*I gave this audiobook an A for both the story and narration at AudioGals*

*This is the conclusion of a series that must be read in order. The review below may contain spoilers for prior books. If you have not yet listened to the Seven Series see the AudioGals review for book 1, Seven Years.

The seventh and final book in the Seven series is as dramatic, adventurous, and romantic as each every one of the books that preceded it, plus more. What a fitting conclusion to one of my all-time favorite urban fantasy, shifter-based romances! Bringing together all of the main characters from the prior books, and even some of the secondary characters that we were introduced to along the way (vampires, relics and mages), Ms. Dark concludes this fantastic series with one dangerous and potentially revolutionary threat and fight, as well as a glimpse of what the future is to bring. In One Second, we also find out several more background-revealing secrets and get to see the coupling of two of the last remaining single Weston pack members.

One Second is the final installment in the Seven series by Dannika Dark.

I was really hoping that this book will also be about Ben’s journey into coming back home, sadly he had just a few scenes especially their reunion.

I also somehow predicted that William and Trevor will end up together, I just wished that they had more scenes and to see their love blossom.

The waiting period for the Notherners to attack and the time in the woods were dragged out. I was really anticipating for more actions scenes but got disappointed when most that happened were just talking and hiking. Dont get wrong I like the ending, just didnt like the other stuff..

I enjoyed the conclusion of the story and I love that all the breeds fought together. I’m really for happy Reno and April all the other couples in the series. Would’ve love to see what will happen to Lakota and Melody.

Overall the series was easy to read and entertaining. I love the loyalty and the family dynamics. Let’s hope for the next generation’s series. Henrix, Lennon, Lakota, Melody, Hope & Travis 👍🏻👍🏻

One Second is the seventh and final installment in Dannika Dark's paranormal/shifter romance titled Seven. Each book in this series focuses on a different romance while continuing an ongoing story for the shifter pack. Very fittingly, Ms. Dark closes the series out with the same couple that she started with: Lexi and Austin. Their romance is far from over as evidenced by their intimate and selfless bond. All of the characters make memorable appearances at some point during this final book which helped me gain some closure and say goodbye. I should note though that One Second felt very long. I listened to the audiobook version which was a little over thirteen hours - this isn't an excessive length at all but my personal reading experience sure seemed to go on and on for some reason. Once the suspense element was added near the end I had no problem though. Overall, I liked One Second and would without a doubt recommend it to any readers who have been following this series. Enjoy!

Every time I think Dannika Dark has outdone herself, she does it again! This last book in the Seven Series won't be out for awhile, but let me tell you, if you've been following the adventures of the Weston Pack for awhile now, you will LOVE this ending. ;-) Honestly, I think it's the best book in the series.

Can't wait to see it again once it's been lovingly edited and tightened up. Bravo, Dannika!!

One Second is the conclusion of Dannika Dark’s Seven Series and it brings us back to the original couple…Lexi and Austin.

Faced with a rouge army larger than they ever imagined, a pregnant Lexi and Austin will have to risk it all to survive. If you know anything about Weston pack, you know there really is no chance that they and their pack won’t be facing it together but the big question…will it be enough.

A conclusion to a beloved series, always invokes mixed feelings, especially if it comes from Ms. Dark. She definitely pulled out all the stops to give us all we could want and more by providing storytelling at its best. The past character interactions, the steamy romantic interactions and what ifs and maybes that will plaque you long after your through.

Bottom line - If you are fan, you won’t want to miss One Second.

I received this ARC copy of One Second in exchange for a honest review.

One Second was a beautiful, tense and very fast-paced and dangerous ending to the Seven Series.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

A lot of smaller plot-points from the prior books in the Seven series came together in One Second, and for most of the time, the action was tense and made me feel an undercurrent of danger for my favorite shifters. Lexi was very unsure of herself at the beginning, and it all had to do with her wanting a baby, but being afraid of having to live through another miscarriage. When Austin showed her that he was all in, however, she was ready to give it her all.

Things started out nicely enough with Austin and Lexi renting a cabin in Colorado, Reno and April, as well as Ivy and Lorenzo in neighbouring cabins. Quickly, though, they were summoned to a meeting in which they learned about Norther rogues on the warpath. It seemed that these Northerners were on their way to Texas, and that a huge war was on the horizon.

One of the things I love about this series is the Weston pack! So open-minded, both when it comes to other kinds of shifters than wolves, and other breeds, as well as pack-members sexuality. They really are one big family, and they are loyal to the core! They would all die for each other, and that's a great advantage when it comes to fighting an enemy who has taken individuals into a somewhat organized army, but where there is no common goal.

The story in One Second unfolds several years after Two Minutes, children have grown into strong teenagers, and the adult relationships have evolved as well. Lexi and Austin have matured, too, however, their love, teasing and sexiness is still as strong as ever. I always enjoy reading about couples that stay together when they get their happily ever after at the beginning of a series. Dealing with other kinds of problems than 'does he like me?' and cementing their love and commitment by fighting outside forces always makes me swoon.

Of course, there are fights in One Second! With the war, and some very dubious outsiders in the mix, some of the fights are very dirty. There were many OMG moments for me, where I cried as characters I have loved over the span of the series got the bad part in a battle, and were left reduced.

If you're a fan of shifters and other paranormal creatures, One Second is a must read! Some characters from the Mageri series were in the outskirts of the storyline here, and I just loved how Dark brought her two somewhat separate universes together. I cannot wait to see what she'll come up with next!

Written mostly in first person point of view and from Lexi's perspective, there are some third person point of view seen through Austin's eyes as well. The story unfolds in past tense, and the dialogues truly make the characters' personalities shine.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The couples faced each other, with Reno and Lorenzo on my left. Lorenzo and Austin had been talking about the size of their land, which in Shifter speak was the equivalent of comparing penis sizes. Apparently, Lorenzo had a bigger penis, so Austin was thinking about expanding his own girth.

No matter how many years we'd been together, Austin always seduced me as if we'd never been intimate before. He looked at me with all that newness and desire as if he were seeing, tasting, and feeling me for the first time. He had a predatory look that made him appear wild and dangerous, one that sent shills across my skin.

I used to curse all the bad things that had happened to me in life, thinking they were punishments. I didn't realize that each tragedy and stroke of bad luck was simply a stepping-stone to the life I was meant to live, toward the people I would cherish forever.

Annd it's over! ONE SECOND by Dannika Dark is the final book in the Seven series. Narrated by Nichole Poole, ONE SECOND took us back to Lexi and Austin's story while giving us a suspenseful, heart-stopping tale as the Weston pack and others find themselves on the brink of war. Dark delivered everything a fan could hope for as she wrapped up this series.

I devoured ONE SECOND from the threat to the sweet, crazy, heartbreaking and tender moments between Lexi and Austin. It was one hell of a ride, filled with humor, touching reunions, surprises and lots of twists. For me, it was the best book of the series.

Dark takes us into Lexi and Austin's marriage sharing fears and disappointments as these two faced their problems head on. We get to spend time at a lodge in Colorado, where Austin and others learn first hand of the dangers from the north. Rogue wolves lead by a leader who has ties to one in the Weston pack attempt to seize land and slaughter packs to claim territories. The tale was tightly woven and kept me on edge even as Dark rewarded fans of the series to answers, surprise revelations, transformations and more!

I swooned, laughed, cried and sat dropped jawed in disbelief. I loved listening to every moment. Nicole Poole has done such a fantastic job with this series. While I am sad it is over, I do plan to listen to the novellas CHARMED and WINTER MOON but more importantly, I have purchased the first two audios in Dannika Dark's Mageri series and cannot wait to begin! (RabidReads.com)With this book, Dannika Dark’s Seven Series has come to an end. And for me, several days later, I am still in the middle of a book hangover from reading it. It’s one of those series that you never want to see end.

The Seven Series is the story of Austin Cole, his brothers, and their Weston Pack of werewolves. It’s a fairly small pack, but it’s a mostly happy pack-that is, until outsiders start trouble. At this point, it’s been fifteen years since the first book began with Austin and Lexi. And as we started with that couple, we also end with that couple, which I thought was very fitting.

This book begins with the Weston Pack on the verge of war with rogue wolves from the Northern states. All the characters from previous books are back for this installment, and by that I mean even characters that I thought we would never see again. When all the pack is together, it’s heartwarming to see the love between the brothers, mates, and others important to the pack. Dark’s characters are all fully realized and the reader comes away feeling like they have just spent time with old friends. In addition to packmaster Austin and his mate Lexi, there’s biker private detective/bounty hunter, Reno, and his human mate April, jokester Denny, and his mate Maizy, local musician Jericho, and his mate Izzy, tortured and tatted Wheeler and his mate, panther Naya, and his black sheep twin brother, Ben. The two wolves not part of the family, Trevor and William are wonderful peripheral characters and are also the “will they or won’t they get together” characters of this series. Neighboring packmasters, Lorenzo Church and his mate Ivy, and Prince, are also featured.

Beyond having likable and non-cookie cutter characters, each of these books involves a good romance. These are pretty sensual at times, but I wouldn’t consider them erotica. Not once have I been bored reading these books, rather, I am immediately drawn in and love every minute.

War, the shifter way, was completely different than what I could ever imagine. It ended up being filled with suspense, and edge of your seat action, combined with a big dose of violence. The author threw in even more problems on top of the war, making this the most exciting book of all of this series, for me. Since there’s quite a bit of action in the previous books, that’s saying a lot. The way this part of the story was plotted was nothing short of amazing. I could easily picture it all, the atmosphere, the rogue wolves, all the tactical planning of how a small pack could take on an organized group of wolves numbering maybe as many as ten times or more the number of wolves in the Weston pack. But, that being said, the book isn’t just about the war.

While I am sad to say goodbye to these characters, I also know that the author is going to be writing in the same Breed world for her next project, as she also did with her Mageri Series. She keeps expanding on the intricate Breed world building with each series. I look forward to seeing what she has up her sleeve for her next project, and more importantly, what supernatural character is up next.

This was the perfect book for a last one in this series, and the author lovingly wrapped it up for all her readers to enjoy. With hundreds of different shifter series to choose from, only a few make my standout list, and for me, this is at the top of that list. Highly recommended to adult paranormal romance readers, and urban fantasy fans might enjoy this as well.
I received a copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Holy SMOKES! This book was AWESOME! I have read it once before but I can’t believe I forgot some pretty key things!!

I am over the moon about a lot of them, April omg .. Reno <3 My favorite couple. Swoon the hand touch was so very sweet.
Lakota.. well now I want to know more about this fella now that he is of age! I mean who is he going to end up with? Melody & Hope I loved them in this book.

Shocking things happen to the packs but a lot of teamwork. It was so action packed it was awesome!

I loved the survival instinct and if when you think someone is too young they can surprise you. Melody and the twins were a prime example of that in this book.

I loved Denny, even more, he was the comic relieve when needed and so was Izzy her wolf loves to pee on people I loved it.

And the Lexi and Austin parts well they broke my heart and mended them. I felt like Lexi really is a grown up in this book. Whereas I thought she was more childish in her book. Years have passed since her book so it’s only natural that this happened. I like her better in this book.

I am sad the series is done but I love that when I need a Seven Series fix I can just relisten. And I still have the novella :)

Nicole Poole makes these audiobooks so worth the credits so worth your time. She brings the characters to life I believe the exact way they were written. I am a fan, and you will be too.

Solid 4.5/5…. Even on reread!
I thought this was FABULOUS! I'm a little biased as I have listened to the whole "Seven" series via Audible & Nicole Poole does an astounding job being these characters to life! Perhaps that influences my enjoyment too much; I don't THINK so, but whatever. ;) the stories have all been wonderful & it breaks my heart, truly, to see this series come to an end. I laughed, i filled with anxiety, I cheered and I cried. What a great culmination to a beloved and memorable series that will be high on my "top favorites" list for years to come & will always be in my heart.
I look forward to ANYTHING Dannika Dark does next!

Good ending to the series overall. I loved the fact that Trevor got his own HEA. It was great seeing where everyone is so many years later than when the series started, but this one didn't take place much later than Two Minutes. I loved hearing about Lakota and his adoptive family from the Mageri series, even though it was from a distance. Jericho and Izzy are still my favorites and I still never warmed up to Naya, Prince, or April. I always loved Wheeler and Ivy, though.I can't wait to see glimpses of others in the following series. There were some unexpected twists in this novel, and I'm glad the author still surprises me so far into this universe.

What a great conclusion to this series. I had many things figured out from the beginning of this book and one thing from a couple books back that came to light. I was thrilled about that one. I'm sad that this series is over but there is potential for a spin off series with the kids. I'm thinking Lakota and Melody. Just saying...

I'm sad that One Second is the last book in the Seven series by Dannika Dark. I wasn't sure how I felt about the last book in the series being about the first couple, Lexi, and Austin. I mean they had their story in Seven Years but One Second really is a book about the whole pack. Loose ends get tied up and we get to see most of the past characters. It was like a "where are they now" story with Lexi and Austin being featured more than the others. Dannika did a time jump between Three Hours and Two Minutes aging the pack's children, giving them bigger roles.

One Second give us another, smaller time jump from the beginning of the book to the middle of the book where Lexi is very pregnant and having to deal with the war that's been brewing between packs and rogue shifters over the last few years. Lexi and Austin have been through hell with several miscarriages over the years. They kept them secret from the rest of the pack. Lexi kept the last one from Austin, fearing that he would leave her if she couldn't give him children. So when she gets pregnant again she's afraid of the outcome.

One Second is full of tension, love, laughter and a few tears. I don't think that Dannika Dark could have wrapped up her Seven series any better. I'll miss hearing Nicole Poole bring these lovable characters to life. It was a pure joy listening to Nicole tell these chapters in the Weston Pack's lives and I'm sure the Seven series is one that I will revisit in the future. My only complaint is that one couple didn't get their old book or novella, but at least they got a HEA in One Second.

Now that I'm finished with this series I'm off to start the Mageri series written by Dannika Dark and narrated by Nicole Poole. I'm sure it will be another amazing series.

One Second (Seven #7) by Dannika Dark One Second by Dannika Dark is a worthy conclusion to the Seven Series.  I am always sad when a series that I truly enjoyed comes to an end; that holds true for Seven.  Lexi and Austin are put to the test when The Northerners plot to take over Weston pack land.  The local packs need to work together save their land and lives.

I like that the series began with Austin's and Lexi's story in book one, Seven Years, and ends with book seven, One Second, with the couple telling the story from both their POV.  I love that the characters from the previous books were included.  I also appreciated that unexpected characters that we thought were gone reappeared for this story.  Judas was an interesting opponent and addition to the story.  I like how the Weston pack does not discriminate.  I loved the humor and the action.

Dannika Dark did an incredible job with her character development.  We have seen a lot of growth throughout this series.  There were a lot of interesting alliances that came together to help the pack.  The plot had great twists.  It was full of unforeseen occurrences.  Everything is well described and easy to visualize.  I absolutely loved the ending.  It made the series feel well concluded.  I wouldn’t mind a spin off series with the next generation of the Weston Pack. This is a terrific series that I enjoyed so much I would reread it.  I would love to see the Seven Series turn into a TV series or movie.

Mini-Review:

3.5 Stars

The first and last book of the series were the more interesting books. There are lots of little things that I really enjoyed. Potential for really cool world building and character growth. But the thing that holds me back from loving the series is how easy it is to follow the book while I am busy doing other stuff. Each time I let myself listen to the story without other activities, I got grumpy because of details or scenes that just did not work for me. Almost everything I like about the series gets trashed if I let myself pay full attention to it.

If you want a light, urban fantasy with HEA romance, this is it. The Weston pack are passionate, rowdy, mortal and strong as a family. You will get to know them fairly well as the series progresses and maybe hooked to read the other books the author has written in this world. It is not complex plot. No real mystery here. But there are loads of likable characters and a neat little world.

It definitely fulfilled the fluffy romance spot.

I can't stand that it is ending.

I will never find a series that I love as much. I hate that it has come to an end. These characters have become part of my life and I will miss them dearly. To Miss Dark thank you for giving us such a wonderful adventure. I loved every second of the ride. If another book with these guys comes to mind we would love it as much. Thank you for your work.

Great

As usual Dannika delivers in this book as well. The war and the unexpected friends helping the Weston pack to keep their land is nail baiting and the usual humour just makes it this bit better.

Amazing end to this series! Review to come!

Update 5/11/16:

“Sometimes ordinary people are destined for extraordinary lives.

This book deserves all the stars! The Seven series has always been one of my favorite series, with each book better than the last. But One Second truly outshines every other book as it is easily the best in the series! I purposely read this slower than normal because I never wanted the story to end. The Weston pack has had a special place in my heart for so long now, and I just never wanted to let their story be officially over. However, it is, but have no doubts that Dannika Dark delivers an excellent, fast-paced story that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

“If you keep thinking ahead, you’ll never appreciate what’s in front of your face. We have more time together; that’s all that counts.”

This novel goes back to the beginning with one of our favorite couples, Lexi and Austin. Told mainly from Lexi's POV, we see a stronger alpha female than the very first time we were introduced to Lexi. Sure, she grew with every book, but I loved being able to read from her perspective again to see just how much she has matured and developed into this amazingly strong woman. Nevertheless, Lexi is still a bit unsure of herself due to events we learned in previous books. Obviously, Lexi was extremely affected by her previous miscarriages, but I really appreciated that despite the fears she had, when Austin said he was all in, Lexi was willing to give pregnancy another shot. Her character has always been very realistic and relatable to me, but I felt that we were reminded of how human Lexi still is. And to me, this isn't a bad thing. Lexi's humanity was one of the aspects of her character that I loved. I also loved how much Lexi stepped it up and was that alpha female in this book. With a war brewing and then coming to fruition, she realized that she needed to find her courage and fight for everything and everyone she holds most dear.

“Family isn’t who you share blood with but who will bleed for you. It’s the people who love you through your tragedies and stick around.”

Another part of this book (and series in general) that I enjoyed is the small moments with the Weston pack outside of all the chaos and war. This is where the beauty of Dannika Dark's writing lies, as she reminds the readers that even though there is craziness (and let's face it, some pretty bad luck) surrounding the Weston pack, they are still a close-knit family that cares about each other. They're incredibly open-minded and as loyal as can be. While reading, you can't help but want to be apart of their pack/family. The entire pack would easily die for each other and respect each other in ways that other packs don't. Most importantly though, regardless of what might have happened in the past, if they need each other, everyone (and I do mean everyone) will come together and unite against the common enemy.

"I used to curse all the bad things that had happened to me in life, thinking they were punishments. I didn't realize that each tragedy and stroke of bad luck was simply a stepping-stone to the life I was meant to live, toward the people I would cherish forever."

A lot of little plot lines that you didn't think had much significance played a major role in this story. I loved that Dannika Dark brought all of these little things back, and didn't just "forget" about them like some authors do. It shows that every aspect of the story is important to her, while also showing how much she cares for her characters and telling their story. This made for some very action-packed and extraordinarily tense scenes, but it was oh so good! I was on the edge of my seat, not knowing what direction the story was going to take, and who would make it out alive. There were many moments where I was left with my mouth hanging open because of the twists and turns that Dannika Dark introduced.

I highly recommend reading this book if you are a fan of the series. The finale certainly won't disappoint, and as soon as you're done reading, you'll want to go back and read the entire series all over again! Thank you Dannika Dark for giving us this amazing series, and I can't wait to see what you write next!

Happy reading :)

Holy wow! What an incredible ending for this series. I'm sad it's over but also thrilled with how things wrapped up.

One Second was the epic ending I was anticipating. I don't think Dark could have done any better with ending this series. I've loved every installment and to have this final one focus on the couple it all started with was perfect.

Lexi and Austin are once again the focus, and I was thrilled. Their love has only grown stronger as has their pack. Facing normal obstacles - growing their pack businesses and their family - would be enough for any alpha couple. Facing a possible war - what they've been worrying about for years - might push them over the edge.

Besides having a story revolving around Lexi and Austin, Dark delivered on elements I adore in this series:

~ suspense so nerve-wracking I hated not being able to listen constantly
~ pack dynamics via all the Cole brothers, their families, pack members as well as other Shifter packs interacting
~ an exciting story
~ parallels between Shifter society, other Breed, etc., and society around the world today. I believe I've said before that I appreciate Dark drawing comparisons between how Shifters, etc., were treated historically and currently to how prejudice and bigotry affect our society.

Nicole Poole once again delighted me with her narration. Her distinct character voices and ability to keep the pacing perfect as well as convey every emotion has made her one of my favorite narrators.

One Second was everything I was hoping it'd be and more. Dark is absolutely one of my favorite authors and I look forward to more from this world.
