Loving this series now! I recommend that you read the first Manga -first, as there is no 'what happened last' recap at all. There is a bit more plot with the Teigu's, which are artifact that make the wielder stronger. The rumor is that if two Teigu's face off against each other in battle, one has to win, and the other has to lose.
In the beginning - Akame and Tatsumi go in a mission together, and the Second mission is with Mine. However, the end does take a really sour turn here, as we lose on of the hero's. I'm starting to think that the Night Raid team are not the characters that are developing - rather is just keeps going back into their back story snippets at a time.
I'm consistently impressed by the way this manga handles the harsh realities of killing for a living - this is no lighthearted romp and it never lets you forget it.
A Teigo user is on the loose murdering people in the street and Night Raid is called to action to handle the situation. With 48 such items of power (as far as I know) from the old days it is important to gather as many as one can to upset the power balance between rebels and the royalty which believe themselves not only better then commoners but have the right to do whatever hey please to those beneath them. Be sure to check out the fight between Executioner Zanku and the stoic Akame/Tatsumi team up. :)
Tatsumi must say goodbye to his past and yet we get more insight into Sheele's past as she trains Tatsumi. Also in this book we get to see scary sadist ladies, monstrous mutant mutts, and how being a hero does not mean you are going to come out on top at the end of the day.
My favorite part of the book would have to be how Zanku tried to stop Akame in her tracks by casting an illusion of her sister over him self and almost getting murdered by the normally effective technique. :)
In my original review, I said that this series is fun, if a little stereotypical for an action anime like this.
But those stereotypes are now it’s strengths, sometimes you need a little of this in your life. For example at the beginning, when the protagonist asks who their target is, mine makes a stereotype rich anime girl comment about how she can’t believe he’s never heard of him. Normally I would roll my eyes at that, but hey, for some reason it sat well.
Also I did not expect for them to kill off a character I unfortunately got attached to this early.
Oh yea also 4.5🌟

Better than volume one. There's more about the characters and world, better action, and a much more interesting story. Looks like it could become a good series.
Damn it hurts 3 It's not my favourite volume, but it introduces a lot of elements for what's coming, in particular the Imperial Arms, which I still love the concept of It's starting to get serious with Esdeath returning, starting now, my heart won't be spared T_T
Tatsumi is still fighting in Night Raid, continuing on from Volume 1. This volume starts with a new perspective-Zanku the Executioner. The beginning of this book gives you insight into who her really is. Then it goes to Tatsumi, how he is being told that there are many murders going on and that it may be due to Zanku. The book then escalates to Tatsumi's and Arame's confrontation with Zanku. Read this book to find out who wins!
The artistic style is the same as Volume 1. It's traditional Japanese manga style. It features panels of black and white illustrations and some dialogue.
The character Mine, has changed a lot in this book. In the first book, readers learn why she is so self absorbed. In this volume, readers learn that it is all an act and that she really does care about people. I like how the author develops all his characters. You really feel like you know them. It's very satisfying to know that Mine changes, because she was so annoying in the first book. She becomes an actual character in this volume.
I recommend this book to everyone who liked the first volume. You really can't stop reading a book series you like, and I like this series. It is a series you really can't put down. The plot is developing more, the characters are developing more, the action is getting more exciting-you really have to read this book.
I knew what was going to happen yet it still hurts my heart. I love all the characters so much, why am I torturing myself by reading the manga when I know what happens?!
Red Eyes Sword, (tome 2/15)| Takahiro Tetsuya & Tashiro| 192 pages |Kurokawa | 13/11/2014 (FR) | 4.12/5 (26 notes ! ) …

I loved the fact that we are able to get to know Akame a bit more since the very beginning of this volume. Can we also take a few minutes to appreciate Schere’s fight against gender-based violence and her compassionate attitude towards Tatsumi? And what about Lionelle saving exploited sex workers? I also loved gaining more insight into the way their power works. Teigus were such a cool concept.
This was such a gripping, action-packed volume! I just loved everything about the drawing of fight scenes. That said, the ending was absolutely heartbreaking, not to mention the last few panels. It looks like politics are going to play a major role in the next few volumes -and honestly? I am looking forward to seeing how it goes.
……………………………………………………………………………………...
I wish that we could have had more time with Sheele, but I suppose that is extremely reminiscent of how our characters might be feeling beyond their rage. Akame ga Kill does very well at getting the reader to feel but without emotionally tiring them from too much stimulus. The story is packed full of action, fun, and badassery, but we’re also given plot developments that pack punches half as hard as teigu users. The art is fantastic, the battle dialogue and main lines are actually very cool even after this manga has aged somewhat, and character design is great. Esdeath’s design in particular is incredible and I crave more and more of her. Every time she appears, she commands the room, and she’s never seen as anything less than what she presents. She’s a massive sadist with immense power (and sex appeal). Her design is also incredible and I shiver at the hope of seeing more of her.
Backstories are also compelling and give us just enough attachment to care. And villains are interesting, especially Seryu. But she doesn’t pose long-term potential. I hope to see her die at the Night Raid’s hands next time she engages in battle.
Lastly, I was happy to see a brief collaboration short with the Dusk Maiden of Amnesia (a favorite of mine for a year or so, back in time).

Weirdly enough the second volume provides the reader with much more information than the first volume. Not only do we get introduced to the concept of teigus and the golden rule, that if two wielders of teigu meet in battle only one of them will survive, but we also get a glimpse into the back stories of Akame, Leone and Sheele. I do genuinely really like how they handle Tatsumi's grief as well, how his anger turns into his desperate search to bring his friends back to life and eventually to his acceptance that all he can to is avenge them and carry their legacy. It also introduces two of the most hated people in the series, Seryu and Esdeath. Despite having watched the anime multiple times, reading their scenes made my skin itch, I hate them so much.
Another excellent entry in the series that finds the Night Raid informing Tatsumi about Teigu, mythical weapons whose recovery is part of their missions, as they set out on new targets to take down. Takahiro keeps the story action packed and fun but also a bit more serious, as not everyone makes it to the end of this book, while the government starts to show shades of gray (one official appears to actually being trying to do their job). It's match perfectly by Tetsuya Tashiro's kinetic art, delivering some killer but violent action sequences. Still one of the more fun mangas in recent years.
It's just more of the same albeit with a step-up of the writing and a nice battle scene that closes it out. I didn't vibe with the first one so unsurprisingly I don't vibe with this one as much. The ending was better and felt more like Takahiro found his groove but its been two volumes so I don't wanna read more. The power system gets explained a bit here and I won’t lie they have some neat powers. They're a bit all over the place with powers but its fitting for such an anachronistic series and they play into it in the battles. But the first villain’s Teigu is kinda dumb. It has five special “senses” but each is so stupidly powerful they only reveal 4 and only 2 matter (they introduce x-ray vision as a sense for two panels just to undress Akame and others ew).
General series thoughts: Mixed bag to the max. I find the overall conflict, including some of the harsh realities of the battles, extremely compelling. But I do feel the series goes too far in the graphic nature of some things that boil down to being there simply to show someone's a bad guy. The art is striking in parts and hard to follow in others. Attached to the characters and completely hooked into reading to see where it all goes, but on the other hand it is a rough read.
Book 2 is much better than book 1. This book goes into more details about the “Teigus” which I think are the coolest part of the Akame ga Kill world.
There’s a lot more character development than in book one.
This book is pretty well covered in the show! The only detail I notice that was different was that in this book they explain who the guy licking Esdeath’s boot is and in the anime they don’t give that explanation. Otherwise these chapters are pretty well covered in the show.
Nothing really changed from the first volume in so far as my skimming and the comic is concerned. Plot-wise if you're invested in the story and characters then volume 2 might win your heart over. It gave me a pause. It's likely unfair of me to skim, but I've been holding onto these for quite some time and I'm in the process of cleaning out more of my books.
I'm weedin` em out. Slashed through it like a contract killer demonstrating the basics of CQC.
With really good fights, new powers and I shocking twist, this volume packed a punch! I’m really loving this series and the fact that the battles take up the latter half of the volume more so they can focus on character development earlier on and really get us familiar with dynamics and powers that have been show cased. This is a series I really honestly have high hopes for as I love the art work and narrative.
