Letting Go #2

All She Wanted

Rate this book
Choices.

They determine how we live, who we are, and what we want. Some choices are made for us.

Others we must make for ourselves.

Charlie Lexington is a living consequence of both. Everything about the feisty redhead represents a second chance—even her name. Though she was rescued at the age of five, her past is a lingering reminder of what she longs for most.

And the one thing she has spent a lifetime trying to find.

After a series of less-than-stellar choices, her Performing Arts Scholarship now hangs by a thread. Her sudden suspension has not only resulted in her father’s disappointment, but in the loss of her freedom as well.

She is forced to face the music: four weeks house arrest.

Briggs is the carefree, charming, yet all-too-mouthy fireman who is asked to keep an eye on the pretty little spitfire. He quickly learns, however, that his first assessment of her was off—she’s tougher than she looks. When her stubborn resolve pushes his sanity and intercepts his heart, his loyalties are put to the test.

Sometimes the hardest choice we make, is the one we must make for love...

** This is the second book in the Letting Go series, but it can be read as a standalone book **

This was a really heartwarming story with two main characters who had decisions in their pasts that they regretted. Charlotte (Charlie) was a character carrying a lot of baggage from her difficult beginnings in life, but was having an especially difficult time and acting out due to more recent heartbreak.

Briggs had turned his life around and given his life to Christ. He was a great hero. Strong, reliable, and utterly devoted to Charlie. I loved his love for her. They had a lot to work through and some of it was painful, but definitely worth the journey. I loved the way these two were together. They had great banter, great chemistry, and were clearly meant for each other.

"You were her rescue once - saving her from a fate worse than death. But she is my rescue now - breathing life into the place of my heart that were long ago dead. She is love to me."

Waou. Just waou.

Ok I did not expected that. This book was.. really incredible..

I mean, I liked the first one, I did, but it was a little too much religious for me. But this one.. I really don't have anything negative to say about it.

I loved the 2 POV and how the story flowed freely because of them.

Charlie is.. she's really something else.. She's this little girl who spend the first 5 years of her life with a mom completly worthless, being hungry, not feeling safe, cared, loved.. Wanted.

"She liked the quiet, yet she cried incessantly. And when she wasn't crying, she was sleeping. I was old enough to see that she was broken, and desperate enough to believe that I could fix her - that I could make her well, that I could make her smile, that I could make her love me."

But she's also this young woman full of strength, funny, full of life, loving, but also full of insecurities and scared to be rejected.. She's one of the most complex character I've ever read about. And also one of my fav'..

""Charlie has always tried to escape hurt and pain buy doing whatever she could to avoid it - all of us do that to some degree, but with her it's a little different. Charlie has always had the same weakness Briggs, do you not what it is?"
In an instant, the answear was there in my head, and on my lips.
"She never felt wanted.""

Briggs.. I loved him in "All for Anna", but in "All She Wanted" I fell in love with him all over again.. He has a crazy past too. Neglecting parents. A sister who's been abused. He has a past of violence, full of sex, drinking and fights..

"I'm not a guy who's posing to appear bad.. I'm just a guy who's trying for the first time to do better - to be better."
"But it's not the bad guys who care enough to try."

Somehow he managed to turn his life around and to become this firefighter, trustworthy, strong, and caring.. I loved his relationship with his sister (I can't wait to read her story btw), how he cared about her, how he protected her..

When Charlie's father asked Briggs to keep an eye on Charlie, nobody expected them to fall in love with each other, but that's exactly what happened.

"You are, without a doubt, the most beautiful woman I've ever known - outside, inside, every side. You're beautiful when you laugh, when you cry, when you rage and when you sleep. You are beautiful from sunrise to sunset, and each moment in between."

I loved how he managed to break all her defenses, and how she manage to break all of his..
They tried to fight it, they really did. I think that that was the most frustrating part of the book btw, but in the end their love was stronger..

"Charlie, you're everything I want, and yet nothing I deserve. All the months I've waited for this moment have proven only one thing to be true over and over again. I am hopelessly, miserably and so out-of-my-mind desperately in love with you."

All She Wanted was all I wanted and more!

From the moment I met Briggs in All For Anna, I wanted a happy ending for him. All She Wanted not only provided Briggs with a chance to prove himself as the man we knew him to be all along, but it gave him Charlotte, who is his perfect match in every way. This book doesn't stop at a brilliant romance, however. It continues to impress further, by giving readers an insight into both Briggs' and Charlotte's characters.

I love how complex they both are. Whilst many other romance authors paint such relationships in black and white, Nicole Deese gives you the red, the blue, and all the colours in between. Love isn't easy...but it's worth it - that is the message reinforced by both Briggs' and Charlotte's tireless efforts, and their battle to fall in love for the right reasons, and in the right way.

So, besides being utterly heartbroken that Briggs is not real, nor is he my boyfriend (lucky Charlotte!), All She Wanted left me warmed to the heart, swiping away happy tears and looking forward to reading All Who Dream :)

If I could choose two words to describe this novel, they would be raw and gripping.
This novel exudes raw emotion. The characters in this novel are not so cliche like the characters in other books I've read. They are real. The struggles, the desires-they are human, yet not too human that it's not intriguing.

Without a doubt, this novel is gripping. I was pulled into Charlie's story from the first page and was held until the last (which is when I also needed a few Kleenex..).
I literally could not put it down. In fact, I spent an entire evening reading it. And when I was done, I felt a little like I had lost a friend. I really enjoyed this novel....

All she wanted was a gift to read! The beginning pulls you into the mind of someone who was abandoned and hurting. Then Deese reveals how this journey of one young woman comes into her new beginning. Again Deese is witty, hilarious (her one liners will make you hurt laughing) and keeps you guessing till the end! Her characters (some new in All she wanted and some from All for Anna the first book in this series) are full of depth and stick with you. The charming Briggs sets the bar for bachelors everywhere! I enjoyed this book every min and highly recommend to anyone!

Incredibly powerful story about two intriguing characters and their journey towards real love...A love that waits. Hysterical, revelational, and insightuful. I was blown away by the authors ability to connect with my heart. I laughed out loud throughout the book and had to have the kleenex nearby! Does a book get any better than that? This author has a beautiful gift, you will not be dissapointed by any of her books!

I loved this unique story! The banter was wonderful! I loved how Briggs became Manny (man nanny).
The two points of view made the story so complete. Their relationship was amusing and emotional. Briggs was the epitome of patience and love. "I was going to be the first man who’s heart shot right out of his chest due to anxiety and love."
Highly recommend!

I got this book from a GoodReads First Reads giveaway and having not read the first book I didn't really know what to expect. The good thing though is that you don't even need to read the first book. This book was perfect as a stand alone.

Charlotte "Charlie" Lexington's mother committed suicide when she was five and since then she has always fell unwanted. Piano seems to be the one thing in her life that takes away any feelings that she isn't good enough. Until she meets Briggs.

Calvin "Briggs" Briggs-Morrison is a firefighter who is recovering from being addicted to women, booze and fighting. He's one of those people that you can't help but fall madly in love with because of how very big his heart is. How very protective and caring he is. It only gets better when the two of them are thrust together because of Charlie's bad choices at school this past semester.

From the moment she started calling him Manny, and then had to explain what that even meant, I knew that this was going to be an amusing relationship. What I hadn't expected was how emotional it would be. Their entire relationship was a roller coaster with its ups and down and loops. But I loved every second of it. The sentences are a little short, and usually that would take away (in my opinion) from the maturity of the novel, but not in this story. Watching Charlie grow up from a partying college girl hell bent on making the wrong decisions to the girl she became at the end of the book was wonderful. The only thing that could have made the book better would have been to have more scenes of them actually dating in it. As it was there isn't much, it's mostly all UST.

Despite all of that this is the kind of book that I would read over and over again. I'm so glad I got the chance to read it.

I have had the pleasure of reading this book before publication. I fell in love with Briggs' character in All for Anna and was absolutely stoked that I got to read an entire book about his character. He is so real and lovable.
One of my favorite parts about the book is the witty banter between the characters. I am a sucker for that. Its just plain fun.
Deese again manages to pull off an intriguing, fast-paced book that is more than just entertainment. Her characters are real, developed, and carefully thought out. Deese is full of humor and brings life to the character's environment. She has mad writing skills.
She brings the right amount of tension to her novel, creating an experience that leaves you on the edge of your seat and rooting for Briggs. Charlie is a spitfire and has a lot of heart, she brings a painful beauty to the novel. I imagine that there will be quite a few people that might relate with her story.
It was nice to get to enjoy All for Anna's characters in this novel as well. They do not have huge parts but its always nice to see where character's progress and we get to catch a glimpse of Kai and Tori.
Well Done Deese, well done! You have managed to capture hearts again with your warmth, wit, and charm. I look forward to reading your future novels.

Four and a Half Stars! All She Wanted, is a beautiful, touching and sweeping story that encompasses so much more than entertaining. This novel will touch your heart. Deese did a wonderful job of not only creating real and heartfelt characters, but ones whose story reaches out to you on several different levels. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing not only friendship but a lot more bloom in Charlie and Briggs relationship. Their interactions and feelings seem very real and easy to relate to. There is a deeper message woven into this novel, that is so sweet and touching, and not at all preachy. I just finished this novel and I just keep thinking - wow, that was so good! It left me feeling happy and encouraged.

Really this is a wonderful novel! And it is the first novel I have read by Nicole Deese. However, it is part of a series (Letting Go) and the second book in the series. I have to say this is also the first time I have NOT read a series in order. Still, as touted, you do not have to read these in order, they are good as a stand alone novel. Still, I will eventually go back and read Book 1, but for now Book 3 is calling my name (wink)!

All it takes is God's perfect timing....

Charlie Lexington needs to make a choice, a decision that will affect her future, a second chance. Her Performing Arts Scholarship is hanging on by a thread due to a previous break up with her ex-fiancé. Now, she is suspended from the Dean to take some time off or she may lose everything she has worked for.

House arrest.....

Briggs, a care free and charming fireman, did I mention he worked for Charlie's father, the fire Chief? He has a job, a job to look after the pretty little spitfire. This is a very emotional yet touching story of finding true love by just learning through our own consequences and making the right choices.

1 Cor 13:1-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love love love love loved. I love this author. That was the sweetest sadest most real book. I loved it. I loved Briggs I loved their nick names for each other. I loved the background stories I loved the flow of the story I loved that the romance was clean I just loved it. I want to give it 5 stars.... But...... I felt like this with the first book in this series, that I waited the WHOLE book to get the romance and then I didn't get it until like 95%.... A few more chapters would have made it better... But I just absolutely loved it. I can't wait for the next book!! I hope it's aout Briggs sister:) I want her and her son to get a happy ending. Love this author! Can't wait for October to fpread the next book!! 4.75 almost so close to 5 stars.

All She Wanted was truly a joy to read.
I first experienced Ms. Deese's writing with All For Anna, and I absolutely loved it.
All She Wanted centers on Briggs, a beloved character in All For Anna, and a new character Charlie.
As is Ms. Deese's style, it's a clean read, but not at all lacking in romance.
This book shows the true character of a good man who truly puts those he cares about above himself.
There is passion, respect, humility, angst, heartache, redemption, friendship, and most importantly love within the pages.
I cannot wait until the next installment of the Letting Go series.

This book is amazing, and if you don't read it you are truly missing out. This is the first book I have read by Nicole Deese, but she is going on my watch list. Briggs and Charlie are lovable characters. They get under your skin. You understand how they think, feel, and why they act the way they do. They are flawed but beautiful people, and you root for them. This book made me laugh out loud more times than I care to admit. It made me stop and think about the deeper things in my own life, and what is really important. Don't miss out on this amazing story!

Set in Texas, Briggs and Charlie are wonderful characters full of humor, fun and both with troubled backgrounds that they are working to learn to share and overcome as their romance develops. The switching from Charlie to Briggs's point of view with their thoughts about each other was a brilliant in developing both characters. The dialogue in person and the text was fun, witty and kept the story moving along. I like a good romance but love a good romance with strong characters, a great plot and a Christian outlook. All She Wanted was to be loved and Briggs was the perfect match for Charlie; he was patient enough to wait for her.

I had the privilege of reading this book before it was published. To say that I immediately fell in love with it, is putting it lightly. It is like being recharged and given a second chance at life, every time I read one of Nicole's books. I learn so much about myself through her characters and love the way the story develops between them. Charlie and Briggs are such real and honest characters that I connected to in such a personal way. I am an absolute fan of Nicole Deese and could not say enough about her books and what they mean to me!!

Loved it! I can't believe I hadn't discovered Nicole Deese before now! I've loved the characters in both books so far. Nicole has a special way of making her characters truly come to life. What a gifted author! It's hard to put into words just how she makes it happen, but she does. I am so drawn to their personalities! She makes them SO real that it's hard to believe they're not.
I'm currently reading the 3rd in the series, and I hope it's not the last. I hope you're busy writing something new as I type this Nicole Deese!

I read this book in one day as I just could not put it down. I found myself so engaged with the characters, their heartache and their triumph and loved getting to see the story of Briggs and Charlie play out. The interactions between all of the characters had me laughing out loud, smiling, and a little teary-eyed. I love the honesty and truth that the author weaves into each character and their story, and the hope that lives through it all. Great read!

Good books don't come easy, but this one was mind blowing! I would have read it all day, in one day if I could! The way the characters came to know each other from the previous book was a great way to continue the story. The author has a remarkable sense of how to explain love without being cheesy. She has an sneaky sense of humor that was more on the sarcastic side. There were surprising twists that only some could predict. I thoroughly loved it, and HIGHLY recommend it.

A really easy read, few bits I saw coming but liked the way the story was written to show how having a bad experience in life can cloud your judgement. Was nice to read the story from both sides in the separate Charlie/Briggs parts. Liked the way the story was brought together showing how when you don't feel loved you will sometimes settle for what you think is love not knowing if you have the courage to wait real love may just be waiting for you.

I was so glad to read Briggs and Charlie's story after reading All Who Dream. I wasn't disappointed. You have Charlie who is has to come to terms with/deal with the scars from her past and learning she has value and has worth and is worthy of love. Then Briggs who has to learn to let go of his past and who he was and realize he has a lot to offer. I would highly recommend each of the books in the "Letting Go" Series. They are all stand alones but they are all well worth the time
