Sweet dreams, Kitty! This adorable bedtime book from the creator of I See Kitty is perfect for tucking the very youngest cat lovers in at night. Kitty sleeps on the TV, in the sink, even in her litter box! But she never sleeps in her own bed. This follow up to Yasmine Surovec's I See Kitty shows that sometimes it takes a friend to find the perfect place to sleep. With bright, bold artwork, A Bed for Kitty will charm very young readers with its gentle humor and genuine warmth.
Yasmine Surovec loves kitties. She is the artist behind the popular comic blog and book Cat vs. Human. Originally from Manila, Philippines, she now lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband, son, and a menagerie of animals.
Chloe gets a bed for her kitty, but kitty seems to sleep everywhere except for on the new bed.
Surovec's signature style is super cute. This story is a very quick read, but is super believable for anyone who knows cats. My four year old niece absolutely LOVES this. We got it from the library four days ago and I've lost count of how many times we've read it together or she's read it to herself. Highly recommended for little cat lovers and adults looking for a quick read for little ones with short attention spans.
Recommended by Jim during a Rose info shift and with its very simple art it shows exactly what a pain in the behind kitty can be but you love her (him) anyways. This will give you a happy face if you have a kitty at home :)
The kitty wants to sleep in all the inappropriate places. . .places that her human family uses. Storyline and illustrations are weak. A title for cat lovers, but not for cat likers.
Kitty is a young girl's world. Like any member of the family it was thought a bed should be purchased for the family cat to officiate it being a member of the family, as well as to allow it to sleep not across all of their personal items. Despite how wonderful the pink bed was the girl picked out the cat wanted nothing to do with it and proceeded to sleep on everything but the bed. Bewildered and frustrated the girl sat on the cat's bed to show it how amazing it could be only to fall asleep. The illustrations were intriguing. They were done in a style that felt on the animae side, which is very different than most children's picture books. Also, the images focused just on the cat and the girl's struggles. Whenever another character, such as the girl's parents, was presented only their limbs were drawn. It is believed so the reader doesn't lose sight of the main focus of the girl and her kitty cat. The story depicts of struggles every animal owner faces of having you animal be where you want it to be. The story depicts this very well by showing the hundreds of other odd and undesirable places the cat chooses to nap. The constant struggle of the girl and the greater frustration of the parents beings humor to the story and allows one to imagine trying to wrangle their animal on a new bed.
A Bed for Kitty is the newest picture book from one of my favorite cat cartoonists on the internet, Yasmine Surovec, of Cat vs. Human. Anyone who has ever had a cat in their life will appreciate this book, which looks like it would be a great bedtime story for your little ones.
If you've ever had a cat. you've suffered through the indignity of buying a perfectly nice cat bed, only to have the cat sleep in the box that the bed arrived in, instead. This short and sweet picture book captures those trials and tribulations perfectly, showing all the places that kitty sleeps that are not the fancy new bed.
I can easily see someone sitting down to read this bedtime story to their child, with their own kitty curled up on the bed... or on the pillow... or on top of the book. You know, as cats do.
Surovec's illustrations are simple and whimsical, and perfectly capture the joys of cat ownership. Definitely pick this one up for the cat-loving child in your life.
Because she loves Kitty so much, Chloe buys her cat a bed in which to sleep. But cats don't just sleep in one place, even a bed intended solely for them, and Kitty ignores the bed and hurts Chloe's feelings. The colorful illustrations are amusing, mostly because they show all the different places Kitty chooses to sleep, even on Chloe's bed. Eventually, though, Chloe finds the right move to lure Kitty to the bed. Cat lovers will certainly enjoy this picture book intended for young readers, and those who don't love cats may decide they want to bring a cat into their lives so they can deal with their independent nature. I had to smile at the furry socks, sweaters, and slippers caused by Kitty's sleeping habits. I don't think I have a piece of clothing that isn't covered with cat hair. While my own cats love their special beds and baskets, there's just something about anything that I have worn that draws them to it for sleep time.
This is an adorable, sweet book perfect for kids you know who love cats! I have had cats just about all my life, and this book made me smile. Chloe gets her kitty a present: her own bed. She’s excited to give it to her, only to find that her cat will sleep just about anywhere else!
As a cat-lover who has experienced this exact same thing, this book made me smile. And even chuckle. It’s got cats pegged! My cat-loving kids got a kick out of this book, too.
The illustrations are colorful and beautiful. I’m happy to be sharing this book with my children.
A cute, easy to read book for young readers. Chloe gets her kitty a new bed, but Kitty will sleep every where but her bed. She sleeps on Chloe's socks, in her sink, on her chair, and just about anywhere else. Chloe wonders why this, because she got her Kitty a nice bed. It's not until Chloe lays on the bed does her Kitty come over and lay on her bed with her. I liked that this was a book my daughter and I could read together. The words are simple, and easy to read. The illustrations are just as a cute as Yasmine's previous book. I think fans of Surovec's will enjoy this one.
Surely Surovec has kitties of her own because she very accurately captures their independent personalities. (Turns out, she does, and she is the artist behind Cat vs. Human .) I'm so glad that this follow up is just as sweet and just as usable for storytimes and with the youngest cat enthusiasts.
This is a book for people who live with cats, people who fight uphill and unwinnable battles, and anyone who has ever bought a gift that was unappreciated. The illustrations are gorgeous and perfect, as they are in the style of the author's popular webcomic Cat Versus Human. Bright, funny, colorful, and perfect for people who love and are infuriated by their cats.
Kitty loves sleeping everywhere but her brand new bed, much to the surprise and bewilderment of Chloe. Through bold, bright colors and simple text, Kitty shows Chloe that sometimes it takes a friend to find the perfect place to sleep. This book, best suited for ages 3-6, will charm readers with gentle humor and sweet ending.
Cat lovers will enjoy A Bed for Kitty, and will recognize the finickiness of kitty who just won't sleep on her new bed. But will certainly sleep everywhere else, much to the frustration of her owners.
A good book for toddlers and preschoolers, especially for those who have cats. The illustrations are simple and cozy and the text very short. Chloe has purchased a bed for her cat, and where does Kitty want to sleep? Anywhere but her bed!
This story is very accurate as far as anyone who has ever owned a cat is concerned. Cats tend not to like the things that you want them to like (unless you also like them). It is a silly story, but is best read to children who have direct experiences with cats themselves.
Kitty gets a new bed but she's doing everything but sleep in it. Why doesn't she like it? Will Chloe figure out what's going on and is there a happy ending???
A very sweet and accurate depiction of how silly kitties behave. The kitty and little girl (also depicted in other books by Surovec) are completely adorable.
