Srinivasa Iyer Ramaswamy called as Cho Ramaswamy (Tamil: சோ ராமசுவாமி) is a comedian, editor, political satirist, playwright and lawyer in Tamil Nadu. He is the founder and editor of the Tamil magazine, Thuglak. His popularity in the Tamil Nadu literary circles is mainly due to his impartial assessment of political issues, and the audacity with which he publishes his viewpoints.
This book in one word is nothing but "awesome". Mr. Cho does a great job is making the epic easily readable and also the facts and the crux of each event is narrated very well. I have not read any other book on this but I don't think anyone else would do it as good as Mr. Cho.
Best part is he does not advise. He provides his perspective on different aspects during the narration. And makes it clear that it is purely his views and he leaves the reader to think and decide what suits him/her best. He points the different versions of specific stories in existence; e.g.,.story of Karnan meeting Kunti.
Overall best if this book can be read twice to ensure you are able to grab all the aspects and assimilate them. And there is no "Hindu" agenda here. It is a good historical narrative with men and (Hindu) Gods involved. The moral the epic brings out is very clear; best part is many of these aspects can be still followed today. Yes, at the same time there are facts that possibly can't be applied in today's world; like certain aspects towards women empowerment and how women were expected to conduct themselves in the period when the book was written. Nevertheless, there was and is a reason even for those aspects.
Overall I would recommend this book to anyone Hindu or not. On a side note I am also reading the "Kuran" though I don't follow the religion. Hats off to Cho and the publication house "Alliance" for bringing out such an important work of art.
An amazing epic of India, so many characters, so many morals, so many learnings. It never ceases to amaze me every time, I read a small part of it somewhere. This book, by the famous and eminent author, rather multi-faceted person, Cho. Ramasamy brings out the essence of Vyasar's version of Mahabharatham which is the authentic source of the epic. Cho, also provides his honest interpretations of the situations yet keeps a humble tone throughout. A must read for whoever wants to read the great Epic.
