With stakes of life and death on the line Night Raid manages to split the Jaegers but even with diminished forces each member is incredibly strong and Kurome has brought an army of her own to put our rebel heroes to the test. Both sides will continue to have losses as make our way to the half way point of the series.
My fave moment would probably have to be Leone versus Bols when she does whatever it takes to stop the big man when she has already been disabled earlier in the fight. :)
Thought this was an especially good volume, with lots of tension and emotion. The rule of one dying in a battle of teigus make each encounter especially nerve-wracking, in particular because the author very inconsiderately wrote the bad guys to be sympathetic characters as well. I don't want to see anyone die!!! Both deaths in this volume were super sad. Bols because he never got his chance at redemption and Chelsea because she never got the chance to really become part of the group. It felt I read this volume in a single breath.

Of course I knew several people would die -that’s what a fight between Teigu users comes with. However, I wasn’t expecting those particular characters to be the ones to fall. (Note to self: don’t ever get attached to any of the characters again!) The very last chapter was totally heartbreaking.
On a side note, I’m really enjoying the character development so far!
……………………………………………………………………...
General series thoughts: Mixed bag to the max. I find the overall conflict, including some of the harsh realities of the battles, extremely compelling. But I do feel the series goes too far in the graphic nature of some things that boil down to being there simply to show someone's a bad guy. The art is striking in parts and hard to follow in others. Attached to the characters and completely hooked into reading to see where it all goes, but on the other hand it is a rough read.
This book starts with Night Raid setting a trap for the Jaegers. The Jaegers know it is a trap, but they go for it anyway, not wanting to miss the opportunity. They have to split up to get to Night Raid because Night Raid made it seem like they split up, although they really didn't. Half the Jaegers run into Night Raid, and Night Raid is able to incapacitate Wave, a member of the Jaegers. It becomes an all out battle for the rest of the book.
The artwork is black and white, has panels, and is smooth. There is captions and speech bubbles.
The central conflict of this book is Night Raid trying to kill Kurome and Bols (members of Jaegers). The whole book is a single battle between Bols and Kurome and Night Raid. The battle is very detailed and graphic. This book does not have a happy ending. Both sides receive casualties.
Really enjoyed seeing Kuromes' powers. I feel like that ability could be really interesting in the future. Maybe she kills one of the Night Raid members and uses them in one of the future fights.
I really liked Chelsea's character. Was hoping she would stay alive longer than she did. Although, going in to the fight alone wasn't a smart move.
Putting her head up on a spike in the center of town, I wonder what Night Raid will do. Or rather, what their plan is now.

I love Chelsea so much, man. I'll be the one to say it: You did awesome, Chelsea. ❤️
This volume was really good, lots of action and backstory on Kurome and Akame - "fun" might not be the word considering what happened, but it was a blast to read
Night Raid and Jaegers are still at it. Kurome overpowers most of her assailants with her Teigu. While NR's Chelsea takes out one of theirs, she runs off wanting to finish off Kurome on her own.
I believe I enjoyed this volume more than the others so far due to Chelsea.
Another action packed volume with some good character development. I feel kinda bad for Kurome and Bols. Bols mostly cause he feels so bad for what he's done but feels like someone must... And poor Chelsea...
And Night Raid clashed with the split-group of Jaegers headed by Kurome. There's a lot of action in this volume, and as you can probably expect, deaths, injuries, and backstory occurred on both sides. My favourite character sadly falls here.
This series would have been better if it gave more background on the protagonists. I know more about Esdeath than I know about Akame or Tatsumi. It really is almost all about the fighting.
