Adelaide St. James is a Probation and Parole Officer with a hidden past and a strong will. Brad Fortune is a Homicide Detective who stands for the victims in every case that he works. When a violent murder has Adelaide and Brad crossing paths, Adelaide's past ends up front and center. Brad's focus becomes how to keep her safe as bodies start to pile up. Was someone trying to get Adelaide's attention with the murders? Brad must focus on the case and not his growing feelings for Adelaide, to make sure that she is not the final victim of what could be a serial killer. Can Adelaide set aside her past and accept help from a man she just met, but who dominates her thoughts? When Brad's partner finds evidence linking Adelaide to the crime, the case is turned on end. Will Adelaide survive long enough to clear her name?

I was all set to give this book a 4 star rating and then I got to what was supposed to be the end, and...TO BE CONTINUED! Oooh I hate serial books!!!!!!!! I felt robbed of a happy ending. I could and did look over the misspelled words, the bad grammar and all around poor editing because I liked the story. The hero (Brad Fortune), I had problems with even though I understood he had issues just like our heroine, Adelaide. If you read this story you'll understand. Eleanor Dineen will be a good writer if she finds herself an editor who won't let those avoidable mistakes show up in the finished product. Eleanor, I enjoyed your story but you have fallen into the current trend of keeping a reader anticipating what comes next. But some of us like to find fulfillment between the covers of a book. A beginning, a middle and an end. That defines a story to me. I'm not sure what these authors are thinking, or is it just greed. Okay, I'm through venting. Suffice it to say, I will not be reading another book about Brad and Adelaide. I just will not support the trend of serial books.
I was able to download the free version of this novel from Smashwords. The synopsis gives a good description of this novel so I won't reiterate it. While the story most definitely kept my interest and the pace was good I was a little disappointed with how the author had the two main characters romantically and sexually drawn to each other throughout the novel (albeit with neither character knowing that each was drawn to each other) like a roller coaster. The story was good, the writing was good but, at the end, it was left "To be continued..." sometime in early 2014. While the story has strong potential I am not sure I am ready at this time to continue on with the adventures of the two main characters (now as a couple in love but in different towns).
