This book is basically a short list of somewhat common sense things you should do as a manager. I have to admit I was pretty disappointed in the book. I knew it was short but I though the concepts presented would be insightful. However, the ideas were either fairly basic or not described very well. Instead of just providing 20 one paragraph descriptions. It would have been nice if the author put in a little bit of extra effort and added a description of how each of the lessons was realized and a real world description of how it applies in everyday business. Even though the concepts may be valid the lack of context and examples really limits their usefulness and impact.
I like the author's antedotes, but I really wouldn't call this a book. This would have been better as a blog post. Nonetheless, she highlights things that I already know, but are good reminders on how to be a successful professional (whether you own your own business or not).
This is a super short book of 20 chapters and about 20 pages (plus front/back matter of course). Each chapter is a short thought on what it means to be an entrepreneur.
There are lots of great take aways in this short book and it starts right out of the gate with possible the foundational thought for your whole life:
…did you do what you said you would do? And if you didn’t, were you accountable?
Yup it starts off by talking about being a person of your word. Do what you say you will and don’t let the little things like sending an email a day late turn the experience of working with you in to something bad.
There are a number of other things that are great points in this book so yes I think you should read it. Now if I had paid full price for the print version, I probably wouldn’t have been happy, but it was free via Kindle and I certainly would have paid $5-10 for it and come away with some great value.
This was a good sized book, not too long, but also not too short (although some topics could have used a bit more information). The 20 topics it covered I had read about in many other books previously and since. It is nice to get a different perspective on things. None of the topics were really bad or poorly written, they just didn't help me personally.
Short and sweet book written by an experienced intrapreneur who has been to corporate jobs. I enjoyed reading it and it gave me insight into intrapreneurship business. The author suggests core and technical competencies for a successful intrapreneur. I like these types of books where it delivers the message in a concise way.
This was a quick, easy read full of insights from a successful entrepreneur. It is a good introduction for anyone considering entering the business world as an entrepreneur.
