were thrown together, made up along the way to justify the story. -no consistency or rules to the magic/lore -characters evil for the sake of being evil
Lord of Rage book 2
Book 2 4 stars (take off of Goldilocks)
Better than #1 IMO. Better storyline, better dialogue and more likable hero/heroine. The writing is far more sophisticated, not jumbled, and the POV thinking of the characters are clear and precise. The logic of the plot and magic is more reasonable and believable. My only beef is the last fight scene was pretty lame. No tension, little description of action, and way too short. Lastly the author never goes into the significance of the timepiece.
Book 3 (Take off of Red Riding Hood) 2 stars
I don't know if I can read this. Immature dialogue. Who talks or thinks like this? I managed to finish it, although I skimmed. It did get a little better. Hated the OW issues which immediately made me dislike the hero. The ending was rushed and incomplete.
Book 4 -4.5 stars (Reverse beauty and the Beast)
Clearly the best on in the series.
Here we have a virgin hero and the author does well with this. The story was wonderful. I reduced 1/2 star because I felt the end a bit sloppy. There were too many creatures and conflicts which resolved too easily and too fast.
Overall take on series:
I felt that these should have all been stand alone. The siblings did little together with each other. I was expecting them all to come together to The first 3 books didn't have an ending nor did I feel any of them were truly tied to one another (which is what I was expecting).
My rating is an average of my rating for each separate book.
Lord of the Vampires by Gena Showalter > 2 stars Lord of Rage by Jill Monroe > 3 stars Lord of the Wolfyn by Jessica Anderson > 3 stars Lord of the Abyss by Nalini Singh > 5 stars
The whole set was available as an omnibus from my library. I was tired of looking for books so I settled in for a good read. I was surprised by what I found. The variety of romances was nice. There was a werewolf, a shifter, etc. There was a fairy tale, there was a princess, there were princes, there was a curse, and there was great evil. There was almost everything I could want. Honestly, I think I read through these too quickly. I was under a self-imposed deadline.
For a series it's not very interwoven. The books could have been separate and it wouldn't have mattered. The only thing that the characters have in common is their backstory. There are scenes that happened in one story and forgotten in the other ones, scenes that could have connected the stories together more
You'd think that they would all get together at the end to fight the blood sorcerer that was not the case. The final battle was so disappointing, the blood sorcerer's army that they kept referring to was not even part of it nor was any of the other children except for Micah.
They could had a chance to have something great and they blew it.

I absolutely loved this series. I started reading it because Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors. She did not let me down!!!! I have been turned on to a few new authors through this series. I will definitely read some of their works in the future.
This isn’t a bad collection, per se. But there is a marked difference in the level of writing and skill of the four authors. Personally, I found books 1 and 4 to be the strongest offerings. I’m also a bit sad that the collection is no longer available in print, only ebook.
I’ve rated each title separately. As an overall for the series, it’s a 3. I’m not certain whether it’s due to the Nocturne parameters the authors worked under but there were parts in each book that made me think “can we move this along?”. For me, this was a read once series. No need to re-read.
Though really slow at times, filled with too much explicit sex scenes,I started liking it on the process but the way it its with any detailed explanation to why they needed to come together and at the same time made no sense. Ending is rather bland. You would expect a BANK and only get a poke.
OMG~THIS IS A MUST READ! COULDNT STOP READING UNTIL I GOT TO THE END!
Book #1 Major twist on Cinderella....sex slave with 2 evil sisters....was very intense from the start to finish. There wasnt much build up between the couples in the beginning, it jumped right in. Storyline between Nicolai & Jane was little confusing at first but quickly got intense and stayed intense. Lots of mystery in this book, which made it even more exciting
Book #2 - truly loved this one. Best Three Little Bears take I have read thus far. The chemistry between Breena & Osborn was amazing. This was thrilling, adventurous and full of laughs, the sexual chemistry was sexy and exciting. This was a book I could read again.
Book #3 - This had a Little Red Riding flare, with lots of changes, but oh so good. Dayn & Reba had great chemistry and this book gave you lots of twist and turns. Just when you thought it was going in one direction it took another and again, great chemistry between the two, desperate for a soul mate.
Book #4 - THIS WAS MY FAVORITE, HOLY COW! Storyline in this was fantastic, major twist on the Beauty & The Beast, is such a good way. Micha and Lilianna story had depth, was intriguing, honest and so sweet. There was adventure, mystery, lots of wonderous & scary creatures, a true love story. Hell, I'm reading it again (until my next book comes) it was that good.
A great serie, very exciting and so not boring. Just couldn't stop readying it.
Nikolai: I think he was my favorite among the heirs. Very stubborn and possessive, will do anything to protect Jane. I loved their partnership and the fact that we Jane already knew about vampires so we didn't lost time with too much thinking. It went straight to action and very deep and wild feelings.
Breena: The perfect docile and boring princess at first. It took time for me to warm up to her but as soon as she developped a backbone, she was so much more interesting. As for Osborn, ow that's a true Neanderthal with a golden heart.
Dayn: Surprise after surprise. I quite liked him and his mysterious air. As for Reda, I would have like to know more about her and her mother's origin. She was a bit anoying at first and so not trusting. I was quite disappointed in her when she decided to go home. I would say this pair is the one I least enjoy readying about.
Micah: A very second to my favorite, nearly equal. He was so interesting and different from any hero I read about. And Liliana was so funny. I loved how she went toe to toe with him, never backing down, teaching him about love and friendship. And their relationship was very true and sooo hot!!! Loved it and them.
I loved this book set. The only compliment that I can give is to say it would make a great movie! I loved how the books followed a similar theme and was a cohesive story told by 4 different authors. Great storytelling by phenomenal authors!
There was nothing I disliked about these books. They held my interest with vivid descriptions and likable characters. I recommend the "Royal House of Shadows" box set to all romance, erotica, mystery, mange, paranormal readers. There's lots of sex, action, magical creatures, and a different take on some of our favorite fairytales. Love, love, loved this book set!
Through all the ups and down, the happiness and sadness, the fighting and the celebration, I truly enjoyed this series! I will definitely reread them all again, because the story is so wonderfully written by each author. Also each story intertwines perfectly from one the next, I never felt lost or confused. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves suspense, adventure and romance. Thank you for a amazing read!! ♡
This is one unusual heroine. It's said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, and it must be true. Liliana isn't much to look at, but she's clever, and, boy, can she cook! Pretty soon, the Lord of the Abyss is interested in more than just her delicious pastries! I loved the characterizations in this book. Definitely not the same old stereotypes.
The separate stories of the four royal children of Elder. They must overcome individual trials and return together to hope to defeat the Blood Sorcerer who stole their birthright. All the stories are good and enjoyable. Really a fine collection and a good, long story.
It was great to read the entire storyline in one book. For me I like that editors put theses authors together because I have difficulties getting each book either from Goodreads, overdrive library or on kindle.
I enjoyed reading this series it was quite entertaining, even though it was a faire tale theme I enjoyed each authors vision of each story and how it all flowed together so seamlessly.
I had a VERY difficult time putting these books down
Each book is mostly a HEA but with a cliffhanger ending, because the ending is in the last book of course. They were riveting, some parts made me cry, some made me laugh. Definitely worth reading more than once
