Just when she thought things were going up…

Two years after a devastating breakup, Brittni Mitchell has moved on from Justin Avery—or so she tells herself. But when she returns to Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party, Brittni finds herself the victim of a disastrously timed elevator breakdown. She’s trapped with the last person she wants to face, and forced to recount the past she desperately wants to forget.

She’s going to have to look back…

When Brittni left her podunk hometown for a big city college experience at the University of Washington, hooking up with a guy like Justin Avery was not part of her plan. Between Justin’s attention-grabbing tattoos, cigarette smoking, and bad boy attitude Brittni quickly chalked him up as Mr. Wrong.” But his charm was unrelenting, and Brittni’s decision to give Justin a chance quickly turned into the worst choice she ever made.

So that she might be able to move forward.

Now she’s stuck with Justin—literally—and the complicated web of misunderstandings that tied up the truth for two years is about to unravel.

Misunderstandings was a second chance romance that pulled my emotions all over the place. I felt so bad for Brittni and Justin for the pain they endured. But reconnecting, sorting things out, and falling all over again was so much sweeter after surviving such heartache.

Brittni is back in Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party after leaving two years prior with her heart shattered. Snagging an elevator her worst nightmare comes true when she gets stuck with the source of her heartbreak, Justin. He was her first and only love until it all went to hell. Now stuck in the elevator for hours these two have no choice but to confront the events of the past and finally get sorted what really happened.

This story was told in alternating chapters from the past back to the present so we gradually get Brittni and Justin’s history. How they feel in love to the events that led to the implosion of their relationship. Brittni was more guarded and reluctant with her feelings. She was afraid of falling for someone like Justin who was open, affectionate and flirtatious. He had no shortage of female attention which played into Brittni’s insecurities, but thankfully she got over that eventually.

As the past was revealed, at first I felt kind of sorry for Justin seeing as he was so determined to be with Brittni and it seemed like she was always so hesitant. But things switched and then I felt really sorry for Brittni. Justin behaved like an ass, but I can’t say I completely blame him with what he thought happened. Brittni didn’t correct his assumptions, and I can sort of see why she didn’t at first because She couldn’t see beyond her pain to realize Justin was just as insecure at that point leading him to say hurtful things. Really this was a series of misunderstandings that were avoidable, but when you looked at both sides you could fully understand both Brittni and Justin’s reasoning.

Being trapped on an elevator was the best thing that could’ve happened to these two, in spite of the pain it dredged up. I may or may not have shed a tear (or two) when all was revealed…Some of it really hurt. I have to say I couldn’t help but be really pissed at Justin even though, logically I could understand. Getting everything out in the open put them on the road to healing their wounds, and led them back to each other. I was thrilled with how it all worked out!

I loved Misunderstandings even more than No Attachments. Tiffany King brilliantly captured the heartache and loss felt when love ends badly and then replaced it with the high of finding that love again! I can’t wait for bad girl Tressa’s story with geeky Trent next in Contradictions!

He claimed we brought out the best in each other. He was right until he was wrong. Eventually, we would get to the point where we absolutely brought out the worst in each other.
***

Stuck in an elevator with her ex, who openly despises her, Brittni is forced to remember everything that led up to their breakup and Justin's obvious hatred for her. Over the course of a few hours, a truth so heartbreaking will be revealed. Everything will be laid out before them. When it is all said and done, will the two be able to overcome the heartache or will they just walk away from it all?

From the moment that Justin walks into the book and opens his mouth by calling Brittni a horrible name...I was hooked. Weird right? But that was the moment I was pulled in. What in the world would lead him to be so blatantly ugly to her, calling her a foul name? I had to know what secrets were hidden in their past. I had to know how 2 people, who seemed so in love, could lose it all. As we get closer to the fallout, you start to understand why. But really, not everything is as it seems.

I loved the switching from Present to Past. It was like you could see the story playing out in front of you. King did a fabulous job giving us hints each time the Past took over. I really enjoyed watching Brittni and Justin falling in love over time. It was sweet, it was romantic, and it had be grinning like a fool throughout most of the book. That is until the fallout happens. That is when I was hurting. I hated the way it all went down. I was mad at Justin and I was mad at Brittni. Both handled it ways that could have been better. But then I found my heart was seriously hurting also. Not only for Brittni, but for Justin too. There was a high mix of emotions that was abundant through the book. And I absorbed them all.

If you are looking for a book that is sure to get you thinking…sure to have you feeling, then this is the read for you. 5 Emotional, Heart Stirring Stars!

It’s no secret that No Attachments was one of my favorite books read last year and I love Tiffany King’s writing. Imagine how excited I was to read the next installment to the Woodfalls Girls series! And I was not disappointed. A very emotional and wonderful story that I enjoyed immensely!

What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator for hours with your ex? An ex who you were hopelessly in love with, possibly still are, and who crushed you completely and still openly hates you.

Over the course of several hours while Brittni and Justin are stuck in an elevator together, Tiffany King tells us the story of how they met and what led them to the situation they’re in today. She takes us back and forth from past to present giving us just enough insight to keep us hooked and wanting more. Each chapter leaves us in suspense, waiting for the big misunderstanding that tore these two apart and caused so much pain and heartbreak. I loved the buildup and how the story unfolded – it was brilliant!

I was an emotional wreck while reading this book – I’d go from swooning over Justin’s sweetness to rage and heartbreak over their gut-wrenching situation. And the sexy times – although very understated – had my heart racing! Tiffany King has a way with words and her books just flow seamlessly.

I really fell for both Justin and Brittni. Justin is the tattooed misunderstood guy who’s actually a complete sweetheart, while Brittni is witty and snarky and someone I could totally relate to. Together they are an amazing couple and as the pieces of their story come together, you start questioning everything – constantly wondering if these two will be able to find forgiveness and how they move on from here. The suspense of the unknown is what kept me glued to the pages of this book.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading a book by Tiffany King and are in need of a good New Adult read – I highly recommend adding her to your list!

I"m torn over this one. I liked how we got an alternating past and present look at the relationship between Justin and Brittni, but I just don't know if I buy the whole forgiveness aspect of the story. Given what had happened between the two of them: the secrecy, the break up, the public humiliation, it felt like their path to a reconciliation should have had a few more bumps. After all, getting over what was said and done, plus two years of resentment, would have to be tough. Being trapped in an elevator for 6 hours shouldn't conveniently fix that.

I did like the characters that Tiffany King created. They were likable, even when they were being snarky or judgmental. It was easy to put myself in their place and say "yeah, I'd act like that." It's probably because of the characters lilkability and how easily I connected with them that I had a hard time thinking they would each just let go of all that happened and move forward that easily.

This was my first Tiffany King book, but I don't think it'll be my last.

~~ 5 Stars ~~

Let me just started by saying thank you to Tiffany King for letting me have the honor of reading this book before it was released. I am a huge Tiffany King fan ( I LOVE all her books) and this book didn't disappoint. I think Tiffany has sealed the deal when it comes to writing a spicy NA contemporary romance book. Misunderstandings is the second book in her NA Woodfall Girls Series and it was just as good as the first book. This book was different from the first book in how it was written. I love Tiffany's writing style and the way she pulls you into her stories like you are a part of them. This book was a little different because she chose to write this with alternating past and present tense. I have to say I really enjoyed that. I liked that we got the history and past story about Brittni and Justin in every other chapter. The book started out in the present tense and all you know is that Justin and Brittni are not on happy terms at all!!! Over the course of the book we find out what happened to their budding relationship back in college. This book will have your emotions going all over the place. I loved how Tiffany created a story where we got the fun and loving side of Justin and Brittni but then took the story to a more serious side. Once I found out why there was the riff between them, my heart just broke. The title of the book was perfectly matched to this story. I also felt that the pace and flow of the book was great, nothing was rushed and nothing was dragged out. I also felt she did a fabulous job switching between the timeframe…it flowed smoothly and you were never left feeling confused or lost :)

I absolutely loved Brittni and Justin's characters. This story really showed a person that you can't judge a book by it's cover. Brittni was a spunky girl who wasn't afraid to say what she thought and felt. Like I said my heart broke for Brittni as the story went on…what she went through was terrible and she shouldn't have had to deal with it alone. I loved Justin just as much. He was a misjudged person, but once you got under his layers he was sweet and loving. He did have his insecurities, stemming from his father issues, which led him to do something that made me mad, but I was glad to see that things were able to be worked out and I was willing to forgive him by the end of the book :)

I love all the extra characters we got to meet in this book….Melissa, Rob, Tressa, and both families. I loved how Tiffany showed how friendship can get you through any hard time.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a second chance love story. This was a fun, easy, slightly emotional read about 2 people who through everything never lost sight of the love they had for each other and eventually found their way back to each other. ( even if it was because they were trapped in an elevator ;) )

I just finished p.76 for this story, but I'm setting it aside as a DNF for now. I might come back later. Not sure. I'm pretty mad and frustrated.

I picked up this book because I liked the idea of a second chance at romance for a young couple who seemed to have gotten things wrong about each other three years before. They are trapped in an elevator and have to hash it all out. Sounded good plus it had the added bonus of being a new to me author.

I was barely one page in when the heroine's Queen B attitude smacked me in the face. The story is told in flips between past and present day from the heroine's perspective. It begins in the present day. Brittni Mitchell has to be begged to come to her college best friend's wedding activities because her ex, who blames her for their break-up- and it sounded like she even admitted that she had a big role in it- will be present because he's the groom's best friend so she's in a mood. Then the story starts to explain why by dipping back into the past to when it all began.

Brittni Mitchell came to Washington State from a small town in Maine for college to both get away from a busybody mom who is the town gossip and to see something outside her town. She keeps to herself and keeps herself buttoned down with all these self-made rules. She is a people-watcher and prides herself in her powers of observation (modern day Elizabeth Bennet) so when she catches sight of a hot guy in piercings and tats having fun with two bouncing, giggling co-eds, she starts snapping out conclusions at the speed of light. Her derisive attitude is spotted by the guy so he tries to make nice. And yeah, she gives him a taste of her snarling, judgmental attitude. Later they meet again and she is confronted by evidence that she was wrong. Does this change her attitude? Nope. They go on a beautiful date that she grudgingly goes on not even bothering to have an open mind and grudgingly drags her feet through, but it is all fun, enjoyable and shows Justin all to the good as he is a gentleman and patiently coaxes her along. Does she change her attitude? Nope. She has a one-date rule that a guy has to prove himself (yep, she's a Madam 'I know people by one date and that's all it takes'). She had a blast on the date, but goes into denial mode. Then she gets hearsay about Justin from a gal notorious for never speaking in whole truth and believes it with no fact finding. She blows off Justin for their next date with lies. And that's as far as I could tolerate/stomach Miss Brittni Mitchell.

See, her arrogance, judging and hypocrisy was making me sick. She calls him a player, but based on her one-date rule and all the guys that didn''t pass from a strictly objective, 'keen' (sarcasm here) observer like herself she would have given herself that label. She admitted that she was big on her secrets because her mom was a busybody and she didn't want to have her mom up in her business or be anything like her mom which yes, I laughed at because it is patently obvious that what she did/is doing to Justin and the others before him is far worse. And then taking truth from a liar and then using lies to push Justin away...I was done. Nothing- even a horrendous past- justifies this behavior toward other people. And its not just Justin, she has a superior attitude about her roommate too who has been nothing, but kind, open and welcoming to her.

I could tell by just the short snippets of the present day meet up that it was all this type of stuff that caused the break-up. I just wasn't interested in reading on for the reconciliation since at the point in the present day, she wasn't copping to her judgmental attitude and hadn't grown from the past at all. I didn't see in her someone worth Justin even trying for a chance with. To give fair due, Justin probably had a hand in the break-up too, but honestly it doesn't matter because I didn't find her likeable enough to want to see a romance rekindle.

I want to slap a low rating on the book right now, but I won't because that wouldn't be fair. I didn't finish the whole book and its very possible that three years late Brittni grows past all that. I want to believe that she grows. Besides, this book doesn't deserve a low rating because there are many good things going on in the story too. For instance, the author's writing is definitely a plus. Her style, pacing and plotting, character and backdrop descriptions, etc. are all good. I would definitely read other stuff she wrote.

I guess I'll just conclude that this book is not for me, but may work for others just fine. New Adult genre lovers might want to try it.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

An emotional, new adult romance full of sweet and sexy, wit and heart.

I love that every Tiffany King book I read is filled with all kinds of goodness. Romance and sexiness and humor all rolled up into one enjoyable book. I love how the cast of characters intertwine and how they seem so very real. This novel centers around the coupling (and uncoupling) of two people, both headstrong in their own right, that had been in a passionate relationship laced with insecurities and fears. It was that trepidation and lack of complete trust that led to misunderstandings that would unravel everything that felt so right. When Brittni Mitchell returns to Seattle for her friend’s engagement party, she’s full of anxiety over seeing her ex Justin again. It’s clear something big happened… something that made her uproot her life and move back to Woodfalls, the small town she thought she’d never return to. Brittni is a bit of a complicated character. She was conservative… she didn’t do spontaneous, but she also didn’t do long-term relationships. She always found a fault that made her run… until Justin that is.

“Only once had I thrown caution to the wind, and it had bitten me in the ass. That one mistake was never far from my mind. How could it be? I left town and ran back home because of it.”

The story alternates between past and present tense as we move closer to figuring out what the misunderstanding was that broke them apart. When Brittni first meets Justin, he’s everything she avoids… a flirtatious bad boy with girls hanging from each arm. But he’s persistent and when fate thrusts them together once more, she realizes there could be more to him than she first thought. He’s a talented artist and his art hints at a deeper side. So despite her best judgment, she agrees to go on a date with him.

“He used to say we worked because I was immune to his powers of flirtation and he was the looseness to my uptightness. He claimed we brought out the best in each other. He was right until he was wrong.”

The past comes crashing into the present when she finds herself stuck in an elevator with Justin. Suddenly, Brittani is forced to face him, face her still-too-painful past. Both of them are angry and clearly have yet to let go of what happened. The limited air was certainly charged and fraught with a mix of tumultous emotions.

“We were never going to get past this. He thought I was emotionless, but he hadn’t been there to see what had really happened.”

Clues begin to take shape as we learn about the dynamic between them and the events that transpired that have led them to the present day. I absolutely felt the hurt and betrayal between them, the unresolved feelings that lingered and festered over the years. When the truth was revealed, I felt pretty angry myself… so broken up over what happened. It was major and significant and I totally understood why Brittni was acting so upset.

“You betrayed my heart. You left me broken and alone in front of everyone… You left me holding all the shattered pieces.”

The only thing I would say is that I wanted to see more take place in the present. The switching off felt a little rushed and once the truth was revealed, I wanted to spend more time exploring the impact of those decisions since the outcome was so life-changing. It was the sort of thing that you couldn’t get over so quickly, even when the misunderstandings were cleared up. This was obviously a result of me feeling so invested in the characters, which is always a good thing! The characters just felt so real in all their stubbornness and fiestiness and in their heartache too. This is a really great series thus far and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Tressa’s story!

“I wanted to hate you, and at times I did, but there was always something inside me fighting for you.”

I have recently discovered the sweet, melt-in-your-mouth, goodness that is Tiffany King’s writing, and I could kick myself for not reading her sooner. It’s no secret that one of my absolute FAVORITE tropes to read is the second chance romance. I love every single aspect of it and am in absolute heaven when I get to read it. Misunderstandings offered me a huge serving of that trope, and I devoured every delectable word of it!

Brittni is stuck...literally. And worst of all, it’s with the one person who she can’t seem to forget, the person who despises her, the person who betrayed and turned his back on her, and the person who she loved more than anyone else. Brittni is stuck in an elevator with her ex, Justin, and it’s the last place she wants to be.

Misunderstandings is the story of Brittni and Justin’s journey, told in both the past and present, and reveals how they met, how they fell in love, what ultimately tore them apart, their heartbreak, their pain and their grief over losing the person they loved the most. In the beginning, their road to each other was not easy, especially since they are both young, strong-willed and lack relationship experience. However, their connection was extremely passionate, intense and refused to be denied, immersing them head first into love. Their passion for each other burned bright, but not enough to quell their fears of giving, and receiving, absolute trust in a relationship. In the end, their road still isn’t easy. Only forgiveness, acceptance and understanding can pave it the rest of the way.

Brittni and Justin are an incredible couple who I fell hard for. Their emotions were honest, authentic, heartfelt and palpable. I hurt for them, I cheered for them, I forgave them and I loved them. Their growth, maturity and awareness, as characters, as individuals, and as a couple, were beautiful to read.

Even though I loved this book, there were a few negatives for me. I felt that the catalyst that led to the misunderstanding was not true to Justin’s character. Even with his inexperience and immaturity, I still don’t understand the choices that he made. I also wanted more time in the present for these characters. What Justin & Brittni went through had a profound effect on them as a couple, and as individuals. Even though the air has been cleared, I wanted more. Their characters needed and deserved more present page time to fully come to terms with everything they had been through.

Overall, Misunderstandings, and the Woodfall Girls series, is a fabulous addition to the New Adult genre, and one that any fan would fall in love with and enjoy!

I pulled myself out of bed at roughly one in the morning to write this review--and I don't really write reviews, not anymore. I might say, "Hey I really liked this book because..."

But this is going to be so much more than that.

I had to get out of bed because I was so shocked, there was no way my mind was going to let me sleep.

All things fair--even though life, and especially publishing aren't fair--I feel I should mention I know the author. Though know maybe a strong word. I have never met Tiffany King in real life, but we're both authors, and we're kind of friends--but who the hell knows it could be entirely one sided!

Still, I knew about this book well before it came out and I tried to ignore everything I heard about it--because the more I saw of it the more I was sure I was going to hate it. Because I have such respect for the author I was determined to not only read the book, but be happy about it. Mind over genre preference and all that.

Somehow I had managed to go months without realizing the bulk of the book takes places in an elevator. I remember seeing Tiffany posting that on facebook or twitter--I can't recall, but I do remember how I felt; like all my bones had grown old fast. I wanted to groan out loud but kept the feeling of it under my skin. Creeking.

I thought it would be dreadful. I like to read books about castles, and deserted places. I like to read books about cities I've never been to, and times my body will never touch. I didn't want to read a story set in a metal box with no windows and no way out.

But I started into the story anyway, and it didn't take me long to realize that I had been lied to.

Misunderstandings isn't set in an elevator, that's the medium. It's the paint, or it's the putty, it's the wire that conducts the life of the story--but is not the setting. Misunderstandings is not set in an elevator, it's set in the thorough darkness of a pair of broken hearts. Arteries tangled with lies and choked with half truths. Misunderstandings doesn't need an electric box, it's electric all by itself.

This book hurts, in a dangerous kind of way and once you start reading it you'll only want more.

And you'll want the pain of it, because that won't cut as bad as the ecstasy of the characters you know will have to end. You'll need the pain, to help shield you from what you guess is going to happen.

You'll be right... And then you'll be wrong.

So if your anything like me, stop looking for castles; walls crumble, but feelings will linger as scars with good stories.

You will want to read this book. I want to read it again.

Tiffany King is an author I don't miss a book from. I love the easy way she makes me fall in love with her characters and her writing style agrees with me very well. This time was no exception. I loved this installment of the Woodfalls Girls novels, It was one I enjoyed from start to finish. I love books were the characters are "stuck" together and that made me excited for this book from the get go.

Brittni and Justin where characters I both enjoyed getting to know. I usually cringe when I find out a book has flashbacks in the story. I generally hate them unless they are well done and Misunderstandings was very well done. If you can keep my attention with a flashback, let alone several in a book to tell the main portion of the story, then you have my vote as a great author.

Of course you know from the beginning that something had gone wrong with this couple, (see the book's title) so while enjoying watching Brittni and Justin's relationship grow, you had to know at some point the bottom was going to fall out, which, eventually it did. That's the point where things are so frustrating and you just feel like everyone should just shut up and listen instead of walk away. Now, years later, they really don't have a choice but to do so. It was such a great way to make things come full circle for this couple and get them around to where they needed to be. It gave them a second chance to make a decision whether or not they could forgive and move on together, or apart, but if nothing else, they would be able to find some peace and resolution with their relationship through being forced to finally talk.

The Woodfalls Girls novel series is one I highly recommend. Please note that they do fall into the New Adult category, and as such are not for readers under the age of 18. I don't read too much in the NA genre just because I have found it to have too much adult content (mainly sex) for my liking, rather than the content of the story. Tiffany King, however, makes the adult situations in this series tame enough that I fell comfortable reading them and recommending them to other adults that I know feel the same way as I do.

Thank you Tiffany for another great book that I know I will enjoy reading over again like the rest of your books.

I've been a fan of Tiffany King since I picked up her young adult novel Wishing for Someday Soon , more than two years ago. I've enjoyed everything I read after WFSS, as well. With knowing King's writing, and having some of her books as my "go-to" recommendations, I was a little disappointed when I was reading Misunderstandings.

One of the main things I didn't enjoy about this book was that it kept switching from the present to the past, between each chapter and even within chapters. As the description reveals, Brittni is stuck in an elevator with her ex, Justin. While in there goes over her relationship and its demise. That is where the meat of the story is, but the switching between the elevator and events from two years earlier kept pulling me out of the story.

I also felt that I only got to see the characters on the surface, and what deeper understanding of the characters I did get was just told to me. It wasn't shown in the writing. I found it hard to care for Brittni or Justin, or their relationship. This also didn't aid in my connection with everything that happened in the later third of the book when the story started moving forward and stuck to being only in the present.

There is a great story to be told here though. There's a major plot point that could be used to pull in the reader, to sympathize with both characters (and even secondary characters). Even this wasn't written much more than on the surface, for me.

Despite this, I know there will be readers who'll enjoy this quick read. And I will be looking forward to other releases from Tiffany King. I know there's more to be enjoyed from her Woodfalls Girls books, after having read Cross Country Christmas last year. King fans shouldn't pass this up, though. Maybe the format of how the story unfolds will be to your liking. I'm just on ereader.

This is Brittni and Justin's story retelling us each of their version of what happened. We get flashbacks from both parties giving us glimpses of how the two met, got together, fell in love, and sadly come to a tragic end. Here we are two years later... is it Fate? Circumstance? or an Elaborate Scheme on their mutual friend's behalf?

Now Brittni and Justin come face to face and naturally they end up stuck in an elevator for who knows how long and with that we come to find out bits about what lead to their painful end. We also get to read about their fun & amazing times together and with his family, how they fall head over heels crazy for each other deep and fast, and lastly what broke and shattered this couple to pieces.

This story is Fun, Sweet, and Heartbreaking. I fell for Brittni and Justin, I felt their passion, I felt their pain. If I learned anything from this book it would be 1. Never judge people by outer appearances. 2. Don't ever make assumptions without asking for the details or truth. 3. Love is always worth taking a chance on no matter how scary it can be.

This was my first read by King. I enjoyed her writing and the story.

The pain and betrayal both Brittani and Justin felt came across very well. It wasn't hard to understand what came between them. Their animosity for one another was hard to take at times, but necessary to the story.

I'm on the fence about the back-and-forthing the plot did between present day and 2 years prior when their relationship was developing (and subsequently imploding). While I liked reading about their romance in real-time rather than being told about it, I did struggle with the discontinuity. The transition between then and now wasn't always smooth, which pulled me out of the story.

I also struggled with the timeline in present day. Things moved quickly once their misunderstandings were cleared up. I felt they needed more time to come to terms with their feelings from the past. Especially Brittani. Justin's betrayal was really hard on her, yet she was quick to brush aside her feelings of anger and hurt. On the one hand, it had been 2 years and time can dull negative feelings. On the other hand, I'm not sure I believe those things won't come up again on the future.

Still and all, this was a solid, emotional read. I look forward to reading more from King.

This was my first book by Tiffany King and it definitely won't be my last. I read this in one sitting and I loved it. Misunderstandings goes back and forth between the past and present and I enjoyed seeing Brittni and Justin's relationship in it's infant stages. They were so cute together and I just loved the raw chemistry between the two of them. They are witty and sweet and are just so damn cute together. But they both have issues with dating and are both kind of players. Justin is a super flirt that flits from girl to girl, and Brittni has a one date rule. It was great to watch these break down their walls and not only fall for one another but let the other in. But when a misunderstanding shatters everything they've worked for with each other, everything comes crashing down. We as readers get to see how things began, how things were shattered, and now how they are both trying to pick up the pieces.

I really enjoyed Misunderstandings and I am really looking forward to reading more.

Tiffany King has a way with words. She surprises me with every book. I'm enjoying a sweet little romance and then BAM! I'm blindsided...

I loved Brittni and Justin. Justin was super delicious. I'm a sucker for a guy with tattoos. I really liked Brittni even though she was extremely stubborn! Their story was super sweet up until the breakup. I found myself glued to my Kindle, desperate to find out what happened to these two as they seemed like such a perfect couple at first...and then, heartbreak. Tiffany doesn't shy away from some very gritty subject matter and I love that about her!

This book was fantastic. Very sweet, then dark...and then you'll just have to read it to find out the fate of Brittni and Justin.

I read this in July and I'm reviewing it in October so I might be a bit hazy on the details!

So good!! I loved the characters, I loved the plot and I loved the writing! Can you tell I loved this book?

Although this is New Adult, it was so classy. Mature characters, the plot twist around half way through is heartbreaking and just so well done! I think I prefer this to No Attachments, the first book in the series although I did read this first. It can be read as a standalone, it doesn't spoil the first book at all.

5 stars!

What a great story!! This story is sweet, romantic, and totally heartbreaking. I loved the way Tiffany switched between the present and the past in alternating chapters to tell the story of how two people fall in love and how a misunderstanding tears those two people apart. Justin and Brittni's love story is sweet and fun, while their heartbreak brought tears to my eyes. The added element of being stuck in an elevator and forced to talk was perfect.

I wish I had read this book earlier or that I hadn't read it yet so i could re-read it or just enjoy it for the first time again.
I loved the characters and that even though it wasn't a dual POV narrative it was still very easy to tell Justin felt....oh and boy did he feel.
It just goes to show you that assuming makes an ASS out of You and Me...
GREAT BOOK

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

I have been in kind of a book funk lately. Everything that I have read has been just ok or good and nothing has been that memorable. Having never read a book by Tiffany King before, I wasn't sure what to expect with Misunderstandings but I was hopeful that this might be the one to get me out of the funk. This book was fantastic! It was more than I ever expected and I ended up absolutely loving it! Misunderstandings captivated me from the very first page and kept me turning the pages until I had devoured every last word of Justin and Brittni's story! This is the second book in the Woodfalls Girls series, and I can't wait to not only read the next book, but go back and read the first one as well! This book is a must read for NA fans!

Two years ago everything fell apart for Brittni. She left Seattle and headed back home to get away from everything. Now she has been talked into returning by her friends for their engagement party. When she arrives for lunch with her friend she ends up getting trapped in an elevator with the last person she would want to be stuck with, her ex Justin. Justin was the love of her life, only problem is that he hates her. Justin thinks that he knows what happened two years ago, and can't figure out why Brittni did the things that she did. But when they spend hours locked together in the elevator, he quickly begins to realize that things weren't as they seemed and everything he thought he knew might have actually happened differently. What happens to Justin and Brittni when the truth finally comes out and everything that went wrong between them is revealed?

I really loved Justin and Brittni. They were both afraid of commitment. Justin had the reputation and first impression of being a total player and a notorious flirt. Brittni was a one and done type of dater, never going beyond the first date with anyone. But as they got to know each other better, they realized that they were different than they first appeared. Justin was a flirt, but he was also honest and would never cheat. He was an artist and he was thoughtful and caring. He was a laid back and easy going guy who was determined to convince Brittni to give them a shot. He wasn't afraid to go after what he wanted, and I liked that he didn't give up on pursuing her. Brittni was complicated and dedicated, and as much as she tried to keep Justin at arms length she wasn't able to. It was really great to see these two start to fall for each other and really let the other in. I was glad that they took things slow and that they allowed their relationship to really progress naturally. They had a lot of chemistry and attraction, but their connection was so much stronger because they were able to connect on such a deeper and more emotional level than just the physical. These two were perfect for each other, and they really seemed to bring out the best in each other. They did fight and argue, but they were extremely passionate about each other and you could tell that they were so intense because of the feelings between them.

I loved that this book gave us the past as well as the present of their relationship. I will admit at times I was a little frustrated to be switching back and forth because things would just start to get good and give us details and then it would switch. But honestly it kept me interested and unable to put this one down. I simply had to know what happened next and even though I couldn't get there fast enough to figure everything out, I also wanted to really savor the story because it was that good! Justin and Brittni both made mistakes and handled things poorly, but they were young and thought that they knew everything that was going on. Sometimes things happen and we jump to conclusions that we shouldn't, and this was definitely a story where they should have better communicated with each other. But I loved seeing how they were able to really figure things out in the end and see the whole truth. Brittni and Justin are definitely some of my favorite NA characters ever, and I really loved their story. I cannot recommend this one enough, and I think that their journey is definitely a must read. Tiffany King is a new to me author, but after this I know that I will be looking for more from her in the future.

My Thoughts:

Last year, I read No Attachments, the first story in the Woodfalls Girls Series. I fell in love with Ashton and Nathan's memorable story, and cried my eyes out. I got to meet Ashton's two good friends, Tressa, and Brittni. Tiffany King has a beautiful writing style, and to this day I would say that No Attachments is one of my favorite stories.

In Misunderstandings, the second book in the series, we get Brittni's story. Brittni has only been in love once in her life. She fell in love when she was at the University of Washington with Justin. After things ended between her and Justin, she moved back to her small town in Woodfalls, Maine. Now, her college room mate and good friend Melissa is getting married to her college sweetheart Rob, who happens to be Justin's best friend. Brittni doesn't want to see Justin again, but eventually concedes to travel to Seattle for all of the wedding festivities for Melissa and Rob.

When she first lands, Rob asks her to meet him at his office to have lunch and discuss a surprise that he has planned for Melissa. He also invites Justin to lunch with the hopes of getting Brittni and Justin to form a truce, unbeknownst to the both of them. As Brittni enters an empty elevator, at the last minute someone else enters, and she is shocked when she see's it's Justin. Animosity, tension, and anger roll of of these two in waves, and it is evident that they cannot stand to be in the same space as one another. Unfortunately, the elevator gets stuck, and Briitni and Justin end up finding themselves trapped for over 5 hours.

As Britni and Justin are in the elevator, we get flashbacks from Brittni's point of view from how they first met, dated, and how their relationship came to end so badly. In between the flashbacks, we get the present time as they both argue, bicker, reminisce, glare at each other, and finally clear up their misunderstanding from the past.

I loved Misunderstandings! I breezed through the whole book in a couple of hours, because I was dying to know what the misunderstanding was. I loved how the flashbacks were told in a linear form, so that I got to experience Brittni and Justin's whole relationship right along with them. When Brittni and Justin first met, I didn't think that I was going to like Brittni very much. She came off as very judgmental, critical, aloof, and arrogant, whereas Justin came off as every woman's dream come true. However, Brittni really grew on me. She changed, and the more I got to really know her, the more I realized that she just had a hard outer shell, but inside, she had a big heart. The misunderstanding between the two of them was pretty huge, and I would say that they both made large mistakes that contributed to it, although, Justin's were larger. He really made me seething angry with they way he dealt with a few things! Needless to say, I really got invested in the plot, and the characters.

Brittni and Justin never stopped loving each other, and since I am a hopeless romantic, I was rooting for the two of them to find their way beck to each other. They had it all; a great friendship, laughter, passion, fun, and it was obvious that whist they once had was too precious to throw away. I adored Justin's family, they cracked me up, and felt very genuine. I also loved Tressa's loyalty and support of Brittni, and getting to know Melissa and Rob. The pages of this story flew by. I loved every moment in this story. No matter if I was angry, sad, happy, or giddy, and smiling from ear to ear. This is how every story should be. It should completely suck you in to the point where you don't notice when hours pass by, and that's how Misunderstandings was for me!

My Rating:

I give Misunderstandings, by Tiffany King, 4 Regretful, Passionate, Romantic, Painful, "The One that Got Away" Filled Stars! The Woodfalls Girls is a great series! Both, No Attachments, and Misunderstandings were such great reads! I can't wait to get Tressa's story in Contradictions, which releases in early December. It's sure to be a great addition to an already amazing series, and I already feel like I know Tressa, since she played such a significant role in both Ashton, and Brittni's stories.

After reading and loving Tiffany's No Attachments last year, I knew I HAD to continue to Woodfalls series and see Ashton's friends, Brittni and Tressa, find love. I am so glad I did! There's something about Tiffany's writing style that just pulls you in and keeps you engaged the entire time. I really enjoyed this one, as I felt Tiffany really showed her versatility as an author with the way she develops her characters and switches back and forth between the present and the past.

Pacing: I thought it was great. I didn't experience any lulls in the plot and I could not stop reading because I was desperate to find out what had caused such an awful rift between Brittni and Justin.

Storyline: I really enjoyed how the book goes back and forth between the present and the past. It is not distracting at all and I found I was able to keep up quite easily. For Brittni and Justin's story, I think it is critical to understand how their relationship was before and watch how it deteriorates in front of your very eyes. It gives you that added perspective as to why the characters act the way they do now and I think it really made the story that much more endearing and made your heart really ache for these two people. The title of this book is so fitting as everything comes down to miscommunication between the two and letting fear take over.

Presently, Brittni and Justin are reunited and despite not speaking or seeing one another for two years, things are still tense between them. Justin still harbors a lot of animosity, bitterness, and hurt towards Brittni over how things ended between them. It was very hard to witness their happy memories together and watch their relationship develop and overcome their insecurities, only to see it in shambles now. Even now, there are still things Justin doesn't know about what really happened, but being stuck in an elevator together forces the two to confront the past and decide whether they can forgive and move forward.

Characters: It actually took me awhile to warm up to the characters. Past Brittni is pretty judgmental. When she first meets Justin she assumes she knows his type and stereotypes him as a bad boy because of his flirtatious nature, his tattoos, etc. In reality, he is a pretty easy-going guy. He isn't easily offended by Brittni's statements and still wants to get to know her. He's a great brother, artist, and an incredibly passionate individual. He likes Brittni a lot, but has never really done relationships in the past. Brittni hasn't really either, which is why their relationship really took them both by surprise. Neither one expected to feel the way they did about one another, and while Brittni still had her doubts and insecurities, they actually really had a great relationship. Brittni is easily accepted into Justin's family and I loved seeing those scenes with Justin's mom, sister, and brother. Their fallout was something that really bothered me, as I felt they both acted prematurely and rather childishly. Justin has always been patient and understanding of Brittni, so it was hard to watch him make the decision he did concerning their relationship and then throw it back in her face. As scared as Brittni was, she should have told Justin the truth before they crossed a line they couldn't come back from.

Present Justin is, as I stated earlier, bitter and angry at Brittni and was hard to like, as he was so closed off. Brittni still has her spunk, but is a little defeated at the same time. She was also hurt by the past and they both really handled things very badly. Now that they have a chance to clear the air between them, they will have to decide whether they can deal with the secrets of the past and forgive one another or if the weight of what happened is too great a burden to let go of.

Final Thoughts: I enjoyed the second novel in the Woodfalls Girls series, as there is so much depth to Brittni and Justin's characters and I really liked seeing their story unfold. It is a great story about falling in love, second chances, and learning how to forgive and I am very excited to read Tressa's story in Contradictions!

An Honest & Emotional Story With A Passionate Romance!!

REVIEW:
The story:
This book is almost told in reverse, with the story starting where our two main characters Brittni and Justin broke up two years ago, but we don't know why. Now they are back in the same city for a mutual friend's engagement, and they end up trapped in an elevator together, with so many unspoken words between them.

We then flashback to where it all began when they first met in college. Each chapter then alternates between their tense conversation in the elevator and the past as it all lead up to their inevitable breakup. The audience is left hanging, desperate to find out what caused their breakup and why they are so hurt mad at each other. With all the misunderstanding and miscommunications that occur between them, my heart broke for both Brittni and Justin. When everything was finally revealed I was absolutely shattered and a complete emotional mess!!

The characters:
Justin, the sexy tattooed bad boy, who isn't that bad after all. He's such a sweet guy and he really cares about his family. But while he may not be a player, he does struggle to make a commitment, mainly out of fear of being hurt. And it's this fear that the 'misunderstanding' stem from. He makes mistakes, BIG ones, but I could understand them and truly felt his pain. Justin might be flawed, but it's those flaws that make him so loveable!

Brittni was quite judgmental to begin with, quickly labelling Justin and man-whoring player. She's feisty and quite outspoken, but was able to admit when she was wrong. Brittni's far from perfect. She deals with some heavy issues in this book and seeing her struggle with them made her so much more relatable. I felt her pain and torment, which only made the story all the more poignant.

The romance:
The flashback chapters where Brittni and Justin fall in love where beautiful. When they first meet they both make assumptions about each other, but soon learn they couldn't be more wrong. Their first date was so sweet, as where many of their other scenes together. But what they struggle with in their relationship is miscommunication. Some of the things these two go through ripped my heart to shreds!! But seeing them finally work through it and learn how to talk to one another was so rewarding as a reader.

The Writing:
I felt Tiffany's use of flashback chapters was really effective. It created so much suspense & tension and it had me turning the pages so quickly, desperate to find out what the big 'misunderstanding' was!! The pacing was steading, leading up to the climax of the story, which made for a really engaging story.

FINAL WORD:
Misunderstandings is an honest and emotional story with a passionate romance. With it's unique writing style and engaging characters, this one is a must read!

CONTENT:
Sexuality: medium / sex scenes (not overly descriptive)
Violence: mild
Language: medium / some f words
Drugs & alcohol: mild

Brittni and Justin had a whirlwind relationship for three months back in college that almost didn’t happen. For Justin, he was taken with Brittni from the moment she opened her mouth and showed her attitude. Brittni, on the other hand, was completely uninterested. It may have been the tattoos that screamed “bad boy” or the constant girls hanging all over him, but whatever it was, Brittni wanted no part of it. That is, until she showed up at an art show to support a friend of a friend and had her world rocked. The artist was Justin and that began the jumping off of the relationship. Three months later, it all came crashing down when egos and miscommunication got in the way. Without straightening it out, Brittni left school and moved 3,000 back home, never to speak to Justin again.

Flash forward two years. Brittni is back in Seattle for the wedding of her best friend, who is marrying Justin’s best friend. All she wanted to do was avoid Justin and get back home. What she didn’t expect was to be trapped, alone, in an elevator with Justin… for hours!

My favorite aspect of this story was the back and forth. We saw the present and the hostility radiating off each other, and then flashed back to the past as Brittni remembered it. The author did a wonderful job of showing how two people, both of whom were not looking for a relationship, slowly started to trust each other and fall in love. The tension and resentment was so powerful when Brittni and Justin were trapped together, all you wanted to know was what could have happened to two people who cared so deeply for each other a few short years ago, cause Justin to spew such hatred at Brittni the moment he spotted her. As the hours passed, and they began to open up with each other, you saw how one small miscommunication, that could have been corrected with one statement, snowballed into a horrible, public breakup and two years of misery.

This was a story of love, heartbreak and finding your way back. It was a beautiful showcase of how love can withstand time and hurt and become something to believe in again. I am a sucker for second chance romances and this one did not disappoint. I was finding ways to sneak in chapters all day until I could finish it. I really enjoyed looking back at how Brittni and Justin fell in love and that no matter the time or circumstances, that love never died. Misunderstandings is a definite MUST READ!

4.5 STARS!!!

I read No Attachments earlier this year and really liked it, so I was pretty excited when I was offered an arc of Misunderstandings. Sadly, I didn’t get to it as quickly as I would have liked to, but it made for a great beach read on our vacation!!

What I wasn’t expecting with Misunderstandings, is that it takes place at the same exact time No Attachments is happening, which I found to be really fun. You don’t have to read them in order, but I have to say it was amusing to re-live some of Ashton’s adventures through Brittni’s eyes.

One other thing I really liked about Misunderstandings, is you get past and present. I’ve noticed a few books doing that lately, the chapters bouncing between time periods and when it’s done right, it’s awesome. I like how it all played out here, getting a firsthand view to what really went down while Brittni and and Justin hash it out.

You see, Brittni is visiting her friends to celebrate their engagement, but she gets trapped in an elevator with her ex Justin ( who hates her) and they are inadvertently forced to work through the event’s that taint their past. It was amusing and sad at the same time. My heart broke for them.

My only qualm was I think it wrapped up a little quickly, but I did really enjoy the hint you get into Tressa’s books, Contradictions. I’m looking forward to reading that one!

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good. If you’re looking for a New Adult books with more than just dirty sex, give the Woodfalls Girls a try. These books are fun!

Somehow Tiffany King's writing pulls me in from the beginning. After only a few chapters of their past history being retold I had already fallen for Justin. Something about a guy who is a family man that pulls at my heart strings and lets me know he really is a good guy (even with all of Brittni's doubts).

This book was page turner and I practically finished it in a day. The story took me back to my days in college. The scene where Justin's sister Hollie interrupts them in the basement brought back memories, lol. The story felt real and it was fun, while heartfelt.

My "Misunderstanding" was their misunderstanding. I thought the way Justin handled their breakup was really immature. I didn't like how easily he let Brittni go and didn't even bother the chase after her. I could tell how much he loved her and couldn't believe he would let a week of her acting different make him react the way he did. I was sure he was going to call her after a few days, and then after being caught with a girl on his lap kissing at the party only a week or so later. The fact that he just let her go and moved on so easily didn't sit well with me. I also wished Brittni had stood up to him and said something about what really happened to her. With the love like theirs I didn't see a simple misunderstanding like the one they had keeping them apart. I guess I like when there is a chase between the characters.

Their reconciliation was understandable, knowing their history and the deep love they shared. However after they left the elevator it was like they no longer talked about the "misunderstanding" they had and things just worked out. It seemed quick and easy with not much pain left from what was a heartbreaking event for then both of them.

Overall it was a great read and I think I might even reread it someday!

Misunderstanding: fail to interpret or understand (something) correctly

Humans are flawed by nature. Understanding this simple fact should make life easy? Instead we tend to coast though life, wearing metaphorical blinders. Here is the issue…we only hurt ourselves in the process. Occasionally, when we pull back the blinders we can appreciate each other for what are and not what we try to be.

The best things come in small packages, or in this case the cramped walls of an elevator. After two years apart, Brittni and Justin are locked together, forced to face each other sans blinders. Brittni fled the city she loved, looking to piece together the remains of her shattered life.

“The city and I had bad blood.”

Returning as a shell of her former self, Brittni thought she had the answers, she thought she was over him, she thought wrong.

“That grin. It had always been my downfall. If I pinpointed all my favorite memories that involved him, that grin could be found at each and every one.”

There is a thin line between love and hate. Acting irrationally, both Brittni and Justin call that line passion. Pushing each other to the breaking point, they soon learn walking away may not be the only option they have.

“Anger and passion are basically the same thing. If you truly were angry, you would have walked away.”

Tiffany’s second book in the Woodfalls Girls Series, Misunderstandings, was simply perfect. Well written, a perfect balance of angst, joy, and secrecy, this emotional throwback will hold you till the very last word. Sadly this is my first King read but that is an issue I will be correcting very, very soon.
