"I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul...'

College sophomore Gabrielle Bridge is falling for the wrong guy. She should be smarter than that, but on her defense, he was wearing the most surprising disguise.

In return William will give her exclusive access to the secrets of his species so she can reveal it to the whole world. The Nobel will be hers with this breakthrough. "I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul...'

My thoughts on the book

The story of Gabrielle Bridge is a winning combination of fantasy elements and brilliantly executed humour.

The highlight of this book for me, was the rawness - the way the situations the story was comprised of felt real, and lacked the forced nature of many YA stories one comes across today. Gabrielle is a charming, geeky heroine, who is extremely easy to relate to.

Yet the real highlight of this book was William.

William brought entertainment to every single page he appeared on. Especially with his ability to get on our heroine's nerves:

'"We've already determined that you need a boyfriend. Given the circumstances, if you are really this desperate, then I'll just have to sacrifice myself for the cause."

I (Gabrielle) gaped at him.'

But the best character - or should I say characters - were Gabe, Brie, and Elle.

These 'voices, or 'alter egos' of Gabrielle's elevated the storyline and added complexity to Hypothesis' heroine. They present the good, bad and the ugly of Gabrielle - reflecting her flaws and assets and helping to 'flesh her out' as a character. It was like watching a movie with three voice-overs, each one sporting a different personality. They definitely made for quite the fun reading experience, with their indignant exclamations and aversion to The Flintstones-esque treatment of women!

Ana Bastow gives readers real characters with real troubles, submerged in a dangerous and thrilling adventure.

I highly recommend giving Hypothesis a read. From its unique concepts (e.g. memory photography, which I would love to have!) to its ability to make you smile, Hypothesis is a YA treat for lovers of fantasy :)

The Hypothesis: the existence of magic in the physical world

This sensational YA fantasy is an addictive, unputdownable read!

The truly inspired, clever concept of this book is what makes it a most exciting and remarkable read. I adore fantasy fiction as well as YA and so the combination of both genre, and how deftly they were interwoven was just pure genius! Instantly likeable main protagonist Gabrielle is fantastic and a brilliant role model for many teens. I was able to relate to her on a personal level, and connect with the story; being that she is similarly a ‘Geeky’ academic!! I also LOVED the irony of how finding love is so unexpected…for in Gabrielle’s case it wasn’t mere physical attraction but a deeper understanding & friendship that would shine forth.

Gabrielle’s dreams of winning the ‘Nobel prize’ was just great, as it {maybe slightly exaggerated} highlighted how the sky is not the limit and that striving for your dreams is possible… Magical. Enchanting. Inspirational. Hypothesis not only captures fantasy and the mystical on the page but it also captures the magic of love!

Written in a warm and friendly style, Ana Bastow reaches out to her readers through the colourful characters and richly detailed plot. Packed with sorcerers and school kids, magic and mystery this surprisingly unexpected novel will have you glued to the pages. As William and Gabrielle’s relationship grows as too does the impending danger, as they prove to the world that witchcraft is real and that dreams really can come true! Exceeding and surpassing all expectations book 1 in the Hekapolis trilogy is an extraordinary tale that’s ideal for teens; covering sex, boys, growing-up and most importantly being yourself & discovering what is inside of you.

A simple but foolproof plan…
1). Write a list of aspirations {however BIG they may be}
2). Strive in realizing your full potential!

I really tried finishing but I just couldn't force myself to read anymore.

The book has such a promising start, a funny, intelligent heroine and a cut, entertaining love interest, but when the magic finally started something happened and the quality of the book took a dive. It became so cheesy that it was hard to deal, even characters that were interesting before suddenly turned into cardboard personalities. The constant use the word "hook-up" as a synonymous for making out started to get on my nerves. Gabrielle is 20 years old, no one this age uses that term like that.

What threw me out of the book, though, was the constant grammar mistakes, such as "didn't had", "didn't finished", "what did you did", missing words, wrong words, among others.

The premise of the book is really interesting though, so with proper editing and a more throughout development the book could definitely become really good.

In the beginning I couldn't make sense of things and didnt help with there was a lot of scientific terms and physics terms. I felt dumb since I had no idea what they meant. Until the 3rd chapter then I got into the story and found out there was big secrets hiding behind William and the powers of his blood and mind. Gabrielle will find out more about her, her mother and all the secrets her mother has hidden away from her for over 10 years, both Gabrielle and William will face their past in many ways and find ways to mend them self's from the hurt. I cant wait for the next book to come out, I would like to find out if their relationship continues to the good or if William is having second thoughts.

*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Gabrielle Bridge has many goals in life. The most important are to finish school, get a masters in physics, win a Noble Prize and then eventually think about getting a boyfriend. She’s not like other people because she has different personalities that help her with issues, one named “Brie” the logical one, “Elle” who yearns for passion, and “Gabe” the referee. They all communicate and are voices that put in input when Gabrielle is either stuck with something or starts to lose her focus. Home life is rough, she lives with her alcoholic mother after her father cheated on her, left, and never sends any child support, so she has to work at a grocery store to pay for school. Gabrielle isn’t too interested in getting a boyfriend and being hurt like her mother. But that doesn’t stop her from liking her nerdy but cute classmate Toby.
She tries to recruit Toby into being partners with her for a project but during class one day she accidently makes a mean comment about one of the students, “Dumb Bill” (William), and the teacher makes her and William partner up instead. “Dumb Bill” is annoying to her and she doesn’t even understand why he’s in the class since he never seems to do any work, and would rather flirt with anything that moves. After working together a few times she realizes that “Dumb Bill” for one isn’t so dumb, and he may actually be nice. “Brie”, “Gabe”, and “Elle” remind her that he is just a flirt and he’s only acting for her like he does with everyone else. One day when they are working on their project, a group of people come in lead by a man named Seekem Soulless. He tries to attack William and Gabrielle. William fights him off but Gabrielle gets hit by some sort of magical energy knocking her out. She wakes up and after William pulls himself together after thinking she died, he tells her that the group who attacked them were wizards and he himself is one too. William and Seekem have a dark past and he will stop at nothing till William joins him. If he won’t, Seekem will stop at nothing to destroy everything and everyone William cares about. They team up and try to figure out a way to stop him and not only does Gabrielle learn that she is immune to magic but that William may actually care for her and like her. Even worse, she may actually be falling for him too. Both Gabrielle and William change so much within the story. Gabrielle never thinking that love is possible for her and William slowly realizing he’s falling in love with a human even though the repercussions of that love could end up disastrous. With the help of magic, Gabrielle also learns a lot more about her past and the people she trusts may have some of the biggest secrets that can change Gabrielle’s life forever.
It was interesting to see how Gabrielle’s “personalities” worked off each other. Trying to keep a straight head without losing focus on some guy. The story was very interesting and I haven’t really read a story like this before. There were a couple grammatical errors that I noticed but nothing bad.

I didn't have a lot of expectations to this book. First I thought that the main character Gabrielle and her three personalities that's inside her head was a little bit too weird for me, but then I started to really enjoy them. They became the funnies parts in the book. I liked the really geeky parts of the book, It made the book stand out more from others. But after a while the story became boring, I didn't really understand where it was going and what the book was suppose to be about. But I still kept reading because I was curious enough to keep going. It had potential to be really good, It had depth and feelings and even a bit mystery to it. But I felt that it wasn't enough, everything felt a bit scattered. You didn't fell in love with the characters, and the events was never really exciting and sometimes it was really cheesy. It just didn't have anything that put the events, characters and the underline theme of the story together. Sometimes it even got a bit ridiculous. All in all it wasn't a great book, It was okay for the most part but it lacked a lot of things a book should have. The story itself have a lot of potential though, it just didn't execute well.

The story started off pretty good, but it faltered for me as it went along. The writing was good, but this just wasn't for me. For those who like nerdy romances with humor, and a little drama then this is for you. Even though this not my favorite genre, it was a decent read.,I have friends that would love this, I will definitely recommend it to them.
