Washed: A Novel

Rate this book
"WASHED" is a beautiful love story set in London, England, about a single young Christian lady (Cherie Johnson), who at 28 is ready to settle down and wants to find a suitable marriage candidate. But Princess Cherie is not willing to kiss any frogs in her quest to find a Prince. Her best friend believes she has placed her bar way too high for mere mortals? Princess Cherie does not get too much time to worry about being lonely because she has other things on her mind - for one a deep desire to establish her true identity by tracing a deadbeat father she has never known and secondly a demanding career as the head of a successful artiste management company. When Cherie meets a handsome, successful and eligible young man (Gustave Allen), she believes that she may have struck gold. But the course of true love seldom runs smoothly, and Gustave comes with baggage attached, which some might say is payback for his past sins. Unbeknown to Cherie and to Gus, however, their promising future together is threatened by a powerful and deadly common enemy - one who will stop at nothing in a quest for revenge and destruction - one who wields a power so sinister it can only be challenged by tapping into a higher source. And many surprises come into play as the story takes unexpected twists and turns that will delight and intrigue the reader. "WASHED" has been hailed as a "best" read by some and as essential reading by others. It contains a good measure of romance, humour, suspense, betrayal - evil is demonstrated in its vilest form. It is highly spiritually and emotionally charged, presenting love in all its guises: pure love; unrequited love; unconditional love; conditional (feigned) love and powerful agape love that overcomes all - even the most despicable evil.

Eugenie Laverne Mitchell writes from the heart. The tales she skilfully weaves spring from a fertile imagination but are coloured by some vaguely similar life observations. She was motivated to start writing, in order to convey messages of hope, grace, truth and love with the aim that her work will in some way be a positive influence upon readers.

A born Storyteller, as a child her creative outlet was into poetry, most of which told short stories. When she became a teenager the poems graduated into songs. She still writes songs today and incorporates some of her song lyrics into her novels.

For example, "Prodigal Daughter" is a song featured in "Philanthropic Ways".

In her early twenties Eugenie began to receive inspiration to write a novel but was just too busy with life and so put off doing so until the compulsion became too strong to ignore and she began to write "WASHED" mostly on weekends and during holidays.

"WASHED" was finally published in 2012 - it has been very well received.

This review was taken from Amazon "WASHED" page:

This was an eloquent and very well written book, which I could hardly put down in a bid to finish it, as it's twists, turns and surprises constantly had me on the edge of my seat! It's been ages since I've had a book like this with it's very mysterious and ominous happenings and I think most people could enjoy this book as there's something in it for for a majority of people to identify with.
I can't wait for more to be published by this writer and I wait with baited breath for more riveting reads!

In Washed, we meet Cherie Johnson, a young Christian woman who lives a good, virtuous life, with just one regret: She has never met her biological father. Through the years, she has sought information from her mother, who harbored a great deal of hurt and bitterness toward her former lover and consequently, was never forthcoming. A covert act of malice by a former friend causes Cherie to meet Gus Allen--a handsome, successful man--under less than favorable circumstances. Their attraction toward one another is undeniable, yet, unbeknownst to them, their lives have been negatively influenced and their paths diverge. Gus, a decent but not very devout man, suffers a series of misfortunes before realizing that his life is missing spiritual guidance. He renews his faith and his life is forever changed. Cherie, whose faith is unwavering, may find what she's been searching for. But will her relationship with an old friend interfere with her hopes for a relationship with a new friend?

Eugenie Laverne Mitchell's writing is rich and beautiful as she introduces well-developed characters who are described with such detail and brilliance that they came to life within my mind. I could see and hear them interacting with one another as though I were watching a good movie. I greatly enjoyed how many of the characters would sometimes speak with a heavy Jamaican twang, with the dialogue written using Jamaican lingo, enabling me to effectively hear the accent. It added such depth to the story.

And bwoy (boy) what a story it was! There's so much going on--so many lives that cross paths and shape one another. With plenty of twists and surprises, it was hard to take a break from this engrossing book. I kept wanting to read on--to find out what would happen--while at the same time, I truly did not want the story to end.

Heartwarming and inspirational, Washed is a novel that will bring out the best in you and make you appreciate your life. It will leave you feeling blessed.

Ms. Mitchell is an amazing author whose zest for life and goodness shines through within the stories that she skillfully weaves. This is the second book that I've greatly enjoyed by this talented author. I can't wait for her next novel to be released.

This was a very well written book and I really enjoyed the ride. I must confess that I started this book last year, but wasn’t able to get into it because I was reading several other books.  The second time around was the charm for me because I promised the author that I would read it and write a review.

While reading this book, I felt the characters becoming more alive after each turning of the pages. It has romance, drama, evil spirits and most importantly, the love of God running all together to make up a great read for all. I highly recommend this book to all readers that’s looking for something different in Christian writing. Thank you Eugenie for being patient with me and may God continue to bless your writing.

Cherie Johnson well what can I say…the characters in this book are well developed. I don’t think I’ve read anything like this. This was my first romance-Christian fiction novel and I must say the message written was one of a kind. The Christian based tale is so remarkable with evil spirits, yet a breakthrough from a spiritual aspect. This is a great book for young adults or perhaps anyone giving the message. Based in England the young couple Cherie and Gus gave an interesting tale of suspense, love and romance. The unexpected turns at the end was one I wasn’t expecting but in all the events were real situations. This was very different for me, but in all this was a great and aspiring book!

I have received a copy of that book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

"Washed" is a well-written, quick but still thought-provoking read with well-developed characters that really pulls you in. I enjoyed a lot reading about Cherie and Gus, their lives, their friends and family. There's romance, family dramas and secrets, friendship, lots of twists and turns and so much happening that I could not stop reading. The characters are so well-written that they really come alive on the pages. Cherie is a person with strong moral values. I loved how she started each day with a motto for the day. And I absolutely loved Gus. He goes through a real transformation, from a man who is a kind but a directionless person, to somebody who discovers what really matters to him in life and follows that path.
Even though, "Washed" is Christian fiction, I believe that it can be enjoyed by anyone. I'm not religious myself but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

There is nothing lightweight about the themes in this story -- yet you feel the strength of power in the personalities in the characters.

I've a 'hunch' that 'power' comes from this new author herself!

Congrats on her first book!

Oh where to begin....

This was simply fantastic to read.I'll admit I not much of a romance reader. I've read a few in the Christian sector in the past and it's just not my thing however whilst browsing here and reading the synopsis I was intrigued to see what this was about, the sample on Kindle had me hook, line and sinker.
I had, no wait for it....needed to know what happened next.

This is SO much more than a romance novel. This is multi-faceted. Yes, you have a Christian romance and can I add it is beautifully written, up-to-date and interesting to read, not soppy or cringe-worthy.
The author handled many different storyline's about walks in life, situations and circumstances that gave realism to the book and I felt I had actually learnt something by the end and it gave me a lot of food for thought.

Although I know this is fiction, the realism is very well reflected in all the relationships that crossed over, clashed and integrated.
I could recognise the language that was used through my friendships, the areas in London and the Christian conversations and thoughts which were very well depicted.

I was genuinely scared of Tricia at one point[ a nemesis of sorts to the hero and heroine of the story.]
I assumed the way she would go and knew how I would be left feeling about her but to be honest my heart went out to her by the end of the story which again shows realism from the author.

The author was clever to leave you hanging until the last few chapters to see the outcome of the relationship [which was refreshing to read because it was not sleazy in the slightest:)]
I couldn't believe what the author was leaning towards in terms of the relationship and the possibility of the outcome of how the couple could be related, but its was well written out and explained, but I did hold my breath and shout at the kindle that this could not happen. Cherie and Gus need to be together!!! The kindle didn't respond.

The spiritual guidance in this book is brilliant. The author weaved very sensitively and non-judgementally Christian words, verses from the Bible and prayers which I found to be powerful to read and encouraging.
Personally I felt refreshed reading this book spiritually and would loved to have a friend like Cherie, however I might just become a bit of a fan of this author instead!

I would highly recommend this book for people of any ages to read as there is a good reflection of the young and the mature person, however, I think this would be super encouraging to late teens and those in their early twenties-I urge you to read this!
Also, this is a great book to seasoned Christians, new Christians and non-believers.

God bless the author, can't wait to read more.

This is my 2nd book read by this author, and it was a well written Christian novel that proved God will take care of you. Gus & Cherie were blessed souls despite what they experienced. Storyline with relevant scriptures & realistic characters. Good background information presented as the story came full circle. Very good read

This book was exhilarating from start to finish! I literally couldn't put it down as I became almost obsessed with finding out about the other woman and her spiritual powers. Definitely a must read that you'll find hard to put down.

From the synopsis, I believe this must be a must read book. Many of our youths are currently facing challenges that are similar to those highlighted in this book. Can't wait to grab my copy.

Disclaimer: I won this book from a goodreads giveaway.

This book was tedious to read due to it being overly descriptive and repetitively explaining characters in too much detail. Also some of the character development and relations felt more forced than natural.

Also it's very religiously inclined. Reading some chapters made me feel like I was back in Sunday school.

However I liked that the character perspectives changed and how intertwined the plot was. The ending was also satisfying!
