Author: Kelly Favor
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Title: Under His Command (For His Pleasure #17)
Synopsis: Taken from goodreads
For His Pleasure is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling series, and with each new book, the romance only gets hotter...
Twenty-two year old Kennedy Saunders is running away from her old life at MIT, and running towards a new life in New York City. A new life working for Red Jameson--and hopefully much more than that.
Because Kennedy isn't just some random girl trying to break into the advertising business. She's someone who has a connection to Red and Nicole, and she's determined to get closer to them, at any cost.
But Kennedy is shocked when, instead of working for Red Jameson, she finds herself at the beck and call of Red's new Chief Operating Officer, Easton Rather.
And Easton is not impressed with Kennedy's high IQ, her Ivy League background, or anything else. But he does want something from her. Something that might just cost Kennedy everything, and forces her to reveal secrets that will throw everyone's lives into chaos.
Characters: Let me be honest, I love all the characters of the For His Pleasure series but Easton and Kennedy could become my new favorites…mainly because of Easton and his very frustrating and confusing mind fucks.
Kennedy Sanders has both brains and beauty. She has a respectable Ivy League education from MIT and an off the charts IQ. She has run away from her predictable, boring life teaching at MIT and seeks out a career change in NYC…for secretive reasons we don’t yet understand. She makes the move to NYC with no definitive job or padded savings account.
Easton Rathers works for Red Jameson as his new COO (because of his job, both Red and Nicole will be involved in this continued storyline). Easton is a retired boxer with a ‘Dom’ persona. He fights his attraction to Kennedy but she seeks him out at one of his clubs. Kennedy impresses Easton with her submissiveness and hires her professionally, leaving the door open for a possible intimate relationship between the two.
The book focuses on the intense attraction between Kennedy and Easton. Kennedy’s neighbor also has his eyes on her. I see this becoming an issue in Book 18 and on.
Writing Style (POV): This book is written in Kennedy’s present day POV.
Background: This book was almost like an introduction book to two new characters with appearances by Red and Nicole. There are 16 prior books in the For His Pleasure series. In book 16 you think the series has come to a completion and then book 17 comes out. Of course I squealed a little bit because I love the characters in this series. I was lucky enough to find all 16 books once they were released so I didn’t have to wait for the next installment… now I’m not so lucky. Even if you haven’t read the 16 prior books in the series, book 17 will be a push in the direction of reading them. You’re introduced to how Kelly builds, builds, builds and then stops leaving you counting down the days to the next release. It’s sexual frustration at it’s finest.
I can’t really give much background here because the book is so short, I don’t want to give anything away!
Cliffhanger? HEA? Oh man. I literally cannot handle where this book ended. I need book 18. Like, need it. I’m so upset where this book ended. I was drawn in because this book made absolutely no sense at all. It was like play a romantic Clue…except no murder. Some people may hate that but let’s face it, if you can predict the book by Chapter 3 what is the point of the book? I’m hooked on this series. Kelly, please provide this junkie with her fix. Too far? Oh well.
Evaluation: I would recommend this series but I think $2.99 is a high price for 70 pages…I think the stories have gotten seemingly shorter since the first books of ‘For His Pleasure’, which is extremely disappointing since this series has substance to it. I give this book 4 stars just because I wish there was more to each installment.
