Laurel Heights #10

Loved by You

Rate this book
It’s time for Karma Taylor to ante up. When her mom raises the stakes, KT has no choice but to prove that she’s living up to her potential. To her mom, that means performing in the upcoming concert, but KT would rather run naked through Golden Gate Park than expose herself on stage. Chance Nolan, world traveler and all-around gypsy, offers KT a solution: distract her mom by faking an engagement—to him. KT would be doing him a favor, too, so he can shake the overzealous blonde who won’t take no for an answer. Only pretending to be in a relationship feels very real, and Chance wonders if he hasn’t been searching for KT all along. He just has to convince her he’s so much more than a decoy fiancé.

Kate Perry has once again (for the eleventh time) shared a story that made me wish I had friends like the ladies in Laurel Heights. Karma and Chance are so perfectly different but at the same time so perfectly similar. They compliment each other well. The secondary story was about Karma's sister Bijou and her relationship that started as a professional relationship and naturally moved to personal. Kate's books always make me feel so hopeful about love and finding it even when I'm not expecting to. I really hope she writes more in this series, but if not at least there are other books I can read to restore my faith in love.

Quoted from the book, chapter 1, page 8 1st sentence:
“It may have happened twenty-six years ago, but the fears didn’t feel old at all”
.
Relatable? Indeed! This book talks about KT, who lives her life according to the expectation of her loved ones. Being good at something does not mean that we enjoy doing it, that is what KT felt at some point. She don’t enjoy those millions of eyes looking at her. All that changed until she met Chance Nolan. Each of Kate Perry’s book has the typical happy ever after ending but it is so well written that I will get upset if its not a happy ending. If you are into e-book, download this book or purchase it. It is worth the money.

Loved by me

The Laurel Heights series of double romances started on a high with two sisters, but kind of lost me in the middle when the stories became more disjointed. But now Loved by You is here to round off the series and it's goes back to it's roots as we follow two more sisters along the path to love.
Karma (KT) and Bijou are the spoiled but talented rich kids of a hopelessly romantic couple of rock stars. At 30 and 27 they act more like teenage brats at times, but I loved them both as they learned to grow up, follow their own paths and find true love along the way.
The men in their lives are gorgeous inside and out, and the whole show is stolen by a little pig called Ante Up. I know, exactly the name that would spring to mind for a pet pig right?
Thank you Kate Perry for making me want to live in Laurel Heights again.

CHILDREN OF ROCK STARS

Karma, who prefers to be called KT, and Chance embark on a fake relationship to foil plotting women - her mother and his HR headhunter. Fake, well, doesn't stay fake for long... what ensues is an epic romance of well-placed understanding and supportiveness.
I did say children. Rock stars Lara and Hanson's other daughter, Bijou is also finding her forever supportive and caring man.
This is not the first book I have read from Kate Perry, but it is the first I've reviewed. Shame on me. The reading world needs to know about this fantastic romance writer. It's more than the romance; she understands family dynamics and friendships. Definitely pick up something from Kate Perry today!

Love this series and I’m so sad it’s over. This book focuses on the lives of KT (Karma) and her sister Bijou. Both love music however both have had their share of problems when it comes to music. For KT she has had stage fright since she was 4 years old and can never get over it. For Bijou her ex stole her song and her magic to write more. There mum gives them an ultimatum to try and kick start their lives. They both find what they have been missing in life as well as love.

This a series I have really enjoyed reading. Great characters throughout. This one, again, ends on a slight cliffhanger and leads on to Say You Will which is the first book in the Summerhill series. So you really need to read that immediately after this one.

Karma Taylor has lived in her parents shadow her whole life and she is content there. She doesn’t have to be in the spotlight. Unfortunately one incident when she was incredibly young has kept her there. Though she is completely comfortable hiding out in the bungalow behind her parent’s home and composing music for herself, her mom wants so much more from her. She feels as though she is the reason her daughter stays hidden away, knowing that she subject her daughter to this life with that one performance that seemed to have scarred Karma.

In an effort to get Karma out of her shell again, her mother does the unthinkable, she has told Karma that she has to perform at a concert and if she doesn’t, her sister, Bijou, can’t either. But here’s the thing, her sister was born to perform. Not Karma though, she was born to compose.

An additional effort to get Karma out of her shell includes finding her a love life. GAH! A meddling mother to top it all off… but when she arranges for Karma to meet another man, she sneaks out and leaves Bijou to fend off the guy.

Karma escapes to the neighbors where she has always found solace. But what she runs into is a chance. Not just any chance, but Chance Nolan.

Immediately feeling the attraction, her first moment with Chance is a kiss. Chance is trying to get rid of the attention of a head-hunter and Karma happens to just be there in time. That one kiss changes everything for both Karma and Chance. Agreeing to a fake relationship will keep Tiffany, the head-hunter, away and Karma’s mom at bay, or so they hope. But what starts out as a “fake” relationship quickly turns into something else for both Karma (K.T.) and Chance. But neither will admit it.

But in the midst of all of K.T.’s issues are those of her sister, Bijou. Bijou was born to be on stage and she loves it, but one bad move by a ridiculous ex and she knows this concert is her only hope of a comeback to truly become great and famous. But if she can’t get her sister to perform, then her hope is gone too.

When K.T. left the house to escape that day, Bijou meets the guy that their mother was intending to see Karma. But when the two of them meet, it is quickly discovered that Will is not there to date K.T., he is a shrink there to help her overcome her fear of the stage. Bijou and Will hit it off and become friends, but Bijou knows it can never be anything more than that because in addition to being a shrink, he is also a musician. Bijou will never get involved with a musician again. She had her heart and her career shattered by the last one. Nope, never.

This book was exciting and fun to read. Anytime you mix characters with the names of Karma and Chance, you just know things are going to happen in an unexpected way. Nothing is normal about these two characters and I loved that about them. Their names are as unique as their personalities and I just fell in love with both of them and their little piggy too! I love the fact that the pig was won in a poker game and his name is Ante Up. So cute.

This was just a great book to sit back and relax and read. It wasn’t overly angsty or full of too much drama. It was a perfect balance and I just loved it. The way the characters interacted and the passion they had was breathtaking and beautiful. But it was a simple story with complex characters. It kept me reading from beginning to end and I was so excited to share in another Laurel Heights novel by Kate Perry.

First, I have to admit I am a fan of the author. I have read more than one of her books and will probably read more of them in the future. Having said that, I LOVED this book. I appreciate that the characters in Ms. Perry's books are flawed, without being hopeless. While it is kinda unrealistic that all the characters would meet their matches and immediately know that the other one is "the one" for them, I appreciate that there is not a lot of ... subterfuge in the relationships. You know what I mean - "I like you, but I won't tell you until 200+ pages later". (so aggravating). And while this book is part of the LAUREL HEIGHTS series, you can read this book as a stand-alone book without feeling like you are lost. Characters from previous books are brought back, but not in ways that are overtly intrusive.

In this installment, the focus is on siblings KT (aka Karma) and Bijou, who are the children of famous rock-n-roll stars. And even though they are each individually talented in their own rights, the story centers around a concert to be given by their parents and the role each of them will have to play at the concert. (That pun was totally unintended!) KT has an excruciating case of stage fright as a result of a childhood recital incident. And Bijou is traumatized by a betrayal from a former boyfriend who stole a song she wrote and now she suffers from writers block as a result. To jumpstart these characters, their mother tells them that Bijou, who is ready to resume her career, cannot sing at the concert unless KT plays something. Talk about paternal pressure.

Along the way, KT decides to distract her mother from her nefarious plan by inventing a fake boyfriend and then fiance in Chance, the next door neighbor whom she rescues from a man-eating headhunter who is supposed to be helping him find a job. Somewhere along the way, both of them decide that they want it to be "real" and not fake, but not without some adventures with each other and a very adorable pig named Ante Up - well, adorable if you like porcine pets. Meanwhile, Bijou meets and falls in love with Will, who is supposed to be a therapist for KT to help her over her stage fright. Somehow, KT never goes for her appointments and Bijou attends in her place.

This is a great love story for adults. The few sex scenes are not overtly sexual and in fact, the author does a great job of alluding to sex taking place when it does, without getting bogged down in salacious paragraphs that go on and on and on about grown folk stuff.

I would recommend this for anyone who just loves a good love story. Who believes that love can conquer a variety of obstacles. And for anyone who has ever wanted (or been involved with) a person who "will hold my hair back when I vomit". (Read the book, you'll understand the reference)

Content: D+ Narration A-

Narrated by Xe Sands
Always enthused to hear another romance title narrated by Xe Sands, I started listening to Loved by You expecting an intelligently written contemporary romance, on par with Rachel Gibson and Kristan Higgins. After all, the publisher’s blurb compares Kate Perry’s writing to these contemporary romance giants. Two of my favorite authors, Gibson and Higgins know how to develop characters and focus the action on the protagonists; they take real life situations, and create conflict and resolutions that ring true and, in the process, make you laugh or make you cry. Kate Perry, however, clearly does not. I wasn’t an hour in before I started feeling like I’d been exposed to a bit of false advertising.
Straight contemporary romance is my favorite romance sub-genre but it can be one of the most challenging to pen, I suspect, as it is only about relationships with no other plot points such as evil villains, history, mystery, and the like. Any suspense centers on the leads’ interactions with one another and/or the effect of outside forces on the primary relationship.
Loved by You falls solidly in the straight contemporary romance category and therefore I was hoping for a complex relationship between a credible hero and heroine. But instead of complexity, I found underdeveloped characters with farfetched backgrounds and current circumstances. It felt like the author, in an attempt to create a fresh romance, pulled together a bunch of unlikely scenarios, threw them all in a pot, and tried to make something taste good that simply wasn’t meant to be mixed together in the first place.
Karma (KT) Taylor is the daughter of famous parents – their fame as musicians is compared to that of the Beatles. The setup sounded like it held great promise as the parents are secondary characters.

This was a very confusing story. I loved that basic romances involved music and the two sisters: KC and Bijou, but they was so many other people involved that they disappeared.

First there was the families of the girls (the guys families were barely mentioned). I say families because the next door neighbors were like a second family. If fact, as we learned in the previous story, KC hid out most of the time at her friend Scott's next door. Though Scott was on his honeymoon with Nicole, she still hid out in the guestroom even after a friend of Scott's moved in.

There were a few new characters: There was the girl Scott was hiding from (never amounted to much), the therapist KC was avoiding (he's important), Rosalind who designed and made dresses as needed,(could have used a store, but I think she's being introduced as a future character.)

All the regular Laurel Heights people were there. And I say all. Most were worked in to help out a certain twists of the story. Gwen needed someone to teach piano to a teen which got KC outside herself abit. Eve's place was a meeting ground a few times and several of the regulars were seen there and at Gwen's 'Purple Elephant' But there was no reason for her gourd art to pop up several times. Olivia had to sell her fancy underwear even though KC tended not to wear it. And there were so many people at the wedding that I couldn't remember who was who.

It felt like the Ms. Perry threw all her ideas in a pot, stirred it a bit, then poured it into the book, rearranging it a bit to create a storyline. Her earlier books were alot better. They were cute, simple and romantic, but I think she's running out of ideas.

I did love the dad, the pig and therapist (sounds like a joke, but different characters). And the play on words with names was cute.

Best bits: the piano lessons.

This was a quick and pleasant read. It is part of a series, but I didn't feel as though I was missing anything major from not reading the other books. This story is about KT and Chance and a secondary story about her sister, Bijou and Will.

KT is the daughter of two music industry greats. She, however, hates the limelight. She is happy keeping her music to herself and refuses to perform. Her mother has a different idea and schemes in a way that KT can't refuse to perform.

Chance is a smart guy who is done living his life of uncertainty. He is ready to get a real job and settle down. After attending the wedding of his college best friend he decides to stay in Laurel Heights. He has a potentially great job offer, but it is in the hands of a woman who wants much more from him than to offer him a job.

Together KT, Karma, and Chance come up with a solution to help each other...a pretend relationship. This will keep her Mom happy and the woman who wants him at arms length. Only one problem, it starts to feel real very quickly.

Bijou is the entertainer of the family and loves the spotlight. She and KT are close, but she becomes a bit selfish when KT won't perform because of the rule their Mother placed on the concert. She and her mother come up with a plan to get KT over her fear.

Will is the hot therapist hired to get KT over her fear of performing. He is also a musician which immediately turns Bijou off. She has sworn off all musicians, but this one just might change her mind.

Bijou and Will discover what they are looking for in each other while attempting to help Karma.

This is a simple story with some good moments. It all just happened way to quickly. The two couples have some very tender and sweet moments together, but overall it felt rushed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The gift of life comes with a price..... Karma (KT) and Bijou Taylor grew up in the limelight of their parents. Still, popular performers, their parents continued to hobnob with the rich and famous of the music world. Refusing to be overshadowed by their parents, the two girls have lofty aspirations and the talent to achieve them. This doesn’t mean that talent was any guarantee for success as they both had their personal shortcomings. Karma, or KT, as she preferred to be called had that rare musical that enabled her to play any instrument she set her mind to play but also the fresh and exciting ability to compose beautiful music. One could say that she was the Mozart of her time. Her major shortcoming was her totally debilitating stage fright. Bijou, like her older sister, had the voice of an angle but was weighed down by the pressures of her mother’s expectations. Both girls suffered as their mother dominated their lives from career decisions to romantic endeavours. Then Chance Nolan comes into KT’s life. Within a few minutes of their first meeting they for a relationship of convenience but the kisses they share aren’t pretentious but filled with immediate and deep passion.

It is a delightful contemporary romance with loads of emotion and passion. The sexual passages are tempered with romantic feelings. The many memorable characters complete the story and Chase’s pet piglet Ante Up absolutely steals your heart. It is a book that should appeal to a large reading audience and I highly recommend it.

OK. So it's a romance novel at it's core, but there is a storyline! Unlike some other books I've recently finished, this book seems like it was planned out. The story pulls you in. It follows a mostly logical progression. Sections of time that are missing aren't just randomly referred to - they are part of the plot.

KT and Bijou are sisters whose parents are rock legends. They are also musically gifted, but KT suffers from intense stagefright - something her mother attempts to force her to overcome. Chance is a visitor next door, and he and KT begin a "fake romance" which is supposed to ward off the unwanted advances and challenges facing them in their lives. Their agreement morphs into something much more serious, and they both learn about their own personalities through the process.

The main characters (Bijou, KT, and Chance) tell the story from their points of view. It's part of a series of strong women from Laurel Heights, California - and characters from the authors other books play roles in this storyline as well. Only a few minor grammatical errors, but otherwise it's an easy book to fall into. I've read a few from the series as well, though I don't think it matters if you don't read them in order.

This is the 10th, and I believe final, novel in the Laurel Heights series by Kate Perry. KT and Chance are both quirky characters who begin a fake relationship that at some point stops feeling fake, and they have to figure out if they can make a real relationship work. The side story is about KT's sister Bijou's budding relationship with musician/therapist Will, and her reluctance to date another relationship. KT and Bijou grew up the children of world famous rock star parents, who are just as quirky and lovable as their children.

We also get to see glimpses of several of the previous characters in the Laurel Heights series. If this is the end, I wish we could have seen just a bit more of the characters we had grown to love as some were completely omitted in the final book and I felt like I didn't have a chance to say goodbye.

I think for a new reader who had not read the previous books, this would be easy to pick-up and not feel lost. The characters from previous books we do see are well explained and have reasons to be there, so it shouldn't leave a new reader wondering what they were missing.

This was a pleasant story - number ten in a series but I didn't feel that was an issue to understanding the story.

Our heroine, KT is a talented musician, daughter to a famous singer/songwriter duo who has crippling stage fright. She won't even sing or play in front of her own family. She has become a little bit of a loner, living in her parents' pool house. Her mother gives her an ultimatum - start living life. Since she resists all attempts by her mother to set her up with a "nice boy" her mother says if she doesn't participate in their upcoming concert her sister can't. Her sister has been screwed over by her ex-boyfriend and her record label and really needs to take part in the concert.

A chance meeting with Chance who is staying next door leads to a hair-brained scheme to pretend to be engaged.

It's all feel good and self-awareness - spoiled only by KT's mother who allegedly has only the best of intentions but quite frankly should never have been allowed to raise children as she seems to belong to the "throw them in the lake and they'll learn to swim" school of parenting.

Well Kate Perry I am sad and sorry that this is the last of the Laurel Heights crowd, but as always I loved this story just as much as the rest. As I've said previously I love these strong minded women that can take on the world but still have a vulnerable side like all of us when it comes to their personal stories.
I love KT and her quirky eccentricities from when she was introduced to us in previous books. I love that at the age of 30 she still jumps the fence and hides next door. Upon doing it one more time she falls into the arms of a friend visiting their mutual friend Scott - Chance, and as they say the rest is history. Love starts to blossom although she doesn't realise it, but as always with Kate perry's women they go after what they want even when it's a major risk, because it's worth it when it's right.
To keep these characters alive I'll just have to go back and re read all of them

Loved by You came at a perfect time for me ..I just read two very "make you cry" books in a row and needed something short and light-hearted. Kate Perry and her Laurel Heights gang always fit the bill. I love these characters and always look forward to the next one. In LBY you meet two sisters looking for love and boy do they find the right guys when they least expect it. Who couldn't love a couple whose names are Chance and Karma...I know I did...somewhat broken, Karma, and looking for his anchor, Chance, make such a perfect connection immediately...a truly hot but funny "relationship" ensues. Then there are Bijou and her psychiatrist/musician...(really??) who could resist that one? All looking for a reason to start anew -- all finding that in each other. In the epilogue we are given more info about Rosalind, the wedding dress maker, who I am sure we will love in book number 11. Kate Perry never disappoints!

The best of the series. Another fun quick read, but this was much deeper.

KT (Scott's best friend from Mad about You) is the daughter of a famous rock and roll duo who doesn't want to perform (even though she's gifted) and Chance is a poker player and Scott's friend who's staying at Scott's mother's estate (KT's neighbor) while he gets his act together.

Bijou is KT's sister and wants to perform but was scorned by a pop star who used her for her songwriting. Will is a musician/shrink who was originally hired to help KT overcome stage fright.

We learn more about these characters than we do in any of Perry's other books; Bijou is selfish; KT is fearful.

I love that Perry develops strong female characters who are independent, yet need a partner. I had a couple of issues (a couple of character inconsistencies; I hated that the mother is so passive-aggressively overbearing, if that's even possible, we get it with this one).

I can't believe that ends the Laurel Heights series! This series changed my life. Thank you, Kate, for giving me the opportunity to follow so many diverse women as they discover their purpose, live out their dreams, and each find the love of their life. These books encourage your passion and give you the hope and drive to never settle. Who knew one neighborhood could be so full of possibilities and life. Read Laurel Heights or miss out on the best books ever!
Experience a wonderful end to a remarkable series. Kate ties in some of our old favorites as you follow KT through her journey into love. You can't help but love KT's quirkiness and wish with all your heart that she will be able to realize her dreams. Chance and KT's love story have more hope than annoying, unending drama. Chance supports and pushes KT to find her purpose, even though their relationship is just for show. Or is it?

I always enjoy the Laurel Heights books and this was no exception. The final installment in the series finds Karma (KT) and Chance (Yes, just the names alone are perfect as a couple) meeting and pretending to be a couple. They both have their reasons for pretending but we see from the get go that they really enjoy and have a strong connection with each other. KT is an awesome musician with an amazing talent but she has severe stage fright. With Chance's support and encouragement we see her take steps to over come that.
There's also a secondary couple with Bijou(KT's sister) and Will a therapist/musician. The relationships between all the characters are warm and loving.

I'm sorry to see this series end but Kate Perry makes a point of introducing Rosalind, a character that will continue on in her new series set in England.

Another great Laurel Heights story by Kate Perry! I really like this series and enjoy, not only meeting the new characters, but seeing glimpses of the old. Karma and Chance are great characters with a lot of chemistry and sexual tension between them from the start. Their journey to a HEA was filled with a lot of laugh-out-loud, as well as heartfelt, moments. They were definitely two different types of people that I hadn't read about before. A gambler and a musician with stage-fright make for an entertaining match. I also really enjoyed Bijou and Will's storyline. They are another great Laurel Heights couple. I'm looking forward to the next installment, and I recommend you read this entire series!

Keeping the storyline from the Laurel Heights series, Kate Perry takes on KT's love life. I liked the story in general, how the characters were developed and the dialogue, but I did have problems with the mother. How could KT and Bijou (her sis, the parallel storyline) stand her meddling so much in their lives? I get that it's got to do with their traumas and getting through stuff, but still, I would have bitten her head off after the first conversation.

***Spoiler alert*** KT doesn't want a big puffy wedding, an engagement party, or anything of sorts, but her mother pressures her to do it and she does? She's got no self respect, and I would have expected her to elope instead of go through the (for her) dreaded wedding. Other than that, loved the story and the whole series.

I have really enjoyed Kate Perry's Laurel Heights series. It is one of my favourites, with this last book, Loved by You, as one of the best. Great, fun characters, who tackle a few of their own issues along the way. Beautiful men, who support and love and banter, with wit and purpose. A bit of sexy times gives the book some spice, without going overboard. Karma and her sister, Bijou, are fantastic! They are flawed, but not weak. They are unique, and they learn to embrace that uniqueness. It's a nice journey, and I love how the other characters we've come to love from previous books in the Laurel Heights series play a role in bringing this book to life.

I guess I'm kind of a sucker for Kate Perry. Her books are light, fun, and a quick read. Sure, they are predictable as are most in this genre but her characters are genuinely likable. There's the abrupt meeting with instant attraction, bold moves, hot sex, relationship development, misunderstanding/conflict, happy ending resolution. And you know what? That's okay. That's why we read them. I think I've read close to all of the Laurel Heights series and though the plots might not be totally different, each of her characters are very different. She has a way of making the reader want to live in that section of San Francisco and visit all of the places she has invented there.

Another book in the Laurel Heights series, I have read a lot of them, this one popped up on sale. I love these cute, sexy, fun books filled with little laughs. Karma Taylor is part of a musical family her folks are famous singing duo and her sister is trying to make it big. She had her heart broken when the song she wrote with her then boyfriend stole. She hasn't been able to write music since. Chance Nolan is living next door and suggests he and KT pretend to be dating to head off her pushy mom and a pushy woman that he isn't interested in. The music part of the story I love and always a HEA. Love the Laurel Heights Characters
