Blue Moon Junction #1

The Alpha Claims A Mate

Rate this book
New Yorker Ginger Colby, half witch, half werewolf, all curves, has made an immediate and lasting impression on the Alpha of Blue Moon County. Unfortunately, she did it by publicly insulting him – she turned down the smug, sexy werewolf sheriff when he asked her to dance with him at the local honky-tonk.

Now the furious Alpha of her pack is ordering her to make amends with Sheriff Sexy – or risk igniting a war between the Red Wolves and the Gray. The Sheriff’s idea of re-establishing his dominance includes a bare bottom spanking, making her work for him as his new assistant, and flirting with her outrageously. But is he flirting with her just to get revenge for humiliating him – or does he want something more? And can a liberated big city werewolf find happiness with a dominant small town shifter?

With the mysterious disappearance of an archeology professor, and a jealous Alpha female stirring up trouble…Ginger may not have a chance to find out!

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

I wish I hadn't read this book. But it was a very short novella and I had just DNFed another impulse buy.

I also wish people would realise that having a dream of becoming an author doesn't imply you know how to write a good story. Keep dreaming, it's absolutely right. One day you may even be a successful one. And I'll be happy for you. But please don't make me pay for your dreams. However cheap at 3$ it's still a lot of money for a wish-fulfilment short story of a Mary Sue.

Do not write about what you are ignorant. A PNR is based on fantasy and should have a good world-building to go with it. Do not write a fake PNR just so you can avoid writing a love story and substitute it with fated mate crap. If you write about magic, create your magic world.

Do not write about BSDM it you don't know what the risks are. The episode is absurd within the story, but above all is stupid. BSDM should be about trust, you trust the person with you, otherwise you are a dumb ass. But then the both the heroine and the all her "friends" are generally so stupid that you cringe. I'm not sure what age they should be, mid-twenties maybe, but they act as eleven, twelve years old girls top. (Middle grade cattiness and fights, and stupidity)

Do not write if you don't know what characterization is. People in a novel should be people and therefore respect "life-like" attitude, behaviour, dialogue. I'd love a world where my curves are appreciated, but empowering is different from Mary-Sueing. A character has to be three-dimensional, but if you can't, at least aim for two. Leave cardboards for window-dressing.

The books aims for fluffy and funny, and I'm sure that for some it'll be such. For me it was simply stupid.
I wish all the best to this author's future career. But I won't be among her readers.

Actually a pretty good first in series werewolf tale. Not great, not fantastic, but pretty good.

I didn't like the Dom/Sub BDSM stuff, cause it just took me right out of the story. It seemed to be added just for the "50 shades" factor. It had no relevance and wasn't done particularly well. GSC could of left in the spanking without the club scene IMO.

The mystery was well done even if it was obvious who the bad guy was. And all the relatives trying to marry off Ginger was funny. I think Ginger needed to be a little funnier/snarkier.

It did seem to try to be everything to everybody. We had a hybrid wolf shifter who can see & talk to ghosts, who has a BFF who gives psychic love readings. A womanizing, supposed Dom, Sheriff, wolf shifter alpha with ex-girlfriends everywhere who are really jealous. Missing professors, a trade in ancient artifacts, possible dead professors, Panthers vs Wolves and political problems with the Wolf Shifter Council. Oh, and the 17yr old down-on-his-luck coyote shifter trying to look after his younger siblings who just needs a job to turn his whole life around.

Loch wasn't very Alphaery by the end of the book which was a bit disappointing. The author seemed to give all the best bits to Ginger not realizing that we needed a balance between them.

Still I'm quite prepared to read the next one cause it did have potential and I'd like to see where it goes.

I read this book as part of the Fated Mates: The Alpha Shifter Boxed Set of which I received an ARC via NetGalley.

I liked the unusual ability that Ginger had and the fact that she stood up to the Alpha- the punishment she recieved could have been better i think. I would have liked there to have been more chemistry between Ginger and Loch- as they are supposed to be true mates, to me there didn't seem to be that much of a connection between them. I thought the BDSM element, although quite small, was really unnecessary. I enjoyed the whole murder mystery consept of the book. The characters Marigold and Winifred were good additions- I would like them to have their own stories told. I think book has a lot of potential- with a few changes, it could be an awesome book.

Ginger Colby, a half breed red wolf, has just broken up with her long time boyfriend and is spending some much needed vacation time with her friend Marigold in Florida which just happens to be in Loch Armstrong's territory of feared gray wolves. When Loch, the sexy alpha of the pack, struts up to her at the local bar and tells her to dance with him she has no reservations in publicly shutting him down and walking out. Little does she realize she's just declared war between the packs by shaming an alpha.

Problems arise when her own alpha calls to demand she make amends before all out war between the two packs breaks out by serving Loch, who happens to be a county sheriff, as his assistant until she has suitably atoned for her actions. Ginger, a red headed witch/wolf, doesn't do remorse or apologies, but when her own family's future is put at risk she's forced to swallow her pride and submit to Loch who is enjoying his dominance over her way too much.

New to me author who has penned an enjoyable fluff read that combines a paranormal romance with a suspense/murder mystery storyline that gives a lot of bang for the buck.

Ginger, a BBW, has some definite baggage issues to contend with which made parts of this read very poignant. Her actions in regards to man whore Loch were at humorous as the snarky redhead didn't back down to his alpha tendencies. But. I really didn't get any chemistry between the two which did detract from the soul mate concept. Was this a case of a BBW falling for the first eye candy guy who appreciated her or true lasting love? I never did get a clear answer.

In regards to the storyline. A lot going on as the core plot was the romance between the two central characters. There were several subplots that had enough substance to keep me interested but not enough to give them any depth and the climatic "who done it" scene should have had much more significance than it did. Just sayin.

As to my issues. This is a case where a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. There is a BDSM element in this book that I wish wouldn't have been. The idea that a totally vanilla person would be brought into a BDSM club, stripped, and participate in a public discipline scene just pushes my buttons. More than that is the fact that a Dom would use a small sized paddle to spank their sub on the same spot on their butt with very forceful strength ten times with the result that the sub has an orgasm... Sorry. I could see the lack of a safeword as the scene is a disipline scene but..... And. Loch is a Dom but this isn't consistent with how the two are in the sex scenes following him revealing that fact. Once that was brought into play it needed to have follow up in the storyline. Just sayin.

I do wish I could have appreciated this book more than I did because there are portions of the read that really had me interested. My only thought, and it is a personal thought, is that the author went in way too many directions to include what she thought her reader would enjoy instead of letting the actual characters dictate the story.

Ginger I liked her, "I came here to put as much physical distance as I could financially afford, between myself and that cheating, lying, useless pig of an ex-boyfriend of mine. Not that I'm bitter." I would have never thought that Ginger I really wouldn't have. Ginger's friend Marigold that damn girl is somethin' else, "I've got extra condoms if you need them," Marigold added, following her down the hallway. "Do you want to tuck a few in your purse? How about a six pack? He looks like he's good for at least a few rounds." Loch he's not sure how to go about his and Ginger's relationship, "ever since the first time I laid eyes on you, I wanted to claim you as mine," Loch told her. "That's why I went all caveman on you at the Hoot Owl. I've been trying to fight the damn urge to grab you and rip your clothes off every second that I'm alone with you." He's even willing to accommodate her some time, "this is the 21st century. I get that. We can take all the time you need. And there'll be courting. Plenty of courting." His voice dropped to a low growl. "But no other men." He also likes to state where he is when it comes to the bedroom situation, "just so we're clear...in bed. I'm always the dominant." His voice rumbled out, deep and sexy."

Entertaining and humorous shifter romance.

This is a cute little shifter read which ticks all the boxes, hot domineering alpha, curvy female, humour, hot sexy scenes and of course a nasty female who wants him for herself.
Ginger is down from New York putting 'as much physical distance as I can financially afford, between myself and that cheating, lying, useless pig of an ex-boyfriend of mine. Not that I'm bitter.'
And while the Sheriff is the hottest thing she's ever seen, he's got muscles on top of muscles and has women dripping all over him after her breakup Ginger is lacking in confidence and all these women are so slim and beautiful that when he commands her to dance with him she refuses.
Expecting it to have blown over by morning Ginger is amazed to discover that everyone knows about it, Winifred has a theory 'Social experiments have determined that in smaller communities, this type of salacious news travels in a manner similar to a contagious virus, only faster.'
Well that and it was in the morning paper.
To make amends and to keep the peace between the packs Ginger is made to apologise and is given the job of Sheriffs assistant for the next two weeks.
This is an entertaining funny shifter read, well worth a try if you want to escape for a while.

Whyyyy?! Why did you (to the author) write such a book?!
If you had put some more I don't know "humiliation scenes'' between the alpha and her mate in front of the public and maybe some more you are my fated mate thingy and her rejecting the idea even if she liked it or more mystery on the search for the professor or the murder and more of the near non existant steamy scenes this book would have been one of my favorites but no you had to cut throught all of that and put this resumé of the book.
So not a suprise when the book isn't well known or much liked.

Shall we dance

This book has so much going on that I didn’t know which way to turn next. Love, and sass, were in the air, jealousy and hate tried to take hold, and the bad guys almost win. It was absolutely fantastic! The author kept the story moving with witty repartee and intense moments of danger and intrigue. I can’t imagine what she’s going to come up with to top this series starter, but I can’t wait to find out!

Not into the BDSM books. It started as a good read until they got a little too freaky for my taste. I will not be finishing this book. What a shame.

i dont ever write reviews like this.. But this book aggravated me more and more with every sentence i read. so i have some shit to say.
This was so fucking dumb. I mean the expectations were low but fuck me. Fucking werewolves and „love psychics“ aside, all the adults are acting like teenagers, the fucking dialogue and the writing?? I usually dont give a shit about the way a book is written but when this adult woman said „no-no zone“, i snorted so loud my cat yeeted himself off my bed. The FMC is the epitome of a pick me girl. we get it. you look different. you are different. you are oh so dorky. stfu and stop putting down other women because of it. And that’s just one of many reasons why i cant stand Ginger. All the other characters were bland and annoying and i remember none of their names not only because i didnt give a shit, but also bc all their names were stupid, I’m sorry. And there were so many of those.
Also, this supposed „strutting manwhore“ is oh so confident that him getting rejected by one girl, threatens to cause a war between packs? And i thought my ego was fragile, ay. I’ve read wattpad stories with a better set up tbh.
On top of that, there was no chemistry or tension between the two MCs. I mean let’s pretend that he had enough of a personality for me to at least remember his name, but i didnt and my man can’t flirt for shit. And the constant sexual innuendos that came out of fucking nowhere… 12 year old boys have more sense for time and space than this guy. if his delivery would’ve been good at least but nope.. he’s just a smirking robot of muscle. And he’s a fucking hypocrite. The only positive thing i got from him is that he’s hot. So hot in fact that it needs to be mentioned in every third or fourth sentence (right alongside her fucking hardening nipples). so that’s that. And while we’re at it, i never want to imagine anyone „oozing“ sexuality ever again. Fuck i don’t want to imagine anyone oozing anything.
The only good thing about this book was, that it was available for free on audible and it helped me fall asleep on a stormy night.
Also side note: the fact that „honky tonk“ isnt a name for a sex club is fucking mind boggling to me.

New York half shifter/witch Ginger Colby knows all about Sheriff and Alpha Loch Armstrong's type, they can get into any woman's bed but she is not interested. So when Loch approaches her for a dance she blows him off causing the small town to gossip and her Alpha from New York order to make amends by being Loch's assistant while still there.

Loch doesn't know why Ginger rebuffed him but he has a plan and having her by his side is a definite bonus. Loch wants her and there is a pull having him question if she is his mate, now he has to get the feisty woman on board but others in his town are plotting against him. What's an alpha to do?

This was fun, I had it on my TBR for awhile and should have picked it up sooner. I enjoyed how the story unfolded and the chemistry was fantastic. Great read.

The Alpha Claims a Mate gets off to a rough start when alpha werewolf Sheriff Loch Armstrong demands that Ginger Colby dance with him, and raises hell when she declines. Her family could lose their jobs because she didn't want to dance with a pushy womanizer? But the book evens out, and Loch turns out to be both a good person and Ginger's fated mate. In the end, Loch will face off against a powerful werewolf family for the right to marry Ginger, as well as solving a baffling murder. While the book started out bad, it definitely gets better by the end.

This was good. Had some ups and downs but the story was there. I like how she friend him down at first. Made me laugh. Although this wasn't the best book I've read I did enjoy it. I liked the developments from all sides. I'm not sure why this was getting so many bad ratings.

It's a cool shifter story with some unexpected turns.

I wanted to see it through but it just wasn't for me.

I was hoping for a more inventive way for the H to introduce the h to spanking rather than just taking her to a sex club. Just a bit mmmehhh for me. I've read to many stories recently with the same story line.

A bunch of sexist shit.
I actually wanted something entertaining and stupid to listen to while lying on the sofa during quarantine.
But not even my Covid brain was clouded enough not to notice the constant sexism in this book. I've read better fanfiction on AO3...
At least I didn't pay for it..

I enjoyed Georgette St. Clair's other short novella, I Married A Warlock, so it was with simple happiness that I picked up the first novella in her Alpha series. The Alpha Claims A Mate was another short, fun, naughty read that was real, quirky, and entertaining. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be picking up Ms. St. Clair's other supernatural romances!

Ginger just wanted a vacation away from her normal life, so she and her best friend, Marigold, went out to the country to have a little rest and relaxation. Unfortunately for Ginger the first thing she manages to do when they get there is insult the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, Loch. The next day she receives a call from the alpha of her pack, a very angry alpha who orders her to make amends with Loch by any means necessary. Loch, being very attracted to the stubborn woman, is going to use this mandated time together to win her over at any cost.

There are two side stories woven into this one in the form of Ginger's best friend, Marigold, who keeps finding and leaving all the "perfect" men because her "gift" tells her it won't work. As well as the boy Ginger and Loch help, a sweet "charity" case that is working hard not to be. I won't give it away, but it's fun.

Description from the back of the book: "New Yorker Ginger Colby, half witch, half werewolf, all curves, has made an immediate and lasting impression on the Alpha of Blue Moon County.

With the mysterious disappearance of an archeology professor, and a jealous Alpha female stirring up trouble…Ginger may not have a chance to find out!"

This is probably the last time I've ever let Amazon recommending a book to me but I'm not seeing how that's possible since Goodreads is Amazon. I never understood why this novel was classified under BDSM erotica when there's barely even sex in this book and the drama and wealth of non-important characters it have outweight any redeemable feature this book ever had.

This book is about Ginger, an out-of-town half-breed werewolf girl with her working friends and she went out to a bar where she saw a man-whore rubbing over his bodies with a lot of women and exchanging them through the night until this guy came toward her for a dance and she said no and flee. However, that man-whore turned out to be the town's sheriff and Alpha and because of her refusal, she made a direct challenge to the alpha and to prevent a war between her pack and his, she was forced to work as the sheriff's assistant. Add to that, she's also a ghost whisperer, an archaeologist's assistant, a family counselor with an intuitive to solve crimes. Oh, she's also a woman supposedly with poor self-image which constitute to big-boned woman (BBW) label this book had which magically disappears and the characterization of immature special snowflake character remained.

I wished I had a better intuitiveness to avoid this book but of course, I have to have that tendency to finish what I read no matter what. Despite being a werewolf novel, there's barely any amount of supernatural in this book. The character's drama overwhelm the story that by the end of the book, everything look like a mismatch of a chic lit and the little thing that made paranormal romance or paranormal erotica appealing.

This is a story with characters you quickly identify with and whose future matters to the reader. The author, Georgette St. Claire uses everyday situations and a lot of humor in her writing.

The heroine of the story, is a big girl, she is honest with herself about her size, laughs about it and is even sensitive about others reactions to her body without affecting the flow of the story.

I hear readers' complaint that the words BBW in any book title means a main character with low self-esteem and constant whining. That is NOT the case with this writer at all. This is a contemporary paranormal romance whose main character is larger than size 6; it is NOT a story about a large woman who lives in a world of paranormals and how she handles being big.

I like that the author takes you on a journey where a woman slowly learns who she loves. You find yourself rooting for the man who chooses her. There is mystery and challenges in this story along with simply the funniest most fleshed out secondary characters set in a small town in the south.

I am happy to have found this author and look forward to future books set in this Florida town. You will not regret taking the time to read this book, as it is quite an adventure

There is much about this romance to like. I like the BBW half wolf/half witch shifter a great deal. The hero is your typical man whoreAlpha but he comes around and magically quits all bad behavior like they do.

I love the secondary cast of her BFFS. They actually have their own romances which are super fun. I do so wish they would get their own parallel in time romance so we could enjoy all the details. There is a nerdy savant human I adore and would be happy to buy her
book.  I think the next book in the series focuses on this jerk Jax instead. Pout.

The subplot around artifacts and the panther nation and the disappearance of a professor is good interesting. The college students are bit annoying and over the top but the panther nation concept in great.

Here is what went wrong and dragged it into two star territory kicking and screaming. I really wanted the book to live up to the bar of its good moments.

The heroine has several TSTL moments around the fated mated thing and the investigation.

For no reason what so ever in this small town, the hero takes his fated mated to a BDSM Club. Why? Why? It is such an off scene that it sours the book.

Ah. well. If she writes about Winifred (the nerdy friend) I will risk it and try again with this writer.

The Premise
BBW Ginger Colby, (half witch, half werewolf) is on vacation in Blue Moon County, when she insults the local Alpha (who is also the sheriff) by refusing to dance with him at local honky tonk. She’s then forced by her Alpha to work for the Sheriff as his assistant for two weeks as a way to make amends. There is a secondary plotline of a professor’s disappearance

The Good
Here, Ginger is pretty accepting of herself, which is refreshing. She’s funny and strong enough to stand up against those who would bully her. The hero, Loch, was completely into her, just as she is, which was great. I wish there had been more time spent inside his head.

There are a cast of supporting characters, some pretty standard, but I did enjoy the banter between them.

The Bad
The usual self-pub issues, punctuation and grammatical errors, and some continuity issues were distracting at times. The villains are pretty much cardboard cutouts, with no dimension to them.

The Bottom Line
Most BBW books tend to focus too much on the insecurities of the heroine, instead of just making that part and parcel of being a woman, no matter her size. This was not the case here. Even with its flaws, Alpha Claims a Mate was an enjoyable read and I’ll seek out other books by this author.

Reviewed previously 4 years ago but review is missing. Shocker.
Enjoyable tongue in cheek romp with likeable characters but a manwhore hero is not what I like to read about.
Ginger disrespects the local alpha not knowing who he is. She had watched this man basically rubbing up and licking every woman in the bar and when he ordered her to dance, she told him to get lost.
Apart from all the moaning about her weight, I quite liked Ginger until she starts panting after the sheriff like every other bi*ch in town does.
How many woman can say their first date is a BDSM sex club. Really tacky, especially as she lets him paddle her in front of the whole club.
Loch gets jealous about any male looking at Ginger but keeps running into woman around town who he has slept with and also mentions about taking PLENTY of women to the sex club. All those women were just while he was waiting for THE ONE. Yea right.
If you actually read the background story about the Indian artefacts, this is quite a fun read.
My only negative is I felt Ginger kept harping on about her size and being a big girl. We get that her ex left her for a skinny blondette, but I like a more positive heroine. His loss.
The best person in this story was Marigold.

This is a new author for me. I was not sure what to expect going in, but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it. It was fun and sexy.

Ginger Colby is half red wolf, half witch. While on vacation in Florida, she insults the sexy alpha of the local grey wolf pack. Not realizing the major political ramifications of what she has done, Ginger thinks nothing of the incident. Until the next morning when her alpha calls and wants her to fix the situation, now.

So Ginger agrees to her punishment to make amends with the local pack. She's to be an office clerk for the sheriff, Loch Armstrong, also the insulted alpha. Well when these two get together, instant sparks.

There are also several side stories going on, a missing archeologist, friction between the grey wolves and the panther nation, a down on his luck teenage shifter who just needs a break and political problems with the shifter council.

All in all it was a great first effort. I liked the characters, and the story was fresh and different. I hope there's a second book.

I was instantly nabbed by this novella because of the writing style, yet along the way there were things that just didn't fit. More then half way through you learn she's half witch when I clearly thought she was half human. That may just be my fault. Do all these creatures just mingle willingly? There wasn't enough paranormal activity going on. The BDSM scenes could have been kept out and it would have made no difference to the book. Clearly this is someone who hasn't experienced this and it shows. I liked this and will possibly read another from the author. A nice short read but still have some questions.

As another shifter novella from the Fated Mates box set I was up in the air about this one. I mean it was better than some of the ones I've read previously but....

Loch is an gray wolf alpha used to getting the attention. Ginger is a red wolf huge feels she's overweight and takes offense to Loch demanding a dance.

This sparks a lot of commotion because no one turns down the Alpha. It was okay but I felt the whole deal with the Panthers was just so weird. I mean it was a great twist but Tallula and Brenda and the Professor and Marigold...there was so much going on for such a short story.

Ugh! I felt like the entire focus of the book was how the main character was "a size 16" and "self conscious" about her looks, etc etc. I don't have an issue with her body type at all but I have an issue with the way it was portrayed and the way she viewed herself. Don't recommend
