“In places that know more about heaven and hell than we do, you have a reputation, Gabrielle. To them you are known as the devil’s consort.”
When a body shows up near Peel Academy, all signs indicate the killer is a vampire. Ravaged throat, body drained of blood. At least that’s all it appears to be when the Politia, the supernatural police force, assigns Gabrielle to the case. Now it’s Gabrielle’s job to figure out who did it.
But after a second body turns up with the same lethal wounds, it’s clear that a serial killer is stalking the island. The murders have compromised the truce between the Politia and vampires, and as long as the killer roams free, it is in danger of dissolving. If that happens, no vampire is safe from persecution, not even Gabrielle.
Now Gabrielle must team up with Andre, her soulmate and the one person she’s tried to stay away from, to investigate the murders before the truce dissolves. And keeping her distance is proving to be impossible.
But Gabrielle has a bigger problem. The world of the dead know about her, and their whispers hint that something is coming for her. And it’s coming soon.
Found in the forest when she was young, Laura Thalassa was raised by fairies, kidnapped by werewolves, and given over to vampires as repayment for a hundred year debt. She’s been brought back to life twice, and, with a single kiss, she woke her true love from eternal sleep. She now lives happily ever after with her undead prince in a castle in the woods.
… or something like that anyway.
When not writing, Laura can be found scarfing down guacamole, hoarding chocolate for the apocalypse, or curled up on the couch with a good book.

Can we just shut Oliver up, he irks me. He is selfish and self centered and considering he's a secondary character he does get a lot of scene time. The author was probably go for a light gay fairy character that provides the comic relief or something but Oliver is not it, he's making me want to dnf.
Gabrielle is almost raped and what does Oliver do, he asks her if the guy had nice man bits, he moves into her room so that when the next encounter happens he can snag the guy for himself. When Gabrielle is out of sort with Andre he's always going on about how sexy Andre looks and whether they have done the deed yet. I just don't like him.
I have a question, why do authors make their female heroine barely legal if they are going to be with someone way older than them. Gabrielle is 16 and the 700 year old Andre is her soulmate, she is a vampire and a siren so they always have this intense chemistry that almost results in sex when they are close to each other. I feel like the same thing can be achieved if she was 18 or 20. Maybe it's just me.
3.8 stars It's an Harry Potter meets Twilight meets magical creatures and serial killers kind of novel. I would have preferred a more developed story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I started off liking this book a lot more than the first one, and I was pretty into it. Then I got to page 70ish and that changed.
I AM SICK OF AUTHORS WRITING SEXUAL HARASSMENT/ASSAULT/RAPE INTO A BOOK, BUT ACTING AS IF THAT'S NOT WHAT IT WAS AND HAVING THE CHARACTERS IGNORE IT!!!
Gabrielle literally woke up in the middle of the night to a naked man on top of her, attempting to sway her into having sex with him. She had to kick him off of her and she screams. But she isn't shaken by it, and her roommates reaction is 'wow his man bits were huge' and 'Oliver will be so jealous' and when Gabrielle is like yo what the fuck, she says 'sorry I had to give you a hard time.' WHAT?!?!? WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? WHAT KIND OF FRIEND ARE YOU? NAY, WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU?!? Then Oliver proceeds to start sleeping in their room because he was indeed jealous and wants to be there next time to see the good looking naked man. I repeat, WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? And then she keeps saying how much she loves her friends and how awesome they are. No. Just NO.
Also at the end the devil says that they spent the whole night he kidnapped her 'making love' and it's too bad she can't remember it.... WHAT?!?!? And then it's just never mentioned again??? And it's not at all mentioned that that would be rape??? For a third time, WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?
Now that I finished that part of the rant I'll say that Gabrielle is officially an idiot and she was really annoying the whole book, as was basically everyone else. The only person who semi redeemed themselves was Andre, but he also was a jackass at some moments. He does get some points though for being the only one concerned about the naked men showing up in her room in the middle of the night. But of course his concern was written to look a bit like male jealously, or at least that how Gabrielle viewed it because she's a moron.
Every time the devil appeared I couldn't really take him seriously because I just kept thinking about Lucifer from the show and I was like nah this aint the devil. But that's my own thing. He was actually written decently well.
I still might continue on with this series because I love vampire and supernatural school stories. Also these stories are short and easy reads. But damn I hope they get better.
Oh and on the positive side, at least the cover actually kind of looks like her this time...
This book wasn't as good as book 1. There just wasn't a lot that happened. In the first book there was non stop crazy shit happening. Gabrielle was constantly fighting for her life. She was a bad ass who took care of herself.
In this book the end was obviously really good. That's a given when it comes to Laura. However the leading up to the end just was eh to me. The only interesting things that kept happening were the visitors to her dreams.
However, the relationship build up for Gabrielle and Andre was PERFECT! I love that they're taking things slow. No matter how much I want the smut. I like the slow route that they're going. I love their bickering. Andre has his work cut out for him. :D
AND! Oliver! I FUCKING LOVE OLIVER! He is the gay guy best friend that I want for myself! OMG! He is absolutely hilarious! His sass cracks me up! He's just so damn funny. I am constantly laughing at his lines of dialogue.
Bought the second book in this series within a hour of finishing the first one. I absolutely love the chemistry between Gabrielle and Andre. Awesome book. I am dying for the next one!
I just love gabrielle and Andre's relationship.. so beautiful and pure.. I will admit that this wasnt as good as the first book which was non stop action.. but even with it being a little more slow paced I still loved it
Better than the first book, but still not my favorite series. The plot was predictable, none the less though I still enjoyed this more than the first book. It's a very addicting series, I'll give it that 👌🏼
Okay, so nothing really big happened in book two. Nice bridge I guess.
****************
Plot: ► Bodies turn up all around Peel, and the suspected killer is a vampire, naturally, Gabrielle, being the youngest of the vamps, is the one people fix their suspicions on. ► Gabrielle reluctantly accepted a job at the Politica, which is like the supernatural police. Turns out the politica are actually douches, and they annoyed me soooo much. ► Loving the romance, I felt like Andre actually never fit the description of a 'bad boy', there wasn't enough of a character arc going on. People said he was, and he was just different to Gabrielle. ► The Devil!!! Somehow he's behind all this, and we are due to find out more.
****************
Liked: ♥ The overall plot was just really good! I love the sense of foreshadowing here and the feeling that something big is about to happen. ♥ The characters are fun and enjoyable to read, and Gabrielle's PoV is really enjoyable. ♥ The truce, and how this supernatural world works is really quite imaginative and unique.

Didn't so much like: ■ Caleb is just annoying me now, his presence is not needed as a third love interest, and it's just pissing off Andre (and me). ■ Still don't enjoy Oliver. He's wayyy too energetic, but then I suppose he is a fairy and I'm just moody. ■ Kinda hoped the crimes would have been looked into a bit more, so it can be like a murder mystery in a fantasy supernatural novel. But nope, one smell with your vampire nose and you've got the killer, I guess!
As required: I received this book through one of the Goodreads giveaways.
Now, for the good stuff.
I haven't read the first one. Haven't even LOOKED at the first one. But after reading this, I want to. It's next on my "to buy" list.
When the "vampire" aspect was brought in, I admit I rolled my eyes - I'm not a big vampire book fan. However, Laura Thalassa definitely put a spin on the whole world that made it an enjoyable read. Seers and Witches and Fairies and... shifters? Point being, it included different types of "supernaturals" or "mythologicals" than just the requisite vampires and shifters and other "baddies" you often find. I mean hey, if you're going to go creative on one aspect of the supernatural, why not just assume they all exist as well and have as much fun as possible?
Now, while it's apparent that the heroine could be considered a young adult, this doesn't necessarily read like a YA novel, which was a VERY pleasant surprise. I find her closest friends to be a good balance for her and actually bring something to the story.
There's not a lot I can criticize about this book. I wasn't hopeful at first, but as I read I found myself engaged and unwilling to put the book down. I was worried about the relationship between Gab and Andre, but was pleasantly surprised with their interaction. For the situations they were in, the situation I picked up on them leaving just a few months ago, and for Gab's headspace, it had just the right amount of tension without going overboard and shattering that element.
I am interested in following this story futher. I want to know why the Devil is after her - and I definitely want to know about this whole "vampire/siren" thing. And what's up with the fates involvement? There are questions left unanswered that intrigue me, and I definitely want to find out more.
I don't even know what to say about this book. Actually yes I do it was AMAZING. I am signed up to the newsletter so as soon as I found out the book was finally released I bought it right away. I just love Gabrielle and Andre's relationship and as the book progressed I found myself actually in awe over it. I love this series so much I would have to say it's pretty high up on my favorites list and I can't wait for the next installment.
At least Gabrielle and Andre finally ceased to denounce their "soulmate" relationship. Too bad for handsome, especially talented Caleb who was attracted to her. Too bad for Leanne who would always be the friend who sacrifices and gives and loves and cherishes a friend who is busy going out and about her way. Too bad for the Devil whose attempts at luring his intended failed but no worries, the story goes on to another novel.
Overall Rating: 3.5 stars Heroine: No one puts Gabrielle in a corner Dude: Can I be his “home?!” Steaminess: So much shirtlessness Brutality: Bodies drained of blood
If you haven’t read The Unearthly by Laura Thalassa or our review of it then we’d recommend you stop reading this and go do that. We don’t want to spoil the series for you so far!
This book wasn’t as good as The Unearthly in our opinion but it was a lot more fun. Mostly because Oliver is the best friend all girls should have. Case in point this quote: “If he so much as tries to lay a finger on you, I’ll glitter bomb the shit out of him.” If you don’t have a best friend that threatens to glitter bomb the shit out of your enemies are you even living? Oliver made this book enjoyable and we would read an entire series just about him and his glittering bombing shenanigans.
In typical Thalassa fashion this book is full of mystery, brutality, and relationship drama. The story revolves around Gabrielle and Andre trying to solve a series of murders of supernaturals who are drained of blood and life. Meanwhile, they are attempting to salvage their relationship and save Gabrielle from the Devil. Sounds exhausting right? Add in vague riddles, creepy dreams and seers who are losing their shit and all together this book is a mystery. But, what this story was missing for us was less badass ass kickery from Gabrielle. We loved Gabrielle’s ruthlessness in The Unearthly and want more ass kicking in the next book.
Andre is still his barbaric caveman self, but we see him becoming more human with Gabrielle's influence which made us happy. He has the makings of an amazing book boyfriend and we can’t wait to see what he does in The Cursed.
This quote from 84% really sums up what I have been thinking since book one: "This was one of those moments where I really wished I knew more about how this world worked."
Thats right ladies and gentleman, right from the FMC's mouth right there! This is the main problem I have with these stories. The FMC has no idea what she is doing, or what she is stepping off in. She just runs off half cocked, living on a prayer.. with no knowledge, and seemingly no desire to get the knowledge necessary to survive. She has no self preservation instincts that I can see, and she is still kind of hostile to those trying to help her. I find myself getting so irritated with her that I can't even enjoy whatever story is happening.
As far as I can tell this book went like I have listed above with one extra tidbit... The devil wants Gabrielle for .... reasons I guess because nothing is clear and it seems noone is concerned with a mere "why?"
Calling for a break from this FMC maybe I'll be better able to handle her after some time off lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A second book I loved, very emotional and full of twists (so much sexual tension with Andre ><) (And the Devil who is just FRIGGIN SCARY !!) (BUT I don't understand why she works for Politia aka the guys who would surely be happy to crucify her ...) I realize after two whole books read that we are in the same universe as Des and Callie !! I really have to start reading books in the right order xD
Better than the first installment. The characters seem a little better-developed and more realistic (except for André, who is way too much of a dreamboat) and the sleuthing adds dimension to the story and the world-building.
Not a masterpiece, but a pretty good read — a hint of Anita Blake, a pinch of Stephanie Plum (though Gabrielle could sure do with a bit more self-irony). 3 1/2 stars.
Another fast paced, addictive story. Such an easy read I flew through this one.
I found the arc of the plot very intriguing and enjoyed the mystery of the murders. I love how Leanne and Oliver are still getting plenty of page time.
I only wish the Devil was more nicer to Gabrielle to have a love triangle situation, I also wish that Andre was more protective as I don't think its very realistic for him to give into Gabrielle's every whim. If he wanted to stop her doing something I'm sure he could.
Wow. I actually enjoyed this book better than the first. There wasn't a dull chapter. It had ALL the supernatural plus serial killers plus a super wonderful love story. There were minor issues such as a few typos but it didn't take away from the experience of the book. I am finding this series wildly entertaining. I just want to ignore all of my adult responsibilities and read the next book!
Andre is the perfect love interest. Gabrielle is so much more fierce and yet more vulnerable in terms of Andre in this one. She's just so much more developed and I love it. I love her friends and their school. I just living in the fantasy world that Laura has created in these books! and there were so many twists and turns in the plot. Love.
I liked that the book has Vampires, (Andre kinda kept me reading on... he's got the "it" /King thing going. Plus, there are lots of other super-naturals, and Gabriella is learning to use more of her powers. So, it still reminds me of "Harriette Potter" meets Twilight, with shifters , a funny fairy, and lots of "bad guys"... the Devil, even... trying to kidnap or kill our heroine. I just don't like her personality much (still), and both she and her friends can be annoying... found myself skipping pages when they'd come around. Trigger warning: near rape, which she and her friends don't take seriously, which made me cringe.
An enjoyable second instalment in the series, it's nicely paced and kept me interested throughout the entire book. I'm still somewhat unsettled by the youth of our main character, however the lack of spice between characters does help. I can see this series (so far) being very much aimed at a YA audience.
The Coveted starts with the action right away as the first chapter features a witch who is attacked by an unknown being. It continues the story of Gabrielle Fiori months after The Unearthly, and Gabrielle is now a member of the Politia. She is assigned to the case of that murder, and the rest that follows. And that’s the least of her worries. The truce between the vampires and other supernaturals is endangered and she is being haunted by the world of the dead.
When I started reading The Coveted, I had already forgotten a lot of what I read from The Unearthly, but I was still pretty much hooked. It kept me on my toes with all the things happening in the story. Honestly, I felt like I had a mood disorder when I was reading this. I was scared, laughing, contemplative, swooning, etc. all in a matter of pages. Or maybe it felt shorter than it was. But Laura Thalassa could surely play with my emotions as I easily felt affected by the story.
I’m not really sure what to feel about the romance, but I’m definitely still head over heels for Andre. Gabrielle still can’t fully accept parts of Andre’s beliefs and personality, but there is an irresistible bond between the two of them. I know Gabrielle is definitely attracted to Andre, and they are adorable together. Andre even shows a more vulnerable side, and I guess he’s really working on himself so that he can keep Gabrielle. I think Gabrielle should accept that she can’t change everything about Andre, even if his actions can be really bad. Sometimes he’s just really driven by his deep emotions, and he carries the weight of the vampire world on his shoulders.
My favorite part of the book would definitely be Gabrielle’s best friend, Oliver. He’s a gay fairy that doesn’t take no for an answer. He shamelessly eats all of their candy and he even moved into their room without their consent. He’s incredibly hilarious and amusing, even in such inappropriate moments. Even though he doesn’t really respect Gabrielle and Leanne’s privacy sometimes, he’s still a really great friend who genuinely cares for the two girls. He just looks out for the both of them. He’s definitely a friend I would love to have.
The man in the suit is still definitely after Gabrielle, which made his minions come after her as well. I wonder how the rest of the series would be developed. Laura Thalassa has chosen a very powerful antagonist, and I’m not really sure how Gabrielle could win. I’ve heard there a lot more books in this series. I hope it doesn’t drag out things too much, but if they’re all as good as the first two books then that would be really great.
I was alarmed when it was mentioned that this sequel had more mature language. I think that The Coveted was a little more explicit than The Unearthly, but still fairly clean as compared to a lot of the books nowadays. It consisted of swear words, sexual situations, and more bloody violent scenes. I was affected by these, but none of it really turned me off.
OVERALL, The Coveted is yet another amazing read from Laura Thalassa, and it was a mental rolled coaster ride that dabbles in murders, supernatural politics, relationships, and the underworld. I felt like I had a mood disorder with the gripping, fast-paced plot that made me react in all kinds of ways, and I mean that in a good way. One can find supernaturals, humor, romance, suspense, action, and mystery all wrapped into one book.
The Coveted picks up where the first book, The Unearthly ended…full of action and intrigue. A vicious murder creates problems for the new vampire: Gabrielle. She being a vampire automatically makes her a suspect, naturally. *rolls eyes* Moving on… So, since being part of a supernatural task force, Gabrielle is assigned to investigate the murder,and she thinks if she can figure out who the culprit is, she can clear her name. Only more murders pile in and Gabrielle is suspended in order to keep the peace. She is also ordered to contact the head vampire in her coven…Andre. Okay, so I was jumping for joy here. I so wanted Gabrielle and Andre to find their way back to one another. I mean, they’re soul mates for crying out loud! Gabrielle ends up caving and her first conversation with Andre—after being separated from him for so long—is just super sweet. So, with their relationship on the mend you’d think everything would be hunky—dory. No, that’d be way too easy. The devil is determined to make Gabrielle his. Add more murders, her best friend, Leanne and her really odd mood changes, Caleb still wanting something more than friendship with her, and Oliver’s funny commentary on ‘Everything Gabrielle and Andre,’ and you’ve got one hell of a hard book to put down. In fact, I ended up reading The Coveted in one sitting…but now I want more. Of course Laura Thalassa’s follow up is just as, if not more thrilling to read than the first book.
