Ethan Cole would be much easier to ignore if he stopped saving Olivia Hawthorn’s life. She’s known him since they were kids, but Ethan has always been painfully shy and kept to himself. Suddenly, he’s emerged from the shadows to protect Olivia from a malevolent, supernatural presence — something that thirsts for her blood.
Olivia craves answers and the only one who seems to have them is Ethan himself. He doesn’t want to talk about what’s happening, but Olivia refuses to accept defeat. Who is Ethan? And what secrets is he keeping behind those hypnotic copper-colored eyes?

Really enjoyed it! Loved the romance. Always happy when there isn't a triangle. I can't believe I didn't see a certain something coming but then later I saw the twist coming. I didn't realize this would be about vampires but it was a different take that was interesting.
It is about time I check out the work of Michelle Rowen (aka Morgan Rhodes, aka writer of falling kingdoms series which I am in love with)..
And this one didn't disappoint..
Echoes revolves around Olivia Hawthorne, a high school student who is targeted by the Upyri (i hope i spelled it right) which is another type of vampires that inhibits the bodies of the dead. But with every attack, Ethan Cole is there to stop them despite their nonexistant history as schoolmates and neighbours. What's more to this Ethan? And what is his link to what's happening to her?
I loved this book. Everything was done really well.. The mystery, the character relationship deelopment, the pace, the end.. It was all perfect for a stand-alone book that normally takes loads of pages.
The mythology in Echoes is explained simply and in a consistent way. Characters were really interesting and likable (especially Cole *sigh*)
His relationship with Olivia wasn't all easy which made it the more appealing to me. Olivia's developement was great too, eve though there was no evidence
Overall, great story and I am so glad it wrapped up nicely and I don't have to wait for a sequel.
I'm so glad I read this book! It only took me most the day, but I just couldn't put it down! Now, I was very prepared to be let down as I always seem to be lately when I pick a book that sounds like a dozen other books that I have read previously. NOT THIS ONE!!! So now I'm going to go gif crazy and just show my reaction because I think that's super fun!
When I first started and it seemed like it was going to be another boring book about teenagers falling into an irresistible love.
But then I got into it and TOTALLY starting falling in love with Ethan myself.
But then...he's not Ethan at all...except he is? OMFG I love him even more and I am super upset by what Olivia does to him!! But then Olivia has to find out about her Mother and it just hurts me!!
Then I got through the rest of the book and I was like THIS IS AMAZING!!!
It's my second book of Rowen Michelle, I must say she is really good. I am still waiting for the second book of Ghost Encounter. I can never forget that book, it make me cry so much. Anyway, this one is about vampires, in this case, they are called Upryi, they are sort of wraiths that inhabit people's bodies. It was quite interesting and what i did love about it, is the personality and character of the female protagonist. She is not whiny, sure she did made bad decision about her so call best friend and artificial boyfriend and her embarrassment about her scar. Apart from those, she is resilient, she wants to know what's happening and is willing to do anything to end the threat about her life, even if its mean imprisoning the Upryi that she might fall in love with, who is the male protagonist. Ethan Cole!
It was sad to know what the real Ethan went through, a total social recluse but am also glad that the Upryi took his body and accept the echoes of Ethan's love for Olivia. The flow of the story was captivating and without nonsense details. I love that it was a standalone novel, because I don't think I would want to wait like am doing for the Ghost Encounter book 2.
I really liked the book and can't wait to read more from Rowen Michelle.
****A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review****
I have never read a YA before so when reading this book I had no idea when I was going to read. I must say, I really enjoyed reading Ethan and Olivia’s story.
Ethan and Olivia have known each other since they were children so they have this Rappaport which is great. It’s put together with this supernatural paranormal twist which I totally loved. There were twists and turns that kept me on my toes which I didn’t expect to see in a YA book and I very much liked it.
I also liked that this book did take time to talk about issues teenagers face in today’s world & it was done in such a way that I know my nieces and my son wouldn’t cringe while reading it, that they would take heart and remember. The writing was done to where when reading, it was written with a deft hand. I very much appreciated the author's subtle approach.
Ethan and Olivia definitely made this book- He was looking for her; Olivia knew she needed Ethan -the story was so intertwined with many layers that I loved finding out everything. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, the background –everything wrapped in this story kept me entertained. I highly recommend this story. I would say teenagers AND adults would really enjoy reading this YA story.
The story evolves on wraiths, which are called Upryi—another kind of vampires. They take over human bodies—who have just died recently…like a minute or so--as their shells in order to survive on earth. Their human forms can be killed but not their spirits. They just move on to another body if their shell is perished. Of course, blood is also their main sustenance. However, they are stronger if their shells are revenants. Olivia—the female protagonist—is being hunted by the Queen of Damned (is what I call her). Ethan Cole—the male protagonist—will give all his best to protect her. I like how the twists and mysteries are unraveled. This is actually an easy read for me. The wordings are really in the level of young adults…meaning, you don’t have to constantly seeking for dictionary to look up terms that are not used on the streets daily. Some passages are repetitious, but a minor flaw that can be ignored. With my great reading experience here, I am beginning to like the stand alone novel better than series now. At least, I don’t have to wait another year to find out the ending. :0}
I was anticipating this novel from the first press release in January. I did like the story overall. I hesitate to call it a book though. (this seems to be a trend now, longer stories but shorter than a novel). I really think that it would have been even better overall with more detailed character development and a longer story. It ended and I thought "now what?". It was a great start to a novel, but not a complete one.
Great story! I'm happy that the hero isn't a popular guy or the handsome guy in school. Olivia, the heroine, is the opposite of him in social status. I am very happy for her during the near end of the book that she finally has the courage to be honest with herself towards the people she cares!
