Acclaimed comics-world talent Lark Pien offers a companion book to Long Tail Kitty with five new adventures featuring the eponymous feline and his whimsical gang of animal pals. Inter-friendship rivalries, woes, and jealousies fuel these gently humorous tales of the wise-beyond-his-furry-years Long Tail Kitty.
More like 2 1/2. The illustrations were charming and that is the only thing that saved this book from being a no for me. The stories all started out wonderfully, with a good premise, but they rambled on past even my tolerance as an adult. The age group this is targeted for is going to get either lost, or bored, or both, and stop being interested. The stories need to be cut by about 50% in length. I was approved for this eARC on Edelweiss in return for an honest review. I will not be giving this a full blog review because it is less than four stars.
This was fun for a short read. It was in 2-page-spread layout, though, so I had to turn my tablet sideways to read it. -------------------- Some friends sneak onto a "magic" boat together, and have lots of fun.
More stories of friendship between Long Tail Kitty and an elephant, a robot, and introducing the adorable Tony. Lark Pien has created a darling world, here.
Long tail kitty is the name of a small kitten that goes on adventures with his animal friends. In five different graphic novel style stories the reader joins Long Tail Kitty and his friends as they learned about working together as a team, adventures, jealousy, and being alone. The friends also learned about friendship, scary feelings, and troubles.
The illustrator used a simple and yet detailed cartoon style to capture the reader's attention while reading the captions. This book is more difficult for parents to read aloud to children, but would work well for reluctant readers who need more pictures than words. Each story is separated so the reader can put the book aside and pick up again later. Teachers will enjoy sharing this with young readers who enjoy cartoon style reading. Children will enjoy the antics of kitty and his friends as they learn from their experiences and enjoy the fun of friendship.
I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.
A collection of five short stories about Long Tail Kitty and his animal friends. These are day to day stories about life and friendship. The art is stylistic and cute in a way that doesn't appeal to me. I didn't really find the stories funny nor were they particularly exciting. Ho hum, maybe cat lovers will like more than me.
Aww, I love LTK. Such adorable art and the color palette is pleasing. And it's slightly weird but also accurately reflects the emotions of both kids and new adults sometimes (huh.) The original never circed very well for our library -maybe because of the colors some kids think it's more of a picture book than a graphic novel? I dunno. I could see kids who like Ariol digging this, too.
These stories are cute and fun, but I felt as if Pien - without being pedantic - may have missed some opportunities with some of these tales of friendship.
