With her dying breath, Elinor Milford's mother urges her to escape penury by seeking help from Allingham Hall. But the owner of this vast estate is a rich and powerful duke, far too young to have known her mother. Disguised as a dairymaid, Elinor sets out to unearth the secrets of her birth and unleashes a love affair that is tested to its limits.
Gabriel Claremont, Duke of Allingham, tries to forget his painful past in the shallow pleasures of his dissipated peers. Yet the new dairymaid, hiding behind mousy clothes and a modest demeanor, intrigues him. She is unlike any servant he has ever known. Despite his vow to to live without love, he is drawn to her far more than he will admit and soon finds himself fighting a tangle of fierce emotions.
How far must Elinor and Gabriel go to unravel the threads of their past--and discover their future?
I was born into an army family and most of my childhood was spent moving from school to school, including periods of living in Egypt and Germany. Some schools I loved and some I hated, so it wasn't too surprising that I left before completing my examinations.
I became a secretary but realised almost immediately that the role of handmaiden simply wasn't for me. Escape beckoned when I landed a job with an airline. I was determined to see as much of the world as possible and working as cabin crew I met some very interesting people and enjoyed some great experiences - riding in the foothills of the Andes, walking the shores of Lake Victoria, flying pilgrims from Kandahar to Mecca.
The arrival of marriage and children meant a more settled life in the south of England where I've lived ever since. It also gave me the opportunity to go back to ‘school’ and eventually gain a PhD. For many years I taught English at a number of universities and loved every minute of it. What could be better than spending my life reading and talking about books? Well, writing them perhaps.
Writing was an idea I enjoyed thinking about but there never seemed time to do more than dabble with the occasional short story. And I was always aware of a critical voice in my head telling me not to bother! But gradually the voice grew fainter and the idea that I might actually write a whole book began to take hold. I'd always felt an affinity with the 19th century and grew up reading Georgette Heyer, so when I finally plucked up the courage to begin writing, the novels had to be Regency romances.
I was delighted to learn just before Christmas 2009 that my first book, Reprobate Lord, Runaway Lady, had been accepted for publication. Since then I've published two further Regencies and a Victorian timeslip, Walking Through Glass. I'm getting immense pleasure from creating new worlds and sharing them with readers.
I read this quite a few years ago and was disappointed to see it was removed from Amazon. I would still recommend Love’s Tangle, and hope to read it again soon! It’s true regency sappy romance, and the plot isn’t overly exciting or avant-garde, but Godard’s writing is exceptional! Her flair for words and descriptions were a delight to read.
I really enjoyed this book by Isabelle Goddard. I’ve read a few of her books and she manages to combine her obvious love of period and history with a very entertaining plot and characters. The result is a highly enjoyable historical romance, well written and very competently researched. I love historical books and I can just picture life in the Regency period through Isabelle’s heart-warming story. The chemistry between Nell and Gabriel is great and we love the fact that they've both got issues to resolve before they can give in to their love! Look forward to the next one!
The premise of this story intrigued me, but it was just an ok read. I was expecting more intrigue or mystery surrounding her parentage, but it kinda fell flat. I would have liked more of an ending. Even if it was just an epilogue to clear up the questions that are unanswered. It was clean as to language, but had more sexual details than I would like to read-- but not steamy like some novels. language:clean, heat level: medium
