A solid exploration of how to tackle endurance sports but not in a traditional manner. Ben Greenfield should read this. :-)

Personally it was a lot of repeat material, but that doesn't mean it wasn't solid. Lots of pictures to demonstrate things too.

The skills part makes sense, but the programming section was quite light and didn't really reference the skills bit.

It's a good beginners guide into functional and endurance training combined. Reading reviews tells me people might have the impression that this is a end-all, be-all manual when it's more of a beginners guide and manual to resort back to before the internet become so rich with training as it is now. Not the greatest thing ever but awesome as a starting point to help people in need!

There probably are some more over-arching philosophical explorations such as how to implement the skill training into the CrossFit format and on and on but this isn't that book. If you need examples with pictures and someone fleshed out explanations that can get you so far through pictures and text boxes but it gets the job done! If you're competing in top-level competitions this might be basic to you but even then it's got something for everybody unless you have perfect understanding of many functional movements! But then why read anything anyhow?

I love the ideas presented in this book, and I will be looking to test them out.
I'm a powerlifting/ weightlifting type so I don't relate to how much this justifies doing crossfit (which is bastardization of barbell technique), but I will not be quick to dismiss the sensible things presented in here, which is very close to the way I think about modern powerlifting programming - technique first, then worry about overall volume and things like that later (much later).

Refreshing

Reading through this volume of knowledge for anyone to follow and literally begin to change their ways from meager to functioning athletically not just in a single sport arena but three to four.

Great read.

Love it

I love the PSE program. Although not as revolutionary as they think they are, they've put together an excellent program and I recommend this book.

Great book for CrossFit athlete that wants to improve endurance or vice versa.

In training, I have always liked going long for the mental aspect of it. Like Running more than 10k, rowing half marathons, and swimming more than 1k. I also love CrossFit. I have had this book on my to read list for a while, and after I signed up for CrossFit Endurance Trainer Seminar I gave it a shot. The course and this book, hook onto eachother very nicely. Even though this book is not new, most of its principles are valid and very applicable for any athlete.
What you will learn:
Pose Running techniques, drills and mindset, which "optimizes" your runnning
Bike techniques, and how you can think about biking
Swimming, drills and techniques for improving (or learning) how to swim.
Mobility as a skill, programming, fueling protocols and much more. This is not only for the CrossFit Athlete or Endurance athlete, it is for everyone. Anyone can learn from this book and it is very practical and easy to read. Brian Mackenzie has made a solid book that will help you improve your movements and positions for a long time to come!

If you read it - let me know what you think!

Very well written. The best part about this book I thought was the pictures of the "right" and "wrong" way. I found the basic premise pretty exciting, good performance with more intensive varied workouts taking less time; however while I agree that this method can get most people to a decent time for their chosen event I don't think it will take them to the next level. That being said it was worth checking out of the library (GO KITSAP REGIONAL LIBRARY) but don't think I would have been happy spending the $40 Barnes&Noble wanted for it.

I'm not sure how I"ll use the information from this book...but I think there are real plans for me to use in this. I don't think I"ll be running but maybe the cycling or mobility section.

Picked this one up because of the author's fame and because I wanted to improve my running technique. The advice in this book can be applied straight away and helped me to fix my oxygen usage.

Phenomenal guide to endurance training if you're not interested in losing all your muscle mass to "getting in the mileage". used a lot of this to train for a GoRuck. Really great.
