So, I didn't really care for the first book in this series, but I like to submit myself to torture and couldn't stop reading this series (yet). So, this book gets 2 stars because once again, train wreck I couldn't look away from.
This book continues with the crazy that is Sean and Scarlet, but you get a bit more Courtland (whom I love) and Ryan (whom I love) and Janice (whom I love). They are the voice of reason and sanity in an otherwise very toxic and unhealthy situation. Seriously, Sean and Scarlet need to just move on and get over their crazy little selves.
This book shows you more of the childish, selfish, and unbelivable fantasy world that Scarlet lives in. She is so immune to anything other than what is affecting her, it's like she is living in a bubble of her own crazy.
I didn't find Sean so bad in this book. Yes, he went off the deep end and while I don't think losing Scarlet was worth what he did, I can understand how he got there with the games Penelope was playing. He didn't drive me quite as crazy.
Oh, and the I Love You's. For the love of pete, I think every other sentence in this book is a mushy I love you that has to be repeated 9 million times. I get it, they are in love. I don't need the constant smushy love fest.
But ya know what, I totally picked up the third book because I can't stop myself. It is like a bad habit to watch this crazy train wreck. *sigh*
Life and love just aren’t going to be easy for Scarlet. She and Sean seem solid, but long distance romance is not easy, promises are made, but are too easily broken. Will Penelope find a way to burst Scarlet’s happy bubble once again or will it become a wakeup call for Scarlet to move on and make her own mark in the world of romance? Will the voices of reason on the west coast outshout that haunting call from back East? Love makes us do crazy things, for a woman as giving as Scarlet, her actions appear to go beyond crazy and straight into “Are you out of your ever-loving mind?” Hop aboard the Love Train with Scarlet, and hope the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t the lights of an oncoming engine.
Forever and Always by E.L. Todd is about the love one woman has for her best friend and her capacity to forgive or not as she is repeatedly put in a position that would drive a lesser person to do great bodily harm. E.L. Todd isn’t trying to say this is a healthy relationship, she is telling a tale of the pitfalls and joys of love, and giving for one woman who just can’t say no and refuses to see the bad side of anyone. Scarlet makes foolish decisions in the name of “helping” others. Sometimes they blossom, sometimes they implode, as Scarlet becomes the poster child for impulses gone wild. Ms. Todd completely involves her readers with her storytelling, even if one’s reaction isn’t positive to the events playing out, she manages to evoke strong opinions in this world of her making. THAT is good writing! People are talking about this series after having read it, THAT is good writing, especially when polar opposite opinions are expressed and the reasons are backed up.
Get ready for a journey that is sure to strike a chord with readers, flat or sharp, we all want to know what happens next!

"Forever and Always" starts exactly where "Only for You" left off. I love the banter between Cortland and Ryan and how they all pick on Scarlet. I was laughing so hard I was in tears most of the time. This one really made me smile. As much as I smiled, this book also broke my heart. Sean and Scarlet finally seemed to have their happily ever after, until a single knock on Sean's door tore it all apart. My heart broke for Sean and I sympathized with Scarlet. This book takes you through the high's and love and finding how to forgive the one's you love. Is love really enough in the end, or will Sean and Scarlet never get their happy ending? Cortland and Ryan also start their own journey's with love and I could not have been happier for them! When I read this series I seriously feel like I am a part of the character's lives and I honestly cannot book these books down! I do not want to ruin anything so I don't want to say too much. Just know this book is an easy 5 stars and I cannot wait for more!!
I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.
ARC kindly provided to my by the author for my honest review. Thank You Ms. Todd.
3.5 to 4 Stars!
I really like this story a lot. This book starts off where the first book ends. Scarlett is a very strong, sassy, likeable heroine. In the first book and throughout most of this book, Sean is a weak, stupid jerk and I really did not care for him. But when he reached an all time low, with the help of Scarlet, he grew stronger and redeemable. In my eyes, he fully redeemed himself by the end of the book.
There were definitely 5 star sections in this book, but there were also slow and repetitive sections. Parts that flowed wonderfully and parts that needed editing. It's still a great plot and I admire Ms. Todd doing so well with her debut books.
This book has erotica, angst and a happy ending. I plan on reading the last book in the trilogy and hope Scarlet and Sean's relationship grows and Sean remains the Hero that Scarlet deserves.

This review does have some spoilers
After really enjoying “Only for You” I immediately started “Forever and Always”. This book takes up right where the last one left off, It is quite a bit shorter and I read it in one day. I was definitely ready to see these two have a chance at real happiness, and I got to see that if even for a short amount of time. But all too quickly things take a turn for the worst! Sean finds out that Penelope is pregnant with his baby and makes the decision to take her back and yet again break poor Scarlet’s heart! This is where I was official done with Sean! I’m sorry but this guy is pissing me off!
He goes back to Seattle to break the news to Scarlet and she is justifiably upset and pissed! She tells him she never wants to see him again.
I thought, OK time to move on, maybe she will end up with Cortland? Unfortunately this did not happen. Scarlet tries to get on with her life in Seattle, while the government is threatening to sue her for not paying off her student loans. Meanwhile in New York , Sean realizes he has made a big mistake. He finds out that Penelope’s baby is not his and she is only using him for financial support. This is after he has had sex with her multiple times all the while still in love with Scarlet.
I really liked the relationship between Ryan and Janice and I always enjoy Cortland. At one point in the story Sean, after realizing he has lost everything sinks into a depression and starts drinking and abusing prescription drugs. Scarlet helps him through this hard time and sticks to her guns, keeping their relationship strictly platonic. Sean eventually ends up moving to Seattle to try and win back Scarlet but she is having nothing of it and I don’t blame her one bit! In the end Sean helps her out with her financial and legal issue without her knowing and when she finds out she ultimately forgives him for everything. I think the hard part of this for me was that I would have never forgiven him. I don’t think he redeemed himself and he just came off as an asshole in my mind, I didn’t want Scarlet to take him back and that kind of ruined the story for me. I enjoyed everything else about this book but I wish Scarlet had ended up with Cortland.
Second book in this very good series. This time Scarlet is doing much better, she's starting to make something of her life. She loves her brother Ryan and is enjoying regaining their closeness as brother and sister. She is very good friends with Cortland her brothers best friend. Sean is still in New York but when he turns up in Seattle Scarlet is over the moon. There's still the problem of them being based so far from each other, but they are both willing to work it out. Sean will visit Scarlet each weekend. Staying in New York during the week.
But then an old problem rears it's ugly head. Sean feels honour bound to do the right thing, but in the process breaking Scarlet's heart. But things are not what they seem, Sean discovers a secret. But it's too late Scarlet has hardened her heart against him.
This second book is a quicker read than the first book. But it's still just as good, Scarlet is a great heroine, as in she means what she says, she's strong and determined. Good looks and a whole lot of charm do not work on her, what she wants is trust and honesty. Once again Sean disappointed me in this, but I did start to feel a bit sorry for him. I'm just not overly confident that he won't mess up. There's a new romance interest for a Ryan, I'm sure the author will give us more on that in the following books. This is a very good read, well written with engaging characters. I look forward to the next book. Which I hope won't be too long coming. ARC courtesy of the author
If you like an easy / light read, you might like this.
I like the first book, but to be honest, the more I read about the characters in this book, the more I find them to be shallow. Not just the characters but the story itself.
I guess the story lacks complexity and depth. And yeah I've had enough of "Mega shakes " it's been mentioned a lot of times on book one yet it's not the end of it coz it's mentioned a lot in this book too.
I'm glad that this book is not a cliffhanger, otherwise I would have to read the third book because I don't have plans to continue reading after this.
I really enjoyed the 1st book in this series, Only for You, enough to buy the 2nd and 3rd books. I'm afraid I really didn't like the direction book 2 took. I feel Scarlet did the right thing by moving to Seattle but I was actually hoping she would find love with Cortland and not get back with Sean. In this book Sean start becoming a whimpy pussy. I find it hard to believe anyone would pick him over Cortland. Seriously?
They spend the beginning of the book attempting to reconnect and getting the approval of her family and friends only to have it ripped away in two seconds?
Far too much drama. Reads like an episode of 90210.
Also, what functioning adult leaves the woman he supposedly loves to take care of a pregnant woman he hates when all he plans on doing is drinking himself to death?
Really enjoyed part 2 in the series as it had more drama and grit than the first. For me, a good novel is one I have a strong reaction to and there were points in this novel where I wanted to scream at certain characters.
Seriously could they get any more pathetic. I mean seriously why can't they just get their acts together. I read it because I wanted to get it finished to see what happened next then I found out there was another one.
I have officially become an E.L. Todd fan!!! I have loved these books! Scar and Sean have the best kind if love, friends first no matter what. Through thick and thin, the good the bad and the ugly they support each other.
I really enjoyed Scarlet and Sewn story and it was heartbreaking to read that is was over between them. You could just feel the emotions from them and it just tugged at your heart because you know they belong together. Amazing series and I think it ended exactly how it should have
Book Two takes up where Book One leaves off. Scarlet and Sean are together, and she is on a high with the perfect relationship with her best (male) friend Sean. That is, until Sean returns to New York and finds out that Penelope is 4 weeks pregnant. It's his child even though they haven't been together for months based on the time-frame of the first book. Sean chooses Penelope and his baby over Scarlet, and the roller coaster of emotions begins again. Did I mention that this book is as overly full of drama as the first one?
Sean goes into a deep funk, practically killing himself over losing Scarlet, who nurses back to health while badmouthing poor, pregnant Penelope who sits around doing nothing. Not to spoil the story, but the rest is drama, followed by more drama, especially until Penelope is thrown over once Sean realizes it isn't his baby (Big Surprise!), but will he and Scarlet get back together? He's still her best friend, but she's pissed about his actions with Penelope and Janice, but has forgiven Janice for cheating on her with Sean because Janice and Ryan are a thing now. Once again, drama, drama, drama. And once again, it is hard to like these characters. And what will happen IF Sean finds out about Cortland's and Scarlet's brief sexual encounter while she was hating on Sean because of Janice and took off for Seattle (see Book One)?
Repeating: Thoughts on the three books in the boxed set from this reader is that this brilliant Harvard grad (or it may be the author herself) doesn't know grammar and makes so many typos and errors that it's frustrating. Some examples, the past tense of lie is LAY, not lied (unless you are telling a fib); when using the objective pronoun it should be Ryan and ME, not I and Ryan. Lots of sex scenes (okay, moaning and moments of orgasm), and What-the-tuck trends (green eyed character, pencil skirts, tucking incidents). Another irritating thing is how women are often called bitch and whore if Scarlet, Ryan, or Sean deem it so, as in flirting with someone. Actually, there are few really likable main characters as they tend to go for outrageous, extremes emotions (did I ever mention over-the-top drama?).
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a tough series to read, constantly finding my heart racing and on the edge of my seat!? These two have been through it all and their relationship has been tested over and over. How much betrayal can one endure and just how many times can one forgive? Sean and Scarlett started out as friends, onto lovers and into a heap of highs and lows!? These two truly couldn't have struggled more, their story ripping my heart out and I couldn't imagine having to be in their shoes and endure what these two have been through. Highly recommended read & author!!
“You are practically trying to rape me while I’m trying to respect you.”
“I practically had to rape you last time. And it was amazing, so amazing that haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I want to do it again.”
“Now that you’re moving in, he’ll put out,” he said. “Don’t worry about it.” “He better,” I said. “Otherwise I’m going to rape him.” Cortland laughed. “I don’t think it’s possible for you to rape anyone.”
Nope! I won't even try to finish the series. Too much of him being stupid with his choices and her just accepting everything and giving chance after chance. The dialog was painful.
These books are kind of cringe worthy, but here I am, about to start the 3rd book. They are predictable and the love scenes are terrible. It’s not really like the books people!
The flawed characters continue in this sequel to Only For You. I wrote in my first review about Scarlet's lack of action. In this one we get to see in more detail how Sean likes to make himself a perpetual victim.
And before I dive into that can I just say: how ironic is it that a book about a copy editor isn't perfectly edited? In all three of these that I've read there are sentences with random words missing. I'd read through something a half dozen times and finally establish that there *must* have been an "I" or an "an" or a "the" intended in that sentence because as written is just doesn't make sense. I'm just saying.
Okay, back to Sean:
In the end what kept me reading was the same thing as the first book: the over arcing story line and the minor characters (mainly Ryan and Cortland). I'm glad EL Todd wrapped it up in a pretty bow; I didn't feel like anything was overtly un-resolved .
I realize there are additional books in this story line. I even considered getting the next one, but then I saw that there are 5 more and they're $5 each. I don't mind spending $5-10 on a good, well written, substantial book. But it took me, like, a day to read each of these. And as I mentioned above they're not especially well edited and the characters are so hard to relate to... I'm grateful that this book wrapped everything up so cleanly. If these were $0.99 or even $1.99 I'd probably buy them and keep reading (for similar length and genre I'll even admit to spending $3 or $4 a piece for a good cliffhanger), but at that price it's definitely not worth it to me to continue to be frustrated with the main characters.
Forever and Always starts right where Only For You (Book 1 in the series) ends, with Sean in Seattle for Scarlet. He makes it known right away that he wants her to come back to New York City with him and that tears Scarlet up. Her relationship with her brother is repaired and she doesn't want to let that go and is afraid that it will become strained if she does.
After Scar and Sean discuss it, they head back to the apartment she shares with her brother and he settles in in the living room. Scarlet wants to make up by going to bed right away, but they go out for a drink instead and then spend the next day playing basketball with Ryan and Cortlandt before the two of them go back to the apartment and he finally gives in and they sleep together.
She takes him to the airport the next day, both of them not wanting to be apart, but they had come to a compromise that they'd try long distance until Scarlet could make up her mind.
Within a few days of being back in New York City, Ryan gets the shock of his life when his ex show's up, says she's carrying his child and wants another chance. Well, because Ryan doesn't want his child to grow up in a broken home, he believes he's doing the right thing by moving her into his apartment. He flies out that weekend to Seattle to break the news to Scarlet and she immediately throws him out of the apartment.
Scarlet allows herself a little while to cry before cleaning up and heading over to Cortlandt's to see her brother and Cordlandt, determined not to go into a depression.
Within a short time and with the help of his co-worker, Brian, Sean realizes that he's not in love with Penolope and tells her she has a month to move out. He then goes into a depression with pills and alcohol.
Meanwhile, Janice shows up in Seattle to see Scarlet and to make amends and then tells her what Sean did to their boss, Carl, and how she's been paying the price ever since. Scarlet and Janice, with the help of Cortlandt and Ryan, come up with a plan to bring Carl down. They head back to NYC the next day and carry out the plan that weekend.
After carrying out the plan, they're at a hot dog vendor when Sean's friend, Brian, recognizes Scarlet and tells her that Ryan hasn't been seen or heard from in a week and that he's been fired from his job. He then tells her of the Penelope news.
Scarlet is torn about what to do. She still loves Sean and will never forgive herself if something happens to him. Ryan encourages her to go to him.
She gets Sean back on his feet and heads home after getting Janice to move to Seattle and work with her in her Editing Company.
Once she's home, the government comes calling with a court date for her student loans and that sends her reeling.
Meanwhile, Sean moves to Seattle to fight for her, for them. Janice has moved in with her and her brother and the inheritance comes into play.
But when Scarlet finds out Sean has moved to Seattle, she wants no part of him and tells him as much very publicly, shortly afterwards, she learns the truth about what he did to help her and Ryan.
She asks him to meet to thank him and after he leaves, she goes after him...
I'm not going to tell you the rest... You gotta read it!
