Making a difficult topic easier to comprehend, "Heads Up Psychology" offers big ideas, simply explained, for teen readers.
Psychology is all around us -- in the advertising we see, the politics we debate, and in the development of products we use every day. Using engaging graphics, "Heads Up Psychology" explores the big ideas from all areas of psychology including psychoanalysis, intelligence, and mental disorders.
With easy-to-understand coverage of all the approaches to psychology, and the ideas of more than 60 psychologists, from Asch to Milgram and Ramachandran to Zimbardo, this introduction to an often complicated subject is written with young-adult readers in mind, and is structured around the questions they often ask, like "How do I fit in?," "Who needs parents, anyway?," and "Why do I feel so angry all the time?"
In "Heads Up Psychology," psychological theories are explained with the help of cleverly conceived graphic illustrations and diagrams to show how they relate to everyday life. Biography spreads give interesting insights into the lives and work of Freud, Pavlov, and more, while other psychologists and their big ideas are profiled in a comprehensive directory, and case study panels describe groundbreaking experiments in the field.

This is an interesting introduction to the world of psychology that covers the main points and people and how it relates to the real world and real people. It has a lot of extra diagrams and illustrations which don't work quite so well on the kindle edition as the detail wasn't all that clear but they were useful and informative none the less. I don't feel that I've actually learnt that much from this but then I do have some basic knowledge and this is aimed at those with none. I can certainly see how it is a good starting point though.
This book has plenty of good information for those interested in psychology. They’re a lot of colorful and fun layouts to lighten the content of this book. As a person with no basic knowledge of psychology, I have learned a lot. I do not suggest reading this if you already studied psychology.
Love this book; it's meant as a juvenile intro to psychology but adults will get a lot out of it too if they've never taken a class or just need a refresher on basics of the subject. It's broken into and explains the different types: Academic Psych: Social Psy, Cognitive Psy, Biological Psy, Evolutionary Psy, Developmental Psy, Educational Psy, Individual Differences Psy. Medical Psych: Clinical Psy, Clinical Neuropsychology, Counseling Psy. Applied Psych: Organizational Psy, User Experience researcher/designer, Human factors specialist, Human Resources.
Somehow I found this book very unsatisfying. I thought it would be a good overview of psychology. I never had psychology in school/college, but most people who did seemed to love it, so I was curious. The book did cover a lot, including major players in the history of psychology. Not sure if I just needed more in-depth info, or if it's just not my thing.
Eh. The book is formatted in such a way that even a five years old can read and understand. Very colourful and bright with small boxes of quotes and some additional information. A must have for every parent. Probs to the designer and writer. Definitely a must read for anyone who's new or curious ab psychology. If you already have some knowledge before this probably won't satisfy you
Great book for those interested in psychology but have no formal education on the subject - I especially liked the inclusion of the directory of psychologists so I could research further into the areas of psychology I enjoy.
My only complaint is the formatting, although engaging, sometimes I would read onto the next page and go onto the wrong paragraph, causing confusion.
Enjoyable reading for any interested --- mildly interested -- in this fascinating subject. Well organized, well written, it gives a broad overview of the science of psychology and the gifted people who defined it.
A very slow read for a very interesting subject. I had a lot of trouble reading this one, maybe it’s because I’ve taken a class on it. The diagrams and photos where interesting to look at, but I already knew most of the information in it.
It's fine as a primer on psychology. The font size gave the feeling that it was supposed to be psychology for 5th graders. Maybe that's exactly what this book is and I didn't manage my expectations well enough.

For someone who has no background knowledge about psychology, this book is a great start. It gave me a lot of simple and fundamental ideas and I learned a lot. There are also good illustrations and collages I enjoyed.
Originally targeted at teen audiences, this introduction to psychology actually works for older age groups also willing to improve their understanding of the domain.
