The Necromancer's Scroll

Rate this book
When Kaysie and Quynn are propelled to another world by a mysterious scroll, neither knows quite what to expect. But the area seems strangely familiar to Quynn Dornoch, a reader of all things medieval and fantastical. While Kaysie Haggerty tries to adjust to her new surroundings, adventure and intrigue catches up with them all. A man new to adventuring and a family of half elves introduce the two teens to their world. While Quynn slowly remembers, they meet the Moonshades, half elven siblings promised by their parents through deceit and magic to the necromancer, Roustin Blackfyre, only to be betrayed in the end. The Moonshade’s mysterious youngest sister gets Roustin to teach her the Arts through a deceit and magic all her own, pulling Kaysie and Quynn into an adventure full of subterfuge, danger, and, of course, magic, in order to save her parents from whatever fate Roustin has subjected them.

I grew up (in age only) in rural North Carolina and central Ohio, so people watching has been great. Dungeons and Dragons (second ed!) and trying to be a Dungeon Master with a future lawyer, brilliant tech guys, and someone who read the books for fun taught me how to weave a good story and make any holes air tight. I've been in a writers' group since 2002. They have taught me invaluable lessons in critiquing and editing and reading outside my genre. I'm in a science fiction/fantasy writers' group with two other wonderful writers, who challenge what I've submitted, and I love them for it.

Okay, I'm a little biased! I wrote this fantasy novel in response to another novel I read that had a modern teenager have no adjustment issues at all with suddenly being transported to a medieval-based world. The Necromancer's Scroll is about two modern 15-year-old girls who discovered an ancient scroll. They are magically transported to my medieval-based world, to the village of Keldon's Hill in the foothills of the Barkante Mountains. Kaysie and Quynn meet the helpful Rilee, who shows them aroudn this new world, and the myserious Mooonshade family, half-elves enslaved under the necromancer, Roustin.
