A motorcycle club dark-and-twisted paranormal romance with his MC brother's sister...

Khan
is in charge of Rolling Thunder’s professional submissives. He manages them (herding feral cats would be easier), he protects them, and he trains them when they wish to advance their skills. There’s no shortage of women at the local BDSM clubs who want Khan to take them home and hurt them, and he frequently has from one to four submissives in his home, but he’s given up hope of finding his very own pet or slave — his needs are too dark, too evil. The human part of him wants to hurt them, his wolf wants to smell their terror, and the combination of the two had, so far, sent even the most hard-core of masochists running for the hills before he’d barely gotten started. So, no more relationships, and no more trusting a masochist could actually handle him at his worst, no matter the promises made ahead of time.

Tempe, short for Temperance, is a self-described maso-slut, chasing the ultimate sadist. She’s been with the same Master three years, and when that relationship crashes and burns, her brother moves back to Birmingham to keep her safe. His MC brothers are supposed to help protect her, but she senses one is a kindred spirit, and makes sure he overhears when she’s talking to another woman and shares her fantasies: magnitudes of violence and violation while choked with terror.

Warning: Triggers. All the triggers. Every one of them. Proceed with caution.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Candace Blevins writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, epic fantasy contemporary BDSM romance, and two kick-ass motorcycle club series. She’s published more than fifty books. Candace lives with her husband of twenty-four years and their two teenaged daughters. The family’s beloved, goofy, retired racing greyhounds are usually at her side as she writes, quietly keeping her company. Or sometimes not so quietly.

Her urban fantasy series, Only Human, gives us a world where weredragons, werewolves, werelions, three different species of vampires, and a variety of other mythological beings exist.

Candace's various paranormal romance series are all sister series to the Only Human series, and give some secondary characters their happily ever after.

Her Dark(ish) Faerie Tale series gives us a close-up and personal look at Queen Mab, and her Dark Underbelly series is, as you’d expect, dark and (if you’re a little twisted) oh-so-yummy.

Her contemporary Safeword series gives us characters who happen to have some extreme kinks. Relationships can be difficult enough without throwing power exchange into the mix, and her books show characters who care enough about each other to fight to make the relationship work. Each couple in the Safeword series gives the reader a different take on the lifestyle.

If you've read my posts before, you know that I'm a fan of Candace Blevin's writing, so when she was concerned that one of her new books might be too extreme, my curiosity was engaged. She kindly sent me a beta copy and here's my review. And my disclaimer: this book is full of trigger-potential material and thus so is the review. If anything is the realm of sadomasochistic sex is uncomfortable to you, I strongly suggest you skip the review and the book.

It never would have occurred to me that I'd describe a book with extremely sadomasochistic BDSM scenes as comforting, but I sort of found it that way. The majority of this book focuses on the development of the relationship between the sadist who spends of a lot of energy reining himself in and the maso-slut who continually walks the line between her needs and her safety. There is enough external drama to set them up to meet, but it doesn't drag out. In the development of their relationship, they are both very self-aware and what could be fraught with craziness is relatively smooth.

They talk; they have crazy, filthy sex; and they figure out what works. And when I say crazy, filthy... I genuinely mean it. This is a TPE relationship with consensual rape (which I know is a disputed term, but it gets the point across), water play, edge play, blood play, basically all the physical extremes and intentionally high levels of damage. Which isn't completely out of the norm for Candace's books, but it stands out because the masochist is human and not able to repair damage like a paranormal creature would.

Khan is, in fact, an evil genius. I love fictional Doms, who lean hard into the psychological aspects of BDSM, in a way that's sadly lacking from most IRL. When Tempe feels the shaved scalp I actually groan-laughed out loud, because it was the perfect touch.

I've said it before, if a scene is well-written, I can get into it, even if the specific activities are outside my personal interests. I love self-aware characters and although this relationship is full of situations that could easily lead to drama explosions, it doesn't. That's why I found it a comforting read - there were no artificial moments of craziness just to expand the plot. The adrenaline all comes from the high-stakes sex.

Well that was quite the story! These two characters have extreme needs and I loved how they explored and figured out what worked for them. That was the part of the story I absolutely loved, the communication and realizations that came from them interacting with each other. Yes, some of the scenes they had were intense, but knowing that is what they wanted meant you experienced from their perspective, and that it fed their desires. Khan and Tempe are strong and confident in who they are, and how they are, individually, but together, they are their absolute best self. That was the part that drew me in deep with their story. I devoured this book in one sitting, I was so wrapped up in it, I couldn’t put it down!

This book just proves there is someone for everyone. So much of this book was way over my comfort line, but what I liked about it was from the day that Khan and Tempe met they talked about things and Khan knew the "bad" things about Tempe and due to his own "bad" nature totally understood her and got what she was talking about. In fact it seemed like Khan got things that Tempe didn't hadn't realized about herself yet. I especially liked it when Kahn and Dom were able to clue Tempe in about them being shifters. Later on Tempe realized how/why Khan was able to know things about her when she hadn't talked about them yet. It was great to see the two work out a relationship that worked for them and be happy.

While there was lots of talking between Khan and Tempe, it seemed like there was just as much talking between Khan and Dom. Tempe was his sister and Khan and Dom were very good friends, along with being brothers in the MC. So Dom knew what both were into. At the start there was a hands off conversation between the men, but then seeing how they interacted Dom backed off. Later Khan talked to Dom about wanting to claim Tempe and really let her see his darker side, Dom knowing what that meant. All the conversations really eased the big brother who was watching out for his sister, who had the potential to be harmed if around the wrong man.

It was also fun to see Tempe be welcomed into the old ladies and all the fun that group had. It seemed like that friendship was something that Tempe was missing and needed.

This was surprising and enthralling in all the right ways and ways I didn’t think I’d enjoy as much as I did. I’m not usually a huge fan of the extreme Sado-Masochism type scenes. Usually in a lot of books when it’s done and it doesn’t feel real and more forced. This was not that in any way, shape or form - which is awesome. The plot flows in a realistic way that feels authentic and has a good balance between spicy scene parts, with plot scenes, and the more releationship/intimacy scenes between the main characters. The plot scenes fit in with the romance and don’t feel just added in to give the story a begin/middle/ending that’s wraps up the loose ends but rather fits in seamlessly with the romantic aspect. You can’t help but want the HEA for them.
About the spicy parts: the warning in the beginning of the book is very accurate: “Triggers. All the triggers. Every one of them.” With that said - holy crap, OMG! I had to decide between putting my phone down to cool down and wanting to keep reading. It had TPE, Consensual Rape, BDSM on the extreme side and a sadistic dim that is a master in psychology that makes you wonder which way is up or down. It mixed the Master/Slave with Pet Play in ways that are both hot, awe-inspiring and yet somehow also sweet.
Tempe is a kick ass main character female that isn’t someone waiting for a man to save her. She knows herself and what she wants. She doesn’t let her new love or her big brother tell her what to do on the things that are important to her. She’s also not the damsel in distress. She’s literal and real. But she also doesn’t run into trouble blindly and lets RTMC handle what they do best.
Reading about Wrench in the story just made me so excited and ready to dive into his story!

Dark Shifter & MC Romance

Ok lots of Dark S&M stuff in this story because the main male character is a Sadist and the main female character is a Masochist and they are both extreme about their kink. Good HEA at the end. Lots and lots of butt stuff as well as the usual MC action

This writer has an extensive or even exhaustive understanding (physical, mental and emotional) of master/slave relationships and sadist/masochist dynamics. BUT.
At that point I'm convinced CB is Payne Hall on Literotica (or really we have a gifted copycat in the house): a big part of the kinks, scenes and the overall writing DNA of this particular book are instantly recognizable if you've read Sadist's Fire, Nightmare Master or The Slavemaker on that other platform. No biggie, everyone has to pay the bills: taking inspiration from previous worthy stories will never be a sin.
Now my problem with this book here is that CB is reusing that old material & then cranking up the "shock factor", sacrificing the romance for more fear and outrage and ewww! and yes, at one moment people will tap out because hardcore masochistic readers are not frequent and torture porn will be a hard limit for many of them. Pain is one thing, permanent marks another but then you have that pesky RACK principle that gets in the way (fantasy ≠ bucket list as perfectly explained in the story).
The whole shapeshifter layer felt like a trendy plot device (& really I just ignored it because not my thing). I took note of the vamp blood to heal mortal wounds on humans (will happen in the next books obviously). Rolled my eyes at the kiddo vamp character like in Interview with a vampire... ZZZzz. Mixing BDSM which is a very real thing & fantasy (imaginary biology and anatomy) is a very tricky process & it's jarring most of the time.
On a sidenote, I felt like we were in a post apo universe at one point which would explain the passivity of most female characters. Didn't read the 4 previous books in the series so maybe?
The MC stuff is another thing that doesn't work for me but I knew that from the beginning: Silly titles, pompous hierarchy or rituals and ridiculous protocols... Little boys pretending to be Bad Boys will amuse any woman with a spine & basically they don't scare me: they draw the Domme in me so that I could give them a good spanking when they misbehave... Ooops? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So there. By wanting to mix everything (boeuf bourguignon, caviar, cheesecake & mimosa cocktail) in the same pot, I suspect this series doing a U turn will upset the previous fans. Sticking to your lane instead of trying to surf the wave of the latest fads is still often a good advice & I wish the writer would have started a new lifestyle series instead of grafting BDSM content on something else.
Will I read the next books in the series? I'm getting good at compartmentalizing my fun so yes if the BDSM tag applies. Now will those stories be rereads & will my ratings increase? We'll have to see. If the worst happens I'll still have Jackson & his red head sweetheart to keep me company "over there" at Sulfur.🤫

Khan, Wrench & his little sister Temperance

First off I am so NOT a masochist!! This is a MC story of a bitten werewolf brother who's a member, a little sister who needed to be safe, & a Sadist werewolf looking for His own little maso-slut, fear whore, & pet!

Almost instantly there is attraction between Khan & Tempe. Dom/Wrench, isn't happy with this beginning of something. He knew she needed pain & that Khan could deliver it. So she was off limits to all the other MC Brothers. Which suited them both perfectly.. Tempe doesn't know they are werewolves yet! When she finds out she meets Brooke, the ancient child vampire. To say the least she was totally freaked out!

After learning about it, she was really ok with it all. Tempe is very intelligent & was able to remember everything, which meant she could figure things out pretty quickly, only she'd never thought they were two beings in one!

Everything progresses nicely. Wrench becomes more & more ok with their relationship, so he's not pulling rank as big brother. And he already knows just how intense that Khan is. And what Tempe needs is all that & more!

Like I said this girl's a sub (me that is), but definitely NOT a masochist. Let me tell you that the way that Candace writes makes you want to get the kind of loving going on between Khan & Tempe. Fantasy is really great for that kind of thought process! I'm learning so much about myself that it's crazy the things I find myself thinking!

So if you're not into extreme sadism, then this is not the story for you. If you've read all her other books then you can handle this one! Love comes in all shapes, sizes & lifestyles! And this one is a heavy duty Love Story!! I loved it!

Enjoy another exciting, adventurous story from Candace Blevins!! I've met her. She's a beautiful, purple haired woman whose writing is simply phenomenal!!!

Enjoy!!!!

Enthralling but appalling

This book is more in the vein of her Safeword series with extreme kink. However, the Birmingham MC series is kinkier than her Chattanooga MC. This story is not for everyone and the trigger warnings were accurate. The vocabulary is also cruder than her other MC books.

With that being said, the couple is perfect for each other, they are soulmates with impressive compatibility. I was a little bit sceptical with their instant lust\love but I guess when someone finds the one who perfectly fits in their everyday life and especially their extreme kink, they don't waste time. I enjoyed reading the journey of Temperance in her new environment, reconnecting with her brother, and being welcomed into the MC family. Still, half of the book is the couple testing their violent compatibility.

Those are my favourite elements in this book:
- the female lead is multilayered, she has an incredible memory, she is street smart, intriguing. I really like how Candace Blevins writes a majority of strong and smart female leads.
-Asian representation in a MC environment, I think it's rare
-endorsement of therapy
-always nice to have cameos of the other MC couples
- Candace Blevins is very eloquent and this story is well crafted, is it not trashy and I always learn new vocabulary words (English is not my first language)
-looking forward to the brother's story

These are the things that made me uneasy:
- romanticising violence, violation, cruelty, and demeaning vocabulary. I understand this is their thing, but it is still brutal to read and I do not want to be desensitized to violence.
-bodily fluids

I recommend this book to readers who are not bother by mindfucks, violence, but still enjoy soulmates

Please, please if nothing else, heed the warning in the blurb of the book. This book is extreme in its intensity which only adds to rather than diminish its excellence.

If you're looking for a tender, hearts and flowers romance then Khan is not the book for you. It's erotic. It's gritty. It's extreme. It not only pushes boundaries but obliterates them altogether. That being said, Candace Blevins has created two unforgettable characters and woven them into a mesmerizing tale. I'll admit that I gasped more than once and definitely cringed a few times but I didn't make me want to put Khan down.

Khan had some idea of what Tempe was like based on her brother's insights but he definitely wasn't prepared for the woman. Tempe is completely forthright in her needs and desires. She makes no apologies for who and/or what she is. She's highly intelligent and quick witted with an exceptional memory. She has a strong moral compass. She wants to be owned. There's only one downside--she's human. Khan is the RTMC trainer of subs and slaves for both the pro-subs and for personal use. His inner darkness could be compared to a sadistic monster. He maybe a stern taskmaster but he's also a caring, thoughtful one when the need arises. The more they explore their kinks and needs the deeper these two fall. She is everything he's ever wanted. Khan is the Master she's always needed. When they get over one last hurdle, it solidifies their commitment and their love

Straight up? This is BDSM-intense. The warning is in the blurb. Heed it.

I don't think Candace Blevins knows how to write characters that don't explore TOGETHER, and put in the hard work every moment of their developing journeys, but this particular story is about as intense as she's been.
A reader will need to put in the hard work too; to step back and think beyond themselves and put everything in the context of these characters, and what they want/need and how they get there. Even with the paranormal aspect of the story and with how many of her books I've enjoyed over the years, I had to reorient myself a few times. And I thought a lot, and I learned a lot, and I re-evaluted my thought processes a lot. And once again, I found myself eternally grateful for Ms. Blevins' meticulous characters and settings that are unforgivingly real and to the point. "Real" centred me and reminded me that everyone's story is theirs alone. All I need to do, is appreciate the PEOPLE in the story. Full stop.
And then I could sit back and give this chapter in the wonderfully evolving urban fantasy that is RTMC, the appreciation it deserves. As well as its author, btw.

Candace Blevins’ “Khan” is an intense read that is more in line with the intensity of her Safeword books but with the added element of werewolves. Khan and Tempe are a great balance to each other, each giving the other exactly what they need. Both are unapologetic when it comes to their “relationship” preferences and the way they fit together surprised them both. I was in awe with how well Ms. Blevins showcased their scenes and while even I was surprised at how far Khan would take Tempe, I loved how carefully each moment was crafted and how he was continually keyed in to how she was doing at all times. And while all that is great for fictional characters, I’m so impressed with how well the scenes were crafted and how they built in intensity. I say this a lot, and I mean it every time, but when it comes to relationships and character dynamics, this author gets it. Every single time. Her characters are amazing and very real. Just, um, don’t try anything they did unsupervised. Delightful, intense, an absolute page turner for me.

I’ll start off as Candace has in her blurb…this book has triggers, all the triggers, reader beware.

That being said, I had no problems reading Khan’s story. Candace’s characters are so well written, every scene is so full of details and even though I don’t live the lifestyle I certainly enjoy reading about it and I find this author is one of the best at writing it.

Khan knows what he wants and didn’t think he’d ever find a pet or slave, his needs are extreme, but in walks Tempe who also has extreme needs. What follows is pretty intense as they feel each other out, can he provide what she needs and can she handle his beast. As they reach their HEA, in only a way that can fit and work for them, you can see and feel that they are soulmates.

The storyline flowed from their relationship to the MC family, whom we’ve met in other books, and of course the reason for Tempe being in Khan’s house, her brother Wrench, his story is next.

Welp... my my goodness. There's reason this writer is one of my favorites.

I don't see dark but I see intense whew. It was definitely hard to put down.

Khan. I mean what can I say. Sexy hot precise. He becomes housemates with a brother plus 1. Really no hardship for Khan he has more space than he could ever use.

The plus 1 isnt all sugar and honey, but she's up front with her new housemate and promises to be good.

With the old boss in jail the team be wanting a payday... who better to know than the boss' girl.

All locked up and basically a prisoner, so deals are struck. The brother not "happy" but he gets its.

Nicely done Ms Blevins. My mind pictured each description. Some very hot, some I was like o.m.g. and re-read that part again. I even thing my fingertips sweated. Not for the faint of heart but so so very worth getting into. Enjoy.

This book could’ve easily fit into this author’s safe word series. I’m not a fan of that series as it’s incredibly boring & revolves around the sex with simplified story arcs & plot. I found this book to bf the same.
The paranormal aspect has in this book was minimal the MMC could’ve easily been human & nothing significant would’ve changed. They could even keep the motorcycle club aspect just made them human. No big change. The mandatory vampire chaperone while the big reveal was given to the human FMC could’ve easily been edited out & kept the story arc, sex, kinks, characters the same. Which Imo ruins the whole reason we’re interested in paranormal books. New worlds & new species & with each new species the political climate that comes with them. It’s escapism at its best. This was just MC erotica 🤷🏻‍♀️ disappointed.

Khan is the manager and trainer for professional submissives in a club run by the Rolling Thunder MC, a sadist whose needs are too dark for all but the most die-hard masochists. Wrench and his sister Tempe (AKA Temperance) are moving into a wing of the twelve-bedroom home Khan owns as she is moving to Birmingham. Khan is a wolf shifter, while Wrench is a wolf shifter turned after being bitten, but his sister Tempe is human. She is a masochist who is looking for a new master in a Total Power Exchange relationship...but could Khan be the sadist who makes her dreams of being hurt until she screams come true??? A reader should beware of possible triggers and extreme torture scenes in this book...I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.

Holy Heck! This is not for the faint of heart but having said that.. I loved Khan. This book gave me all the feels. I laughed. I cried (mainly in sympathy). I squirmed (Tempe accepted some extreme action). I fell in love with Khan and Tempe together.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Ms. Blevins has a way with words. She has a way of making things so outside my personal comfort level seem normal. I knew that Khan would need someone special. He was extreme even for his brothers but I loved getting to know him on a personal level. I loved seeing how his deviousness was spurred on Tempe's lack of limits. I loved that in Khan she found someone willing to understand her needs and safely meet them. I loved seeing them become more than their sexual needs but a couple.

Wow..I am a big fan of her bdsm romance novels and this book sucked me into the story from reading first chapter. I have sooooo many highlights for this book that I loved:) I know she said this book has all triggers that you could think of so I was really really prepared for extreme scenes. Some scenes made me shiver and cringe but I still wanted to read more about Khan and Tempe. These two really are a perfect match! The way she accepts Khan's twisted and evil kinks...wow...! Hopefully we see them a lot in Wrench's book because I need more!

No ducks were harmed in the writing of this book. Read the book to understand why. :)

There are those who practice SSC. There are those who practice RACK. Khan throws these both out the door and is a Dom who goes balls to the walls. Full disclosure, this is not a gateway into BDSM book. This is an experienced kinkster read. The BDSM scenes in this story are intense, edgyplay, and deviant. I loved it.

Rich, compelling and cringeworthy! Always pushing the envelope and yet portraying characters that are full-bodied, Khan is more than just the extreme sex scenes that make you want to pull out pen and paper just to try figure out if they are physically possible. In true Blevins’s style, Khan and Tempe delve deep into their relationship and her warning about their story having “all the triggers” is as real and forthright as each relationship she’s written. I love this addition to the RTMC world and as always can’t wait for more.

I read the initial chapters and I was wild to read this book. I couldn't wait to see what was in store for me. Now she wasn't lying about all the triggers. However I was much more into the state of their emotional connection than I was about any mechanics of their kinks. When your desires are hard to meet it can feel incredibly isolating. I was so happy that they found each other and it was also interesting to me to see them work through any potential difficulties to find out that they were a match for watch other. I was also happy to see enough of her brother since his book is next...

Whenever I start one of Ms Blevins books I know she'll push the the k!nk-envelop as far as it will go and then some.
But this time she shredded the envelope and went straight off into the stratosphere!
Khan and Temperance defy all efforts to put their relationship, their intensity, their unique extremes, into some kind of describing, acceptable, form!
This is a case of, you have to read it to believe it.
WoW!
She truly outdid herself with this one!

4.8 Wow. I never thought I would write this about a TPE story. But I actually loved it. Maybe its because the one on the receiving end knew what she wanted and this really worked for her. Khan is an extreme sadist but he knew all along he had to have a partner who could except it and him like he is. And Tempe told hum from the start she was but he had been burnt before be women who thought they were. But Tempe really was meant to be his. They complete each other. It just works for each of them.

I never considered myself to have a hard limit while reading bdsm, I'm fine reading anything until this book
My insides were twisting reading it and I myself was worried.
Did that stop me from continuing the book? Absolutely not, I more than enjoyed the whole thing
And it's absolutely not my last read by the author, in fact I can't wait to start the next book and see what kinks I'll find
Really great job with the book

Khan is a motorcycle club dark-and-twisted paranormal romance with as the author warns ALL THE TRIGGERS. Theirs is not a sweet romance. They shouldn’t even be thinking of being together. She’s human and everything he could want in a woman but oh so breakable. She wants to be broken repaired and broken again. These two were made for each other and thank goodness for it because I wouldn’t want to wish them on any other. I don’t understand their kind of love but it is a love

Saying I loved it doesn't begin to express the profound effect it had on me.

Least favorite. This book felt like it read like a list or a set of instructions. The play is slightly disturbing, but that is not the reason for the poor rating. The flow of the book, felt like the author needed to get the information out so it was almost written in bullet points.

I received an eArc

Khan is evilly sadistic and Tempe loves it.
I will admit that at times, my stomach rolled and my mouth hung open at what was happening.
I found it captivating...not sure that is the right word lol but I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what Khan would do next to Tempe.
Definitely worth reading....just be prepared to be shocked and somewhat turned on
