Light and easy read. There's something to say about two imperfect people finding something special; however it would be nice if the virgin, obese, black woman didn't get the add-on after he was abandoned by all the skinny, beautiful white women.
(From the archives) I started writing reviews around 2020/2021, I am revisiting some books and writing reviews on books I missed. Redemption was written by S.C. Edward and published in 2013. It is no longer offered through Amazon, and I can’t find any other sites offering a copy. However, if you can find this book it is worth the read and the cover alone is glorious (IMO). The book is told mostly from the point of view of Mark. Mark has made mistakes in his life and is currently incarcerated but nearing the end of his time. He has made some positive connections and is offered a job upon his release. His life is on the uptick, he has a place to stay, a job, and a mostly positive outlook. What he doesn’t have is support from family and friends: his mother has passed away and the friends he thought he could count on never reached out. On his first day at work, he meets Michelle, she is assigned to help acclimate him to his new job. He is instantly besotted with this shy and warm-hearted beauty. But what does he have to offer her, and will his past actions hamper his path to love? Ms. Edward does not weigh down her story with needless complications, conflict does ensue, but she portrays this couple as sensible people with open communication. The love affair moved very briskly (Mark wasted little time), and I enjoyed their passionate connection. https://theretiredreader.com/f/redemp...
I liked the premise and message of the story, but the writing was a bit amateurish for my liking. Sometimes the exchanges between Mark and Michelle felt like they were teenagers talking to one another. I did enjoy the love scenes, but the writing style needs some work.
