2124 was an interesting year... I was court-martialed, demoted and sentenced to perform hard labor for the rest of my natural life... Then things got rough.

"Commodore Catherine Kimbridge... It is the judgment of this court, that for crimes against the people of the Galactic Coalition of Planets -- namely a wanton dereliction of duty in allowing the murder of a head of state in your custody -- that you should be demoted in rank to private and transported in chains to the Sagatori asteroid penal colony in the Ashkelon star system. There you will remain for the rest of your natural life."

Admiral Bud Faragon slammed his gavel down.
"This court is adjourned and may God have mercy on your soul!"

I am a geek with a passion for God [I am a fulltime Presbyterian Pastor/Retired computer programmer.]

I'm an unrepentant technologist with over 25 years in the "Information Technology" field -much of it as a Senior Manager of Research and Development.

I have a wonderful wife named Lori, and two fantastic daughters... CJ and Jackie. CJ is ten years the elder and is in college (Muskingum University, New Concord Ohio).

All four of us love Science Fiction, Scuba Diving and good food. Lori and the girls share a passion for music and the piano - regrettably I have absolutely no skills in this area. I do have a passion for Notre Dame and Green Bay Packer Football.

About my writing...

My current passion is a pure Science Fiction series following the adventures of a future "Horatio Hornblower" style character called "Admiral Catherine Kimbridge". I have also co-authored a fantasy series with my eldest daughter (CJ) called "The Ways of Mages"

PLEASE NOTE: All of the proceeds from the first book in each series goes to funding food banks and homeless ministries... So enjoy an inexpensive read and know that you are helping someone else in the process!

Blessings
Pastor Andy

My original Exploration audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Commodore Catherine Kimbridge goes undercover to discover why spaceships of citizens are being captured and stop the culprits.  Her nanobot enhancements and loyal mates accompany her through a maze of aliens and into the unknown vastness of space.  It is her exceptional skills and wits that stand between death and success.

The strange race of aliens who are responsible for abducting the thousands of humans are not what they seem.  They are slavers, but not all of them believe in the ancient ways.  When they are faced with their own daemons, it is Catherine who must save not only her own people, but her enemies too.

Catherine rises quickly to a trusted position on the alien ship, almost too quickly.  It may be hard for the listener to hold his or her disbelief at the incompetence and simplistic nature of the alien enemies.  They don’t feel all that scary or threatening.  The plot runs along at a fast and linear pace as Catherine continues to save the day.  Any suspense that may have developed, seems to be sucked away at her inevitable successes.

There are interesting worlds and universes that they discover along the way.  The moral dilemma of the slaver aliens is also interesting along with their evolutionary source.  It is a generally entertaining story with several battles and explorations.

The story is performed by L. C. Kane, who does an adequate job.  Her voice is easy to listen to and her character voices are fine.

Exploration is a space opera novel, the third in an ongoing series about the adventures of Catherine Kimbridge.  It is a discrete novel that doesn’t appear to need its predecessor to work; nor does it leave much unresolved that you are looking to read the next for conclusion.  It is a straightforward novel that is generally entertaining, without much suspense.

I enjoyed Exploration very much. Yes it is military science fiction, but I like the fact that there is room in the future for compassionate, loving human Christians as well as various alien races. Plus I did enjoy the brief mention that both creation and evolution are compatible. At least that is what I got out of the paragraph. I will continue to read this series, and will research where our generation is in the development of nanites. I enjoy an author that can develop worlds so well that I think of them as "real" and wonder what it would be like to live there. I also enjoy a Christian author who is not heavy handed with scripture, but shows how a Christian life should be lived through the life of different characters. Some characters do not categorize themselves as following Christ, but they act like He would.

Better booked in the last several I have read.

A much better booked in the last several I have read, a lot more action a lot more science fiction but sadly not enough character development with Catherine. The last several books I read in this series were a little bit ludicrous to me, you are in the middle of a battle and you are showing mercy to people who want to kill you not very realistic. I understand he believed for mercy because I too am a minister but is Ecclesiastes says there is a time and place for everything this book is more realistic. I still enjoyed the series I just wish Catherine would show more of her abilities in the next or upcoming books.

Nothing is Impossible

The Galactic Coalition of Planets is preyed on by a slaver society from a neighboring universe. Cat won’t allow this and by baiting them into capturing her, walks right through their front door. As fortune would have it, Cat’s new master is the leader of a secret rebel faction that is attempting to facilitate a cultural emancipation. Conflict is inevitable but the GCP and their ever growing alliance and unending technological advances can give as good as they get. I enjoyed this book, and the ones before it, but you have to check your common sense at the airlock and be accepting of the technological impossibilities. Unfortunately, I won't be continuing the saga. At the current cost of $4 per book, each less than 200 pages with 6 more to go, I am too frugal to finish CK's journey. Unless the author gifts me the rest of the series, which I will most likely positively review, I'll just have to wait till I sign up for KU.

These books aren't bad. The third was a very quick read and was reasonably entertaining. The whole creator/religion thing isn't annoying, but it is also by no means subtle. I would put this in the same category as low-grade christian rock. Sounds like rock, and it takes a bit of focused listening if it's on in the background to realize what it is. This feels similar. Reads like science fiction (although heavy on the "magical" leaps of tech/intuition), and it takes a bit before you are convinced that it's religious in nature. Not enough to be distracting overall, almost cute in the attempt.

Better and Better

This is the third book in the CBC series that continues to entertain this reader. Aside from a fast moving plot, these stories have the added feature of searching for Alien names that are English names spelled backwards. Adds a little spice to the mix. Have a go..you'll have a good timr

That was an amazing story but I felt like the conclusion was anticlimactic. I hope it get settled in the next book!
