Not as strong, even with Heiji there. I'm excited about the cliffhanger chapter though. Let's see what the next volume brings.

Enjoyed but did not top volume 22

1. The murder in the cinema was okay, I wasn't that hooked up, due the lack of knowledge for old cinema facility and behind the scenes

2. The next case was an interesting one but I was confused when they started talking about the killer Kanzo from 20 years ago, but I do admit the flash back at the beginnings where the gang kills the boss and leave.

3. ALSO I WAS WORRIED ABOUT HEIJI/HARELY THE ENTIRE TIME! And it was cute when he still wore the lucky charm/talisman.

All in all, i want to read volume 24, since it starts about the two cute inspectors in the investigation team

*Note this volume ends in a cliffhanger!

This one started off okay but quickly picked up for me. And the cliffhanger certainly lead me wanting to instantly jump to the next volume! Another nice addition to the series :)

Case 1: Enjoying, to some extent, a day off with the Detective Kids, Conan goes to the theater to watch some movies. While Conan isn't big on the choice of film, Ai suggests to sit back, relax, and turn his brain off for once. Unfortunately, the leisure doesn't last long, as swinging in front of the projector is a dead body.

A rather run-of-the-mill case, nothing really stood out to me. Though I did enjoy the short exchange Ai and Conan had in the bathroom. Their relationship is an interesting one, and I'm eager to see more with the two together (and with the Black Organization). But alas, the filler will continue for a long time x'D I think it was interesting reading this case now, about a dying movie theater. Still relevant after over 20 years.

Case 2: Conan, Rachel, and Richard get an all-expenses-paid trip on a cruise as a prize for solving a puzzle. (Well, Conan solved it :P) Along with a few other passengers, everyone seems at ease as the ship sets sail. It isn't long however, that old crimes creep back up from the shadows, along with a new one--murder!

The second they mentioned another detective was on board, ya gurl knew it was Harley! <3 A case with lots of twists, turns, and surprises (and explosions lol), it'll keep you guessing until the end. The longer cases can often be more fun as it gives more time to explore the setting and characters. It was interesting to see how all the characters were connected through a single event. This one was definitely a ride from start to finish. (No pun intended :P)

Case 3: While practicing for an upcoming play, Conan, Ai, and the rest of the detective kids get interrupted with a man bursting in, followed quickly by Detective Sato and Takagi. After a little mishap of Sato and the runaway convict getting locked up together, the man makes a plea for his innocence. With a limited time box, can Conan find the truth before the clock runs out?

Fantastic start to this case, really hooks you! It has a cute start with the kids and BAM fast paced action chase scene, ending with the mean begging for his freedom after being falsely accused of murder. Absolutely a cliffhanger with Takagi looking down at the kids, all hungry and eager to help solve another case!

Great way to end the volume and forcing you to (happily lol) pick up the next one xD

For Japanese Learners:

Check my previous review on book two for more info. This is a series, so things are gonna be consistent.

Metantei Conan #23: 4 Stars
[6.46 - really great, solid Volume]

This Volume included 2 cases and the first one of a third. The first case was good. The second was really great. The third one has the potential to be amazing.

(1-3 again were a case I had watched in my rewatch and therefor didn't read or rate this time. But I know that it probably would've been plenty of 5s and maybe a 6 or 4 somewhere.)
4 | 6.51
5 | 6.17
6 | 6.87
7 | 6.43
8 | 6.70
9 | 6.90
10 | 6.77

[6 means really great. Which is basically how I feel about this Volume. It was great but since Volume 22 was so incredible I definitely feel good with my rating here being a bit lower]

The first case in this new volume of Case Closed deals with a murder in a movie theater. I think this was a very clever story and it also has another nod to the legendary monster Gomera (which at least at this moment makes me assume the creator is a fan). The next case is a murder at sea aboard a large boat. Everyone appears to have an alibi and slowly as the story unravels we discover that there is a connection between a lot of the people aboard which goes back 20 years!?! Another fun story which starts and ends within this exciting chapter of Case Closed. The final story is only the beginning of it, and will take shape within the next volume, but the story is about a man who is fleeing the cops but claims he is innocent. But, he is convincing enough to get the Junior Detectives to help take on his case. But time is limited and will they be able to uncover the true criminal in time?

The Detective Boys are at the final showing of a movie house and discover an apparent suicide that turns out to be murder! Hattori Heiji joins them on a cruise that concerns a 20 year old bank robbery that resulted in a murder, plus a murder on board and a possible bomber, but the investigation takes a harrowing turn that plunges Hattori into the ocean! The cliff hanger is Sato and Takagi chase down a suspect, but after Sato handcuffs her and the suspect to a toilet, the Detective Boys and the inspectors begin to doubt the suspect's guilt. Really exciting addition to the Detective Conan stories.

I was not the biggest fan of this one. The boat case was just too much for me. Too many threads that needs to meet in order for the plot to make sense, and it's just not done in a very engaging manner in my opinion. Too many characters that just happen to understand the first clue to get onto the boat, and then end up being linked in some way, and again it's done in a way that I couldn't get into.
I also don't have the highest hopes for the case that just began at the end of the volume. Why were the kids in that building to begin with? How is that the best place to practice for a school play? I get that they are kids, but why?

First case: in the cinema someone seems to kill himself but the detective boys have a different idea
Second case: A random group of people goes on a cruise. However they are all connected through a case that happened 20 years ago. Suddenly a murder happens. Great case that also shows how lifes can be randomly connected through a crime
Third case: The police department caught a suspect. Though Sato thinks he might be innocent and Takagi and the detective boys have 1 day to find the real culprit.

All in all a god volume. Especially the case on the boat is awesome.

Beaucoup trop long et tarabiscoté

I was unsure who the culprit was until the end. The dynamics were reconstructed masterfully. Heiji's presence is always enjoyable, even though he played a small role in the investigation this time. The final chapter is suspenseful and exciting.

Thought I would revisit an old favorite of mine. Case Closed is just a good time. Sure they mysteries can't be solved without someone spelling it out, but the adventure and characters are familiar and fun. The series is like a warm, murdery hug.

I absolutely enjoy when Shinichi and Heiji work together on a case. It's nice that they have found a match in each other, and engage in some friendly competition. Their relationship is beginning to be quite endearing.

Aoyama Gosho; DETECTIVE CONAN [Meitantei Conan #23]

e/read online; genre: { manga, mystery, shounen }; shelves: |comics, GN, manga, manhua, manhwa|

General Synopsis:
As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻

V.23, includes Files 222 - 231

DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.

Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.

Characters in this volume:

Personal Opinion:
#1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.

#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!

THE FINAL CURTAIN AT THE OLD THEATRE
The Detective Boys visit a historic theatre on its final day before demolition, eager to watch a special screening of three Gomera films. However, during the second film, the businessman responsible for tearing down the theatre is found hanged. Suspicion falls on four individuals: the theatre clerk, a photographer, the manager, and the projector technician. The mystery takes a curious turn when Mitsuhiko notices the theatre clerk staring at herself in the mirror—an observation that may hold the key to solving the case.

SHADOWS FROM THE PAST AND A DEADLY VOYAGE
A notorious criminal mastermind, known as the Organizer of the Shadows, is assassinated by his own men. Two decades later, Conan, Ran, and Kogoro win an exclusive invitation to a luxurious cruise, unknowingly stepping into a sinister mystery. Kogoro reunites with an old inspector, while Heiji unexpectedly joins them. With only eleven passengers aboard, the voyage turns deadly when one of them is murdered. As tensions rise, they uncover a shocking truth—the infamous Organizer of the Shadows may still be alive and lurking among them.

SATO’S HIGH-STAKES STANDOFF
While chasing a murder suspect through a school building, Detective Sato corners the fugitive but accidentally handcuffs herself to him—trapping them both in a precarious situation. The suspect, accused of killing his boss, pleads his innocence, desperate to catch a flight for his daughter's wedding. With no way to escape, Sato entrusts Detective Takagi with solving the case before time runs out, forbidding him from notifying the police.
