It feels like you are reading the ramblings of a seven year old. When the author is talking about one character just about every paragraph starts with their name, or she states the same fact over and over and over and over and over again, to the point that you're yelling at the book "NO SHIT!!!!!!" For instance Erec, one of the main characters is fighting 300, yes you read that right, knights and he throws a chain that wraps around a tree before they had time to react and it trips up a few of the houses because they had no time to react, and fall from the chain because they had no time to react. Our the lane fight sequences like so and so was going to have no time to block a blow but Thor sees this and rights across and cuts the chain. The ridiculousness continues over and over again. Seriously don't waste your time on this.
I don't know about the other books, but in the last of this bundle, the english grammar went astray in some places with such phrases as "...they had ran..." and "...they had went...". Maybe it happened before but I read the previous books too fast to notice! I'm still enjoying the series, although not really convinced of the authenticity of the revelation of who Thor's real father is. We'll find out in the next books no doubt!
I hate this series, and I really wanted it to be good I read through to book 12! hoping that it would improve, but I can't read anymore of it, its like the author wants to torture his readers, I feel like the author dragged the story on long past when he should have ended it, and the constant rollercoaster of everything going well to the bad guys are winning and everything is going horrible and back again is so frustrating and irritating. Plus I don't like the parts where some of the characters get raped, this really bothers me. through this whole series so far, I've been annoyed at the lack of justice for the people suffering and by the whole thing where the bad things happening to them is being blamed on fate its like their saying, "oh its fate, its just how it is live with it." I can't believe I read this far into the series, but I can't read another book!
I can see why these books get so many bad reviews, they are in need of editing. However, they are also entertaining, enjoyable and imaginative.
The characters do need to be more realistic, especially in regard to falling in love - but again, it is fiction, where nothing is real. It's a shame that someone cannot tighten its editing / proofreading so that so many errors could be caught and repetition harnessed.
I love the plot, the idea behind the story and the imaginative details for the land and creatures. I think the pace is great and the writing style and tone are good.
Overall, a great fantasy adventure, which would be improved with a thorough edit.
Recommended to sword and sorcery fans who will suspend disbelief.
I just finished The Bundle of the Sorcerer’s Ring (Books 4,5,6). I have reviewed each book separately but this last book is the most climatic of the 3. In “A Charge of Valor” Gwen becomes green but the kingdom is lost as Andronicus destroys everything in sight. Thor journeys to recover the Sword of Valor that was stolen from Kings Court and taken to be hidden for ever. Thor’s journey brings him to the land of the Empire where everything is much different and danger is around every turn.
Once again your left on a knife edge, I'm amazed how the Author can have so many story lines going and be able to keep you captivated in all of them at the same time whilst changing from one to another, I have already got the next bundle of books to start, and I'm hoping the storyline will be as good as the previous books
There are a lot of typos in these books words that are missing or the wrong word altogether even extra words. Sometimes it takes a second to figure out but they are fun to read.
Wow. A lot going on in this book. Warriors fighting, the shield down and inhuman beasts coming to the capital. A new queen, dragons, a quest for the lost sword of power and new friendships. Great read.
I have in my life read hundreds of science fiction books .Never in a number of years have I in any books been so fueled up to get to the next book, try the first book and you will be hooked.
The premise of the story is great but the execution leaves something to be desired. It feels like it was written by a child with repeated phrases, grammar mistakes and wrong names being used on a regular basis. A good editor would vastly improve this series.
I have to stop reading the series. Each book left me feeling sadder and emptier than the one before. The violence against women is painful to read and heart breaking. The violence is tastefully written, but I can't take the threats and attacks. The men go from one battle to the next. There are no moments of happiness, no food, family, or recovery. The back-stabbing without "bad" people being held accountable is tiring. Six books and no evil pay back. I am glad I bought the 3 book set because I would have quit at book 4. That was tough. I made it through 5 and the reward at the end of 6 brought me up. Knowing the name of Thor's father is a huge shock. I am curious how the "good" people's stories continue and resolve. However, the books are not working for me. The stories are dropping into formulas (few fight a 100; lose a hand; arrow thru throat) and taking away from how much I care about the "good" people. I can't spend time on this and end feeling so bad.
While I started out liking these books, I found that I couldn't continue to read them. Throughout the series, there were inconsistencies that I was willing to overlook for the sake of a good story. Eventually, these inconsistencies became downright unforgivable. the main character became evil at the drop of a hat and the sister of the queen shifted gears so fast, the whole storyline broke down.
I think these books had potential, but the poor characters killed it.
Yes the writing is corny, and sometimes very hypocritical (not so spoilers for books 4-6 but Theres a bad guy, A, and when he's introduced the sentence is like, he's the type of man to never take prisoners, he kills everyone; and then THE VERY NEXT PARAGRAPH it goes: He turns to his prisoner to interrogate him) So theres that but like.. I'm already on Book 7 and I'm pretty into it so I want to find out how it ends lol I'm enjoying it, but yes the writing style is a little corny.
All the books are well written, held my interest, good storyline and characters :) My only problem is that there are more and more editing mistakes as you get further along in the books. Sometimes whole words are missing from a sentence, once a character was mis-named, sometimes there are extra words in a sentence. These mistakes grew tiresome quickly, but I was able, most of the time, to skim past these while still getting the meaning of the sentence.
all of the very best and the very worst have happened to Thor and those he loves. he and his closest friends of the Legion have traveled to the Empire to retrieve the Destiny Sword. Gwen, her brothers and her people have attacked and are captured by Andronicus of the Empire who plans to enslave or kill them all. it is their fate. right?
fantasy at its best, tantalizing reading. The most prolific author I have come across in ages. Ranked up with Asimov, Heinlein, Piers Anthony and Farmer etc.
These books were complicated. They kept you interested but then jumped around to another character which was frustrating. It was like once you got into a particular characters story line it changed to another character.
Most of you have read the reviews of the previous books in the series. The grammar continues to be an issue, as we'll as characters getting mixed up with themselves. One thing that many readers didn't understand the queens reaction to Thor. Well we got our answer and boy is it a jaw dropper.
Ending is great. I want to continue the story and find the happy ever after. My only complain is that I should have done the book individually because it would have made it easy to keep track of my progress.
I was hookt frm book one, after that, I ordered all up to date books. Can't read them fast enuff! The other books I was reading have been shelved for the interim. Keep up the great work Morgan and Thank you! ;)
