Without a doubt one of the worst books I've ever read. The ONLY positive thing I can say is I didn't pay for it; it was a free download through BookBub. The storyline is beyond ridiculous and the writing is juvenile and stilted. There is no character development, the plot is hard to follow, with little continuity, and, as a whole, the book just doesn't hang together.
Another awful book. Horrid. Miserable. It reads like it was written by a 12 year old. The ideas are preposterous. The plot totally implausible. I kept reading because i wanted to know what caused the 'massacre' in the first place. When i found out, i wished i hadn't bothered. At least i didn't pay anything for it. The good thing: things can only improve with the next book.
I've read both books that Thaman has published so far, and this one is my favorite of the two (though I think his new horror novel is going to be my new favorite). The hipster in me would like to mention I read this when it was called '...but Esau I Hated', it's a shame the publishers changed the title and cover art. The artwork on this book does the writing no justice. This artwork makes it look like a goosebumps book, but it's way more intense than those Nick shows/books you watched/read when you were a kid. Also, if you're a Catholic, you're probably going to hate the beginning of this book, but in my opinion, Thaman had some balls to destroy a historic city, even if it was fictional. If you're into fantasy/adventure novels, I recommend this book.
Honestly, when I quit a book (with 20 minutes left to go on the treadmill and nothing else to read) you know it's bad. This is not a review because that would turn into a rant. This is just my warning to make sure you really, really want to read this book before you pick it up.
Although I was well into this book I stopped reading. The plot is not well constructed, the story is choppy, and the characters are not believeable. Not worth starting.
Extremely far-fetched and left lots of questions unanswered. I felt like I was reading the second or third book in a series. Didn't get enough background on the main character. Interesting, but something's off.
Fascinating premise. If you like a suspenseful scary read, this is it! Thaman is a master of many genres and I expect to see him branch out into new territory, doing it with only the flair he is capable of.
