One with whom he'd like to share all the joys—and hidden pleasures—of the season.

Spending time with Nick and his warm, close-knit family, Carrie can't help but feel the very beginnings of that elusive Christmas spirit. She's falling in love with all of them…until an unexpected visitor arrives. It will take putting her trust in Nick—and all her newfound happiness—to overcome the ghosts of Christmases past.

Alison’s love of the romance genre goes all the way back to her high school years when she gobbled up every Harlequin novel she could get her hands on. Back then, she never dreamed of writing her own stories. But years later, her inner writer emerged and she’s now a multi-published author of contemporary romance.

When she’s not plotting her next book, she hangs out with her adorable rescue dog, Bailey, consumes more chocolate than she should, and spends time with her friends and family.

Carrie Jones is not a fan of Christmas and she tries to avoid it every year. One day a few weeks before Christmas she runs into Nick Johnson, her High School crush and the guy she tutored in Math. Nick is home for an extended visit and is determined to bring some Christmas cheer to Carrie's life.

This book is a nice warm story about two friends who lost touch getting reconnected. My favorite part, the slow progression of their romance. Yes both characters felt something but it took a while and a few dates for them to act on it. Carrie was rather apprehensive about this budding romance (as I can fully support). I appreciated how she slowly warmed to the idea of Christmas and was open to Nick's suggestions. Nick realized right away that he could build a life with Carrie and he wanted to bring a love of Christmas into her life. I enjoyed his love of his family and his character is one I would want as a friend in my real life.

I love to read Christmas themed romance books during December. This is a book that I can see myself reading again and again. It had a heart warming story and just enough steamy scenes without any major angst. An easy read that can be put down when life requires it, but a good enough story that makes you want to get back to it as soon as you can.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review.

The shining star of this trio is definitely Alison Packard’s A Christmas for Carrie. I loved this one to the point of internal reading war. You know the type-a story so good that half of you just wants to read faster so you can know the whole story while the other half wants to slow down and savor every word. In this one, Carrie’s the “Scrooge” who doesn’t enjoy celebrating the holidays and would rather hibernate from October to February, and for good reason. Since childhood Christmas was always a time of hardship and tragedy in her house. Enter Nick Johnson, her high school study buddy and one time crush who’s back in town to spend the holidays with his parents. I loved so much about these two and their story that it’s hard to pick out favorite details. They’re sweet, flirty, funny, the tension and build is just right, the sexytimes are whooo-boy-hot, and we get enough backstory to really feel like we know these two. I felt like the drama/conflict was completely realistic. It didn’t gloss over character flaws but instead showed us how two imperfect people can help each other grow and heal and love.

All in all, entirely satisfying and left me wanting to read more from Alison Packard.

A Christmas for Carrie was a heartwarming read, loved Carrie and Nick :)

Nick hasn't been home in a long time and is looking forward to spending the holidays with his family. After bumping into Carrie on his first day back he is pleasantly surprised to see her, he can't believe how beautiful she is. How did he miss this back in high school?
What else Nick missed was that Carrie had a huge crush on him.
Seeing Nick again brings back all the feelings Carrie had so when he asks her to go out she doesn't hesitate to say yes :)

Nick is so good for Carrie, after he learns about Carrie's past and how much she dislikes Christmas he makes it his mission to change her mind.

I loved how patient and caring Nick was with Carrie, he was getting her to smile and enjoy the Christmas tasks he sets out for her :)
But just as Carrie starts believing in the Christmas spirit someone from her past comes back and with them come all the bad memories that have haunted her all her life.

Carrie doesn't handle things well and Nick ends up getting his feelings hurt :(
With a few home truths that Nick gives Carrie she takes the steps to finally put to bed her past and to start living for the now and for the future, no more looking back.

This story will tug at your heart strings, it was a beautiful romance that left me with a full and happy heart.

Thank you NetGalley and Carina Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

great entertainment

Loved this story and how Alison made the characters seem so real. Not everyone enjoys the Christmas holidays and showing how we can let our past cloud our outlook today and the future made this a much more interesting story than just a typical romance.

I liked this an awful lot. I haven't seen it marked this way anywhere, but it's definitely part of the San Francisco Blaze series that Packard is writing, with the hero, Nick, being an agent to one of the pitchers on the team. I assume there's a chance we'll see him and his partner again in that capacity, or even hopefully otherwise. I would not mind a sports agent hero, just saying.

Anyway, Carrie hates Christmas because her dad was a drunk who always got worse around the holidays and eventually committed suicide on Christmas Eve and her mother who was also an alcoholic always got worse in response to her father getting worse. She doesn't actively hate Christmas, mind you, she just sort of retreats into herself during the month of December and doesn't partake in holiday rituals. She's not off murdering santas or anything.

Her high school crush, Nick, comes home to spend the month with his parents and partake in his favorite time of year. Carrie was his math tutor during high school and he was oblivious to her crush while nursing his own on a popular girl who never noticed he was alive. This wasn't really a huge part of the story for people concerned with pining, it just informs their history more than anything else. And as naturally happens in romance novels, they bump into each other at a coffee shop, he gets her number and they start to date.

And because Christmas is his favorite time of year, Nick wants it to be better for Carrie. He nudges her along this path sort of gently, always with the stated intention that he'll back off if she really doesn't want to be doing something, which I personally appreciated as a reader. Too often when these scrooge stories exist, it's all u rah rah christmas and anyone who doesn't like it is a complete monster, and as someone who isn't particularly a fan, it's a real turn off. As the novella progresses, Carrie gets more into the holidays and is on the brink of actually embracing them when her mother shows up on her doorstep.

This, naturally, is the wrench in the works, because all Carrie can see is that her mother is back to ruin the holidays for her again, which I felt was a pretty natural reaction. One good Christmas doesn't make up for a lifetime of terrible ones, you know? Her mother wants to explain what her father's history was with the holiday but Carrie refuses to hear it and kicks her out. When Nick comes back the next morning to take her tree shopping, Carrie's totally shut down and has retreated into her holidays are terrible mindset. Again, I thought this was a pretty natural reaction, but they have a fight about it where I thought they were equally nasty to each other, but Carrie ultimately ends up blaming herself more for it, which was my only significant problem with the novella. Nick's mother does get him to see that he has to try look at it from Carrie's POV too, but Carrie repeatedly calling herself a monster bugged me.

Anyway, blah blah, Carrie and her mom decide to try to work on their relationship, Nick and Carrie reconcile, and the epilogue ultimately ends with New Year's Eve ILY's and a hope that they'll be able to work towards a future that involves Carrie moving to San Francisco to be with him. Which, oh, was another thing I liked. Adults making adult decisions, yay, and no one giving up a life in a city. That made me happy.

tl;dr, if you want a good Christmas novella, I would recommend this one.

this was a great book. I have to warn all my friends. if you are not into the mushy romance book, then this book is not for you. there is a little bit of smut, but it takes awhile for the hot scene to get there.

Carrie did not like Christmas. in fact, right after Halloween she started to change her mood. She told her friends that she always had plans for all the holiday work parties. she didn't have to worry about family because her father was dead, and her mom moved to Florida and she hasn't spoken to her in a while.

Carrie had a huge crush on her high school friend. he tutored him in math, but he was always drooling over the pretty cheerleader who wouldn't give him the time of day. well, the one day she goes to work not wearing makeup and looking a little rough he decides to come back to town. he has a great job in California being a sports agent. he is all over the tv and was noticed to be a great bachelor. Nick Johnson was still looking just a good as he did when he was in high school.

nick had to see Carrie again. he loved how she filled out after all these years. he couldn't believe he didn't notice how pretty she was when they were in high school. he found out that she didn't like Christmas, and it was his goal for her to love it.

nick started a bet with Carrie about getting her to like Christmas. while he was taking her on all his family outings that was their routine for holiday season, their relationship started to bud. Carrie that her life couldn't get any better until her mother showed up.

Carrie is going to have to face her past, and deal with lose ends or she will lose nick forever. Nick also has to understand Carrie's past, and understand that everyone didn't have a good childhood like him.

Nick's previous high school crush will come back in the picture and give you the biggest laugh yet! all in all this was a great holiday book

I have to tell you I really enjoyed this book. At first I wasn’t sure. The synopsis sounded interesting but once you got into it and you see how much Carrie Jones hates Christmas and why it seemed a little depressing even with the sexy Nick Johnson thrown into the mix.
When Carrie says she hates Christmas she means everything…music, parties, decorations, lights, trees all of it. Then in the parking lot of Starbuck she runs into her high school all-time crush, Nick, her “Study Buddy” as he calls her. He says he thought of her often saying if it weren’t for he would not have made it to college or have the business of being a sports agent. In her head she is saying, “Yeah, Right!” She knows he was always crushing over a certain cheerleader who never knew he was alive because she thought he was a geek like her. But, now they are both swans.
Nick gets her number and says he will call her and wow he really does. One date leads to several since he is visiting his parents for a month. Nick makes a deal with her to allow him to help her change her mind about liking Christmas. Nick is so sweet and gentle with her they make a great couple. Sex is steamy when they finally get there so beware. What happens when Nick goes back to San Francisco and Carrie is left behind?
Read and find out. There are some heart breaking moments with her and her mom too. Where she tries to find out why Christmas’ were so bad. Why did you always ruin that holiday? I have to say it turned out to be a really good book. Provided by netgalley.com

I got a copy of this ebook from the publisher through netgalley in exchange of an honest review. All of the opinions are my own.

Carrie Jones cannot remember the last time she had enjoyed Christmas, but with the holidays on the horizon and with all the decorations and Christmas music out - can really make the girl run for the hills.

Until Nick Johnson shows up in town. Nick was a boy she tutored in high school and had the biggest crush now. Nick has not noticed her back then, but he sure has noticed Carrie Jones now. All grown up and beautiful, Nick cannot believe that he hadn't looked at the woman in front of him like that in high school. With Carries doom and gloom attitude towards Christmas, Nick wants to show her that there is a lot to Christmas if enjoyed with the right person. But learning that Carries father had committed suicide during Christmas bought in a whole different kind of challenge. With the sparks between them, Nick wants a lot more then just a few weeks with Carrie, his ready for a lifetime.

Another cute story. Quick read and I really enjoyed the characters. Nick and Carrie were cute. The chemistry between them was very apparent and did not feel forced. I thought it was sweet how Nick was trying to build all new memories for Carrie, as she never had a normal Christmas growing up. Which made me curious why, but the author did a great job explaining that at the end of the story. Especially with the rekindled relationship between Carrie and her mother.

Overall A Christmas for Carrie was a cute light, heartwarming read with steamy scenes.

I have loved everything I’ve read by Alison Packard. I especially enjoy how her stories, even this novella, are a part of the same world. I wasn’t expecting that with this story, so when the first familiar character was mentioned, I was surprised and excited. It made me feel comfortable with the story long before I really knew Nick and Carrie that well.

Nick has turned his love of sports into being a part of the sports world. He’s an agent for a couple of the San Francisco Blaze players that I first met in The Winning Season. Carrie is his high school study buddy. Their childhoods were miles apart, Nick’s happy and filled with love, Carrie’s was dark and sad. Because of her childhood Carrie hates Christmas, the music, the decorations, the feelings. Nick on the other hand loves Christmas and after running into Carrie for the first time in years, he decides that he is going to change Carrie’s mind about his beloved holiday.

This story was filled with some really great moments. Some were heartbreaking and made me feel so bad for Carrie. Others made me laugh out loud, like Nick’s uncle and someone from his past. I really would have loved more Nick and Carrie and I’m hoping that I’ll get more of them in future Alison Packard books.

This was a cute, quick holiday read. I've read one other of Alison Packard's books (The Winning Season) & I really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to this one. I really liked that both of the characters had been a bit nerdy in high school - neither one of them was part of the popular crowd. Even though Carrie had been Nick's tutor and she had an unrequited crush on him, he was suffering from an unrequited crush of his own. He wasn't the oh-so-handsome and popular boy who dated the head cheerleader and didn't notice Carrie until 15 years later after she's undergone a miraculous transformation (don't get me wrong - I love those stories too!).

The reasons for which Carrie does not like Christmas are completely understandable, but we get glimpses of what Carrie as a child wanted Christmas to be, so it's understandable why she falls rather easily for Nick's attempts to change her mind about the holiday.

A very cute story with likable characters. Definitely recommend for fans of holiday romances with a bit of the Scrooge element to them, and stories with high school crushes fulfilled.

Cute novella about a woman who doesn't care for Christmas because of her life growing up & a man who wants to show her how wonderful the season really is. Carrie grew up with alcoholic parents & her father's despise of Christmas because of his families history. Nick grew up in a loving family & Christmas was special to them. Carrie & Nick went to school together & Carrie had a huge crush on the boy & friend she used to tutor. Now 14yrs later they meet again when Nick comes home for Christmas & he challenges Carrie not to like Christmas. Nick & Carrie begin to realize that they might have something special together & Carrie finally starts to believe that Christmas isn't as bad as she remembers her mother comes back into her life & changes everything. Can Nick & Carrie get past the past? Can Carrie actually move on to live a normal life? Do Nick & Carrie have a chance at a relationship or is Carrie destined to be alone?

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

This was a fun, fast read.

Carrie Jones hates Christmas. And when you find out the reason you cant really blame her. She usually don't participate in Christmas at all.

Just when Carrie was expecting it, a past crush come for for the holidays. Nick Johnson, has come home to spend Christmas with his parents. He runs into Carrie and sparks fly. Carrie had a thing in high school for Nick but they were nothing more than friends.

Nick has lots of feelings now for Carrie and there is no denying them. When Nick learns of Carrie;s feelings for Christmas he makes it his mission to make her like Christmas. In the process, he ends up falling in love.

This was super cute book. Somethig to make everyone love Christmas and falling in love.

This was in interesting take on a "Scrooge" type story. It was funny how the woman was the one that didn't like Christmas. I liked Nick and Carrie together, loved that they had history and knew that high school was awkward. I did get tired of Carrie's bah humbug attitude, especially when she pitched a fit, even if she has reason to. I was glad that Carrie was able to resolved things and that things ended in a good way for her and Nick.

This book wasn't appealing to me. October is just beginning; I am excited about Halloween, not Christmas. So that might have induced me not to like this one very much.

The story is good, but cliché. The characters are a bit boring. But the author makes the story work, and the pace is fast and doesn't get tangled. There are some scenes pretty interesting, (look forward for his parents' party) and is sweet.

But I think I would have liked this one more had I read it in December.

3.5 stars! I really enjoyed the story for this, but sometimes it just got a little bit too cliché for me- and sometimes that's not bad, but in this, it kind of grated sometimes. Overall, though, I really liked it.

3.5/5, but rounding up. Mostly this was just a little fast with the resolution, even for a novella. Really enjoyable though, and I loved visiting the series from the perspective of an agent. That was great.

Very short.
Well written.
Would have loved to have a full book of these two characters and their issues/relationship.

As with most novellas, it was tied up too quickly and too neatly. But it was a tasty morsel of sugar and air indeed.

Soooo by-the-numbers. And it bugged me that the hero had no issues of his own to get over, except "forgiving" her for freaking out over her messed-up childhood.

Great story. a good introduction to the author if you have not read her previous books. I have read the others and love the tie in to some of the characters in a winning season.
