No one makes the long journey to Jupiter because they want to. They go because they need the work, or they have no choice. The Europan science base is just one of a hundred tiny little corporate outposts in orbit of the great planet, and no one ever thought it very important.
Until now.
Ada is a geologist come to Europa to escape a bad divorce, Shaun wants to find life on another planet, and Magda just hopes that the cult she escaped from as a child isn't coming after her. When their science team discovers signs of alien technology buried deep under the surface of Europa, their lives are forfeit, caught between the religious zealotry of the Eye, and the machinations of the company that controls Jupiter and all its moons. They have only one chance to survive: head beneath the icy surface of Europa, and discover the secrets hidden inside the Netherforge.
I am a big sci-fi nerd so when I was told about this book, I was super excited about it, and downloaded kindle for mac in order to read it (I'm not big on kindle overall, so that says it all for me). When I started reading, I knew it was worth it, and when my laptop broke half way through, I went through the hassle of arguing with my phone and downloading the kindle app on there too, just so I could finish it! In terms of plot and writing, it was very well written (not always the case with sci-fi writing- the science element tends to derail some writers, and I found the author not only handled it gracefully, but made it sound entirely plausible). The story was nicely paced- the resolution didn't seem forced or rushed, and I was gripped throughout. I found the characters relatable and just plain loveable- it was difficult for me to not get attached to them, and they won me over very quickly! Well rounded, each character was well fleshed out and I didn't feel like they were missing anything. Overall, I am extremely pleased I bought this book and I would recommend this to any sci-fi fan out there. :)
