I've always bought more books than I could read. Kindle may have saved my marriage because with no grounding in reality, I'd leave on a four day vacation with six big books in a hundred pound carry-on that, without fail, my wife would have to tote for some part of the trip-remember those days.

When I was a kid, I thought the greatest superpower-the one I'd most want to have was to "know" a book by touching it. I imagined running up and down the aisles of a library soaking in every book I could touch.

It's a perfect superpower, because it's so powerful, yet it's also so flawed. Imagine a 10 year-old exposed to even one aisle of a library. And as I got older, I realized that not all books are created equal. Some are great in their own context. Others contain greatness and junk. Others were built to sell something-themselves, an idea or an agenda.

In the end, that superpower would have been my undoing. I would have died under the weight of it and been insufferable (ok, more insufferable). The efficiency of information flow isn't what I really needed, it was discernment to tell the difference.

I've written a book. I love it and hope you do, too. I've got two more planned. But more than selling these books, my prayer is that folks will read this and hear the truth of the Gospel speak through it.

My dream is that one day, we will all know and curate the Gospel Story as much as we know and love any of these great stories told here. These stories we write are That Story, and I can't wait to see how and when we all realize that. I'd love to get your thoughts on that and the book.

"A Rooster Once Crowed" by Bryant Cornett which I won from Goodreads Giveaways is a fascinating exploration of the power and faith that comes from God's love inherent in the Christian faith. He begins the examination of the love of God and his Son at the beginning, in Genesis, when together they formed heaven, earth, Adam and Eve; the lineage of man. I was challenged by his questions and thoughts on; how much do we know about heaven, what compelled Cain to kill Abel and even how long did it take Adam to take a bite from the apple. From Creation, through the prophets to the Cross we are given insight not only into God's great love for man, but the Fall because of sin and separation from God, and the debt paid by Jesus's sacrifice to bring mankind back into God's plan.

Using Biblical passages, commentary and personal anecdotes Bryant takes us on a journey that will either help us to accept or to affirm our faith, to choose to follow Christ to serve and love others or to negate it. It is a powerful book when coupled with Biblical scripture and opens us up to the truth of our belief and all it encompasses. I know I gained a new perspective on the Trinity, heaven's purpose for man, Jesus's thoughts before his death, and the future dominion of God's kingdom on earth. I liken this book to food for a hungry soul and highly recommend it.

“Belief is a noun. Believe is a verb.” For me this quote sums up Bryant Cornett’s commentary on the gospel of Jesus Christ, the title is taken from Peter’s denial after the arrest of Jesus, right before the Crucifixion. This book is like no other I have read: on my Kindle it is interactive; which means whatever I am reading is linked to a scripture reference that I can click on to go more in-depth. Having read and studied the Bible for years, this was informative, and fun, trying to guess what scripture he would quote—many times he would give me something new to think about. For any level of seeker this can be enlightening. The author wrote the book based on a Sunday school lesson that he gave and recorded. It can also be downloaded and heard with a link he gives in the book. At the beginning of each chapter, and before you start the lesson; he gives you gospel chapters to read. This is a superb tool for anyone learning about Jesus and The Bible. For new believers or seasoned followers it deepens your walk with God. Another one of my favorite quotes is: “But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being.” So many great thoughts are packed into this Spirit inspired gem that I’m giving it 5 stars.

BOOK REVIEW: A ROOSTER ONCE CROWED By Bryant Cornett

Review by Ryder Islington, Author of ULTIMATE JUSTICE A Trey Fontaine Mystery

When Iread the title of this book: A ROOSTER ONCE CROWED, my first thought was, “I thought the rooster twice crowed.” For those of us who are familiar with the New Testament, we know the answer to this. Of course it did. The question is, what happened after the rooster crowed the first time?

The Master told Peter that before the rooster crowed twice, Peter would deny the Master three times. So, after the rooster crowed that first time, what was Peter thinking? That first crow was a warning. Did Peter even hear it? Was he so afraid that he didn’t hear it? Or was he so afraid that he heard the warning, and still could not manage to do the right thing?

Well, Bryant Cornett has managed to write a great little book discussing those moments in between the crowing–those moments when we can choose to be followers of the Master.

I would recommend this book for everyone. Christians can be reminded of their mission. Unbelievers can begin to understand. It would be great for a Bible Study class, or for tween and teen Sunday School. At 200 pages, it is an easy read, though by no means insignificant. The author has done a great job at being brief but thorough, citing text, and using verses from the Old and New Testaments.

You can find A ROOSTER ONCE CROWED on Amazon.com and other online stores.

Bryant Cornett has recently released a great and thought-provoking new book on Jesus’ life, ‘A Rooster Once Crowed’. Its subtitle is ‘a commentary on the greatest story ever told’, based on a vision the author had one night when preparing a lesson for his Sunday School class. What choice do we make after hearing the rooster crow the first time, as Peter did on the night that Jesus was on trial, after being told by Jesus that before the rooster crowed twice, that he, Peter, would deny knowing Jesus twice? Do we choose to enter into God’s love and care for us? What is the cost of entering – or not entering? Do we have, or wish to acquire, a yearning for heaven?
Supported by textboxes of relevant scripture on each page, Mr. Cornett explains in detail the basic truths of the gospel in a way that blesses and challenges while inviting the reader to join the Dance. The Dance is the eternal dance that we will thrill in for all eternity in heaven with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is also the right view of the Dance and the skills we choose to acquire while we are alive on this earth. These include the (Dance) Step – Service, the Beat (of the Dance) – Love, and the Tune – Belief.
This is a book to read and re-read, as the highlighting, margin questions, and flags hanging from many pages of my copy attest to. It can be extremely useful for the new believer and the seasoned believer who is further along on their faith journey. It is also invaluable for those who have begun to question what they really believe either as a crisis based on personal experiences or determining if belief in God makes sense to the intellectual in our rapidly-changing world.
‘A Rooster Once Crowed’ will bless you. It will challenge you, teach you, share God’s incredible love for you, and whether or not you need it, give your faith a new injection of hope, and increase your yearning for your heavenly home. I highly recommend this book, as well as the author’s suggestion of reading through one of the four gospels in the New Testament concurrently.

“We live in those few moments between the first and the second crow of the rooster – between decision and indecision, between knowing and being known. But do you even care? Small; decisions made today establish our path for all time and yet we people with a piece of this and a taste of that we diet on wisdom from antiquity and gorge on culture that is next month’s joke. This story is an opportunity to gorge on scripture - from Genesis to Revelation – in context it is the gospel of Jesus Christ and an opportunity to see for yourself what it actually is. Rather than what we mold it to be and to finally choose whether or not to care.”

“Through small stories and a modern context, this book will help you understand and decide what you believe about the greatest story ever told.”

A Rooster Once Crowed is truly a fascinating read. It challenged me, in a good way, from the first chapter by asking me to examine how much I really do know about God, Jesus, Heaven, Creation, the Trinity, the Gospels, the Crucifixion…

Using Scripture references, commentary and personal stories, the author placed me on a journey to either accept and re-affirm my faith or to deny it all together by giving me insight into God’s love for Man (me), the Fall due to sin, and the price/debt Jesus paid, His sacrifice, to bring mankind (me) into God’s plan.

In the last chapter, we are given an Invitation to the final and greatest “Dance”. Will you accept or decline? It is hoped that we accept, and if we do… what do we do until the dance? And how do we prepare? That is the crux of it all.

This is a powerful book that, in conjunction with Scripture, brings forth the truths of my/our belief’s and all that that includes. This book truly is nourishment for the soul.

A Rooster Once Crowed surprised me. I'm not sure what I was expecting from this book, but the author has written an in-depth commentary rich with biblical history and scripture to support it. In the introduction the reader is asked to make a decision, to remain in the world of familiarity or to change course and run toward the realization of the truth. This decision will determine how one believes and live out the future. This is a journey in God's love, the Gospel of Jesus Christ from the Cross to Revelation.

Bryant Cornett uses scriptural examples and suggested readings throughout the Bible, from Creation, the Trinity, heaven, the Fall, the prophets, the gospels through Revelation. The reader is invited to enter the Great Dance which is developed throughout the chapters in this book. The author's own revelations are a key part of this journey toward heaven, and his story is creatively shared for the benefit of the unbeliever or a long-time Christian who hasn't felt passion in his spiritual life. It all begins with a choice.

This book is written with an intensity that is contagious. Mr. Cornett writes with energy and enthusiasm that virtually sings its way throughout his lessons regarding The Greatest Story Ever Told. His story is based on solid foundations through the use of practical verses and passages from the Bible, and his excitement about living for God is contagious! There is much to be gained from this book. I intend to use it for a greater in-depth study for my own benefit. I would be more inclined to use this like a devotional, with time each day to reflect on the lessons this book has to offer. I recommend reading this book. It's an education and a revelation.

A Rooster Once Crowed is a great book that really takes you from Genesis and the creation through the new church in Revelations. It is the point of decision where you take the bible stories from Sunday School and turn them into life transforming direction. Mr. Cornett offers some great insight as he breaks down things like the Trinity, opening my eyes to some things that I’ve just always “known” in church to truly understanding.

There are so many awesome points in this book. Mr. Cornett says, “When the fact that an all-powerful God of heaven and earth became a seed and was torn for you – when that becomes your Fundamental truth, then it is your absolute pleasure to obey.” (p. 121)

In speaking of the crucifixion, a powerful statement he makes reads, “Finally, you must bury the cross deep within your heart. Read and work through the Gospels and this sacrifice until it melts you. Imagine what it must have been like to stand in Jerusalem. How did the blood of Jesus, mixed with dirt and sweat, smell? How did it feel to stand by and see 400 pounds of wood and flesh drop nine inches into the groove that had been cut to hold it?” (p.120)

This book takes the believer into the deeper realm of understanding and not just common “feel good” church messages. “A rooster once crowed cannot be uncrowed. The first crow of the rooster if familiar. It is the moment you recognized something as true and stop and try to remember how you know it. The first crow of the rooster is the reminder that you’re late, but still have time to make it on time. It is the moment of opportunity.” (p.200)

I would absolutely recommend this book as not only a commentary but as an attitude adjuster. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sparkling the Light of Jesus (a review of A Rooster Once Crowed by Bryant Cornett)
The bright cover of A Rooster Once Crowed sets the stage for this wonderful book that brilliantly shines forth the light of Jesus. The explanations and interpretation of the Bible fit perfectly with my understanding. I have never found the whole so succinctly and thoroughly articulated in a single volume.
The Scriptures used throughout would make a great starting point to begin a scripture memory program. All the biblical support leading up to the ultimate question is in your hands with this book. Bryant Cornett is a fisher of people in the truest sense with this work. He leads them with his line of words and tone of voice to their Savior. And then he asks the ultimate question in a whimsical yet serious and irresistible manner. Will you accept the invitation of the Holy Spirit to receive Jesus? He uses unique and appropriate analogies to lead up to the point of decision.
This book is a refresher course for the believing Christian. It is an evangelism tool to be given along with a Bible for the seekers in our midst. They will get a clear message in easily digested doses from this book. What they may never have understood before will become clear after reading A Rooster Once Crowed.
I received this book at no cost from bookfun.org in exchange for my honest review. I recommend this book to all who desire to draw closer to the Lord.

A Rooster Once Crowed is a message that inspires, challenges, penetrates, moves, convicts, comforts, confirms, reassures, and enlightens. Cornett examines heart issues: love or lack thereof, compassion or indifference, selflessness or self-serving,sacrifice or self-concern. He addresses the heart of life's most crucial decision--belief in Jesus's sacrifice for our sins or unbelief. Only two choices: eternity in Heaven with God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit or life in Hell, apart from the Holy Ones. He frankly shares his own journey of confessing sins and repentance and provides practical steps to a deeper, more authentic and intentional relationship with God. This book is a meaningful study for someone who has not made a decision for Christ as well as for someone who has been a Christian for years. He raises many thought-provoking ideas and considerations like the explanation for Christ's agonizing struggle in Gethsemane. This book has the power to change you, if you allow the truths to penetrate. If offers encouragement to one who is lost or struggling, with effective measures to take. The whole work is permeated with pertinent scripture references to reinforce the points. Looking forward to reading again and often. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

Bryant Cornett patiently and gently unravels the doctrine of soteriology, ushering the reader through the history, the present, and the future of salvation, and how it is to be personally experienced. Though it is not a heavy treatise on a massive doctrine, it is full of grand nuggets of application and explanations that the youngest believer, the oldest believer or the non-believer can grasp.
Though Cornett is kind in his tone of voice, he does not shy away from the heavy and distasteful topics of sin, judgement and hell. Rather than leave the reader with a burden, Cornett lifts the veil to display the great cost and benefit of salvation through the death of Jesus.
Chapters 5, "The Prophets" and Chapter 6, "The Wait of the Gospel" seem to be a detour, a distraction to the rest of the book, and left me to ask, "Yeah, so?" I never quite grasped how the chapters lead to the direction the book seemed to be headed.
Cornett's publisher Carpenter's Son Publishing needs to do a better job of proofreading. Minot is not in South Dakota and the offspring of sheep are not calves.
As you read the book, apply the worthy lessons, appreciate the Savior's payment for your sin, and consider who it is you know who may benefit from the book.

I had the privilege of reading A Rooster Once Crowed by Bryant Cornett. Wow - it was packed full of Biblical truths from the first page. Not in a theological or out of reach type of way but one that helped me understand Scriptures I had read my whole life but still hadn’t grasped the true deeper meanings. Revelation was always a book of the Bible I have avoided and am getting ready to read through it in February during a Read through the New Testament in a year challenge through my church. He brought up many Revelation Scriptures in this book and helped open my eyes to things I hadn’t realized, things that got me excited for the challenge in February instead of fearing I would be lost.

This is definitely a book I will want to read and reread and reread just because there is so much meat. It’s not one to read casually or for a fun weekend escape. This is a book that will allow you to think about your beliefs, why you believe them, and what you are going to do about that. Great book and so glad I had the opportunity to read this book and be challenged, in a good way.

I received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review. I also posted it on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Deeper Shopping.

"A Roster Once Crowed: A Commentary on the Greatest Story Ever Told" is an amazingly well written and thoughtout book. I admit that I had to go through this book slowly, not because it was hard to read, but because it has a lot to think about! Some of the truths hit home for me and they might for you too!

Bryant Cornett uses a lot of scripture and will quickly have you reading many verses from your Bible, searching out truths for yourself. He discusses topics like Creation, the Trinity, heaven, the fall and LOVE. Cornett adds plenty of stories dealing with issues from current events in our world today. He shows us how we must each take responsibility for our choices, and not sit back and wait for others to act. "A Rooster Once Crowed" will encourage you to make a decision for Christ, and/or help you learn to love Him even more than you already do. It will also remind you of how very much you are loved by Him. I beleive this book has information for everyone, from unbeleivers to rock solid Christians!

Cockadoodle doo! Cockadoodle doo! COCKADOODLE DOO! Have you ever put yourself in Peter's place and imagined the shame he felt when he heard that awful crowing, not once, not twice, but three times, just as the Master had foretold? We face the same choices in our own lives. We can deny Christ or we can tell the world that we do in fact KNOW him. But do we know Him? really know Him intimately?
Bryant Cornett has written a wonderful story-like examination of the Christian life and he certainly caused me to rethink what I believe and how I live my faith. Do we just talk about it and go to warm the church pew on Sundays? or do we read our Bible daily and pray and listen for God's voice? I highly recommend this book to new believers, questioners, and long-time believers. This book would make a wonderful small group book study. 5 Stars *****

This is the first book I have read by Bryant Cornett and I was excited to know that he lives in Atlanta, Georgia, as I live in an Atlanta suburb.
The book starts with the story of Peter being told by Jesus that he would deny Him three times before the rooster crows. Taken from Mark 14:30-31 and 68-72.
This book made me realize that I (we) do live between the first and second crow of the rooster. Living between decision and indecision.
The book is a well written story of the gospel of Jesus; The Greatest Story Told and is packed with scripture from Genesis to Revelation. It gave me insight into some topics that are hard for me to understand. A great book for the Christian and people who have not yet received Christ as their Savior. This is a book to read and re-read again and again. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and did not want to put it down.

Through a misunderstanding about a Goodreads review, I was given a copy of this book - which I couldn't find in our local libraries. I very much appreciate that, and as I read the book, I found I also appreciated the author's sincere testimony of many points of the Christian Gospel. I like that he included, as part of reading and studying this book, a challenge to read and study one of the four Gospels in the New Testament. I took that challenge, and it enhanced A Rooster Once Crowed. Thanks to him for that! My personal religious beliefs did not always jibe with Mr. Cornett's, although in many ways they did, but I respect that he shared and explained so many of the Gospel tenets that are the foundation of being a practicing Christian. The purpose overall is to become a better person, more Christlike, and A Rooster Once Crowed is all about that.

This was an interesting approach to the story of God's love from Genesis through Revelation. The author had many different insights into the familiar stories and made me stop and think several times. Appropriate Scripture passages from different parts of the Old and New Testament are conveniently placed in the corresponding places in the text, and further readings are given at the end of each chapter.

The author's premise is that like Peter we must decide whether we accept
God's invitation to join in His plan for us as individuals and as the human race. "We live in those few moments between the first and the second crow of the rooster: between decision and indecision, between knowing and being known. But do you even care?"

A Rooster Once Crowed: A commentary on the Greatest Story Ever Told.
I was blessed to win this book through good-reads giveaway.
I can truly not say enough good about this book. I thought I knew quite a bit about the history and how life was for individuals in those times. I don't. I learned so much about how verses were meant due to culture and how things were thought of in those times. Also having more of a grasp of the history really helped me understand the bible in ways I never have before. I recommend this to anyone. Rather you are new to the bible, curious, or think you know the bible pretty well. It is a pleasure and gets you more excited about living a christian life, learning more about the bible, and going to heaven one day!!!!!

A Rooster Once Crowed a commentary on the greatest story ever told by Bryant Cornett
I found this book to be engaging, well thought out and researched thoroughly. The author Bryant Cornett clarifies and explains scripture in a modern day way that brings story of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit into real life understanding. He goes from Genesis to Revelations breaking down and explaining scripture using small stories. I give this book 4 stars and would recommend it to others. He even provides access to a 30 minute video teaching on the concept of the book.
I want to thank the author Bryant Cornett, the publisher and The Book Club Network for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review. I am grateful from your generosity.

The "Rooster Once Crowed" is referring to Jesus telling Peter that before the rooster crows twice, that Peter will deny him three times. I can't really describe what the books about because it didn't seem like it had a real focus, but that could just have been my poor reading of it. I read through this book pretty fast and so I may have missed out on some of it. It's not a deep book on theology and in fact I'm sure that the author and I would disagree on a few items. That being said, I enjoyed the book and plan to reread it in the future and spend some more time with it.

I read the Kindle version (which I downloaded for free) and it was real easy to go back and forth between the footnotes in the back and the chapters. So for a free book on the "greatest story ever told" - not bad.

I really appreciate Bryant's passion and heart in this book! Bryant is a gifted writer and his in depth historical research benefits the reader. This is a necessary exhortation for today's Church. I disagreed with Bryant's assessment on page 86 that it doesn't matter if people can lose their faith. The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints is important because if God gives faith then leaves it to man to keep his faith then man can save himself (Semi Pelagianism). I'm a Calvinist so I took note of that section but I am thankful to have read this and am encouraged by Bryant's desire to see the lost come to faith!!

A Rooster once crowed
By Bryant Cornett
An unusual title with a profound story. Bryant Cornett is an expert story teller. A detailed researcher, and a phenomenal teacher. I am impressed with the way Bryant applies the historical background of the word of God to fit so naturally into our present time. This book served as a bible study for me as I reviewed its content. Each thought is backed up with scripture and the contents are accurately précis. Bookfun.org placed this book in my hands to review freely, my life has been enriched for having such a teacher as this author dissect some complex verses with such clarity.

I read the first chapter 3 times...so powerful when I realized I am the wayward daughter. This book grabs you, places you in the gospel story...but doesn't stop there. The author then walks you through a detailed commentary on the good news - from "the beginning" through eternity. Cornett energetically & unapologetically presents the gospel of Jesus Christ. A great read both for anyone wanting to think deeply about God for the first time, as well as for equipping disciples to take their own relationship with God more seriously.

Whether you are hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time or have been a believer all of your life, Bryant Cornett encourages, prods, and challenges you to consider the greatest (love) story ever told like you have never done so before. He is a brilliant writer and I was enthralled from the very first chapter. I encourage you (I even dare you) to read it, and give it away to someone that you know needs to hear the Gospel in a way that is personal and inviting. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

I really enjoyed the book. It gave me some new and interesting insights into some important topics that are often difficult to wrap my mind around, such as Creation, the Trinity, Heaven, the sufficiency of the Cross. Chapter 7 - Step this Way - really hit home with me. The commentary about the two Americas struck a cord and the call to repent and humble ourselves (bring ourselves low) before The Lord before we can be lifted up was a powerful message. Highly recommend this book.

I received this through First Reads.

It was a beautiful story. Of course it doesn't go much beyond the same bible stories that I grew up with and have loved my whole life, but I don't know... Perhaps it is the reverent tone of the book or the way the stories were discussed and presented, but I just... I just really enjoyed reading it. I actually shared it with a lady at my church after I finished it, and it has been passed around ever since. It's been a big hit with all.

A Rooster Once Crowed
By: Bryant Cornett

The title sounded interesting not sure what it was going to be about. Glad I got it. Starts off talking about how Peter denied Christ 3 times. Then I knew where the book was going. Talks about the greatest story ever told. I know there are people out there who don’t believe in the bible, but Bryant did a great job with scripture to show us the truth. I really enjoyed the book and all the scripture to back up what he is saying.

A Rooster Once Crowed gets its name from the bible story of Peter and the rooster crowing 3 times. This book really brought home to me how often I am in the place of the rooster crowing once. It is a really good book with lots and lots of scripture references to back up what the author is saying. If you are wanting to get closer to God and have a clearer understanding of your faith, read this book!

THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD

This is one of the best explanations of what Christianity is all about as presented to a person in this day and age. The author has given us a very persuasive argument for inviting Christ to be the Lord of our lives. Please read this book, I beg of you.

From what I can see at the moment, the story is absolutely astonishing. I highly recommend it to any avid reader and I can't wait to share it with my friends if I win it. Keep the good books coming, Cornett!
