Fervent Fable #1

Red As A Rose

Rate this book
In this sexy retelling of Red Riding Hood, danger abounds. Can a seductive witch save the big bad wolf she finds in her grandmother's bed? Or will she fall prey not only to the woodsmen that hunt him, but the lure of her own powers?

Tobias, mortally wounded from a silver tipped arrow, seeks healing from the notorious hedge witch, Scarlet Hood. What he doesn't expect is to find Scarlet has passed away. Her granddaughter, Rose, is everything a big bad wolf could want. With woodsmen hot on his trail, Tobias must decide whether to accept his new life, or die all over again.

Rose didn't want to take up the red hood her grandmother left her, nor any of the responsibilities that came with it. Wielding a power that loves the dead more than the living, she finds it hard to accept the idea of becoming a healer. When she finds a werewolf in her grandma's bed, she has to choose between what is right, and what feels right but is so very wrong.

When D. F. Krieger was banned from writing contests at her school, she immediately set it in her head that she would become a professional writer. Since then, she has thrown away her plans of world domination through books, but she still enjoys writing. Her tastes run from classy urban witches to dragons, space pirates to shape shifters. By the time she pens her final book with a hand ravaged by age, she hopes to introduce her readers to many alternate worlds, lines of thinking, and captivating characters.

You can find D. F. on the East Coast, hiding away from the real world with a gleam in her eye and a plot in her head. She resides with her husband, kids, and pets; who all kindly put up with her random bouts of laughter (over things she can't explain) and journal collecting fetish.

I enjoyed this take on an infamous tale. Witchcraft, necromancy, shifters, and a bit of romance woven together in an enticing flirt. The writing is tight, the characters well-developed, with just enough backdrop to make you crave a spooky walk in the woods.

Red as a Rose by DF Krieger
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

Red as a Rose is not your typical tale of Red Riding Hood, this short story is sexy and full of spice. Tobias and his family are attacked by the huntsmen and he barely escapes with his life. He is wounded and barely makes it to the witch’s house for help but things aren’t as he remembered.

Rose has just buried her grandmother and now she is expected to take over for her. Rose’s magic loves the dead and now she is expected to be a healer. When she finds the man in her grandmother’s bed, she can’t resist just one kiss. She never expected things to turn out like they did.

The two of them have amazing chemistry. I loved how even though he was under her power, he still had a mind of his own where she is concerned. Both are strong in their own right and each has their own magic, it makes them a good pair. The two of them will be good for each other.

The ending was great and not what I expected. They were creative in their defeat of the huntsmen and what was left of Tobias family was saved. I also liked the fact that although she wields power over him, she gave him the choice of life or death.

Although this is a short story, it is full of action and extremely sexy. It’s not the story you remember from your childhood but it’s definitely worth the read. I give Red as a Rose 4 Flaming Hearts.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Tobias and Rose are tantalizing, sexy, strong, and caring being. In this tale of witch meets wolf shifter, sparks literally ignite. The story moved, and kept my interest throughout, especially during the heat and spice. Go for it. Absolutely worth the read.

Red Riding Hood used to be one of my fave fairy tales as a child. Thanks to Ms. Krieger’s unique, tantalizing take, it’s now become one of my favorite “adult” fairy tales as well!

The chemistry between Red and Tobias was stunning, their interaction crisp, sharp and passionate. I’m always attracted to books where the leading lady is a bit more...well...more, I guess, if that makes sense. Red busts out of the general paradigm of traditional heroines and sets us spinning with her words and actions. Tobias, smexy mon! Clever too. The dialogue was swift, intelligent and flowed effortlessly.

I loved the ending and hope that Ms. Krieger will continue on into this delightful fairy tale landscape again. An enjoyable and sensual read.

I may be an adult, but I still enjoy fairy tales--naughty or nice. D.F. Krieger's Red As A Rose is a short and naughty take on Red Riding Hood.

In this version, Red, known here as Rose, is not a child who needs saving. Oh no, she's a seductive witch with dark powers. And the big bad wolf? A sexy shifter in need of Rose's help.

I love stories where the heroine isn't in need of saving. While Rose has doubts and insecurities, she doesn't let them stop her.

Red As A Rose is fun, sexy, and a new take on a familiar tale. This is not the story you grew up with. It's a short and fun way to spend a little time. Highly recommended for fairy tale lovers! My only complaint is that it was too short!!

Scarlet's just returning from burying her grandmother, answering the call of the goddess of the forest to race home where she finds freshly dead werewolf Tobias, who died trying to protect his village from hunters who delight in killing the shifter people. When she brings him back, heeding the instructions of the goddess, she finds her new creation isn't nearly so biddable as most of the dead she brings back.

More please!

Awesome, in depth story! I'm praying the author gives us more on Rose and her werewolf soon, as I'd love to see what further adventures await the potential couple!
My only complaint, it had to end. *pout*

a good story with interesting world building that i would like to see expanded on in future stories, if there any. I have a few bugs with the story but nothing that takes away from the story.
