Man, are there a lot of dismemberments in this series, or what? The accumulation of them is beginning to have an effect on my psyche :). Another solid episode with a good mix of action, humor, and character development. Stylish was so over the top and a lot of fun because of it, but he was beginning to wear on me halfway through the volume so I was glad to see him go. and holy $%#! that special arc at the end was brutal. Sheesh. I'm honestly not a fan of making the bad guys even badder so seeing them get destroyed is even more satisfying. I've almost reached the end of my willingness/ability to see violence against helpless women depicted in fiction, so I was a little disappointed by it in this series.
Dr. Stylish of the Jaegers has discovered the Night Raid base of operations and stands ready to prove the superiority of his personal squad just as Tatsumi returns to the base after escaping the loving capture of Esdeath. With the assault in action Night Raid must band together as the cohesive team they are even though they are short of members thanks to recent losses. However as overwhelming odds seem to drive the team to an unavoidable fate the sudden return of Najenda brings hope. Night Raid is about to enter a new chapter in their lives seeing as their old base is compromised.
To see all the action for yourself (and the amusing interactions between the characters) I would suggest reading this volume unless you are somehow offended by strong language, death, and/or violence which are all staples of this series. There is also occasionally a subtle sexuality to the series that might offend some such as the Special Arc at the end of the book showing 3 girls from the country suffering inhuman treatment as we are reminded once more why Night Raid must rebel against those that control the county.
My fave part of the book would have to be Tatsumi sneaking into the springs with Incursio while new member Chelsea is supposed to be bathing so he can surprise her with a bucket on the head (Mime doesn't like her and wants to teach her a lesson.) The exchange between them gives us more insight on Chelsea's past as well as a humorous lesson for Tatsumi who should not be sneaking as such. :)
The Jaegers's Mr. Stylish attacks Night Raid's camp in the night. One adversary wielding Sheece's weapon. The gang unify their efforts and with the addition of two new members, Susano and Chelsea, the obliterate their attackers.
This book starts with Tatsumi having a welcome home party because he got away from the Jaegers. However, Dr. Stylish followed him, and tried to take out Night Raid. Night Raid, (who got 2 new members in the middle of this book), managed to kill the follower. After this, Mine and Lubbo, have a hard time accepting these new members. Everyone else accepts them right away. Mine finds them annoying and Lubbo feels he is being replaced by a new member.
The artwork is again, traditional manga. It is black and white with panels and the illustrations tell a major part of the story.
At the beginning of this series, Tatsumi was over confident, and had trouble holding his own. He relied on the members of Night Raid. Now he is more reliable. He can hold his own. He has become very smart, and can fight WITH the members of Night Raid. He has grown into the role of assassin.
Here’s to my hands-down favourite volume up until now.
I loved seeing Raba use his wired Teigu -we did not get much of that in previous volumes. Mein has also had her moment in the spotlight both gaining Schere’s Teigu back and being openly jealous of Chelsea (I loved having her and Suu join Night Raid). This new member seems to have a very unique personality; you either like her or you don’t. The way she was introduced into the story was also quite different since we got to know way more about her past than we did with other members’. I am genuinely excited about her development as a character in the upcoming volumes.
In addition to that, I have also enjoyed Tatsumi’s attitude towards Suu. He treated him as a human-being rather than a Teigu, which was honestly the way I had always perceived Suu anyway. I need to mention how great the fight scenes against Dr. Stylish were as well. I am seriously considering watching the anime just because of that.
Finally… oh, that ending. I can definitely see an even more action-packed volume coming up, as well as a switch of scenery (I would LOVE to see the capital once again).
Five stars -and an extra one just out of pure enjoyment.
…………………………………………………………………………....………………
Salut mes poussins Phoenix ! Beaucoup de références (Hit-man, Dragon Ball, Narcisse). Phoenix ++
General series thoughts: Mixed bag to the max. I find the overall conflict, including some of the harsh realities of the battles, extremely compelling. But I do feel the series goes too far in the graphic nature of some things that boil down to being there simply to show someone's a bad guy. The art is striking in parts and hard to follow in others. Attached to the characters and completely hooked into reading to see where it all goes, but on the other hand it is a rough read.
When I thought that Leone had died I was yelling for the authors to be strung up 😂. The battle with Dr. Stylish was well pretty stylish. He was definitely one of my favorite characters from the opposing side. Nice to get some new characters to fill the ranks. The little end story was incredibly tragic. The people in the capital are so debauched.
I really liked this volume! There was funny moments and realllyyy good fights! The special arc at the end was so freakin heartbreaking and then i was dying from laughing because of the bonus collab chapter-
I enjoyed this but I recommend that you stop at p166 where the main story ends. It’s gets really sexually explicit in weird ways with some side stories that don’t effect the main plot. If you’re under 18 years old, be advised.
I’m still enjoying the series but the level of brutality feels like it’s just their to shock at this point? We’ve established that they’re horrible scum disgusting people. Why keep raising the level? Maybe I’m too soft
I LOVE Susanoo and Chelsea, they're such a great addition to the crew! I think Chelsea is one of my favourite characters of this series. I love her design, her character, her backstory... She's just amazing, truly. That last chapter of thus volume is one of the most horrific chapters of all mangas I've read for me, it always makes me cry. I hope they all found peace 3
The main story that makes up 95% of the book and deals with Dr. Stylish's attack on the Night Raid hideout and its aftermath is well handled, most of the members of Night Raid get a moment in the sun, and if Chelsea seems mostly an annoying fan-service waste of space, Susanoo seems potentially pretty cool twist on a number of the manga's concepts so far.
It drops a star with the extra story. I get it. Bad guys do nasty stuff. Other volumes of this manga have included/focused on the perverse cruelty of the capital citizens--especially the men--but this particular "special arc" was over the top nasty. Ugh.
The first half of this volume was the first of the Jaegers, Dr. Stylish, taking on Night Raid. This was a pretty interesting battle that even introduced us to two new members of Night Raid, Susanoo and Chelsea. The second half is a little bit slower, dealing more with Night Raid training and getting to know the new members a little better. I love all the members of Night Raid and their unique quirkiness. Also, the scene with Esdeath and Seryu was honestly a little touching. This manga is making me feel for the villains and I don’t know how to feel about that.
