Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.

If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil

I've read two of these books. Influential Magic, and Maggie for Hire. If they are any indication of the quality then I most certainly will be buying the bundle just to read the rest.
I've thoroughly enjoyed all of Deanna Chase's books, and can't wait to find out what happens next in Willows life.
Maggie for Hire is the first in a series of three thus far that I've also avidly read. I can't wait until the next Maggie adventure comes out.
I'm sure the other four stories will be just as great, and what a bargain at the price.

SACRIFICED IN SHADOW by SM Reine: (4.5 Stars) This is the first book I have read by SM Reine and it will most certainly not be my last! In this first book of The Ascension Series, we are introduced to a Demon Hunter (Aka Godslayer), Elise Kavanaugh! Elise has some unusual talents that make her highly qualified to deal with the evilly possessed and traumatized citizens! I love Reine's descriptive writing style which draws the reader into a unique paranormal world that is dark and raw with emotions! Great read! I highly recommend it!
CRIMSON NIGHT by Marie Hall: (4 Stars) This gothic paranormal adventure was very imaginative and dark. Marie Hall's writing draws you deep into this strange world with vivid details and characters that will blow your mind! Pandora is an unusual heroine in that she's beautifully flawed and literally battles the demon half of herself, Lust, for dominance! This book was an wildly original paranormal fantasy that I enjoyed!
IRRESISTIBLE MAGIC by Deanna Chase: (5 Stars) This first book in her new Crescent City Fae series is a spell-binding masterpiece! You will fall in love with our faery heroine Willow and the two gorgeous hunks, David and Tal, that she finds herself ensnared with in a love triangle! All set in New Orleans, with enhanced edibles, faes, witches, and vampires, you will be drawn into this paranormal fantasy world from page 1!! Read this book! It will not disappoint!
I will update my review as I finish each book in this set!

Sterling:
It all begins in the world we all know. Nothing strange, here. And BAM. I will just say that Sterling is filled with WTH moments. I didn't, at any point, want to put it down. And I gobbled up each and every subsequent Mageri installment, immediately upon release. Dannika Dark is a beautiful writer. She has painted a universe that is so unique to any of the paranormal/urban fantasy novels I have ever read. The world she created in Sterling opens the door to endless storylines. Many Mageri fans have read her series multiple times (self included). There are a lot of new discoveries and a'ha moments second time around. Dannika Dark will be alluring us with her works for a very long time.

Influential Magic:
I love this book and can't get enough of Deanna Chase. I was initially sucked in by her Jade Calhoun series. She develops interesting and intriguing characters and her fantasy worlds are addictive.
... A beautiful faerie... mysterious bad-boy ex... sexy guy from the past.. hot vamps... secret arcane government operations.. corruption and mind-control... crazy badass bff... fluffy lap dog who shifts to ferocious wolf... magical confections... What else could you ask for? Influential Magic is a well-thought out first in a series that leaves you begging for more. A must-read!

If Dannika Dark and Deanna Chase are any indication, this is going to be a GREAT box set! I cannot wait to read the others!!

I was very pleasantly surprised with this $.99 (yeah, I got it for a special price) collection. I'm not going to paste all the individual reviews that I did- I did review every book.

Overall, this was a great collection. The authors were new to me and I definitely discovered a few who would make read more.

I finished all but one of the books. I could not bring myself to finish reading Sterling. I started it, but I'm not sure how much I finished since my progress was measured over all the books, not just one. I closed out of the collection with 90% finished.

Would I recommend this series? Yes! This was a collection of books and not novellas. Readers are able to get more exposure to an author by reading an entire book and not just a novella. It would not surprise me at all if readers ended up adding to their authors that they must read.
Although I might not have added many to my purchase before the release date, I have added a few to my list that I will read again.

I have only read Influential Magic, so far, but I can't wait to read the others!

I absolutely loved Influential Magic! It has New Orleans, faeries, vampires, and magic infused sweets! One of my favorite things is Link. He is a shi tzu that turns into a wolf when his owner is threatened.

The book was nonstop excitement with new twists all the time. It did an amazing job of starting off Willow's story, and I can't wait to see what comes next! If you love Deanna Chase's Jade Calhoun series, you'll love this too!

I WILL UPDATE THIS REVIEW AS I READ THE OTHER STORIES WITHIN!!

STERELING:::** spoiler alert ** Ok, first things first I have never been SO on the sidelines in a book as much as I was when I read this book! I DREAMT about READING IT (no, not being in the book, or having fantasies about the hunks in this book, (of which there were quite a few to choose from... Adam being my FAV so far) but I dreamt the words on the page and actually READING the book) whenever I fell asleep reading because I was not able to find a "good stopping point" (as my best friend calls it) because THERE WASN'T A GOOD STOPPING POINT!!! I have never been laughing so hard from Page ONE in anything besides the Sunday comics as a kid... Might I just begin this all by saying....

Sterling is the first book in the Mageri series by Dannika Dark, and by far my reason for loss of sleep the last 2 days... That is right!! I read this book cover to cover in 2 days.. (I have a three year old mind you so she had to be cared for otherwise I am positive I would have finished it faster lol)We begin the story as Zoë in bed and after a short persuasive call from her BFF Sunny, they went out for a night out. At the end of their evening, Sunny drops Zoë off at a train station for her to make her way home on her own from there. Zoë's night however was not going to end as simply as she intended. On her way home Zoë is aprehended by force by a strange man who KILLS HER!!! That was what kept me reading!! The MAIN character of the book DIES in the first chapter!! I was shocked to say the least!! Hours pass and Zoë awakens in the back of an ambulance in a friggin body bag! She frees herself and manages to take off through the woods and comes across Adam Razor **swoon** who takes her back to his home and cares for her! When Zoë awakens she sees that her hair (originally red) was jet black and her eyes now bright vibrant green! Even her voice was different..! Zoë and Adam after a few small feats of whether or not to trust the dutiful hero come to a very warming relationship (platonic however since she ZAPPED him when he kissed her). Adam is a photographer and ex-military ends up getting a photography gig in Tennessee and brings Zoë along for the ride after realizing that that the man that killed her was hunting her down. While in TN, Zoë decides that being this far from her killer that she would be safe enough to go out to a bar and encounters Justus. From Zoë's description of Justus, he is a very well built brick sex appeal marinated powerhouse! While leaving the bar (accompanied by Justus as his chivalry begins to show just a bit) Zoë is approached by some men and while trying to protect her we learn that Zoë is not human, but Mage. Justus accompanies Adam(who by this time has not only found Zoë but managed to think she needed rescuing from Justus) and Zoë to Adam's hotel room where he tells the pair that the man that "killed" her was a creator of Mage and that Zoë was his creation. Justus warns Adam that she needs to be taught and that there are laws set in place by the Breed (basically anything non-human) that Zoë needed to learn and that Adam could not properly teach Zoë or protect her. So, having been given Justus' business card, Zoë calls him and is then taken by him to the council. (They are basically, the law-keepers.) Justus is made Zoë's Ghuardian (yessiree, I spelled it right.. ). Zoe, making great headway in her training with Justus and beginning to gain a grasp of the Mage history and laws, is rather abruptly introduced to Simon. Simon holds secrets himself as we come to learn later on that he too was forcefully made Mage as well. Simon is a breath of fresh air however when he gets Justus to let his guard down and allow the three of them to go out for a night on the town. but avast.... while out, Zoë(here on out called Learner as that is her title within the Mage, a new baby-like Mage... and learning... hence, "Learner") is attacked by a juicer(a Mage that for all intensive purposes seems like a light(Mage power) addict(much like a heroin addict). The learner is taken back to Justus' home by Simon and NEARLY succumbs to his allure and sex appeal but they are interrupted by the homecoming of Justus and that comes to a screeching halt. A little later on(this book is fast paced, you go from chapter to chapter and jump in time as you turn your page) we find out that the learner's creator has stepped forth in the eyes of the Council and intended to claim her (Mage law states your creator owns you until he decides you can be free...not my favorite part but her, you can't like everything in a book can ya? lol). Justus and Simon decide that this was not going to be left alone and upon awarding the learner back to her creator he gives the learner a name (since in the Mage law, you abandon your name and are GIVEN one by your creator) and her creator names her Silver. The Counsel decides that since Silver's creation was not common, that in a week the parties would return and someone could fight to have Silver. Then Samil(Silver's creator) takes her back to his house and puts her in a basement and literally beats her and tries to get her to beg to be healed... (oh forgot to mention that tidbit.... Mage are immortal... and heal faster... so Silver was not able to be killed per-se' and could heal faster than a human, but another Mage could heal her if he/she decided) Also, while down in her creator's basement Silver is pimped out for her light to a man that appears to be paying Samil to create Mage and sell to him. After the tables are turned on Samil by his dealmaker, Samil decides to go out and kill Silver to stop the dealmaker from having leverage or trying to take his cut basically. Samil hesitates and decides to "taste" Silver's light just the same as he was allowing his dealmaker to do daily and has a FAST change of mind and decides to KEEP Silver because we learn she is a Unique (not much known on this subject other than it a very VERY special Mage Type and is not seen often... Having given Simon and Justus her location (like how I did that hmm? didn't tell you when or how, just that she had..... wanna find out how?? read the book.. hehe) they come to her rescue just in the knick of time. While Silver had been away, Simon and Justus had contacted Adam and decided that HE would be the one to fight for Silver. Since the Council would level the playing field, this meant that Adam could get the revenge on Samil that he has been seeking for apparently a LOT longer that the night he met Silver(as Zoë). In the end of this all, the battle takes place with my on the edge of the couch cheering in dead silence at my Kindle for Adam to kick Samil's ass and Adam wins....barely. Adam retained a fatal wounding throughout the fight that he would have died from if another option had not been presented him by an unsuspecting member of the scene (Im not tellin... so there... :-P ) and Silver is placed back with her Ghuardian(Justus) and taken home.
Like I said I loved this book!! If you are looking for a bunch of sex and erotica, keep moving because nobody has sex in this book.... a few close calls.... but nothing completed. BUT if you are looking for a new book, with twists and turns all along the way and moments that you are laughing your ass off one sentence and then gasping in shock and yelling at characters to do your bidding.... then this is the book for you!! I can not wait to read Twist and see what else happens in this series!!

I give it 5 shields!!!! (I would give it 10 if it was an option!! lol but alas, I stuck with the 5 star rating method widely used by every site I have found!! lol

Saw this on my Kobo some days ago, was bored and started reading it.
Most of them give fantasy (supernatural, paranormal, magic, whatever) a bad and boring name. Imagine my surprise when I checked my purchases and saw that I actually paid money for this contraption some years ago! Yeah, sure, it was just 99cents, but, still...!

I've reviewed each individual story on their different pages on goodreads. I didn't finish SACRIFICED IN SHADOW, CRIMSON NIGHT, INFLUENTIAL MAGIC and MAGGIE FOR HIRE.

The 3 story-compilation of FAIRY TALES AND EVER AFTERS is the reason I'm giving this set 3 stars. I finished all 3 stories of FAIRY TALES AND EVER AFTERS. They were not perfect, but at least they entertained me.

I'm reading STERLING at the moment, and looks like there's a zombie or a Wolverine in it, I'm not sure. If I get over the sick sappy lovey dovey eyes part of it/description of a beautiful rugged man/romance...or lust, and I can really get to the magic/fantasy part, then, I'll try to finish.

Yeah, it's now evening of September 7. And STERLING is the silliest book I've read in a while. I tossed it far from me (electronically), never ever EVER to return to it. I stopped at chapter 9.

To be honest, I accidentally wandered into paranormal romance. It's really not my thing. I don't mind a bit of romance (Mercy Thompson, and Harry Dresden-style, that is) but I'd rather there was a case, or some sort of mystery to solve, or world-save-age or something. And I read this one after reading another anthology (Six Times a Charm) so my review is probably influenced by that as well (i.e. the previous anthology is practically light-hearted compared to this one). So absolutely take my words with a grain of salt. :)

I really was flip-flopping between 1 and 2 stars. The reason I ended up giving it 2 is b/c I didn't actively hate the books in the collection. The worldbuilding, creativity, and plots were pretty good for most of the books. The characters were kinda hit or miss for me (which is definitely subjective!). I actually read them all, so there was something about them that kept me turning pages. :)

So, in general-- The worldbuilding was interesting enough in most cases, but I really wanted to push several (well, a lot) of the characters down a flight of stairs, or maybe out a window, or invest in some industrial strength duct tape-- pretty much anything to get them to shut up and/or go away.

One of the books-- The plot was interesting. The magic/worldbuilding was something I hadn't seen before. The ending left me a bit cold though (not sure exactly why, just a vague bit of dissatisfaction), and I felt that we really didn't get enough into who/what the main character actually was. That being said, I know that this is the first book in a series, so if I choose to read more, I might find out more. And I might start liking the main character a bit more once I know more about her. (That being said, I really didn't like any of the other characters in the book. And I'm not actually sure I was supposed to like any of them.) WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- MAYBE

Another book-- I liked the main character (to a point), and the worldbuilding was definitely interesting. The plot was twisty and well-developed enough. I thought the 'love/lust interest' parts were horrific. It felt like being smothered in a series of bad relationships. I pretty much wanted her to ditch every single person she came across (friend, foe, supposed friend, supposed foe, complete strangers, etc) in the book except for the dude the author killed off. I would've happily read more about him. But the worst part is that the guy I'd call her on/off bf is never going to let her go, so as much as I'd hate advocating it, I hope her character kills him off at some point. It just seems so Luke and Laura where the writers had her wail 'he had one bad day' when it was absolutely filmed as a rape scene. *ugh* WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- MAYBE

A third book, hmmm... I really wanted to like it. I mean, the premise sounds fantastic and exactly like something I would love. But I really wanted to dropkick *all* of the characters except two to the curb (and one of those didn't even talk). Seriously, where's a vat of acid when you need it. The plot reminded me a bit of a scooby-doo adventure-- perfectly fun for an afternoon read-- but the main character spent most of the time letting things happen to her, and when she did *choose* to do things they were pretty stupid things to do. It took me a while (picking it up and putting it down) but I did finish it. I've read another of this author's work and I can say that I liked that main character a lot better. WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- NO

And in the fourth book, I liked *four* characters. :) They were all from the last part. I didn't particularly care for the worldbuilding (I've seen that particular scenario done before), and some of the generalizations were seriously horrifying. Basically I went through two-thirds of the book saying 'Are you fucking kidding me?!?' the whole time. I quit reading this one several times (more than the book above) b/c I hated every single character I'd come across so far. I did eventually go back and finish it, and the last part (while not worth all the trauma of reading the first bits) was definitely more bearable, almost pleasant even. I liked four of the characters. The good guys weren't perfect, but they tried to do the right thing. And the 'bad guys' did bad things, but weren't evil all the way through (stupid and arrogant, but not entirely evil). My favorite part in the whole book was when the 'princess' decked the king. I kind of wish that I would've read that last part separately, b/c it would've made me want to read more from the author. WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- NO

The second to last book I'd read before. The dialogue and writing were good. I can't pin down actual bits, but 'snappy' is the description that comes to mind. The main character seemed to have more sense and even though the plan was somewhat ridiculous (in the fun 'rag-tag band tries to fight a huge army and comes up with a plan to infiltrate' type of way) it works out in logical (lol, for a given value of logical, that is) fashion. I didn't automatically hate any of the characters. I thought the bad-guy was a bit cartoonish, but not so much as to take away from my overall like of the book. I think I've read the second book in the series, but I'm not sure. WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- MAYBE (AND MAYBE I ALREADY HAVE)

The last book-- I liked it for the most part. I didn't like how everyone was pretty much falling all over themselves for the main character (that seemed awfully mary-sue-ish), but I liked the main character for the most part. She had things happen to her, but she kept trying to make sensible choices with the options she had. I hate the whole 'love triangle' (love-square?)thing, so I'm hoping all that isn't dragged out too much. WOULD I READ THE NEXT IN THE SERIES-- PROBABLY

A fun set of books!

I very much enjoyed each book in this set, each for its own reason. I'm a fan of the genre, and this did not disappoint. Wishing I could find the following books to Marie Hall's series. Definitely going to look into picking up the rest of the Magiri series, by Danika Dark.

Fun, sexy and magical

If you love fantasy and romance mixed with magic, this is a great starter set to get! I had already read a couple of the authors in other stand-alone world and this is a good mix.

I fully enjoyed each story in this boxed set. It was nice that they were full books and gave me a feeling of each author's style of writing. If you are looking for new stories or authors then check out this set, I seriously doubt that you will be let down.

I've read Crimson Night so far and will review that, I will edit and add to this as I read the others in this boxed set.

Crimson Night Review
I usually only give 5 stars to books I know I'll re-read and this one is no exception. This is an excellent first book to a series. The first part of the book is devoted to character introduction and world building. Not only are the MCs fully developed; I got to know and like the secondary characters and their unique personalities. I spent a summer working for a traveling carnival when I was young (great way to see the south) and Marie Hall brings Carnivale Diabolique to life. I could see and smell the midway. I fell into the story from page one and didn't put it down until I finished it really late at night. I loved everything about this story from the plot and characters to the fact that the writing was faultless (to my eyes anyway). The pacing was quick and perfect for the book.

Pandora is one of the strongest paranormal heroines I've read in a while. Don't get me wrong she has her issues to deal with, anyone of her age and having another to share your mind and body would. Pandora also sees herself as weak at times and she's so far from it.

The mystery/suspense kept me turning the pages. It wasn't so easy to figure out and it was just enough angst to keep me on the edge, but not so much that it got frustrating. The sex was well done with the right amount of detail that it was very hot and steamy without overwhelming the rest of the book.

I'm impatiently waiting for the story to continue. I recommend this to anyone looking for a well written paranormal that will have you laughing and then tearing up at times this is the one for you.

This review is from: Magic After Dark Boxed Set (Six Book Bundle) (Kindle Edition)

Just finished the set of books. Marie Hall and Deanna Chase were authors I had read before, but the others were new to me.

I feel like the stories really complemented one another. With the main tendril being some form of magic for each of the main characters, it made for an enjoyable read.

I will definitely be looking for more books from each of the authors.

Btw, congratulations to the six authors for making USA Today Best Seller list. Quite an accomplishment and well deserved from the stories I read.

SM Reine is such an amazing author, her plots keep you turning pages and the writing is fantastically done. The character development is really well done and as you read the books there is not the option of just hating or loving a character, as you accompany the development of these characters, even when they go down a wrong path you can't hate them, you know them too well and are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. One thing I love about her books is that everything is not just black and white, there are many other shades of colour, so much to explore and enjoy.

I wanted to like this set but my brain refused. I read the first four chapters, one chapter in the middle, and the last two chapters of the first two books. I skipped around because I found myself uninterested but wanted to see how it ended. I will most likely not read anything by any of these authors because I find the writing style to be juvenile in nature. This is the main reason it could not hold my interest.

I loved each and every one of these books, and thought them all well chosen for this set. I reviewed each book under its own title in more detail. I would love to read more from these authors, and have already purchased a few of their books to continue the series started here. This boxed set is definitely a steal, and well worth the time and money.

Pornography

when I started reading this boxed set I thought I would be reading for a while after three chapters my stomach and head could not handle the disgust I felt. I also will not be going to any traveling carnival soon. not for the young or young at heart. this does not deserve even a quarter star. the only way it gets one you must rate one star to submit a post

This is actually a collection of 6 books and was an enjoyable read but took longer than usual for the reason that it is 6 separate books (short books but books nonetheless). I enjoyed some of them more than others but overall, this is a great collection of authors and stories. Some have more sex than others. I would recommend it.

Interesting!

good stories, but what I found fascinating was the twist on the faire tales so well known. Want to know what I'm talking about? Well, you have to read the stories yourself.

I remember reading this book as part of a set I believe.

I did like this and I did go on to read other books in this series because of it and other books associated with it.

A couple of clunky stories but the rest were good and one or two were awesome and worth buying this collection just for them.
