Deception Lies and Chocolate Muffins ... the guilty secrets of a wayward school teacher

Rate this book
The curtains are twitching in Witchert Close, but Hattie and Nick will soon be leaving it all behind for their dream cottage in the country. They deserve it, they work hard and only have eyes for each other, but in the months leading up to their relocation, the local gossips are given more then enough fuel for their scandal-mongering fires.

There seemed to be a writer in me, trying to burst out at the age of ten. It all started when I wrote plays for my poor press-ganged friends to perform, although I bagged the best role for myself! Into teenage years the plays, skits and sketches kept coming - for my Grammar school friends at that time - and I daydreamed about writing a whole book one day. The sketches usually had some comic element about them.

At teacher training college I tried my hand at poetry and was heavily into music composition - not surprising as I took music as my main subject.
As a newly fledged teacher I had little time for my own written creativity and later, as a mum there were a few barren years in that department apart from stitching and knitting for my offspring.

My musical compostions returned in the 1980s and 3 full-scale musicals were written. This was quite a surprise to me, as I hadn't set out to write something so elaborate! When people used to quote "there's a book inside everybody" I didn't think it included me. However, it wasn't until I'd retired from teaching and moved to the small Dorset town where I'm currently living that I rose to the challenge of finding out if there was a book inside me!
While waiting to serve customers in my own fair trade shop I kept a notebook on the counter and started to write my first novel. Later, at home, I'd type up the few hundred words that I'd managed to write while at work in the shop. The process took a whole year. Then after another 2 years, when nothing happened, I took a long hard look at it and decided some stringent revision was needed. That took another year.

Submitting the finished - but very lengthy - story to publishers then took three months before anyone showed interest. Perseverance was my middle name, I think, and the encourgement of established authors who have written about the importance of staying focussed.

Wow! I loved reading Deception Lies and Chocolate Muffins by Jennie Ann Rake. This novel is very interesting full of guilty secrets of a Wayward teacher and local gossip. How did Hattie really feel about the man Leo Marcello disappearing from her life?.
I would urge all readers to keep a watch out for Jennie Ann Rake's next book as I can not wait for the next book published by Jennie.
I have a sweet tooth and just love the cover it made me want to eat some muffins while I was so into the story about Hattie. Not only is there an exciting story about Hattie in Deception Lies and Chocolate Muffins but there is a yummy chocolate muffin recipe. I think with the delicious muffin recipe maybe the author could try to publish a cook book.
I hope many readers enjoy reading Deception Lies and Choclate Muffins as much as I have.
