On the planet, Hathor, a powerful group called the Guardians serves as the security force for Novacorp, the corporation that runs Hathor with its ruthless monopoly. Nadira, as one of the most powerful Guardians, is expected to use her intuition and telekinetic powers to keep the capital city safe from thieves and intruders.

Jonathan Keel, son of a mine CEO on the nearby planet, Astarte, is wealthy, privileged and used to getting what he wants. When his father goes missing after a robbery and explosion at the mine, he defies the authorities and heads to Hathor to search for him and for the robbers.

Security is on high alert and Nadira is charged with protecting Jon. She rescues him from an vicious attack and discovers that the Guardians have another agenda that has nothing to do with solving the crime.

Jonathan finds evidence of his father's possible involvement, while his attraction to Nadira forces her to confront all she has known about being a Guardian, especially the rule to put duty before her personal feelings.

Struggling with their growing desires, and chased by company security, Jon and Nadira flee the city. But solving the crime leads them to endure betrayals from the people closest to them, as secrets are revealed that not only link their pasts but also threaten to destroy Jon's family and separate him from Nadira forever.

Hathor legacy is a book that is set in the distant future where people inhabit other planets besides Earth. There were seven original families that came from all over Earth to colonize these new planets. The original descendants from the seven original families have special abilities that allows them to be more in touch with their inner selves. (That's not really not the phrase I'm looking for, but for a lack of better description right now, that's what I'll go with.) The people who have these powers can either read minds or people's body energy. Those who have the highest aptitude are made into Guardians . They are like the "not so secret" special military forces. They keep the peace and enforce law on one of those planets.
Okay, so now that we have the backdrop we are getting into the meat of the story. On one of the auxiliary planets there was a major theft in one of the mining areas and the overseer goes missing. His son, Jonathan wants to try to find him, so he goes to the place his father was rumored to have gone which is the original planet that was colonized and where the Guardians reside. Jonathan arrives on the planet basically as a fugitive since he used his father's ID because he wasn't supposed to leave his home planet. He gets paired up with a Guardian named Nadira because of his status as a fugitive basically and now someone wants to try to eliminate him.
Nadira, is a no nonsense woman who doesn't have time for games. I liked her. She said exactly what was on her mind and when she spoke, she expected people to obey. She was hesitant to touch others because if they had strong emotions it would effect her and her ability to dispense justice. The stronger the other people's emotions, the more she had to train herself to block it out.
Barriers and Jonathan's relationship and attraction seemed kind of forced. I mean Jonathan seemed as if he were in his late teens instead of his early 30's, while Nadira could have been in her mid 30's to late 40's with the interactions she had with Jonathan and others. I don't think that Nadira would have gone for someone like Jonathan because she was too serious and he was too immature. I just don't know, but something in Nadira's and Jonathan's chemistry didn't balance . The story and the itself was solid, but the romantic undertone just didn't click for me.

I give this story a 3 for the story itself, but the romantic links between the characters needs to be amplified in the next book.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

The hardest reviews for me to write are the ones where I don't have a strong opinion one way or another for the book. I didn't love this book but I didn't hate it either. The story left me feeling, well, nothing. I didn't particularly connect with the characters and suffered mild annoyance because the story felt incomplete. The dialogue felt stilted and I had more questions than answers for what happened and why. I could chalk that up to this being a novella length story at only 182 pages, but I have read novellas and even short stories that left me feeling like I experienced a complete story. Sorry, but this just didn't do it for me.

This book has a romance in it. But the best thing, there is a great deal of story here. This story is not only romance - girl and boy meet, girl and boy find way to hearts, girl and boy go to bed. There is a who story that Nadira and Jonathan work their way through and in doing so the romance blossoms. There is a steamy scene but not as many scenes as I had thought I'd get. Which is right in line for me.

****FULL REVIEW****

Nadira is roused from her sleep, early, by Brant her Guardian Sentry Leader. There is news of an explosion and theft at a mine on a planet three days travel away. Serving as a Guardian for NovaCorp due to her powerful ability to read thoughts and emotions, Nadira is to be aware the thieves might come to Hathor, and she's to stop them. When Jonathan and his partner arrive at Hathor, Nadira is set to track him, expecting to find his partner and learn what happened at the mine.

Jonathan hears the news of the mines explosion and been robbery. He's worried about his father, CEO of the mining company, who is said to have headed to Hathor the morning the mines fell, yet no one's heard from him or can find him. Jonathan hears a hint on the thieves from a patron of his bar. He'll find his father, and hopefully the thieves too. Jonathan decides to help a friend escape threats from the thieves and look for his father at Hathor. Denying his mothers request to no go, due to him being in danger, he does take her request to tell no one that his mother is from Hathor.

Kristin has quickly become one of my favorite voices in audio books. I love the way she sounds as she's acting the parts and talking to me with such emotion. I feel she's taken on the part of the characters full tilt and draws me into the world the characters live in and the actions happening. She does different voice tones and persona's in the voice for the characters which makes it easy to get a personal feel for the characters and who's who while listening.

Nadira is the strong one here. The story feels as a flip of roles, in sorts. Nadira is the one on the hunt for the bad guys and protecting. Jonathan is kind of a pretty face. lol. I like this flip. Jonathan starts to fall into the dangerous field of the innocent person caught in the middle of the events happening around him. Jonathan does come to prove himself to be more than a pretty boy. I've come to enjoy reading/hearing Jonathan in the story. He grows greatly.

Jonathan is a sleek popular young man among the patrons of his club, and woman. Jonathan thinks he's quite the ladies man. Nadira is caught off guard, for some reason she's not sure of, with Jonathan at first meeting. She does find him physically attracting, even if she doesn't want to admit it. And Jonathan, who does admit it, finds Nadira attractive as well. It seems Nadira is the tough nut to crack in this couple.

Nadira seems to have a secret connection with another Guardian, and her mentor Zena. There is a whole world, or worlds, created here. Mostly we learn of Hathor as that's where the story takes place. Hathor has it's own rules to follow and the Guardians to protect. Stealing is one thing they are extremely strict on here. The mining world and businesses are seen as well. And NovaCorp is the top of the control chain.

There are a few moments in the story that I expected the characters to lie or decline in telling of information. But they don't! I loved that the characters realized they are to trust each other and do. This grows their relationship and shows they are smart in who to trust. You have to trust someone, so pick who's been trying to help you over all.

This is a quick story. But in being so, there is lots of pertinent information given. Each word is important here and has a meaning. What starts as a simple job order becomes so much more for Nadira. The corruption goes deeper than Nadira ever thought.

I got a kick out of the first awkward close attraction moment. lol. Jonathan flirts with her something fierce, making innuendos that she understands but resists. Yet she is attracted to him, underneath and not wanting to admit it.

I found I fell for Jonathan and Nadira, their relationship and the search they are on and running to protect Jonathan. Along with the world they are in.

Secrets and Lies
I picked up the ARC on StoryOrigin was not sure about it but I am so glad I picked it up. It is so good!! Nadira was taken from her mother at an early age and trained to be a Guardian. There is an explosion and a missing person and her assignment is to watch Jonathan. Now that does not go as expected but it leads to some very interesting facts to come out. Lies, danger, and an ending that make you look forward to the next book. If you like fantasy/paranormal run do not walk and pick this one up. The eBook or audio is great Ms. Bailey has written an awesome piece and Kristin James was an excellent narrator!! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This just didn't flow well to me, the story seemed to be all over the place. I finished reading it but I think the plot needed more focus & depth on the main characters and there were so many supporting characters that their romantic connection fell flat and was lost amongst everything else that was going on. This made the plot hard to follow and although it was adventurous & had lots of action, it wasn't exciting or romantic at all, to me.

I received this Audible book from the author in exchange for a review. This is a Story set on a different Planet where some people have abilities that the corporation can use to their benefit. Story could have move faster, started out good but slowed down and became slower the further you went. I was gifted with the next in the series and will see if it picks up and if it gets better.

“Hathor Legacy: Outcast” by Deborah A. Bailey is a science fiction and paranormal story that features a challenging planet named Hathor that centers around an organization called Novacorp. Society is stratified and divided into those associated with Novacorp, civilians, and the Guardians. Guardians are descendants of the original settlers of the planet and have a range of extraordinary powers but are themselves constrained by a set of strict regulations. Jonathan Keel, son of the CEO of the high-producing mine on a nearby planet, is inexorably drawn into a confusing upheaval that may cause a shake-up amongst some of the largest players on Hathor. His interactions with the Guardian Nadira will cause them both to take a close look at the beliefs they have held for their entire lives and the truths they strive to uncover will change their society forever.

This imaginative story gives a glimpse of a complex and stratified society that involves descendants of humanity who are endowed with extraordinary talents yet must deal with the persistent issues of greed, power struggles and the conflict between following the heart and one’s sense of duty. There are intriguing elements to the society but I found myself still confused about what was actually taking place and why. There are plenty of dangling threads that need to be resolved and quite a few unanswered questions about the motives behind various actions and I had trouble with the way the main characters became so fond of each other. Hopefully, subsequent stories will flesh out some of the issues as this story established an interesting premise that I would be interested in seeing explored more fully.

I found myself interested in the idea of the story and thought I would probably like this book. I was wrong. Between the extremely over the top narration, particularly in the romance scenes-which honestly sounded so breathy as to be sarcastic - like something I would jokingly say to my husband. I will be most likely avoiding the combination of this author and narrator. I'm not sure if it's just a bad combination and I would like both of their works, only separately. I feel like I probably would. This is why the overall rating is only 2 while the performance and story were both rated 3. I will likely be checking out both the author and narrator again- just never together.

2.5 ish

I recieved an audiobook copy and have voluntarily left this review.

I was pretty interested by the premise of this story. I'm not big into sci-fi but it caught my attention. I kinda wish it hadn't. While i didn't like the book, i didn't hate it either, but it's not one of those books that you find are just perfectly set in middle ground.

I found that I wasn't drawn in. It had a plot and the characters weren't bad or anything. I just didn't feel the connection. It was a little... almost indecisive feeling of that makes sense. Certain things went well but then something new was kinda put into the works that didn't quite mesh and the story faltered from there. It's really unfortunate. I was just left with no strong emotions besides a slight disappointment.

I was given a review copy of this book. I liked it. The cover is georgous. The characters were great and they made me want to know more about them. Jonathan seems like the type of man that you want to kiss and punch all at the same time. Personally, I love unresolved sexual tension so I wish they wouldn't have gotten together so quickly. I look forward to the second book.

I purchased this book after hearing about it.. Well written, well plotted etc. I liked the use of suspense, paranormal, and futuristic all in one. It was a tad bit formulaic. I got the feeling that the writer was holding back a bit. Actually, the hero is in many ways more complex than the heroine. Still, I think the writing was good & the writer shows skill and promise.
