Roxy Wilson is going through the motions. She's running her deceased grandmother's psychic readings shop, but she's not a psychic. Hoping to expand and just become a gift shop, she contacts her ex-boyfriend, Trevor Dale. Only she doesn't anticipate the feelings she's still having for him after four years of separation. Trevor could never get Roxy out of his system, and now with her so close to him again, he's reluctant to let her go. But a 40 year- old curse involving evil spells and zombies overtaking the small, seaside town of Ocean Pointe may put a stop to any sort of romantic reunion. Can Roxy and Trevor break the curse and save their town from zombies? Find out in my upcoming release Cursed Waters, out later this month! Warning: This book contains spankings and anal play between two consenting adults. If you are offended by this subject matter please do not read this.
Casey McKay is back with another fun spanking romance. Like to Catch a Falling Star, it has a wonderful mix of spankings, sex, relationship issues and great humour. It's such a pleasure to read. Roxy has a problem, she has inherited her grandmother's psychic shop. But that's a bit tricky as Roxy is pretty sure she's not so psychic. While she's redesigning, she calls on the assistant of an old boyfriend, Trevor and they manage to rekindle the flame and talk about the past issues. Roxy also has a problem tenant, a legacy from her grandmother, and she is desperately trying to get her hands on something belonging to her grandmother. While Roxy tries to keep it from the old woman she unwittingly unleashes an old curse, bringing Zombies to life in Ocean Pointe. As Roxy's friend, who also happens to be Trevor's brother seems to somehow get wrapped up in all this, Roxy and Trevor are unwittingly drawn in to save the town, with, wait for it, a breadboard and a wooden spoon. (ok, that's just for starters but it made me laugh my socks off!) Roxy has the ability to save the town but it might just cost her the newly rekindled relationship as Trevor is not impressed at the risks she takes, he doesn't want to lose her again, but yet his stance might just make him walk out on her. I love that the heroine is willing to stand her ground to save the town, but can she save her lost love too? Absolutely marvellous, fun book. Highly recommended. I received an advance review copy of this book from the author, and I'm so glad I did.
This is probably one of the most unique spanking romances I have ever read and I loved it. I know to expect a great story from Casey McKay - excellent writing, well edited, just professional and good. The story itself drew me in from the start - a curse on a town set 40 years earlier, Roxy, the heroine, the only one who has the power to break the spell - but she has no idea how, an ex-boyfriend returning to town and zombies.
The start of the book was downright scary and got very hot very quickly when Trevor came into the picture. Roxy's personality shone throughout the book - she was fun and funny, very human. Trevor was perfect for her - and a perfect Alpha. He loved Roxy but knew what she needed at the same time. Roxy's submission to Trevor was natural, the spankings earned (and hot) the sex that followed hotter if that's possible! And there was a bonus - figging!!
There were parts of the book that were just hilarious and so unexpected. There were parts that were so tender and real that you felt right along with Trevor and Roxy in particular. Loved the premise, loved the spankings, loved the sex.
I don't mean the zombies spank or are spanked, but there are both zombies and hot spankings in this fun book. If you loved Shaun of the Dead, you will love this light story about a curse that brings the dead to life in Ocean Pointe. Roxy and her ex-boyfriend Trevor (who quickly reinstates his role as boyfriend when the trouble hits) are thrown together in a whirlwind adventure to fight the zombie apocalypse. Roxy holds the key to eliminating the curse, but Trevor keeps her from putting herself in danger with some hot spanking and even a delicious figging/whipping scene!
Casey McKay wins my vote for best new spanking romance author on this scene this year. Check out her books!
OK, so no zombies get spanked, which is really a very good thing. Casey McKay does a terrific job with this incredibly imaginative premise. Above all, Roxy is a well-developed character, and her ambivalence about getting back into a spanking-relationship is brought to life vividly. Really I'm only keeping the fifth star back because my tastes run to more serious BDSM. As a spanking romance for Halloween, this book is nearly perfect!
This was an alright story but there were a number of things that had me scratching my head and I didn't like the way they used BDSM in this story. This is the first story I've read by this author and based off this, I'm unlikely to try more of her work in the future.
Roxy is the owner of a mystic shop where they do psychic readings and sell magical implements. The store used to belong to Roxy's grandmother but Roxy is thinking about changing it over to a regular gift shop as she's not into the metaphysical like her grandmother was. To begin the renovations on her shop, Roxy decides to contact her Ex, Trevor, about doing some work on the store.
Trevor is in some sort of construction and lives off the island. Trevor's step-brother, Seaweed, is best friends with Roxy and has been since they were kids. Trevor is a bit older than both of them and he and Roxy didn't hook up until later (4 years ago). They were together for a while but they broke up and Trevor has always seen Roxy as the woman that no other woman could live up to.
TBH, this story had a number of elements in it that seemed to be contradictory or confusing to me. Although they give us some info on Roxy and Trevor's break up, I'm still confused about the details even though I read the whole story. When Trevor and Roxy see each other again, it's just as a big storm is hitting the island and the curse is kicking in. They've both missed each other over the 4 years they've been split up and see this as possibly an opening to get back together. The whole Zombie/curse storyline is mostly secondary, the primary storyline being Trevor and Roxy getting back together (even if their reunion messed with my head).
What messed with my head? Well, apparently they'd been doing spankings before they broke up and I'm guessing it must have been more because even though they'd been apart for 4 years, Trevor was spanking Roxy with a lot more than his hand within hours of their reunion. I knew going into the story that there would be spanking and maybe more but I just didn't like how it played out. Trevor used the spanking as more of a general controlling technique and for things that had nothing to do with sex/bedroom play. They didn't have any set rules once they got back together but Trevor seemed to think that spanking Roxy was a good way to force her into doing what he wanted. It almost seemed like he was acting more like a father, using the spankings as discipline for a child rather than the sexual, BDSM type of spanking I was expecting. Overall, I just didn't really like the way things played out in that area.
The story does end nicely, with the curse taken care of and Trevor and Roxy heading towards their HEA together. I liked Roxy alright and Trevor was ok. I guess this author's writing just wasn't my thing because even if the BDSM elements that disturbed me were excluded, I doubt I would have rated the story much higher than 3-3.5 stars...at least it was a freebie. :)
Absolutely loved this book. The island of Ocean Pointe has a bit of a zombie problem which had been sort-of sorted a couple of generations before by the heroine Roxy's grandmother. But unfortunately had only postponed the problem which Roxy finds she now has to sort out. Not only that but her ex-boyfriend, Trevor, has just come back on the scene and there are a lot of feelings being stirred up which she needs to deal with. The relationship depicted between the two main characters is so believable and flawed and sexy and perfect, that you desperately want everything to turn out OK for them.
I found this book completely gripping from beginning to end. Although I did find myself getting annoyed with the heroes in the same way I do watching horror movies when there is all kinds of bad stuff happening and the heroes decide to take time out to make out with one another. Or in this case, indulge in some totally hot spankings and sex scenes. A little more focus, here, guys? Not that I'm complaining and, you know, I've never been in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, maybe that's exactly what I would do.
Would recommend this to anyone who loves zombies and/or spankings (but not zombie spankings).
I am not normally a cover whore, but in truth this one wouldn't make me stop to read the synopsis, shame really as the story was very good. For a 'shortie it lacked for nothing. Physic happening, zombies, and a good dose of spanking. Very enjoyable indeed.
The one thing that threw me out was having a character named Seaweed. The name itself was odd enough. Throw it into a story set in and around an ocean and it becomes something entirely different again. That said he wasn't a main character. The hero Trevor was delicious, I'd almost let him paddle my backside ;)
