This glorious celebration of motherhood features stories and personal recollections by popular writers. It is sprinkled with wonderfully touching and funny anecdotes from figures such as Jilly Cooper, Arabella Weir, and Jenni Murray and features cartoons by Posy Simmonds, Sally Ann Lasson, and illustrations by Shirley Hughes and Quentin Blake. This rich treasure trove reflects the many voices of motherhood from across the generations.
Gave this to my mum on Mothers Day last year; should be offended I got it back but she never keeps books once read. A sometimes funny, frequently schmaltzy collection from authors I wouldn't normally read.
Ironically, my favourite story was actually written by a man: John O'Farrell's imagining of the life of a US state governor's wife is touching and thought-provoking, especially in the wake of the UK politicians' expenses scandal. And I, always on the lookout for such things, loved the breastfeeding acceptability cartoon at the end of the book.
