With a runaway lion loose in the neighborhood, Derrick, Samantha, and Michael feel scared. Nanny Piggins feels like a slice of cake. And Boris feels like that lion looks strangely familiar...
But if there was ever a pig who could tame both lion and lion tamer, it's Nanny Piggins! She also revolutionizes the sport of ski jumping, introduces hot-pink leotards to the local Neighborhood Watch, and demonstrates trapeze skills on a moving bus -- all while thwarting Mr. Green's attempt to send the children to Nicaragua.
R. A. Spratt's third book in the delightfully madcap Nanny Piggins series is filled with more high-flying adventures, more outrageous characters, and more chocolate cake than ever before!
I am a such a super fan. The author reading it just makes it that much better. Super fun. When it was over - all four of us were sad. And then we started book 1 over because we were driving and we could.
Another exciting escapade that my son and I thoroughly enjoyed. We cannot get enough of Nanny Piggins. She’s just wonderful. My son will often stop me when I’m trying to tell him something and say, “Say it like Nanny Piggins would.” 😂
Nanny Piggins reminds me of a wacky, chocolate-addicted Mary Poppins. In this, the third title in the series, she works hard to keep her three charges entertained and protected. It's a good thing since Mr. Green, the father of Derrick, Samantha, and Michael really isn't interested in them, and if truth be told, he'd prefer that they were out of sight in some boarding school somewhere. But Nanny Piggins is there to run interference and make sure the youngsters are safe--even from their father's clutches. Since each chapter features some sort of adventure, ranging from a school bake sale to a skiing competition as well as a trip to the ballet and even a runaway lion, this book is perfect for a read aloud. Each chapter comes to a satisfying conclusion on its own, and while the tension builds toward the book's conclusion, each chapte can be savored for its own merits. It's hard to resist a pig who loves sweets, especially chocolate, so much, especially when she is loyal, brave, and fashion-forward. It's hard to imagine anything this heroic animal hasn't done.
My kids and I savor each chapter in the Nanny Piggins books! We finally finished the third installment, and we were never short on giggles. Our favorite chapter had to be when Nanny Piggins joins the Olympic ski team! She is one hilarious, chocolate cake-loving Nannny.
This amazing book features lots of different adventures as you read further into the book. I strongly recommend this series to 8-12 year olds. People who like cake, pigs or adventure would enjoy this too. Nanny Piggins (Main character) loves baking and eating cake. The highlight of the book was the part where a lion was reported to be seen at a bakery. Throughout the chapters, Nanny Piggins (Sarah Piggins) and the children - Derrick, Samantha and Michael come across a loose lion. This particular lion is from the circus that Nanny Piggins used to work for. What do you think will happen next? Will they persuade the lion to go back to the circus?
I picked this up at recommendation of reviews to read aloud to my 8 and 10 year old. We cringed reading of the hateful, hurtful father character that was supposed to be comedic and ultimately, they asked to stop reading it. The children and Main character, in turn, are disrespectful and deceptive to the father all for the sake of cheap laughs and potty humor. Don’t waste your time reading this garbage to your children. Opt for Mary Poppins or the Adventures of Dr Doolittle for whimsical fun summer read aloud with beautiful writing and admirable characters.
Our family’s go to audio book in the car with Chris. We found out she was doing an audio version of this book last summer and boy was it worth the wait. Crazy chocolate pig stories that will keep the kids in anting more and the parents laughing. The B&B still makes me laugh and the Shakespeare one as well!
Side note: she has a podcast of R.A Sprat read bedtime stories for more audio content!
These books are essence of a read aloud that has everyone wanting know how she is going to get out of each predicament. My favorite one this time was being in charge of a book stall at the school fair and needing to make $50,000. We just couldn’t quite predict what she would do!
This children's book was on my granddaughter's summer reading list. I am sorry that the library did not have the copy until after she returned to school but it makes sense that the book was finally available because the kids were now busy with their school work. Be that as it may, I read it and enjoyed it thoroughly and believe that my granddaughter will also when she has a chance to read it. A nanny who is a PIG- yes, that is correct. And an adopted brother, Boris, who is a ten foot bear! The three children are 11, 9 and 7.... Perfect ages for these stories. Delightful imagination and all kids (and adults) should love it.
There's plenty to criticize in this Nanny Piggins book (really? Everything always works out for Nanny Piggins? Really? She never gets come uppance for her outrageousness? Really? Mr Green so overtly wants to get rid of his kids and they arent psychological messes as a result?) but you're not going to hear it from me. I love Nanny Piggins and I love the totally over the top fun of it all. Now I need to go eat some cake for breakfast.
Ahh Nanny Piggins!! Haha. I love how easy these books are to pick up and read :) The style hasn't changed since the first book which is just fantastic.
You can never quite guess what trouble *ahem* I mean excitement she is going to get into next.
Can I please have Nanny Piggins come to my mothers school to help raise school funds of over 100k!!
Love nanny piggins so... She makes me laugh! She has the snarky spunk of Mary Poppins and the absent minded, disaster prone but fabulous cullinary ways of Amelia Bedelia. Add in that she was a former circus star and has a 10 foot tall bear as a twin brother, and you have some wonderfully addictive and fun stories on your hands. Highly recommended.
The chapters are way too long! I read this out loud to my children and usually we would read a chapter a night of a book, but couldn't with this. We did enjoy it, but it was quite predictable.
