Major Lara McDaniel is a by-the-book type of officer. Being in charge of the Emperor's safety on board the cruiser The Federation and commanding the Imperial bodyguards isn't an easy job, but she's up to the challenge. At least until the entire crew is poisoned and her Emperor kidnapped. Former Squad leader and now space scavenger Riley has had enough of military living to last him forever. He likes his life nice and uncomplicated, going from space station to space station looking to buy, sell, or trade his goods. What he isn't looking for is a bossy Major who commandeers his ship and his help. Riley and Lara must find her Emperor and discover who is behind the kidnapping before an intergalactic war breaks out. Meanwhile, a different sort of war is brewing between Riley and Lara, one that pits Lara's brain against the desires of her body. As the danger increases, so to does the fire that is growing between the two reluctant partners.
Arianna Hart enjoys spending time with her family, reading anything she can get her hands on, and of course writing! She’d love to spend her days on a beach with a drink in one hand and a book in the other, but until she wins the lottery she’ll just have to settle for chasing her girls around the pool.
This is a good read. A very likable hero, lots of adventure, humour and hot sex scenes. I liked the way the hero antagonized the heroine knowing just what buttons to push. Their banter was witty and very enjoyable.
Book 2. Lara and Riley were likable characters. Lust in space is the theme. This is a series but could probably be stand alone. Again, the relationship doesn't really evolve and we're told what the characters are feeling without experiencing it. Probably 2 1/2 stars for a romance, likable characters and entertaining story that has some good humor. Plus, at .99 (at Ellora's cave) can't really complain.
