About the author
Cate Tiernan

New Orleans is one of the most interesting American cities, and it has an incredibly rich and exotic culture that had a profound influence on me. Kids in other cities have lemonade stands; we sold voodoo gris-gris and made wax dolls in the likenesses of our enemies. It's a very beautiful city, and the constant heat and humidity make gardens grow out of control. There's an air of lassitude there, a general acceptance of eccentic or flamboyant behavior--the heat simply makes people do crazy things.
I went to school in New York, and after school went back to New Orleans. Then I went back to New York (Manhattan) and got a job in publishing and started writing. My first book, a young, middle-grade chapter book, was published in 1990.
Living in Manhattan was incredible, even though I didn't have a lot of money. There was so much to do and see, and so many interesting people to watch. There was a lot of frenetic energy there, and sometimes that felt very wearing and hard to live with. After eight years I was ready for a change, and my husband and I moved back to New Orleans. (Are you seeing a pattern here?)
(While I was in NY, I helped edit "The Secret Circle" by L.J. Smith. I thought it was great.)
We stayed in New Orleans five years. By the time we had two small children we knew we had to find someplace safer to live. I was glad my children were born in New Orleans--I had been born there, and my father had, and his father had, and his father had and so on. There was something about the connection of generations of blood coming from one place that I found very primal and important.
Now I live in a cohousing community in Durham, NC. This is the most suburban place I've ever lived, and it's very different from living right in the middle of a city. For one thing, there aren't enough coffee shops. However, it's incredibly safe, and the community is very important to me. There are a lot of strong women here, and I find them inspiring.
Am I a witch? Well, no. Even Wicca is too organized a religion for me. I'm much more idiosyncratic and just need to do my own thing, which is kind of new-agey and pantheistic. It's not that I don't work or play well with others, but I need to decide for myself when I do a certain thing, and how I do it. However, I can really relate to Wicca, and I so appreciate its woman-centeredness and its essentially female identity. I love those aspects, among others.
I have several favorite writers. Barbara Hambly has been the biggest influence on how I describe magic. She's an incredibly imaginative and empathetic writer with a gift for creating a rich, sensual world. I love Barbara Pym, an English writer whose books came out mostly in the fifties. She was a master at describing the thousand tiny moments that make up a woman's day; how the seemingly small and inconsequential thing can suddenly take on a huge emotional importance. I greatly admire P.D. James. She's one of the very few writers who makes me actually look up words in the dictionary. She has a beautiful, precise, educated command of the language that leaves me in awe. I love Philip Larkin's poetry. I read a lot of nonfiction and also have some favorite romance writers. Before anyone groans, let me say that these women write really well about women trying to achieve emotional fulfillment, and that's kind of what we're all doing, right? I also just like reading about sex. Anyway, Jennifer Crusie, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and early Linda Howard are my faves.
And then of course there's my dark side, but more on that later.

‘Weirdest thing. Some guy named The Master transferred millions into my account.’ I looked up. 'Wait—is that bad?’ ”

In book 3, Nastasya suddenly decides to gentrify the town of Lower Nowheresville. So, she spends (roughly) 550 pages buying up a bunch of vacant shops, hiring a gaggle of townies to rehab them, and renting them to:

LEAVING (roughly)…
5 pages (at the end) for:
WHICH MADE ME GO….
BECAUSE…
Despite the double dose of (always appreciated) snark, and the ramped up (rather swoony) romance:
“Slowly, deliberately, Reyn put his arm over my shoulders and brushed a quick kiss against my lips. Then he reached behind the car seat and pulled out… a long sword.
From behind the car seat.
I swear to God. An effing sword.
I slammed my palm on the dashboard. ‘Fine, goddamnit! Kill me! I don’t care!’
Reyn looked at me calmly, balancing the flat of the blade on one finger. ‘Before I even get in your pants? I don’t think so.’ ” ~ Reyn & Nastasya
The UNdramatic conclusion to the Immortal Beloved trilogy fell flat, as Tiernan appeared to lose track of her storyline. Perhaps there was a plotting problem. Or, not enough material to sustain three books. Whatever the excuse, this series clearly ran its course after book 2. And when that happens, there's only one thing left to do:

This quote gives me life. And so does Nas Crowe, a sarcastic, depressed, sarcastic, funny, and sarcastic 459 year old immortal and protagonist of this series.
I could gush about how much I love this book forever but all I'll say to you right now is: Go, get the book, sit down, read it.

Edit 04/18/2013: One of the reasons this series is so close to my heart is that me and my best friend shared such love for it and its characters, and it even brought us closer together in a way. She passed away this February, and even though it was one of the most painful experiences I'd ever had to go through, I still found myself smiling and even laughing when I took a whole day to skim through the entire series.
I think another reason why I love Nastasya so much is because she reminds me so much of my best friend, sass and sarcasm and all. And reading this series again, even if it was just a skim-through, really made me feel like I was hanging out with my best friend again, and I pretended that she was right there beside me reading with me, even though we've never physically met in real life before because I met her online. It may sound cheesy, but I felt her there with me.
This was just a random ramble of how truly amazing I think this series is, and I really don't understand why it's not as hyped as it deserves to be. One of the very few series' that I'm truly, emotionally invested on, and it's close to my heart for many reasons. My best friend being the main one, cause like I said, it brought us even more closer together.
And for that, I thank you, Cate Tiernan.

So that's it then. This series is over. No more Nasty. No more Reyn. No more River's Edge, West Lowing, Massachusetts.

No but seriously, this series was just... Argh, it was such an amazing ride. I had to get this book as fast as possible when it came out because I just couldn't wait to return to River's Edge and to all those characters that I absolutely adore.
In this final installment, things are going pretty well for Nastasya, until River's brothers start visiting River's Edge, claiming that Nasty is a danger to everyone and wanting her to leave. They say this because strange dark things have been happening, and the brothers think that Nasty is a spy and has something to do with all of it. Immortals are being killed around the world, and the immortals at River's Edge might be facing a war soon.
Nasty. Holy shit, you guys, this bitch... Ugh, I cannot even. I LOVE HER SO MUCH. SO GODDAMN MUCH. My god, she is literally my most favorite YA heroine of all time. Of ALL. FREAKING. TIME. In this book we get to see more vulnerability from her as she starts a project on making the little town of West Lowing a better place, and she feels a little overwhelmed with the gratitude she receives from the residents from doing this good deed. She also has some commitment issues with Reyn, but we'll get to that later.
I could go on and on gushing about this flawless bitch, but I'm not going to. But I will say without a doubt she is the best YA heroine of all time in my book.
Reyn is probably the most complex hero I've ever read about. He's just extremely hard to read. But I will say that I was surprised at how open he was in this book in sharing more of his past with Nastasya. We're even treated to an almost-sex scene with the two. Almost because Nasty was thrown off guard by Reyn's confession, which I was surprised cause I thought Nasty felt the same way.
I mentioned the whole Amy and Reyn thing in my review of the second book, and how it was never resolved, and I got the idea that in this book it just became nonexistent. And you know what surprised me also? That Amy turned out to be really awesome. I enjoyed parts where she completely told Ottavio—River's older brother—off, since he spends pretty much the whole book being the most pompous douchecanoe on the face of the planet.
I've said it before that I think this series is more character-based and toned down on the action, sort of, but we're treated to a pretty epic final battle scene nearing the end. The final chapter had me grinning from ear to ear and almost tearing up. I'm so sad that this awesome series is over, but I thought it ended perfectly.
If there's any one of you that's still skeptical about reading this series? ... Girl, bye.

This was a bittersweet ending for me because Immortal Beloved is one of my favorite all-time books, but I absolutely loathed Darkness Falls. This book fell somewhere in between, not nearly as good as the first installment, but way better than the second. I'm glad to finally get some closure, but at the same time, the build-up between Nastasya and Reyn (that's been brewing since book 1) became almost pointless when Tiernan decided to I was not happy about that at all. I wanted some revelations, some declarations, not the lazy cop-out that every hack romance writer uses when they're feeling lazy.
A lot of it was predictable, as well. The big bad revealed at the end isn't much of a surprising twist since the reader is tipped off to it pretty glaringly about halfway through the book. Nothing shocked, nothing really excited, and there was more whining from Nastasya about how she's "inherently dark" and is going to ruin everyone and everything around her. Cate Tiernan also tried my patience with the close calls between Nas and Reyn, and the constant bickering and walking away. I hate that in characters, especially when it's used only as a means of prolonging the story. To me, it shows a glaring disrespect for your readers when you force them to witness one stupid misunderstanding after another simply because you can't be bothered to think of a different way to make your story last.
The best thing about this book is Reyn, and even though he's in this one more than he was in the first two, it still wasn't enough. Joshua is also an interesting new character....come to think of it, this book would have been a lot better had it just focused on the frenemy/bromance thing between Reyn and Joshua...

I can't believe this trilogy ended almost 3 years ago. It seems like just yesterday I was reading the blurb for the first book.
I missed these 'old-fashioned' paranormal romances so I decided to read

I forgot how endearing Nastasya was even though she was lazy and a brat but that's the part of her charm. I was kind of disappointed with the final battle. It sort of ended abruptly. I had to re-read the page because I thought I missed something important. I expected so much more from Cate Tiernan.

Rating: 4.5 Stars
I've found it increasingly difficult to be satisfied with conclusions this year, but thankfully, Eternally Yours lived up to all my expectations - and then some. Nasty continues to shine, both as a character attempting to attain more from her immortal existence and as a narrator who never fails to make me laugh. After the events of Darkness Falls, Nasty is a changed immortal and Eternally Yours captures her mindset perfectly. Now, finally settled into River's and with close friends - not to mention a budding romance with immortal hunk, Reyn - Nasty finally feels at home. Yet, dark forces are still at work, slowly trying to bring down the power of the eight immortal houses and the battle is no longer about Nasty - it's about all the immortals.
What I love about Eternally Yours is that Nasty is still as insecure and afraid as she was in the beginning of Immortal Beloved, but at the same time, she isn't. It isn't easy to face up to your past, embrace magic you formerly saw as dark, or break centuries of evil family tradition to become a good person. And Tiernan, keeping up with Nasty's persona, doesn't make this change easy on her. Nasty has become so much more than her past and she truly comes into her true, flawed self in this book in a way she never has before. And I love that.
Moreover, her relationship with Reyn finally sails. I was disappointed by their minimal interactions in Darkness Falls, but this installment finally makes us see that their chemistry is more than just physical. Reyn and Nasty have an unlikely relationship, but one that is even stronger for their past and together, they truly understand one another. Nevertheless, their relationship struggles through its ups-and-downs, blundering along and never wholly certain of any outcome. Yet, though their path was littered with strife, it was an utterly satisfying read. Eternally Yours is the perfect conclusion to this series, neatly wrapping up all loose ends and leaving us confident and sure of Nasty's future. We've seen her through her worst and though we know she'll undoubtedly face her rough patches, her growth has been so phenomenal and carefully crafted that we have hope and trust that she'll find a way to keep leaving. (Not like she has much of a choice...) Truly, I cannot recommend this series enough. Stunning from start to finish, the Immortal Beloved Trilogy is simply not to be missed. Not at all.
I've found it increasingly difficult to be satisfied with conclusions this year, but thankfully, Eternally Yours lived up to all my expectations - and then some. Nasty continues to shine, both as a character attempting to attain more from her immortal existence and as a narrator who never fails to make me laugh. After the events of Darkness Falls, Nasty is a changed immortal and Eternally Yours captures her mindset perfectly. Now, finally settled into River's and with close friends - not to mention a budding romance with immortal hunk, Reyn - Nasty finally feels at home. Yet, dark forces are still at work, slowly trying to bring down the power of the eight immortal houses and the battle is no longer about Nasty - it's about all the immortals.
What I love about Eternally Yours is that Nasty is still as insecure and afraid as she was in the beginning of Immortal Beloved, but at the same time, she isn't. It isn't easy to face up to your past, embrace magic you formerly saw as dark, or break centuries of evil family tradition to become a good person. And Tiernan, keeping up with Nasty's persona, doesn't make this change easy on her. I had been looking forward to Eternally Yours ever since devouring the first two books in the trilogy earlier this year. I am happy to say that it did not disappoint! Nastasya (our 459 year old immortal) is back and she is just as snarky and sarcastic as ever. We catch up with her and the residents of River's Edge about a month following her gallivants to Boston and the tragedy with Incy. I was happy to get to see Nas back with River and relieved to see how much growing she did in this novel.
At times I do find some of the things that Nas says to be quite childish for someone with her number of years but through the intense flashbacks throughout the story we can clearly see that she didn't do much maturing as time went on. That's one of my favourite parts of this series (which is weird because I despise historical fiction.) We get to go back in time and experience not only Nas's history but also we get glimpses into the past lives of all of the residents of River's Edge and see that no one is perfect. Everyone has a darkness to their past; from being a Viking who would wipe out entire towns to a devious sibling who planned to wipe out her entire family to gain all the power she could. There are so many different tales weaved together in this series and I loved learning about each person.
My favourite person in the story is, of course, our handsome badass Reyn. Watching his and Nas's relationship grow in this edition of the series was something that I had been longing for. They have so much negative history between them and I understood Nas's motivations for taking everything so slow but I just wanted her to pounce him and get it over with! But as their relationship bloomed we also had someone working dark magic and a mystery to solve. I felt that this one was more slow moving than the others, but appreciated the fact that it focused more so on the characters and their growth. To be honest, I didn't really care who was wreaking havoc on their little settlement and I relished in the day to day mundane happenings instead. I care about these characters and their interactions and the witty writing has you feel as if you are in on conversations amongst friends.
I am sad to see that the series is over but I am happy with the way that it ended. I have been talking lately about how I don't re-read books but upon finishing this series I can totally see myself re-reading it one day to relive everyone's story and absorb it all again. Tiernan has created wonderful characters with dark histories that makes you fall in love with each and every one of them. This was a fantastic series and I honestly with there was more to come!

This was such awesome conclusion <3. I officially love all three books. The story proved to be great, but it just felt rushed toward the end. I guess few more chapters wouldn't hurt but oh well. I was surprised about few things and i pity Egthor, poor guy had it rough. There were some times where i was pissed off and practically yelled at screen because of Nasty because of her dilemma's of love. But i loved this book even more than the previous two.

I was surprised with the casualties they had, and i was sad :( I am also going to miss reading about River and Asher, and everyone else from River's Edge. Also Dray and Meriwether. It took me ages to finish this.
During the first third of the book, I was underwhelmed by all the "Previously in the Immortal Beloved Series..." info dump and the characters talking and behaving with the same obnoxiousness or downright stupidity than before.
And then boredom set in. Nothing seemed to happen until the end of the book when everything went very fast and we got served with a ridiculous sort of epilogue before we even recovered from the whiplash.
The only thing that even remotely interested me was the little tidbits we got about Reyn and that we should have gotten in the second book to make us care more about him as a character instead of having him just stand there for the hotness factor. That was too little too late.

Wow, an emotional roller coaster. A very insightful look into the psychology of life. You past, present and everything in between. I loved this story and Reyn's and Nastya's journeys.

Man, I had an awesome time reading the 'Immortal Beloved' series. These books can be quite big, but I always read them in one day or two - they are super entertaining and even though not a lot happens, I never felt bored.
Nasty, the main character, is super funny and relatable - even though she is almost 500 years old LOL - but seriously, what I like the most about Nasty is that the author didn't try to make her super brave, or super porwerful or a super badass fighter. She didn't know how to fight, she was still learning how to do magic even in this last book, she was insecure and kept thinking about running away every time something bad happened. But she didn't, and that's what I liked. It was different than other YA protagonists, and it made me root for her even more - I admit that her snarky comments helped too. :)
I wish this series had more romance though - it's there but it's just a few scenes and not much happens really. This will probably not bother most people, but I was hoping for some more cute scenes with Reyn.
Even so, this was another great book and an awesome conclusion to this series. Highly recommended if you want something funny and entertaining to read.

What an amazing end to a new favourite series of mine. Tiernan has done it again I adored her Wicca/sweep series back when I was 14 ! I know a long time ago got me into reading. I would sneak to my local library straight after school to see if they had the next book in the series read it all within two weeks. I loved it so much I have read that series at least four times over. So I was so excited to see she had wrote more books I know I'm a bit late.
Jeez these were good books though people who have never read her books will probs be like its too slow or nothing happens. That's the point tiernan is a very slow writer she makes you care for every single character. These are very wierd books because it is mostly flashbacks a bit of action magick and a lot of character development. But that's what I loved that we got so much backstory on each of these characters and the magick was done so well yet again. I ended up speeding through these books one after another I just couldn't put them down.
So if you have never read anything by cate tiernan you need to she's a very underrated author. Loved this series up there with the sweep/Wicca series.

Very satisfying conclusion to the series. I suppose some might call it too neat, but I loved it. This was a wonderful, frothy tragicomedy, the strength of which was in the language, not the plot. Which is not to say that the plot wasn't clever in this last volume. I couldn't guess the bad guy for the life of me! Also, it was well paced and the alternating past-present scenes worked well in creating a cohesive whole. And I'm a sucker for happy endings, so this really hit the spot for me. Highly recommended.

A wonderful ending to the series! I absolutely love Nasty, and have been in love with her, and Reyn, and River, and just about every other character since the first page of IMMORTAL BELOVED. It was so good to find out how they're doing and what they're doing and what they're going to do next. Tiernan really explores the nature of evil, and how everyone can change, and has worth, making the book poignant and hilarious by turns.

This was (far and away) the best of the trilogy! I really, really liked this book! Nastasya has grown so much, but she is essentially the same sarcastic (459 year old) teenager, and I love that about her!! I didn't feel like we got enough about the other immortals at River's Edge in this book...there were so many great characters (with really long histories to explore), and we just barely scratched the surface with most of them. But Nasty's "project" was a great way to both show her growth, and expose her weaknesses - and who would have thought it would be so satisfying to watch her squirm uncomfortably while people think and say good things about her?? Brilliant! Her sword training with Reyn was pitch perfect (he is so pissed at her for not being able to protect herself - he unwittingly exposes just how much he cares whether or not she gets hurt), and their interactions are much more plentiful, and make so much more sense, in this book than the first two. Their struggle to understand their connection, and get past their horrific shared past is absolutely gripping!
Which brings me to the question - if you loved it so much why not a 10?? Well, as much MORE Reyn as there was than in the first two books, it still just wasn't enough! I wanted so much more of what makes him tick, what he is thinking and feeling, and especially more of the ending. It was too rushed at the end, considering how achingly long it took to get there! You have to really bring the romance to get a 10 from me! :-)

Nastasya is back at the farm, the reform 'school' for immortals. She's been working to learn about her magic, to stay on course. Suddenly, the place and people she's come to love are under attack by dark, unknown forces, and she's unsure of her role in it all.
Really, really fulfilling conclusion to the trilogy. Solid writing, good pacing, and much appreciated humor (!). Plenty of action, exploration of what it means to be 'good', character growth & history (presented in an interesting way), depth, kisses, love.
Also? I'm willing to read about bloody moments and experience emotional roller coasters in series. However, I R.E.A.L.L.Y. love a happy ending.

No es un libro de acción, es más bien lento, la historia avanza poco y la trama tampoco tiene nada que destaque especialmente. Pero la protagonista supone un soplo de aire fresco, una luz y una razón para que la saga Amor inmortal valga la pena.

Die Schreibweise ist wieder sehr einfach zu lesen, rund gehalten und sorgt dafür, dass einem sowohl die Charaktere als auch die Umgebung näher gebracht werden.
Erzählt wird das ganze wieder aus der Sichtweise von Nastasja, welche wir in den letzten Bänden ja schon sehr gut wahrnehmen konnten. Wir merken in diesem Band, dass es ihr immer noch schwer fällt sich zu akzeptieren und vor allem positive Rückmeldung von anderen zu erhalten. Sie wächst an sich, allerdings nur sehr langsam was es ihr gerade in Punkto Beziehung unglaublich Schwierigkeiten bereitet.
Die Umsetzung dieses dritten und finalen Bandes fand ich auf der einen Seite sehr passend bezogen auf die vorherigen, aber gleichzeitig auch etwas langgezogen und ruhig. Hier hätte ich mir tatsächlich ein paar mehr spannendere und vor allem actionreichere Szenen vorgestellt. Wir fangen über das komplette Buch erstmal mit den psychischen Gefahren an welche nach und nach angetrieben werden. Die Bewohner von River's Edge und im besonderen Nas erhalten einige Schwierigkeiten, die Angst verbreiten und Unruhe stiften.
Die Spannungskurve lag für meine Verhältnisse sehr weit unten und auch so ist nicht allzu viel neues passiert. Nas hat sich weiterentwickelt, allerdings auch weiterhin nur in einem sehr zurückhaltenden Tempo was ich etwas schade fand.
Die eingebaute Liebesgeschichte zwischen Nas und Reyn hat mir insgesamt wirklich gut gefallen, allerdings gehen wir in diesem Band wieder einen Schritt zurück. Wir sind wieder am Punkt angekommen, dass es falsch und nicht akzeptabel ist. Mir hätte es hier besser gefallen, wenn Nas früher ihre Einsicht bekommen hätte. Die Entwicklung nach dem großen Kampf und dem nachfolgenden Epilog empfand ich etwas sprunghaft, hier hätte mir eine lebhafte und gefühlvolle Aussprache mal ganz gut gefallen.
Das letztendliche Ende und der finale Kampf waren insgesamt gut umgesetzt, wobei ich hier tatsächlich noch ein bisschen mehr erwartet habe. Bei der aufgebauten Spannung, hätte ich eine gewaltige und pulsierende Entladung erwartet. Was nicht heißen will, dass der Kampf nicht gut war nur hätte ich mir etwas mehr davon erwartet.
Rundum bin ich aber trotz allem mit dem Buch und seiner Verlauf zufrieden gewesen. Ich konnte mich wieder in die Geschichte fallen lassen, hatte Spaß dabei Nas und ihre Freunde wiederzutreffen und mit ihnen gemeinsam das alles durchzustehen.

Mit "Immortal Beloved – Entfesselt“ hat Cate Tiernan insgesamt einen schönen Abschluss ihrer Reihe geschaffen. Wenn ich diesen dritten Teil auch nicht mehr so stark empfand wie die vorherigen, hat die Autorin ein gutes und sich aufklärendes Ende gewählt. Ich hatte wieder eine schöne Zeit mit diesen wundervollen Charakteren und der interessanten Grundidee.
Erzählt wird das ganze wieder aus der Sichtweise von Nastasja, welche wir in den letzten Bänden ja schon sehr gut wahrnehmen konnten. Wir merken in diesem Band, dass es ihr immer noch schwer fällt sich zu akzeptieren und vor allem positive Rückmeldung von anderen zu erhalten. Sie wächst an sich, allerdings nur sehr langsam was es ihr gerade in Punkto Beziehung unglaublich Schwierigkeiten bereitet.
Die Umsetzung dieses dritten und finalen Bandes fand ich auf der einen Seite sehr passend bezogen auf die vorherigen, aber gleichzeitig auch etwas langgezogen und ruhig. Hier hätte ich mir tatsächlich ein paar mehr spannendere und vor allem actionreichere Szenen vorgestellt. Wir fangen über das komplette Buch erstmal mit den psychischen Gefahren an welche nach und nach angetrieben werden. Die Bewohner von River's Edge und im besonderen Nas erhalten einige Schwierigkeiten, die Angst verbreiten und Unruhe stiften.
Die Spannungskurve lag für meine Verhältnisse sehr weit unten und auch so ist nicht allzu viel neues passiert. Nas hat sich weiterentwickelt, allerdings auch weiterhin nur in einem sehr zurückhaltenden Tempo was ich etwas schade fand.
Die eingebaute Liebesgeschichte zwischen Nas und Reyn hat mir insgesamt wirklich gut gefallen, allerdings gehen wir in diesem Band wieder einen Schritt zurück. Wir sind wieder am Punkt angekommen, dass es falsch und nicht akzeptabel ist. Mir hätte es hier besser gefallen, wenn Nas früher ihre Einsicht bekommen hätte. Die Entwicklung nach dem großen Kampf und dem nachfolgenden Epilog empfand ich etwas sprunghaft, hier hätte mir eine lebhafte und gefühlvolle Aussprache mal ganz gut gefallen.
Das letztendliche Ende und der finale Kampf waren insgesamt gut umgesetzt, wobei ich hier tatsächlich noch ein bisschen mehr erwartet habe. Bei der aufgebauten Spannung, hätte ich eine gewaltige und pulsierende Entladung erwartet. Was nicht heißen will, dass der Kampf nicht gut war nur hätte ich mir etwas mehr davon erwartet.

הספר האחרון בסדרה מקבל ממני 3.5 כוכבים.
זו בהחלט היתה סדרה כיפית לקריאה והספר הזה היה פחות ״קודר״ מקודמו וכמובן שגם הגיע לסיום המצופה. לפחות בערך (כבר אתייחס לכך).
חבורת האימורטלס שמכונסת בביתה של ריבר מבינה שמשהו קורה - יותר מדי דברים משתבשים, דברים רעים קורים לא רק להם, אלא גם לאימורטלס אחרים ברחבי העולם ובהדרגה מתגלה שמדובר במשהו גדול יותר.
מי עומד מאחורי ההתרחשויות? במי הוא/היא/הם מנסה לפגוע ובעיקר למה? מי חשוד? האם זה קשור לנסטסיה ואם כן, אז איך?
וכאן אני רוצה להתייחס לסוף הספר - היה פה בילט אפ של שלושה ספרים ולאור המידע שמתגלה בספר השלישי, ציפיתי למשהו הרבה יותר גרנדיוזי ממה שמתגלה בסוף.
וואלה, חייבת לומר שזה לא היה כזה מעניין… אם יש תעלומה, אז העלילה איכשהו צריכה לתמוך בה, לתת רמזים מקדמים, לעורר חשדות וכו׳ וכאן ה״פתרון״ נראה לי די תלוש ובטח לא כזה שנתפר היטב. היינו צריכים איזו דמות להאשים? סבבה, אז יש כזאת. האם זה ״סגר את הפינה״? בעיניי פחות. ציפיתי ליותר - גם מבחינת מה זה ״הדבר הגדול״ הזה (לא היה שום דבר ״גדול״), גם המניעים (לא הבנתי מה היה המניע) וגם מבחינת הקשר לכל השאר - ששוב, לא היה קיים כל כך.
ועכשיו לגיבורים - נסטסיה ממשיכה ללמוד ולהתפתח, אבל לא מוותרת על הביקורת העצמית הנוקבת שמאפיינת אותה (קצת מעייף, גם אם לגיטימי), אבל היא בהחלט משתפרת והשינוי שהיא עוברת מורגש.
הרומן בינה לבין ריין הופך להיות משהו מוצהר ומדובר, אך עדיין מלא במהמורות ובאופן כללי, מצאתי שהרומן בסדרה הזאת משאיר טעם של החמצה. למה אני מתכוונת? ובכן, בספר הראשון, כשלא היה הרבה ממנו, אמרתי - סבבה, זה סלואו ברן ואני אוהבת. בספר השני אמרתי, טוב, היה קצת יותר משניהם וזה בסדר. לא מספיק בעיניי, אבל בטח בספר השלישי ייחרכו הסדינים ויהיה מעניין. אלא שלא.
כן, הרומן כאמור גלוי ומוצהר, אבל מעבר לתיאורים של משיכה מטורפת ובלתי מוסברת, לא ממש הבנתי מה מחבר אותם. אם היה לזה הסבר מעולם הפנטזיה, כמו נניח, mates, אז סבבה - הם נועדו זה לזו ולא יכולים לחיות האחד בלי השני. אבל לא. אין שום דבר מיוחד. הם סתם מתאהבים, (למרות העבר הקשה שלהם!) וסתם נמשכים בטירוף. ומצד שני, עם על המשיכה, הם לא עושים כלום חוץ מלהתנשק!!! קצת מוזר. מה גם, שבלי להכיר יותר מדי, בשלב מסוים ריין מצהיר על אהבתו ולא מוכן לקבל מנסטסיה שום דבר חוץ מ״כל החבילה״, מה שהרגיש לי קצת טוטאלי מדי יחסית לכמות האינטראקציות ביניהם ולעובדה שהוא אמור להיות קצת יותר אמפתי למצבה הרגשי ולספקות שיש לה לגבי יחסים מחייבים, אחרי כל מה ששניהם עברו.
אחר כך, יש רמזים על ילדים עתידיים, אבל מי שמתחתן בסוף הספר זה לא הגיבורים - אז בשביל מה זה היה טוב? במה זה תרם לעלילה?
שוב, אני חוששת שבשורה התחתונה, נשארתי עם תחושה של קצוות פרומים, כשהמימוש של על הבילט אפ היה צולע למדי ויכול ואף צריך היה להיות הרבה יותר מורכב ומעניין מכל מיני בחינות.
אז למה אני עדיין חושבת שזה היה ספר טוב? כי נהניתי ממנו וגם אם הוא לא היה מספיק מהודק לטעמי, הוא עדיין סיפק את הסחורה.
