Morgin is trapped in the Kingdom of Dreams, the realm of the Unnamed King. He knows he must somehow get back to the Mortal Plane to save France and Rhianne, and he's frustrated that he doesn't know the way. He decides to find the Unnamed King, for surely His Majesty could show him the way, and maybe even tell him his true name.
Rhianne is held captive in Durin by Valso, and while he treats her well, he's trying to seduce her, to make her a slave to his whims with powerful compulsion spells. When she sleeps she finds herself in the Kingdom of Dreams, seeing Morgin through Rhiannead's eyes, and they're strongly attracted to one another.
Valso can sense that the sword is no longer on the Mortal Plane, so he concludes it must be in the Kingdom of Dreams. He calls upon ancient enemies from a far distant past, and sends them to the Kingdom of Dreams to assault the realm of the Unnamed King. In her dreams Rhianne warns Morgin, and they both must help defend Sabian, the castle, and seat of power, of the Unnamed King.
Back on the Mortal Plane the Lesser Clans are on the verge of all-out war, which will only weaken them, and leave them fodder for attack by Valso and the Greater Clans. Is Olivia really that foolish?
Will Morgin find his true name, for without it he cannot defeat the Dark God, and all the Mortal Plane will suffer for eternity?
Jim is a full-time SF&F writer, scientist and laser geek (Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, specialty laser physics), and former running-dog-lackey for the bourgeois capitalist establishment. He's been writing for over 30 years, with 15 published books. His first success came through self-publishing when his books went word-of-mouth viral, and sold enough that he was able to quit his day-job, start working for himself and write full time--his new boss is a real jerk. That led to contracts with traditional publishers like Open Road Media and Harper Collins Voyager, and his books are now a mix of traditional and self-published.
The four novels in his new hard science fiction series, The Blacksword Regiment, are scheduled for release in July 2020. Right now he’s fleshing out ideas for the next book in The Dead Among Us, he’s writing another episode in The Treasons Cycle, and he’s working on a new fantasy series The Deck of Chaos.
Jim was born in Seattle, but he's lived most of his life in California, though he did live on the east coast and in Europe for a while. He now resides in Arizona with his wife Karen and three little beings who claim to be cats: Tilda, Julia and Natasha. But Jim is certain they're really extra-terrestrial aliens in disguise.
Quite the enjoyable series, this is the last book of the series and it gives a nice closure to the major issue, there is still some plot lines not properly explored but who lack grave consequences so far. I still can't figuure out why were the 'white faces' cursed, beside been a simple plot point.
The Gods Within Series captured my attention with book one. I loved the character of Rat and have enjoyed watching him grown into a man, and discover his true identity.
I think this is my favorite book of the series, although I really loved book one. In this book, The Name of the Sword, the reader rides along as the main character attempts to learn his true name.
I found the story was fast moving. The characters kept my interest. It was definitely a page turner. I stayed up late reading and hated to put it down.
I don't often re-read books, but now that I have finished the series, I would lGike to go back and re-read them, because now that I have the answers, it will give me a new perspective.
Since the whole series was not published when I started reading these, it made it a little difficult to maintain the flow and keep characters straight. My wife and I both read them as they became available and we both liked the series. I like the way all of the loose ends were finally tied up and it made for an exciting climax to the series.
Terrific series, with good characters & interesting story plots. Could use a bit of editing to clean up some typos & other minor mistakes, but overall, glad I read this series to conclusion.
What can I say about this? Speachless? No not that, but rather, there's no word that could describe what I felt about the ending, the whole book, the whole series. But I'll settle with: I SO LOVE IT!!!
