Excellent variety with meals you actually want to eat. Great advice for healthy lifestyle as well! I'm very appreciative of that! I highly recommend Bobby Dean's Everyday Eats for those of us without time or money to spend on calories that aren't worth it.
Practical easy to make recipes All of the pictures of the recipes look appetizing Best recipe for meatloaf (and let me tell you so much more fun when they are all mini size - finally have use for those cupcake tins - yeah not much of a cupcake maker) The Lemony Greek soup is extremely filling and tasty The zucchini corn fritters are to die for - and I shared them with a lot of people too The Cajun Ratatouille is easy to make and delish - but I don't recommend reheating next day - it tasted kinda mushy Recipes are easy to read and nicely organized Good index Like the inclusion of the nutritional info Good idea at the end with suggested daily menu planning Great practical suggestions for when eating out Good selection of types of recipes - would have liked a few more desserts though DH mentioned that the posed photos made him want to toss him into his pool for being such a total poser Definitely regionally inspired - this can be a bit of hindrance when you live in Canada and items not easily available and if available are extremely expensive Nothing really unique - not a bad thing but not really inspiring
The Not So Good Stuff
Not enough pictures of the recipes - think each recipe should have a picture - trust me - you will sell more. Could have left out some of the pictures of Bobby Deen - I am sure he is lovely and all but when I buy a recipe book, I am interested in the food Most of the recipes will not appeal to those with kids I know this is picky but it doesn't sit well in a recipe holder - and I don't like to break the spine - so it is a bit irritating when trying to prepare stuff

I received this from Random House in exchange for an honest review
NY Times Best Selling Author, Television Chef and Restaurant Manager Bobby Dean presents a beautiful recipe book geared toward anyone interested in eating well, using food ingredients that are easily sourced or already in the kitchen and putting a new spin on chicken, salads, pork and seafood. My favorites would be: Italian Veggie Frittata, Spinach and Cheese-stuffed Pork chops, Mini Meat Loaves and Oven-Fried Chicken Po'Boy to name a few. Dean is the son of Paula Dean but don't hold that against him. He's taken a much different approach to cooking than his famous or infamous Mom. My prerequisite for a great cookbook is simple; the recipes need to be easy, the ingredients are ones I've heard of and pictures are a must. I think I read somewhere most people cycle 7-10 meals and it's necessary to reinvent them regularly. He also includes a section for the grill, deserts, pantry supplies, sample menu, index and acknowledgements.
Have always enjoyed watching Bobby's show on the Cooking Channel. So was excited that I found this at my local Winn Dixie for $3.00, along with From Mam's Table To Mine.
It's loaded with a bunch of excellent recipes, liked that it includes his favorites, a few family ones he tweaked making them healthy, excited to have several new Salad and Pork recipes to try. Going to try the 3 Bean and Kale Chili tomorrow, especially since Kale's a new favorite of mine and just sounded so yummy.
The cool thing with this is that I have the Betty Crocker 350 cookbook, after reading Bobby's. The two compliment each other, so glad that it doesn't duplicate and just adds more variety of good healthy eating.
The book lives up to its name, Everyday Eats. A healthy dinner on the table in 30 minutes or under? I'm in. I enjoyed the personal information in the book about Bobby's life and how it ties to the recipes. I tried the spicy coconut soup and curry recipe. They were good but lack a bit of flavor for my taste. I ended up adding some herbs and more spice. The main ingredient I missed in the book was a bit of soul. The Deen family is known for its ties to food and while the book was packed full of recipes I wanted to try, I felt the connection to the food was missing. Where is the love Bobby?
My liking of Bobby Deen is surpassed only by my hatred for Paula. I mean, he gets massive points just for not using that awful fake accent of hers. Add on that his recipes sound appealing and don't use 8 tubs of butter, and we have a winner.
Most of these recipes sound intensely amazing. I want to make all of the salad recipes, especially the bread and chicken one. Although the idea of grilled corn with pimiento cheese nearly put me off food for the rest of the day.
I would strongly consider buying his cookbooks. Very well put together.
Most of the meat dishes were pork chops. The dishes aren't meals that include starch meat and vegetables. I was expecting something more like betty Crocker 350 calorie cookbook.
