Hiromu Arakawa (author: 荒川弘) is a Japanese manga artist, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師 Hagane no renkinjutsushi). Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa
Arakawa was born and raised on a dairy farm in Hokkaidō. She thought of being a manga artist since she was little. After graduating high school, she took oil painting classes while working on her family's farm. During that time, she also created dōjinshi manga with her friends and drew yonkoma for a magazine. After eight years she moved to Tōkyō and started out as assistant writer for Hiroyuki Etō. Her debut as manga artist is in 1999 with STRAY DOG. In 2001 she started working on her famous and award winning series Fullmetal Alchemist, that soon gets a successful anime adaptation. Other works include Silver Spoon (銀の匙 Silver Spoon, Gin no saji Silver Spoon).
There's an exciting fight with a daemon pair, and then the various factions noodle around until a new, more dangerous daemon pairing is introduced in time to pull me along to the next volume, which, luckily, I happen to have on hand.
There are too many characters and too little focus right now, but even Arakawa's weaker material can be pretty engaging with enough action and bantering.
But my character cheat sheet just keeps getting longer and longer, giving me worries that there won't be room for action and bantering when so many characters are fighting for screen time.

I admit I blew a lot of my concentration on my last review, so if this is a little weaksauce, sorry.
I also admit I forgot a lot of what happened in the prior book, so it starts out somewhat confusing—definitely a poor candidate for a "books in a series where you can jump straight into the middle of the story" list.
On the whole, the story still feels like Hero Tales but contemporary fantasy rather than a period piece, especially in the way Yuru specifically acts around modern technology. There's a little less of that in this volume, since Yuru spends more time fighting or being protected from two daemons in specific, though.
Actually, is it more like if Fullmetal Alchemist crossed over a bit into contemporary Japan? ...ish? Nah, slightly more fighting-focused than military shenanigans.
Anyway, fight-focused volume, with a side of surprise family. Okay read but I don't know if I'm sold on the series as a whole, even if so far I have kept every Arakawa book I've ever gotten.
The fight at the start of this volume was so much fun, and I loved how everyone got to play a part in it. I really enjoy the artwork and the clear linework is really spot on. First off, the crew battles Tenaga and Ashinaga, long arm and long leg, in a battle of wits and goofiness.
They then discover Ken Tadera, who is basically Dera's half brother and a clue to finding the head of the clan. The Kagemori clan has a lot of shady angles and the politicking and scheming are what make up most of the second half. We now have a new villain tied to the Kagemori clan who's infiltrated the mountain village and may be setting off on a massacre. We'll see where all this goes.
Side note: Not quite sure why Jin is on the cover of this volume, he's there for like 5 seconds.

4.25/5 Another great installment in this series. This volume provides some more insight into the wider world and ends on quite the cliffhanger. We spend most of our time with Yuru and his group, including getting a little bit more information about the Tadera clan. This volume has some great worldbuilding and some comedic moments as well. This series continues to be fantastic.
This volume is as okay. Not gonna lie though, I 100% had forgotten what was happening so I was mega confused at the beginning xD
This just wasn't stand out for me is all. Important introduction to villains and other characters, but not a lot of oomph factor for me. Lots of witty banter though, which I did find very amusing.
This is too much. So many open ended questions that need to be answered and the newest daemon pair at the end of this volume... are wild. I have to read five and six. I have them taken out the library already.

As much as I simp over Hiromu Arakawa’s work, I still find I’m on the fence with this one. I have the next few volumes to hopefully draw me in. Maybe things will improve on a second reading.
