Fast-paced loved inspired suspense. It was set in Amish country, but couldn't have had more action and suspense. Stayed up all night reading it. I have to quit doing this :)

Lancaster County Target is an amazing story written by Kit Wilkinson continuing her series which takes place in Willow Trace. This story revolves around Abigail Miller who appeared in the first story. Abigail has recently decided to remain outside her Amish church to continue her work as a nurse and midwife in a clinic she has formed to help her community. To the dismay of her Bishop father Abigail feels she has made the right decision until she accidentally stumbles upon a murder in the hospital where she works part-time. When the murderer discovers her watching he grabs her and injects her with a deadly medicine. Abigail is discovered in a stairwell close to death and taken to the ER where she meets new doctor, Blake Jamison. As they team up to discover the murderer Abigail is targeted time and again but is it really her the person wants. This story takes a lot twist and turns but the outcome will shock you. The person behind the murder and attacks against Abigale and Blake will also bring an Oh to your mouths.

I also enjoyed getting to see what has happened to characters of the first two stories as they play a big role in this story. The characters are very likeable and became like friends. This is such an enjoyable read.

Congratulations to Kit Wilkinson on continuing her series with another suspenseful mystery for her readers enjoyment.

Book 3

I'm not a big fan of Amish fiction. With that said, I really enjoyed this entire series. In this book, we meet Eli's sister (she was introduced in Eli's story, "Plain Secrets."), has decided not to join the Amish church. Her father wants her to live the Plain life, get married and raise a bunch of kids. But Abigail wants more for herself. She wants to be a nurse and midwife, and she can't do that if she joins the church. But only two weeks after making her decision, she is attacked after witnessing a murder. Now she has to pair up with Dr. Blake Jamison to figure out why they are suddenly targets while also trying to get her father to accept her decision.

The story was good and interesting, but I wonder about some of the stuff in this book. For instance, at one point Eli (who walked away from the Amish faith for ten years or so, but has married his childhood sweetheart and joined the church), borrowed a gun to hunt down the bad guy. If Eli was truly an Amish man, he would not do this because it's against their whole belief system. Also, it seems a lot of the Amish carry cell phones in this story. Even Eli. I'm feeling that Eli doesn't want to completely turn from the English ways...

"From the chilling opening to the breathless conclusion, Lancaster County Target is one gripping read. Never mind nail-biting -- you won't have any fingertips left after reading this great Love Inspired Suspense. Honestly, Wilkinson barely gives her readers pause to draw a deep breath before she plunges them into another harrowing scene." From a review posted by an harlequin.com member. To read more, go HERE>

If you are looking for a great "Love Inspired Suspense," Lancaster County Target is a wonderful book. We meet Abby Miller, a nurse who left the Amish faith to serve the Amish people as a nurse and a midwife. Blake Jamison is a New York doctor who is filling in at the hospital in order to solve his own mystery. When a patient is murdered, and Abby witnesses the event, the two come together to solve the crime. A wonderful book for a winter evening.

I liked that Blake's relationship with Abigail was (relatively) slow-paced. Until the end of the novel, it was easy to follow and the twists were both logical and well foreshadowed. The faith of the Amish made the baby-stealing ring plausible in the modern era, and the characters were well-drawn and believable.

Typical short mystery romance--the couple do ridiculous things while a killer is after them. Does nobody stop and think? It was a rather sweet read in some ways, but I just couldn't quite buy into some of it.

Fast paced. Entertaining, fluff novella. The budding romance was a bit too repetitive in the wording from chapter to chapter. Good story line.

LANCASTER COUNTY TARGET
--------------------------
As mentioned in some of my other reviews, not every book in this genre is, at least in my opinion, nearly as good as the reviews and ratings suggest. Obviously, no one expects earth-shattering literature. After all, the publishing schedule for this type of book is breakneck in order to keep pace with demand--not a bad thing, really.

However, there is an unspoken tension between lovers of emotion-driven stories--the reviews that forgive any and all grammatical and/or other errors for a story that hits the "right spot"--and the reviews that, under the surface, basically express the reviewers' trouble "hearing the story" for want of good grammar and/or good writing.

I fall into the later category, and trust me, I know that my need for commas, parallel use of contractions, and the like is a real hindrance to my enjoyment of Story. Trust me--I LOVE good story. I will follow good story around like the quintessential book lady. But good writing and good story fit together nicely--insert a familiar, homey simile here: like PB&J, marshmallows and campfires, etc. Basically, in my world, good story almost never exists without at least "okay" writing.

In the case of Lancaster County Target, the story starts with a proper hook. Multiple plot lines are woven in quickly, and the pace moves fairly well. But just a few pages in, the writing gets uneven and choppy. One might even say robotic. There is a lot of telling instead of showing. Am I making my point? I have a frown on my face, and I look annoyed. I am scratching my thinning black hair (p. 35--altered quote, alterations mine). I'm feeling like using a contraction now, but later in this sentence, I will not use a contraction. I will say to myself, "Self, I should not go in this house. It is dark." And Self will answer, "You are right. The power is out." Then, for good measure, I'll tell myself again, "Yep, the power must be out" (p. 47--altered quote, alterations mine).

Ack! I can't "hear" the story! What a shame.

Kit Wilkinson book Lancaster County Target pulled me into the story from the beginning. A death, and near death several times bring Abby and Blake closer together. But who could be causing all the troubles and what is the reason that Blake ended up in Lancaster County. A well written book that starts and ends with you wanting more. If you love mysteries and Amish fiction then this is a book for you.

I love reading Christian romantic suspense, but I haven't read many Amish books. I found Lancaster County Target by Kit Wilkinson interesting and fast-paced, and I liked the new twist on the tried nurse-doctor romance. It was also fascinating to read about the culture that is so different to what I'm used to.

A excellent book that has a lot of action that goes way back to 30 years to abducting Infants from Amish Family and selling them over seas to rich family's and a Doctor who just lost his adopted parents in a plane crash and goes to Lancaster PA to find answers only to fall in love with a Amish Women. They both need to find answers to who is trying to kill them both.

3 1/2 to 4 - a good story, but pretty much formulaic, especially at the end.
