I need them both. But I can only choose one.

Riley Hammond.

Despite his chiseled jaw and military uniform, he was caring and thoughtful. He supported me and made me feel beautiful again. I fell instantly.

Riley was everything I needed to heal. He made me feel safe and loved, and yet I couldn’t deny the pull I felt toward another...

Cole Michaels.

An alpha rock god, he was sex on legs and took pride in having women swoon over him as he strutted around the stage. I knew he was no good—just ask every girl he’s been with. We could never be more than friends…

At least that’s what I told myself.

His cocky attitude pushed my buttons and challenged everything I thought I knew. But beneath the bravado, I saw glimpses of a man who was as broken as me.

Polar opposites, both men have gotten under my skin.
Which one do I choose?

OMIGAH!!

description

Before I started reading Songbird I should have remembered to expect a love triangle. Normally in these situations I get to a point where I’m cheering for one team but in this book I was actually cheering for both. How strange.

description

In Songbird, we meet Tara, a woman who’s confidence and self-worth has been shattered due to an abusive relationship that she was in. She begins this journey of rediscovering herself and her passion for music and meets two very special yet different men along the way!: Riley and Cole.

So Riley: Riley’s one of those guys you dream about and who girls rage wars over.

Tara meets Riley from her bestie Kelli’s boyfriend, Cooper and the two begin a serious and long distance relationship.

Riley's the definition of sweet, charming, and also makes Tara feel cherished for once in her life. The only downside to him is that he (like Cooper)is in the military special forces. AND , here's the kicker: he's about to be deployed. *dramtic music* Dun, dun, dun!

description

And then there’s Cole: Cole, is like the bad boy that girls go for but get their hearts broken because he’s unattainable.

However of course, since this is a story, the moment he meets Tara he relentlessly pursues her much to Tara’s dilemma. Ever loyal to Riley, Tara does not give into temptation even though she feels this undeniable attraction to Cole and a mutual love (she's a pianist) for music.

description

So which man should Tara choose? Gah, I don’t even know myself!! Why can’t there be a threeway relationship??!! What’s so wrong in that?! "Sharing is caring"/"The more the merrier" I say!! Lol.

But, as much as I want that, I don’t see this type of book being like those published under Siren Publishing or Ellora’s Cave where ménage and whatnot is accepted. Bummer!! *pouts*

I’ve never been so conflicted in a book before where my emotions were literally felt as if they were on a never ending roller coaster of ups and downs! I did have those moments where I wanted to clock Tara upside her head and to tell her to cut off feelings for one guy and make a decision; BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I also couldn’t help but feel for her in this confusing and tumultuous dilemma.

description

Perhaps while Riley is gone absence will make the heart grow fonder? OR, will temptation win out and will Tara break her loyalty to Cole?

Holy Jesus, I NEED BOOK TWO!!!

*SONGBIRD was gifted to me by Lisa Edward in excahnge for an honest review. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! I SO HEART YOU RIGHT NOW!!!*

DNF at 60%.

Very annoying heroine, a love triangle and a very inconsistent and confusing plot. I tried really hard but I just couldn't finish this book, at 60% I still didn't feel any connection to the story and my annoyance was growing by the minute, I just couldn't read any more... : (

Songbird held on tight, and didn’t let go. 5+++++

What can I say? Songbird is a book that will stay with me for a long, long time.

For a debut, Lisa Edward blew my mind. Her writing is real, and it is raw. I felt connected to the characters because her enchanting storytelling sucks you in and doesn’t let go.

I cried, I laughed, I screamed, I sighed and I swooned... Yes, fair to say, I was an emotional mess, because this story is one we all can relate to. I sympathized and understood each character, especially the heroine, who I loved from the minute she was introduced with her sassy nature.

Watch out for this up and rising talent because Lisa Edward is here to stay!

Songbird is easily in my top 5 reads of 2013!

Songbird by Lisa Edwards
4 stars!!

I love reading books from new authors and this book was recommended to me by a friend and she said “you have to read this” so I did…and I couldn’t put it down…and now I am torn…I love two men…I should only love one of them…I don’t like triangles or squares…but I love Riley and I love Cole…if I find it a hard choice…imagine how Tara feels!!

Tara starts this book in an abusive relationship…not physically as such…but mentally. Stephen is very OCD, everything has its place, including Tara. His life is like a series of pockets and if you put something in the wrong pocket all hell breaks loose. He undermines her constantly, demeans her constantly, over the 2 years they are together he totally changes her as a person and turns her into some Stepford Wife that is a good asset in the board room. Eventually Tara does see sense and gets out whilst Stephen is away on business and Tara moves in with her best friend Kelli.

“You were trying to share an opinion when you don’t have one. You looked like an ignorant idiot…you embarrassed me in front of my associates…”
“At least Genevieve knows how to sit there quietly and just look pretty. There’s no hope of you looking pretty though, is there.”
“You’re lucky I put up with you, no one else would give you a second glance.”

Her confidence and self-worth were decimated. It was up to Kelli to bring Tara back. Kelli takes Tara to her hairdresser for a makeover and Jason firmly becomes Tara’s new gay BF. Kelli and Tara then decide to join a gym and it is here they meet “Mr Hotbod.” Kelli is not interested but does window shop…she has her long term boyfriend Cooper, he is in the forces and is based in Sydney, but Tara has no partner and drools when she does her window shopping…he is hot and sexy and he knows it…there is an instant connection and attraction but Tara does not act on it…in fact she runs away and tries to stay away from him as much as possible, she is actually terrified, he is a player and she knows that she will only get hurt.

“Not for me, for Tara. She needs to get laid and she thought Mr Hotbod was a prime candidate.”

On a visit home, Cooper brings his best friend with him…meet the Irish charmer that is Riley, he too is in the forces, he is gorgeous, sexy, fit and also quite quiet. He has just recovered from coming out of a long-term relationship and finally feels that he is able to date again. They are instantly attracted to each other…what will happen? Riley is totally and utterly adorable…I love him to bits!

“Whether you’re lying here in my arms, or we’re a thousand miles apart, I will always love you. You will always be with me.”

As Riley is in the forces, Tara embarks on a long distance relationship, the same as Kelli has with Cooper. It is a struggle, she misses him so she tries to fill her time up with other stuff to keep her mind occupied. She ends up going to Jason’s friends bar called “Songbirds,” Tara is an accomplished musician and pianist and it does not take long before Tara has her own regular guest spot as a performer. Tara also gets one of her friends bands a regular gig at Songbirds, the lead singer turns out to be none other than “Mr Hotbod” a.k.a. Cole.

“Cole ticked every box in what I would ever want from a boyfriend, except for one thing. He was caring, thoughtful and attentive. He was funny and intelligent; he just couldn’t keep it in his pants.”

So that is the background, a lot happens, there are a lot of men vying for Tara’s affections, she must have some potent pheromones!! But as I said in the intro, I love two of these guys. It is not your typical love triangle, or square as the case maybe…Tara makes her choice, but I did want to bash her sometimes, she does have feelings for two of them, but if you love someone, you shouldn’t feel that way about somebody else and it was this that was quite conflicting. I could understand though, I am just as conflicted…I loved Riley and then I fell in love with “the real” Cole. It is rare that you fall for two contenders, that is the beauty of Lisa Edwards’ story telling, because you cannot help but love them both.

Whilst I absolutely adore Riley and I really want them to get their HEA, I do feel that there is something between Tara and Cole and I cannot believe I am saying this, but I really want to see these waters tested!! OMG!! Not only do Cole and Tara seem to connect on a physical and emotional level, but their mutual love of music only heightens this passion. I do however, not want Riley to be hurt in any way shape or form if there is some toe dipping (I do not want much do I? lol) I just can’t see how it could be done…maybe ménage but I don’t see that being Lisa’s style lol! That is the trouble with this book, it leaves you torn and conflicted, your emotions all over the place, I have never been in this position before and that is kudos to Lisa Edwards, I am really firmly on the fence and I cannot wait to see where this is going to go. I need book 2 NOW!

“Smile for me. When I turn around to wave goodbye for the final time, I want your beautiful smile to be the last thing I see.”

ARC provided by the author for an honest review.

Songbird takes us through Tara's story. At the beginning of this book, Tara is in an abusive relationship. Stephen has stripped her of her confidence and she has become a shell of who she used to be. She finally decides to leave him and her world is suddenly full of possibilities.

Her friend Kelli helps her get back on her feet and find her confidence again.

And then it just seems like guys are popping out of the woodwork!

We have Jason, her gay hairstylist - new best friend.

Marcus, owner of Songbirds (a karaoke bar) - Jason's long time crush.

Riley - Kelli's boyfriend's best friend, member of the special forces, hot yummy military man.

And Cooper - singer of a local band. Arrogant, gorgeous man-whore.

Things that I liked about the story:
- Great supporting characters. Loved Jason! I want a gay best friend.
- Cole, Riley and Marcus. Um, where are the gorgeous guys all jumping up and down to be my friend??? Where can I find some of these guys?
- Nice chemistry.

Things I did not like about the story:
- I was not feeling Tara. I really couldn't connect with her. I don't want to spoil which one of these guys is her prince. But I must say the decision was not clear cut for me. How can you get butterflies and want to be close to one man when you're sleeping with another?

As we learn more about Tara it turns out she comes from a wealthy family and her parents were more concerned about appearances than anything else. While I thought at the beginning of the story that money was tight, it seems Tara just doesn't want to touch the money that represents an unhappy childhood. Ooookay. I get that (not coming from money myself), but why did she struggle with getting an apartment and getting back on her feet in the beginning of the story if she had a trust fund? Surely this qualifies as a really good reason to tap into your stock pile of cash.

- Insta love. I can't relate to insta love. Did not feel it in this story.

- This story felt very looooong to me. In a good story there is a build up, a climax and a resolution. In this book the build up was lengthy and there were descriptions of things that could have been left out. And a lot of sentences started with "I". I did this, I felt that, I want this, I like that, I, I, I. Then I kept trying to guess what the climax was going to be. First I thought there would be a blowout with shithead Stephen. Then I thought it was going to be a love triangle with bachelor number one and number two. But it just kept going on to developing this relationship. We get a mini-climax and the resolution felt very rushed. Then of course, the book ends by setting the stage for a sequel.

I ended up feeling like she kind of settled for second best and I wished her feelings for bachelor number two were explored.

I look forward to seeing how this author improves in the next book.

First I would like to give a HUGE Thank You to Lisa Edwards for allowing me to read her book. Life was a little hectic and I read it but never did the review as you can see on my currently reading list it is HUGE because I have read so many books and have not posted the reviews yet. So I want to personally say I am so sorry for not posting this review sooner.

To say that this book is EXCELLENT and a must read is an understatement. Anyone who has had a loved one go into the army or any branch of the army or navy will love this book because the main character Tara is so effing faithful to her special forces man I love it!

Tara our main character is 24 years old and she loves music. The girl can sing like no ones business but she gives it all up to be with a guy Stephen she thinks she loves. Stephens nothing more than a big old meany being rude and abusing Tara all the time. Soon Tara has had enough and she gets the courage to leave him. That is where the story gets so good and I mean I laughed, I cried my eyes out, and I screamed at my kindle because the emotional roller coaster I went through was one hell of a ride!

Tara meets two gorgeous guys that sweep her off her feet but she meets Riley Hammond first and he is a Corporal in the Australian Special forces. Riley is a great guy and he loves Tara so much. Riley builds Tara up and helps her with everything as much as he can because he is away a lot because of the military. But that is okay because Tara has her best friends and her singing and another HOT guy to help her get herself back on track and stay there.

See Tara also has a hot singer in a popular indie band named Cole. He is gorgeous, smart and witty and they share the same love of music. Cole is patient and kind to Tara and they share so much that at first I was like hell she should start dating him but her heart is with Riley and I loved both guys that my heart was literally split in two because I could not choose which guy I loved more and I love when a story does that to me because I am left wondering what is going to happen and in this case I need books two like yesterday.

Book two is coming out soon and the name of it is Songbird Caged.... What do you guys think about the name???????? I love it!

it is not often you pick up a book and instantly fall in love....Sometimes they start off slow and you grow to love them, other times they start off with a bang and fizzle shortly after......
Songbird by Lisa Edwards was instant perfection!!!!!

This book was just WOW!!!!!!! CAPTIVATING, ROMANTIC, PROFOUND.....a truly magnificent story about finding oneself after being lost. This book touched me and left me breathless and wanting more. The book starts off with Tara leaving an abusive relationship and trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. It was passionate and awe-inspiring to watch Tara break out of the cage she was placed in. The journey to find her way back brought tears to my eyes. I felt an instant connection to Tara. I loved her! I found her endearing! she was cute and funny and she is everything I want a main character to be! She was easy to relate to, her problems were REAL!
Enter SWOON worthy Riley, oh and don't forget drop dead gorgeous Cole....aka HOT BOD.
As a romantic relationship begins with Riley a beautiful friendship grows with Cole both men helping Tara rebuild her life, find her confidence and once again become the women she was meant to be.

I loved EVERY minute!!! I loved watching Tara find herself, I loved watching her fall in love, I loved the banter, I loved the romance, I LOVED EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

RATING: 5 sweet, romantic and inspiring stars!!

I'll be honest-I'm a cover whore!
The beautiful cover of Songbird drew me in and gave me a perfect visual of Tara.
My heart hurt for Tara, she had lost herself in an abusive relationship and I was never more happy than when she plucked up the courage to leave. It's always hard to start over, uncertain of what's to come but when you have awesome friends and men falling at your feet then life suddenly becomes a whole lots easier!

"I swear on a stack of supernatural and soppy romance novels that I will get my life back together, follow my passion again and never look back"

Tara rediscovers her love of music. Playing the piano and singing at the local club in the evenings and generally getting herself back on her feet. She is clearly naturally beautiful, but hasn't got a clue since the rat bastard of an ex boyfriend was a total douche and put her down at every opportunity.
For the main part, the story focuses on Tara and Riley. Riley is a total dream boat, perfect in every way, and build up Tara's self esteem, turning her into a little vixen. The only problem is, he's not around much due to being in the military special forces. It proved how hard on the heart, long distance love affairs can be. I was so frustrated for these guys.

"Now I Know. I am his. Not just my body. All of me. I have always been his. I will always be his"

Then there's Cole, arrogant, cocky and sexy as hell. He's a straightforward talking kinda guy. If he thinks it , he says it. What got to me most is when we saw the soft man beneath the hard exterior. Tara bats off his continual advances, she's a loyal girl. But, while I do not advocate cheating in any way, I wanted something to happen, they had the chemistry, the 'feels'.
Every which way that girl turned, there was a guy waiting in the wings. Trying to protect her. To keep her safe. She's a lucky, lucky girl.

I loved the rest of the gang too. Her best friend Kelli, her boyfriend Cooper, who was one of the funniest guys in the book. I loved his Nicknames for everyone and his quick witted comments.
The last half of the book really kicked things up a notch for me. The excitement and drama kept me turning the pages and I can't wait to find out where their relationship takes them in the next book.
Yes, there is another book, but, you are not left with a huge cliffhanger, more a lead in to the next chapter of their lives.

3.5-4 Stars

All readers are forever in search of those illusive books that stay with them long after the last words are read. So you will understand me when I shout out "AMEN , HALLELUJAH SISTER , I HAVE FOUND ONE " !!!
Was it the fact Lisa Edward gave us .....

A. Corporal Riley Hammond who says sweet swoonworthy things like "Do you think I could add to your happiness Tara?"

B. Tattooed Rockstar Cole Michaels who gave us the follow scene that may or may not have induced a need for 'personal time" out by this reader
"He ran his thumb over my swollen lips, then touched his thumb to his own.I can taste you, he said, his voice so hoarse it was barely audible. He leaned down so close I could feel his breath on my cheek. And I can smell you."

C.Tara, the protagonist that we saw evolve from the broken girl we first met to the woman that literally found her voice again

If these are the reasons that make Songbird into one of my favourite books containing some of my new all time favourite characters then I am going to have to say its due to all of the above choices that are brought together in an exceptionally well written book.

I didn't just read this book, I LIVED it and FELT it. The raw emotion, the angst, the love and the times that we could see as readers that were yet to be identified by the characters.

This is the first book in the Songbird trilogy, a debut novel by Lisa Edward.... not that you would know it as it was a polished and well thought out book.

Was it a cliffhanger??? .... No , but I NEED to know what happens next!

Was it a love triangle?? .... No, but I SOOOOO want it to be ... ok So I may have a boy that I have a tiny little crush on ;)... well, tiny as in a LAY DOWN I THINK I LOVE YOU kind of way

Would I recommend it ?? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY. BUY IT, READ IT, LIVE IT

So I will leave you, and Tara , with this thought for Book 2 Songbird Caged

"A lot can happen in 6 months Tara. People can change, circumstances can change and you've committed to standing still"

I don't even know how to start my review of this book. I felt so many emotions while reading it. As someone who has dealt with a relationship that was toxic, I felt that I could relate more to Tara. I'm not going to lie and say there were moments where my past didn't creep up on me, but I was able to look at my past in a different light. Everyone deals differently with the way they handle things. I loved Tara even though at moments she grated on my nerves. I think that happened though because I felt like in some instances I was reading about myself and the way I felt. I was an emotional roller coaster reading this book.

On that note though, I absolutely loved this book. It was so raw but so real at the same time. Many people think it's so easy to just walk away and start over and for some it is and for some it isn't. I felt like the whole story was easy to relate to and just so real. I didn't feel like anything was sugar coated.

I loved all the characters and am so excited for the next book in this trilogy. Tara is finding her "happy" and I can't wait to see what happens next.

With the way the story began, I was really expecting much more. For the most part the story felt like it didn't have any real direction. The parts that did carry my interest were blended with parts that just didn't add to the story or to any of the characters. Every time something was revealed about a character it felted pushed and unnecessary. There was tremendous potential to make the story captivating and interesting but for the most part reading the book felt like a chore. I would have loved to read what Riley was thinking or what any of the other characters thought or had to say. There was so much background noise with all the other characters that made the main character seem annoying after a while. For the most part the story felt like I was reading someone's diary instead of a story about a beautiful, talented girl that finds her independence and learns about love, lust, and loss in the span of one year.

Not Just A Pretty Face

After years of being stuck in an abusive relationship Tara is starting over. With help from her only friend she has she moves in with Kelli until she can get in her feet. Struggling to get her live back to where she has confidence to do things Kelli takes her shopping. New wardrobe and hair does a lot for her confidence. Then she meets Riley. He is best friends with Kelli's boyfriend. Also in the military. This book has a lot of detail to it. Very well written. Seems very well thought out. It is very emotional. And I enjoyed it.

3.5 for me. It started a little bit slow but really picked up for me about 60% in. I am not sure I am a 100% sold on her love affair with Riley it all happened so quickly. The miscommunication and breakup were a bit cliche. I love the angst and buildup with Cole but wonder what guy would do the things he does to help her out. I'm hoping to get more of his story in book 2.

I was replied to a posting in a group looking for reviewers for an upcoming release. There was no blurb, no info on what author it was, just a new author is about to release and who wants to review. Well I am all about helping the new author so I volunteered. I am so happy that I did! That book was Songbird and I absolutely fell in love with the characters and their story! I wanted that HEA for Tara as she so deserved it but who she should have this HEA with is another story! I am so conflicted in my own thoughts that I’m like… damn Lisa has me loving the guy I should hate! How is that possible!?! But it is… I am a sucker for a good love story and this is one I fell in love with. It’s funny, clever, sexy, and has multiple hot leading men!

We start with our lead character Tara in a broken relationship with the appropriately named ex-boyfriend, Shithead. He is a true ass and so happy he was gone quickly. Tara left him when she soon discovered she had become a shell of a person she used to be. With the help of her friend Kelli, she was able to get on her own two feet and become the young women she used to be. Through another friend find a karaoke bar “Songbirds” and they quickly decide it’s their favorite place to be. She rediscovers her love of music and is able to start playing piano there a couple of times a week.

The owner of Songbirds is Marcus. He has the shaggy, just out of bed hair that looks effortless, sparkling eyes, and damn it... dimples! But when he is introduced by the girls hairdresser, Jason, they assume he plays for the other team and don’t take any notice to his friendly matter. He is the guy friend you love to have. He is easy to be around but don’t feel threated by him thinking he is going to make a play on them because, well he is very good friends with Jason. So they assume… Part of getting on her own two feet is hitting the gym. While working out, there is one guy… Mr Hotbod that catches her Tara’s attention. He has the lean gym body defined body without being all bulk. Every time Tara sees him she gets those butterflies but does not act on them. She would just rather watch from afar for now…

When Kelli’s boyfriend Cooper comes home on leave (he is active military) he brings with his best friend Riley. Oh yes… the tall, dark, and fuckable handsome with the most beautiful blue eyes piece of man candy is hard to resist! When Tara and him meet they have that instant connection. She assumes he has girlfriends all over the county with the way he looks but she quickly discovers he falls for her just as hard and because of his military career, he doesn’t do relationships. They fall fast and hard for each other. Because they only have short periods of time together, there is lots of hotness going on! The author does a great job with these scenes as even though they are not full details of the act, you get that sense of hotness going on. It was just the right amount.

While Riley and Cooper are away at a training exercise, Tara and Kelli decide to head out for a night on the town. They hit up a nightclub but decide they wanted to see a live band. Turns out the club they go to has multiple floors and they had a live band playing. Tara knows the guitarist, Jay, and heads up towards the front of the stage. To the girls surprise, they quickly learn that the lead singer is no other than Mr Hotbod from the gym. He is that stereotypical Rock God. He loves the ladies and they love him. He oozes sex appeal on the stage and the ladies eat it up! After the set, Jay and Tara have a minute to catch up and that’s when Mr Hotbod aka Cole makes her appearance. He is so cocky and arrogant I loved it! With Tara’s ties to Songbirds, she is able to help get them a regular spot there.

With Riley being gone so much, Tara makes herself busy at Songbirds. The banter between her and Cole fantastic! There is so much sexual tension between and the innuendos fly back and forth and I’m like, just get together all ready! But nothing happens since she is with Riley. I found myself rooting for Cole. I’m not quite sure why, but I just loved the chemistry they have together! I think it’s my soft spot for the Rock Gods… hmmmmmm… maybe!

When a misunderstanding tears Tara and Riley’s relationship apart, both Marcus and Cole are there to pick up the pieces. But when Riley comes back, will Tara take him back? Will Marcus or Cole see the open door and make their moves? Or will Tara just decide she needs time to discover herself?? You just need to read to find out… I would highly recommend reading this and love any book with a good love triangle or square! I am dying to read the next book to see how the rest of the story unfolds!

This book is AMAZING - I loved it! I was reading in bed way past any reasonable hour (one night I was reading it until 3:45AM)!! It started off a little slow, but once it picks up - you can't put it down!

Tara was well on her way to becoming a concert pianist because of her natural musical talent but her abusive boyfriend slowly put a stop to everything that she loves. The once vibrant women was now friendless and unrecognizable. Stephen controlled everything that she did, even giving her a script to learn before dinner parties because he said that she embarrassed him. He was also becoming increasingly physically abusive by pushing her down and grabbing her arms. Finally it was Stephen's openly cheating on Tara because he said that she didn't give him what he needed that forced her to make a decision. She looked in the mirror one day not recognizing herself anymore. It was then that she decided to leave him while he was away on a business trip.

If it had happened all at once, I wouldn’t have stood for it. I was always a very outgoing, vibrant person who laughed easily and often, before he came along. But when it happens slowly day by day, chipping away at the very core of you, it is less noticeable. Until it gets to the point where one day you look in the mirror and don’t recognize yourself anymore, but are too beaten down to do anything about it. I had morphed into an insecure, shell of myself, the light in my eyes almost extinguished. My hopes and dreams had slipped away and I had lost myself somewhere along the way. The only thing I lived for was his approval which never came. I was constantly trying to do better for someone who it seemed, just couldn’t be pleased.
The turning point came when his infidelities became more frequent and he stopped trying to hide them. He instead blamed me for driving him to it because of my inadequacy in the bedroom. My inexperience which he had been pleased about initially, soon became a negative in his eyes. - Tara

Soon after moving out of her only friend Kelli's one bedroom apartment, she settles into her own space. But she misses her friend and still spends time there. On one visit, Kelli's long-time boyfriend Cooper and his friend Riley were are there visiting. Cooper and Riley are both in Austrasia's elite group in the Special Forces that is stationed in Sydney, while Kelli and Tara both live in Melbourne. On this particular visit when Riley sees Tara for the first time, he cannot take his eyes off of her and sparks fly between them. Tara doesn't feel ready to jump into another relationship so quickly after Stephen and Riley hasn't been interested in a relationship since his last girlfriend became pregnant with his brothers baby. But neither can stay away.

I was falling for this guy. It had only been a few days, but my every waking moment had either been spent with him or thinking about him. His face was there when I closed my eyes, his smile, his laugh. I could feel his lips against mine even after we had said goodnight and I had climbed into bed. - Tara

“I’d built up all these walls, and convinced myself I was happy on my own just focusing on my career, and then with one smile you completely turned my world upside down. I can’t guarantee that this will be easy, in fact I know it’s going to be tough at times, but I also know I don’t want to be without you.” - Riley

Since Riley and Cooper are away for many weeks at a time, Kelli and Tara get gym memberships to occupy their time and that is where they see an amazing looking man that they refer to as Mr. Hotbod but Tara never talks to him because of her low self-esteem. Tara also begins playing piano and signing at a bar called Songbirds two night a week and working tables some of the other nights. It is there that she saw sees Cole a.k.a. Mr. Hotbod and all of his yummy hotness and they become friends, but he may be interested in more from her.

“I’ll still remember the night we met as the night that changed my life. You’re my exception to every rule.” - Cole

“I remember everything about the night we met. Your passion for music, the way it felt when you touched my hand. I couldn’t take my eyes off you. I still can’t.” - Tara

This book is open ended, meaning it is a bit cliffy but the book ends without finishing the whole story because it is far from over and I. Cant. Wait. To. Read. Songbird Caged!!

Wow! What a phenomenal debut from Lisa Edward. Words cannot even begin to describe how much I loved reading this book. A beautiful and captivating story with some of the most lovable characters ever. I could not have asked for more… well, except maybe for more Cole. There is something about that guy that just has my panties in a bit of a bunch LOL.

There were so many incredible characters in this story, I don't even know where to begin.
Tara- She had been in an emotionally abusive relationship for two years. With the help of her best friend Kelli, she packed up and moved out… leaving that chapter of her life behind her. She had been so brainwashed by her now ex boyfriend, that she didn't even realize just how beautiful of a girl she really was. With the help of Kelli, and some new found friends, she sets off on a journey of re-discovering herself, and putting herself back together. She is genuinely sweet and loving, and my heart ached for her to see how badly her ex had screwed with her head.

Enter Riley- the best friend of Kelli's boyfriend, and also a soldier in the Australian Army. The second Tara and Riley lay eyes on each other, the chemistry is undeniable. Things quickly heat up between the two of them, and before you know it, she has fallen head over heels for someone who she will spend more days apart from than being together with. But Riley is the absolute SWEETEST guy, and totally swoon-worthy… which completely makes up for his time away. Why are all the best guys fictional?!? It's just not fair! I mean, he is seriously the closest thing to perfect that has ever existed (yes, in my mind I am pretending he is real, and that he is mine!).

"I'd built up all these walls, and convinced myself I was happy on my own just focusing on my career, and then with one smile you completely turned my world upside down." ~Riley

BUT, even with how perfect Riley is, there is still some serious competition in the BBF department in Songbird. His main competitor for my heart is Cole (aka "Mr. Hotbod"). I always was a sucker for a bad boy, and Cole is no exception. Sexy, tattooed rocker with a playboy reputation… is there any girl he has not hooked up with? He is overly cocky and completely arrogant, but when he was around Tara you were able to see glimpses of the man who hid behind that act. There was just so much to him, and so much left unexplained and I was left with a little ache in my chest and the NEED to know what will happen next. It has been a couple days since I finished reading this book, and my mind STILL cannot decide which of these men I loved more. Can I just have them both? PLEASE? Lisa, I will sell my soul if you can make this happen! Honestly, its tearing me apart because I cannot decide which man I am rooting for Tara to end up with in the end! I don't think that has ever happened to me in a book before.

"I'll still remember the night we met as the night that changed my life. You're my exception to every rule." ~Cole

Where Songbird was not left off as a huge cliffhanger, it did leave me NEEDING more. And not just a "Wow, I liked this book and can't wait to read the next one". Oh no, it was a "OH MY GOD! How long until book 2? More than a day? Well fuck me! I will never make it. I NEED more NOW!". Lisa Edward is definitely a new author everyone needs to keep their eyes on. If you have not yet read the book, GO. BUY. IT. NOW! No, seriously. Stop reading whatever you are reading now, and start reading this. Songbird is one book I can confidently say you will not be sorry that you read it!

This book dragged my emotions through the dirt. One minute I'm laughing, then cringing at how terribly awkward the situation became, to having tears in my eyes for Tara's heart wrenching moments.. With all of the very likable characters, this book was a breeze to read, allowing me to easily fall into Tara's life. Although, at times, I wanted to shake Tara for some of the choices she was making, I was compelled from start to finish. Lisa, I cannot wait for the next installment!

Im not normally one to leave reviews as I dont know what to say besides it was a great book. Everyone relates to characters in a different way so its always personal. But with this book I dont know what it was that made it totally different for me. I related to Tara as not being good enough for the person you are with as my experience was very similar and then met the one person who understood me just like Tara did with Riley. I applaude Lisa on a brilliant and beautiful story. Riley was a sweetheart but I am all about team Cole..... a have a soft spot for him and feel that he needs to get his chance. Cant wait for book 2 to come out

Team Riley the whole way. I am loyal to my man! what a sweetheart.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster that I LOVED! it had the angst the love the total swoon worthy sighs. But you know what it also had a strong heroine (which is a nice change) and an awesome best friend! You can't get any better than that!

I can't wait for book 2. oh and TEAM RILEY ;)

I don't like Tara. She is an idiot. I don't like Riley. He's insecure and obsessed with her. I like Cole, Jason, Cooper, Kellie and Marcus though. The first 50% of the book is all about Riley then you finally meet Cole. I almost stopped reading it a few times but I wanted to meet him so I pushed through. Not happy about the last chapter at all.

"I swear on a stack of supernatural and soppy romance novels that I will get my life back together, follow my passion again and never look back"

Beaten down and wore out. Lost and unsure.
Yes that I think sums up our Tara, when we meet her.

She broke my heart. I wanted to hug her and say it's all going to be ok.
Your enough..You can do this.

Tara needs to find her way back to herself. Somewhere along the way life has caused her to remove herself from a key player in her own life.
She needs to write her story again and see what lies in the chapters.
It's a honest and sometimes crazy journey.

She has a wonderful friend Kelli whom I wanted to keep for my own. She was supportive and understanding.
We all need a BFF and Tara hit the lotto with hers.

“Not for me, for Tara. She needs to get laid and she thought Mr Hotbod was a prime candidate.”

Once she sets out and starts living. Well the fun starts.....

Music is something she loves. She soon learns to love it again.
In the process of finding her way she meets Riley. He is friends with Cooper, her BFF's other half.
(Oh and let's not forget Cooper he is flipping hysterical. Adored him! He made me laugh a lot.)

Riley is great. He is beautiful, and has his own baggage. (I mean wow! Read it.. Wow!)
He is a military man. His past has some parts that are just bitter and ugly. However he is a good man and he and Tara have some heat. The It's so good you need to turn the pages faster kind. Lol.

“Whether you’re lying here in my arms, or we’re a thousand miles apart, I will always love you. You will always be with me.”

It would be so easy if I were to just say it's a simple melt your heart love story. However it is not.. We have yet another beautiful man in the picture. Cole.. Arrogant and frustrating.. Makes you want to scream.
(Even though at times I think the only thing you might be screaming is his NAME) Did I mention he is a lead singer in a band? Oh shoot sorry!
Once we see what he is really about.. Well hell I will be honest I was confused and frustrated.

“Cole ticked every box in what I would ever want from a boyfriend, except for one thing. He was caring, thoughtful and attentive. He was funny and intelligent; he just couldn’t keep it in his pants.”

Even the wtf's made me go oh why oh why.. I mean there are so many good hearted men. One common ground- Tara.
This is where it got all muddled for me and I think I just wanted to scream.
I loved Riley. I loved his heart and his kindness. I admired him. He had a goodness that just radiated from him. He is a very capable and loving man. Then I would want to strangle him.
Then I loved Cole. I loved the bad boy he tried to be, with the heart he hid. I loved his tenderness when he did not think anyone noticed. I loved his compassion and his forthcoming personality. Then I would want to strangle him.
I mean if I am being totally honest. I fell for Cooper and Marcus (really need to know more) and Jay.. (More please)
I want a makeover from Jase and I want Cooper to provide me with my very own nickname.
Heck I might be trying to figure this out for months. Do not judge me, this book packs a solid punch with possible book boyfriends. Trust me.
Tara once she started living did find herself surrounded by a wonderful and vibrant group of people. Then same as others I wanted to strangle Tara too. See told you invested!

I cannot wait to see what happens next. Do we have a forever match and HEA? What does the future hold? Book two come on.. It's a great read by a wonderful new author. Congrats Lisa Edwards!

**JODIE'S REVIEW**

“It shouldn’t be about perfection, it should be about enjoyment.”

For a debut, Lisa Edward’s came out swinging. She got my attention and she held it till the end. I laughed, I almost cried, I was mad and I fell in love not with the main character! Yeah that happened a secondary character stole my heart and I am not going to lie I hope he makes a HUGE appearance in book 2. In fact prepare for this man, Mr. Hotbod Cole.

“Cole ticked every box in what I would ever want from a boyfriend, except one thing. He was caring, thoughtful and attentive. He was funny intelligent; he just couldn’t keep it in his pants."

That was okay with me, in fact, I loved him for it. Cole ticked all that and more, he stole my heart, almost my pants and I think I envisioned having his children. He was a rock star with a body everyone wanted to touch. Yes, that happened. So I guess I should talk about the story and the main characters a little because that’s what you really want to know.

“So you think I’m hot?” Cole asked cockily as he leaned towards me.

Yes I do and now I have to quit talking about you and talk about what’s his name, Riley. Riley is what every girl dreams about. Riley is the knight in shining armor, he this beautiful, I will protect you man. He was everything Tara wanted!

“Tara needs to get laid and Mr. Hotbod is the prime candidate.”

What the hell I can’t help it I really wanted her to sleep with Cole. But anyway we meet Tara at the beginning and she is escaping an abusive relationship with her boyfriend the douche aka shithead aka Stephen.

“The face he showed was all charm and everybody loved him. But under the charm laid a monster who surfaced often when we were alone together.”

I immediately felt for Tara and I wanted her to get a HEA! I hated what she put herself through but I loved how she recovered! I loved what she found in Riley, I loved how they saved each other.

“I love you more than life itself. I feel in love with you the night we met, you never fail to amaze me with your generosity, and the love and warmth you give to everyone around you. I feel so blessed to be one of those people.”

These two definitely had insta-love but it was explained and you understood the reasons. They have a strong love story but I can’t help think there is something with Cole.

“Don’t bother Cole, she has a boyfriend who could kick your ass with one hand tied behind his back.”

I don’t know I want Cole to try and I want to see what book 2 brings along. Which leaves me saying Lisa can I please have book 2 and can you make that happen.

This book was kindly recommended to me by a dear friend who was FACINATED by Songbird. After lots of nagging I finally decided to give this one a try. I didn´t feel it. Ergo- I didn´t like it as much as I hoped I would. I mean....with all the praises this book received from my friend ( who´s taste in books are almost identical to mine ) I felt that I couldn´t go wrong.

Let´s start with the book Cover:
Not exactly my cup of tea. I dislike seeing faces or bodies on a cover because I believe that influences the images readers create while diving into a story. I´m not a jugde at the Supreme Court of Book Covers ( although, I sometimes wish I was.. One can only dream *sigh* ), but this one didn´t do anything for me. In short: If I would have seen this cover before the story was recommended to me, I wouldn´t have given it a second glance. ( Yes, I judge books by their covers.....shoot me. LOL)

The Story:
I can see why alot of readers LOVED it. It´s just that it wasn´t enough for me to LOVE, let alone like. Although the story was supposed to be strong and emotional I felt nothing of the sort. The emotions were described, but I didn´t feel any of it. It felt more like reading off a check-list.

The Characters:
Tara O´Connell was, for me, an unlikable Heroine. She was not interesting and far from mature. I´m fully aware that this was just a story but I still wanted something gripping...something that would make me feel for the Main Characters or even relate to them. Tara was, sadly, not even close to make my list of BEST HEROINE EVER.

Now....the other characters seemed a bit more interesting at first. Every time a new character was introduced I got my hopes up, wishing the they would rattle things up some, but that never happened either.

The love interest here was flat. Tara / Cole – Tara / Riley....uuhm....I wasn´t convinced with either party. It´s all about emotions when love is involved. There must be a force field filled with ANGST, LOVE, and what-not. For some reason....the author wrote those madatory emotions down, and I had a hard time believing them. So, there wasn´t anything wonderous about the love interest, either.

The complete book felt forced. As if the author had so many ideas and didn´t know how to sort them out before putting them down on paper.

Like I said...I can see why many would LOVE this book. Everything in Songbird has so much potential to make one hell of a story, but it all got lost and stayed on a monotone level.

I´m not so sure if I would recommend Songbird. For anyone who wants excitement and the brutality that love usually brings along...I´d say this story isn´t the best choice. I may be wrong, though. Let´s just all hope book #2 is way better.

This book was ah-mazing!! I didn't want to put it down. It was a long book, but didn't feel long. I am happy and sad that this book ended. Sad because I have to wait for book two and happy that I get more Tara, Riley and Cole.

Tara is trying to find herself after a two year long relationship that didn't go well. She was always told she wasn't good enough. She needed to find herself and where she belonged in life. She was instantly attracted to Cole when she sees him. Though she doesn't know his name her and her best friend Kelli, called him Mr. Hotbod. She was embarrassed to talk with him after Kelli and her big mouth. She then meets Riley through Kelli and her boyfriend Cooper. She wants him and feels drawn to him, but doesn't know if she can handle a long distance relationship. She has issues with trust and doesn't think she can handle constantly wondering what is happening. Will she give Riley a chance? Or does she open up to Mr. Hotbod?

Riley is content with his life. He doesn't need a girl since his girlfriend broke him. He is shocked by the connection he feels for Tara the moment he meets her. He doesn't want to push her because he feels she is special and wants a chance to get to know her. He knows it won't be easy having a long distance relationship, but knows it will be worth it. Can her convince her to give him a shot?

Cole is a manwhore. Always with a different girl and never gives a girl a second time. He is happy the way his life is going. Until he meets Tara and she turns his life upside down. Making him want things he shouldn't. Will he have his chance at Tara? Or does his manwhore ways scare her off?

This is an intense book. It had me on the edge of my seat hoping for things to happen or not to happen. I really LOVE Riley. He was so sweet and charming. Though he wasn't perfect, but who is?
Now I had a lot of issues with Cole, but by the end of the book he had me rooting for him.
I am so torn with who I want Tara to end up with. I think that I will always be Team Riley. I cannot wait for book two so I can see what happens between all these people.
I loved all the secondary characters also. Jason, Marcus, Jay, Kelli and Cooper. I really would like to see a book on all of them. This is a definite MUST read book. I think Lisa Edwards did an amazing job drawing emotions out of me and making me feel like I was in the story.

This book was just amazing. Lisa carefully crafted the characters so you knew them well. Lisa has just come out of a really bad relationship when she meets Riley. They are instantly attracted to the other, and move forward quickly in their relationship. Riley is sexy, confidant, so good for Tara's ego when she needs it, sweet and caring. Cole, is someone that Tara actually meets and is attracted to before she meets Riley, she just doesn't know how much until they actually do meet. Cole is arrogant, a rock and roll singer with charisma to spare, he's loud, and sometimes obnoxious; but that's what he shows you.
This is a complicated story about love of all kinds, friendship, trust and just so much more. This is also a story about being in a long distance relationship, and what it takes to keep that going. Those are difficult enough, but when the distance is immediate and you don't really know the person that well - it just makes things harder for all involved. I loved Tara's friends for being there for her. I know it had to be difficult to watch Tara fall apart, especially when the breach of trust happened. That's when Cole stepped in and took care of Tara - as a friend, because that's what she wanted.
But I can tell you now, things are only going to get more complicated. But I'm really looking forward to finding out what fate throws Tara's way. I really want to know everything about these characters. I had started off thinking that there would be no way that anything could come between Tara and Riley once they made the decision to move forward with their relationship. However, the more I read about Cole, the more I want to know. I know from reading this, that there is far more to Cole than he lets everyone else see, but he let Tara see a side of him that I'm guessing not many get to see. I want to see more of that side of him!! The end of the book left me with so many questions, because there was a cliffhanger of a sort. This was definitely an excellent read, well worth the time. I can't wait to read the second and third books to find out what happens with them all. I really loved this book, and I'm finding that I really have a thing for Australian authors. I seem to love what they write!!

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Loved this book !! Right from the start I was hooked and could not get enough.

Tara has just realized she needs to leave Stephen and despite having low self esteem and seeming rather weak she does just that and she never looks back !! I was so proud of her character, knowing from personal experience it is not easy to do what she did. The writing was filled with emotion and I was able to relate very well. Stephen had spent years trying to make Tara someone she was not , he turned a beautiful strong woman into a week girl with very low self esteem. Thankfully with the help of a friend it does not take Tara very long to get back to herself and start enjoying life again.

This is where we meet the guys ! Jason , her gay but extremely awesome neighbor and his friend Marcus the very hot club owner. We also meet Kelli's man Cooper and his buddy from the service Riley , who is also very hot and very attracted to Tara. Actually all the men are attracted to her she just does not realize it and she is clueless to their advances and her flirty behaviors with them !! After a few weeks of hanging out at Songbirds for karaoke , piano playing and working she also forms a friendship with the very sexy singer Cole. It seems although they are a close knit group of friends at times they all have little secrets and desires they are hiding. Will these blow up in their faces or will they overcome the challenges.

In a long distance relationship with Riley and also pushing the boundaries of some of her friendships Tara faces choices that will change her life but for better or worse ?? Tara and Riley have trust issues being away from each other so much. Riley has a past which he is very secretive about and Cole loves to push Tara's buttons hoping to sway her to him but also hoping to make her stronger and help her reach her goals. This causes many issues with Tara and Riley and Tara and her other friends. The sexual attraction of Cole and Tara is super hot regardless of the love I have for her and Riley's relationship. Let's face it , Riley is a sex god and WOW I could not get enough of those sex scenes !!

In the end friendships are saved and love is formed. Tara and Riley will start a new chapter in their lives but first they have to survive 6 months apart. How will this all play out ??

This is a beautiful story of love, romance, heartache and learning to love yourself again.

This story starts off with Tara leaving a miserable relationship of nearly two years. During that time, her boyfriend was beyond controlling and somewhat verbally abusive to her. Tara loses herself and is no longer the outgoing, self-confident, spunky young woman she once was. She is nearly broken and desperately lonely. Her best friend Kelli is there to help her find herself again and learn how to pick up the pieces and move on.

We then meet Riley. Riley is a friend of Kelli’s boyfriend. He is a soldier in the Australian military Special Forces and also has a tumultuous past relationship. Riley is of course handsome and can have his pick of any women, but is instantly attracted to Tara and knows that she is the one that will complete him. With his career taking him to different locations, all he can offer is a long distance romance. Is that enough?

How about we throw in a hot singer in a band just to complicate things a bit? Cole is your typical lead singer with all the woman falling all over him and he gladly helps himself to all that they have to offer. He’s cocky, conceded and has the good looks and the body to back it up. He has the life that men would kill for, so why is he suddenly fixated on getting to know Tara?

Tara falls hard and fast. She finds herself madly in love with the man of her dreams. However, another man has her feeling things that she knows she shouldn’t. She is determined to follow her heart and not let anyone else get in the way of her happiness.

Will she remain faithful to the love that she has found? Or will the excitement she finds with another man find her questioning her future….Well, we don’t find out in this installment. Yes, it’s a cliffhanger. I for one am looking forward to seeing where her heart will find her. The writing was well done. The story had an even flow, kept my attention and had me attached to the characters rather quickly. I even enjoyed all of the supporting characters, especially Cooper! I highly recommend this book to those that love a romance with a bit of angst and lots of soul searching.
