“What do you choose?”
“Us,” she finally whispered. “I choose us, Callum.”
“Our future was on course for a path of twisted destruction, Callum. But we changed it. We chased the darkness away and we won,”
The end was so sweet, felt just right!

"Damn it, Charlie! Do not fucking do this to us! Don't give up on everything we had just because you're too stubborn to listen to the truth."
"I fucking love you! I want us to have our future together!"
"I'm warning you, Charlie. You know me well enough to know that I'm going to fight this until the bitter end. I love you too much to allow you to just walk out of my life."

Broken Truth is the debut book by Beth Ashworth.
This is a story about Charlie and Callum, their relationship, the love, and the lies. Mostly its about the lies. It's hard to discuss the book without giving everything away. Let's just say nothing is as it seems. Charlie and Callum have been together for 15 mos. They're living together and completely in love. Callum is a multimillionaire and owns his own company. Charlie is an up and coming fashion stylist. On the outside they both appear to have everything. Callum woks in London during the week only spending his weekends with Charlie. At first those arrangements were okay. That's until work phones calls started taking away Charlie's weekends too.
One surprise trip to London and all Callum's secrets come spilling out.
I wasn't at all surprised by the secret. I could smell it a mile away. Honestly the first 50 to say 75% of the book wasn't that exciting to me. There was lots of sex and not a lot of plot. I didn't think the characters personalities came through enough on the pages for me. There was angst and turmoil without much feeling.
In fact, it was about 75% in before I started to really get absorbed in the story. I kind of liked Charlie and Callum apart more than together. I actually thought Callum's heartbreak was more tangible than Charlies.
Eventually everything is revealed and there were a few shocking moments that in and of itself added a star rating for me. I was really digging how the author turned everything around, even if I was a bit confused.
I think that hardest part about this story for me was that Charlie was wishy washy. Meaning, one minute she loved Callum then she hated him, then she loved him, then thought about it again and decided on hate. It felt like she didn't have a coherent thought. Maybe that was on purpose but she ended up sounding dumb to me. I want you. I hate you. Don't leave me. Get out of my face. Charlie's father was said to have been an alcoholic. Her sister even accused her of drinking too much. Charlies claims that drinking wasn't an issue yet every time she turned around she was drinking wine or doing shots. I pretty sure she was drunk for 50% of the book.
Overall, I thought this was an okay read. I would have liked more connection to the characters. And characters more like Xavier who at least knew who he was and owned it.
