《西厢记》全名《崔莺莺待月西厢记》。它的曲词华艳优美，富于诗的意境，可以说每支曲子都是一首美妙的抒情诗。是我国古典戏剧的现实主义杰作，对后来以爱情为题材的小说、戏剧创作影响很大。

论辞章华丽，却不如《桃花扇》。桃花扇不集唐，水准高了一大块。
结尾无非大团圆，却苦了郑桓自杀，他的亲姑姑，也只一句安葬了事，赶紧着与新科状元做亲。郑桓除了编造谎言外并无大错，只是这个老夫人行事糊涂，内心虚伪，行为专断，性格冷酷凉薄，实在可厌！
又读元稹《莺莺传》，倒觉得那里的莺莺可爱，而张生可憎！拿了莺莺的书信与人炫耀，又说什么德行不足不可御的话，始乱终弃还得当时赞扬，实在是读不下去！可知本族中有着这样一种劣根性，真可令人耻辱。

definitely good character crafting and all but i think not really the type of storyline i personally like. the ending wedding was a lot more abrupt than i expected but i also get that it was a play. i learnt that 红娘 became synonymous to 媒人 bc of this play so thats cool!
